• c++ builder TClientWinSocket simbol substitution

  I have the following problem. I have to send a text telegram over tcp/ip to a host device. Telegram should be terminated using 0x1A (CTRL-Z) character. But when I send it, host told me that there is a wrong symbol in the telegram. When I terminate a telegram with 32 (0x20) everything is ok. I look the transfered data using WireShark and I see that when I send 0x1A it is substituted with 0x16, when I send 32 (0x20) as a terminator it is somehow substituted with 0x1A. Can you explain it please. P.S. I am working on windows 7, using c++builder xe2. Thanks, Vladimir

• webkit-transition for "top" and "bottom" properties

  I'd like to make a css animation where a div (centered on a screen using top and bottom properties) expands by setting top and bottom to 20px. Is it possible? When I try to make it happen with: -webkit-transition-property: top, bottom; -webkit-transition-duration: 0.5s; animation is not performed. Am I doing something wrong, or is it not supposed to work with these properties? P.S. I'm doing this for a Titanium desktop application, so only webkit matters...

• Joining remote paths in Java

  I'm using the FTP library provided by Apache (commons-net). I want to check if a file exists on the FTP server so I use the listFiles method of FTPClient: ftpClient.listFiles(remoteFileDir + "\\" + fileName); The current directory is the FTP server root directory. So, the value of remoteFileDir is a path relative to this root directory. My question concerns the merge between the remote directory path and the file name. What is the right way to do it? For a local file, I would do: File file = new File(remoteFileDir,fileName); but here it doesn't work since when I call file.getAbsolutePath(), I get an absolute path for the file in the local current directory which is not what I want. Also, I guess the merging has been done according to my local environment. PS: I looked at How are paths determined on a remote machines? but it doesn't help me. Thanks

• Posting within PHP and receiving only cookie

  Hello I have a question. It might be sound ridiculous, but let me explain what I want to accomplish. Right now I try to embed open source forum to by site and I want to leave forum and my site databases split. When my site users are logging in I want them also automatically be logged in to the forum system. For that I want to login within my PHP code after receiving username and password in post, but I don't know how I can get only cookies in response. I have found out that I can use curl_init(), curl_exec(), curl_close() functionality, but response from curl_exec returns whole response(page content, cookies, headers). Is there a way to receive only cookies? P.S. - If my design is totally wrong please give an advise how I can embed this functionality! I would be very thankful!

  Do you know any book, blog, tutorial which explains in a detailed way the use of some open source projects? Maybe you have written such a tutorial, example of open source libraries, and your final product is great for a beginner to understand it. I'm in the learning stage of OOP and I really need to learn by examples. I'll like to find some text which explains the use of some open source software/libraries and the good practices. Beign honestly I feel scared to use the open source libraries as I wish/think at this moment. I feel like as I still write procedural code and not OOP. Do you know such tutorials, links, blogs, stories, pages? PS: I know C and PHP. I can't say that I know C++ yet, and that's why I need your help.

  Working with .NET framework I have a service with a set of methods that can generates several types of exceptions: MyException2, MyExc1, Exception... To provide proper work for all methods, each of them contains following sections: void Method1(...) { try { ... required functionality } catch(MyException2 exc) { ... process exception of MyException2 type } catch(MyExc1 exc) { ... process exception of MyExc1 type } catch(Exception exc) { ... process exception of Exception type } ... process and return result if necessary } It is very boring to have exactly same stuff in EACH service method with exactly same exceptions processing functionality... Is there any possibility to "group" these catch-sections and use only one line (something similar to C++ macros)? Probably something new in .NET 4.0 is related to this topic? Thanks. P.S. • Differentiate VMware network adapter from physical network adapters

  I have to differentiate between the real addresses and the VM addresses using any Windows API. I'm using Getadaptersaddresses API to populate a list of ipaddresses for the local machine. I need to extract only the "real" addresses apart from the addresses associated with the VMware network adapter and other addresses(auto-configuration and tunnel adapter addresses) I've not been able to find any API or any flag to differentiate this. Is there any way this can be done? PS:The IfType flag in the IP_ADAPTER_ADDRESSES structure returned by Getadaptersaddresses doesn't help me differentiate between VMware addresses and the real addresses

  Hi, In my current project, I have to compare 128bit values (actually md5 hashes) and I thought it would be possible to accelerate the comparison by using SSE instructions. My problem is that I can't manage to find good documentation on SSE instructions; I'm searching for a 128bit integer comparison instruction that let me know if one hash is larger, smaller or equal to another. Does such an instruction exists? PS: The targeted machines are x86_64 servers with SSE2 instructions; I'm also interested in a NEON instruction for the same job.

  I have an account at a server at school, and a home computer that I need to work with sometimes. I have exchanged keys, and now only have one problem. While my school account has a name associated with it, "account_name@school", my home network does not. My plan is to have a script that every hour retrieves my home network's IP address, ssh'es into my school account and updates my ssh config file storing my home network's IP address. How can I retrieve my home computer's IP address from a shell script? P.S. Is this a sensible plan?

  I have been trying to read a file in "cp037" encoding scheme using JAVA. I able to read a file in basic encoding schemes like UTF-8, UTF16 etc...After a bit of research on the internet i came to know that we need charset.jar or international version of JRE be installed to support extended encoding schemes. Can anyone send me a link for international version of JRE6 or JDK6. or is there any better way that i could read a file in cp037 encoding scheme. P.S: cp037 is a character encoding scheme supported by IBM Mainframes. All i need is to display a file in windows, which is being generated on IBM Mainframes machine, using a java program.   Hi, I have been trying to access the pygame website for a few weeks now, and I can't get to it. I doubt it's down, so I have to conclude that it's blocked because I am in China. I have no idea why. Anyways, I want the pygame documentation, but all the download links I fond lead back to pygame.org (which I does not even begin loading, it's such a politically subversive website you know!). Can anyone tell me where I can get documentation and other pygame resources without going through pygame.org? I would really appreciate it, thanks. PS I am on windows XP, if it matters.

  We use the ASP.NET profile subsystem to associate key-value pairs of information with users. I am implementing functionality for the deletion of users. I have been using the ProfileManager.DeleteProfile(string userName) method, but I have noticed that this leaves a row in the aspnet_Users table in the aspnetdb database we use to store the profile information. Clearly, I could manipulate the database directly, but I am reluctant to do so. What is the best way to ensure all information assocaited with a user is deleted from the aspnetdb? PS: there is a tantalising Membership.DeleteUser(string userName, bool deleteEverything) method, but this returns a database connection error. A web.config issue?

  i m trying to make a simple program ( & yes , it is a homework ) that can generate Dates , & like most of normal people : i made my Class attributes private , i tried to send the same type that i m working on to the constructor but the complier have not accept it , i did some research & i found out that in cases like that people generously send a const "type" reference to the constructor witch meant to me that have not understand OOP well so why do we have to send the const " type " reference instead of just the types name to the constructor ? & please give me some links or websites for beginners PS : sorry for my English

• Determining whether a file is a duplicate

  Is there a reliable way to determine whether or not two files are the same? For example, two files with the same size and type may or may not be the same binarilly (yeah, I know it's not really a word). I assume that comparing one or two checksums of the files will help, but I wonder: How reliable are checksums at determining whether two files are different; what are the chances of two different files having the same checksum? Would reliability increase by applying additional checksum comparisons? Which checksum algorithm(s) would be the most efficient and/or reliable? Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts are appreciated! P.S. The code for this is being written in Java running on a nix system, but generic or platform agnostic input is most helpful.

  I've created a custom clipboard because it's not possible to make my whole class map serializable - which is a requirement for the windows clipboard. However, I need to distinguish between users who are using my clipboard through a unique id. Basically, I want to be able identify a person who is sat at one PC with one or more copies of visual studio (or similar) open. How do I do that? ps: This is at design-time. pps: It's not critical that it should work between copies of visual studio. One copy would be fine, or even one design surface.

  I have the following code snippet #ifdef DO_LOG #define log(p) record(p) #else #define log(p) #endif void record(char *data){ ..... ..... } Now if I call log("hello world") in my code and DO_LOG isn't defined, will the line be compiled, in other words will it eat up the memory for the string "hello world"? P.S. There are a lot of record calls in the program and it is memory sensitive, so is there any other way to conditionally compile so that it only depends on the #define DO_LOG? Thanks in advance.

• How to index and search .doc files

  I have an application that needs to have .doc files uploaded to it. These documents should then be index and the whole collection of documents should be searchable. This will run on a Windows Server, without Word installed, using IIS and SqlServer, but I'd rather not be tied to SqlServer's full text indexing. I was thinking of using Lucene.Net for the indexing part and was wondering what the best way to get the text out of the .doc files would be. I could probably extract the text by reading in the whole stream and then using a regEx to pull out any regular characters, but that seems hefty and prone to error. I saw an article on using iFilters that sounds promising, but I thought I'd put this out there since it's not something I'm familiar with. P.S. If it matters, these .doc files will have mail-merge fields in them and there's no other current alternative for the .doc format.

• Wordpress transfer to new ftp. Help, Home link doesn't work?

  Hi I've transfered my wordpress site to a new ftp server, but my home link doesn't work properly. When I click on it, it goes to http://123.456.78.8/mydomain.com and I get a page not found message. I've discovered it needs a / at the end to work. Does anyone know a way to fix this before I put it on my live site? Could it be a database or config file issue? What are the pros and cons of above methods,size is an important criteria as the application needs to be supported on embedded devices as well. P.S: I don't want to use exception handling because of portability issues and associated overheads.

• Help with setting up panels in Java

  I'm new to Java awt, so I am having trouble with setting up panels. I have one giant panel, which needs to hold 3 panels inside (photo is attached at the bottom). One will go on top(1), second one will be in the middle(3), and third goes on the bottom(2). Any remaining space has to be divided equally between (1)/(3) and (3)/(2). Also, the middle panel (3) is a table, so GridLayout has to be used. How can I achieve this? Thanks in advance! P.S. I've tried to draw it in MS Paint (http://i45.tinypic.com/2w523ie.jpg)
