• How to rename everything matching a certain string in a folder

  Hello Everyone I am running Linux and I have some basic console knowledge but my current problem is quite difficult and I dont know how to achieve this. I want/need to rename everything within a folder that matches a given string. By everything I mean folders/files content within a file content in hidden files Basically I want to refactor a Java-project. Sure, I could use Eclipse to handle the replacing, but this leaves out the folders or resources outside of my workspace. I was thinking of a script that could do the job for me but this seems rather tricky. For instance when it comes to folder-/file-rename I want to replace only the part of the name that matches my string, the rest should remain untouched. Maybe someone already has something like this in his/her script-collection :-) Thanks in advance Marc

• Laptop turns off after 20 minutes of use

  My laptop a sony vaio VGN-NW11S http://www.trustedreviews.com/Sony-VAIO-VGN-NW11S-S---15-5in-Laptop_Laptop_review. Everytime i turn it on, in safe mode or not, if i try to open an application i.e. run a process such as google chrome or event viewer, defrag, virus scan, it completely turns off without warning, nor giving a trace of events the next time I switch it on. Apart from that, I had worries it might be my battery or power supply but I dont think it is that, I took the laptop apart cleaning fans etc. and have ordered some cpu paste as I checked to see the condition of the processor. I will post to see if re-applying the paste works. One more thing, when the heavy processes kick in, the fan starts to make a lot of noise, maybe trying to cool down the CPU? Any ideas on what else it could be and what I could do to test what is wrong?

• Cant install windows 7(boot problem)

  First of all, I cant boot my windows 7. I get a black screen with a cursor up in the left corner. So, I tried using windows 7 installation which I've put on my flash drive. To boot from the drive, I've changed the boot order to boot from the drive first. It boots but does not find any HDD to install the windows on(which is pretty logic, I dont boot the HDD soon enough for the installer). but if i put the HDD in front of the flash drive in the boot order, it will just try to load windows 7 and i will get the black screen again. I've tried putting the HDD first and clicking f8 a lot. All I've got is an error. Something about some software change. I dunno. Help me please, cant do anything with my laptop till then.

• SOLR high CPU usage in amazon EC2

  I installed solr-3.6 in my local windows box and it worked fine. I installed solr-4.0 in amazon ec2 linux large instance and the cpu usage shot upto 100%. It maintained at 80-90% average cpu power. I thought it could be because of 4.0, So I installed 3.6 in EC2 again. But again the CPU usage was 80-90% average. With both the versions, solr works in EC2. dont know why CPU usage is so high. i started the solr server using "sudo nohup java -jar start.jar &" In my local box java 1.7 is installed and in EC2 it is 1.6.0_24. I have mapped solr dir to an EBS volume. /dev/mapper/vg1-solr 8361916 1935928 6342128 24% /home/ec2-user/SOLR/solr/example/solr Is there any known issue ?

  I have an automated script that pulls backups from my website to my local computer. Once my server was down, another time i accidentally move my script. How do i make Windows Task Scheduler tell me with the script fails (or doesnt run/not found)? I dont care if a prompt comes up, an email or something that appears on my desktop. I want to be notified if something goes wrong. On my server crontab emails me about errors which is great. I want something like that on my windows 7 local computer.

• Redundant Web Space

  I have following problem. My domain is registred on service "A" My web-space (not a server) is on Godaddy. Once a week is my service unreacheble I am sure that is godaddy problem. My idea is to by some webspace of one different service to make my service redundant. Note: My service is only few html files with javascrit. I dont' need to sync But how to do it? Whre do I have to say "there are two webspaces, if one is not reacheble, so use the other" ? Thanks a lot

• linux kernel option to set sata disk to udma/133 1.5gbps

  hi, i try to speed up boot time of my linux server box which uses removable HDD rack's the current boot time is around 2 min's but if i connect the hdd's directly to the mainboard its about 2 sec's the problem is that ahci's kernel implementation causes a timeout of around 30 seconds for each disk during boot which originates from the hdd-rack after the timeout the kernel prints that the disk is limited with speed to 1.5gbps and udma/133 is used so the question i have is: how can i set this in grub as a boot option so the kernel doesnt have to wait for a timeout and just hardcoded limits the speed of the disks? i read about a few options like pci=nomsi or such, which dont work thats why im asking for limiting precisely the disks during boot thx

  Hii All, I would like to insatll windows 2003 server on my desktop machine which already has Windows XP service Pack 2 installed . I dont want to overwrite XP but i want to have a option to select XP or Windows 2003 server while booting . I am not sure how to go about this , am afraid if i insert Win 2003 cd and start installing directly it may overwrite XP :( . My HD is 350 GB n RAM is 2 GB with 8 partitions . • How realistic/easy is it to host our own web servers?

  It is increasingly looking like we will need to host our own servers, because we need modems physically attached to the server machines. I (think) we will need a T1 line to our office for starters. Dont know what else is involved other than the obvious redundancy and failover requirements. My questions are: Do we really have to do it our selves or can we find a service that allows the modems to be remote as well? If we have to host the servers ourselves, what are the steps (technical and operational) required?

• What happens to a Windows Dynamic Drive

  In my windows (Windows 7) I have two primary logical volumns, One is on a SSD harddrive for my operating system and installed software, and my other is a Dynamic volume for my stored media. (I do alot of work with HD footage) I have all my media on the original DV tapes for backup purposes, just having them all available on my harddrive at all times is a major convience for me, well worth the few hundred dollar investment those 2TB drives were. Anyway, Long story short is my windows install has become problematic and I want to reformat windows. Does this, or will this effect my dynamic drive in any way? I've got almost 3 TB of video on there and i really dont want to re-import all my DV tapes.

• Moving LiveMeeting admin functions to a different window

  I run a user group, and often host LiveMeeting sessions. I use a projector, with a crowd watching. How do I do the admin stuff (respond to Q&A, etc) on one window, and just have the video on the 'extended monitor'? I dont' want the people in the audience to see anything except the video feed, but I want to be able to watch questions come in, etc... Note: I don't have a problem extending the screen across the two monitors - I already have different stuff showing on my screen compared to the projector. I just want a way to put the LM video on Monitor 2 (projector), and the LM controls on Monitor 1.

• Burn more than one ISO to one dvd?

  I just turned 11 CDs with a total of 1gb of stuff into ISOs. Is it possible for me to just burn all the ISO videos into a DVD? Any alternative way for me to do it? Edit: I need to be playable on any DVD player. It's videos for my grandparents. Update: I read that DVD shrink should work (re-authoring software), but I didn't try it because when I imported the VIDEO_TS folders into the software, my video wasn't played widescreen, and I dont' know how to fix it.

• My site not directing links correctly.

  I have a site at http://badassmonkeys.com/ and when i click any of the links it does not direct it to the actual page but still pulls up the link. For some reason it works perfectly on linux cpanel and actually loads the pages, but on windows in apache, or in IIS even with a rewrite mod for it, it just doesnt work. The links dont go correctly. • How to limit access to Exchange 2003 Mobile Activesync server by user?

  So I was asked to set up an Exchange Activesync mobile gateway. That's done. It's a separat eExchange 2003 front-end server configured for SSL, and I've put an off-domain ISA server in front of it. Now I'm being asked to limit which users can connect to it. By default an Exchange front-end server allows any user who has a mail account to connect to the front -end server. So I'm looking at the permissions on the various IIS sites/apps on the server, but I know that it's easy to break Exchange Front-end server perms. So I've got the following in IIS: Exadmin Exchange EchWeb Microsoft-SErver-ActiveSync MobileAdmin OMA And a couple of others that I dont think are relevant. Can I change the permissions on one of these to restrict who can connect to Activesync? As a bonus: Can I do it in a way that does not affect ordinary browser based Exchange Access?   I have been using Bugzilla fine on the older 32-bit Windows Home Server and I have now started a migration to the newer Windows Home Server 2011 with a new machine and a fresh Bugzilla install of 3.6.3. All goes well until I try to check out the email action and I get 'Could not perform this operation because the defaulty mail client in not properly installed. Is this a security /firewall issue? I dont know enough about servers to know what to look for, so any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

• How to see whats taking up space on your hard drive

  Im thinking of switching to one of the macbook pro retinas with a 256gb ssd, im making the move from a 512gb hd, which at the moment is split into a 60bg windows partition (which i dont think im going to have on my new machine) and a 440gb main partition of the main partition ive got 140gb free. So all in if i disregard the 60gb windows part ive got about 200gb free so im using 300gb, which is still a bit to much, ive had this machine 4/5 yrs so its likely to be clogged with files that i no longer need, is there a tool that i can use to view my current hd and see whats taking up the most room, so i can begin to see where i can cut down ? just for a bit of background my current machine runs osx.

• Changing Internet connection on ISA Server 2000

  Hi We are getting a new internet connection installed and will need to unplug the old one and connect this to our ISA Server 2000. Will this be a simple swap out job? We will be given a new ip, which i know i will have to enter into the external network card TCP/IP page. I will also be given the default gateway to enter. The ISP engineer said we may have to reset the ARP? cache, if we dont know how we will have to reset the ISA server? Has anyone any experience? The current connection is with the same ISP but it was owned by the business park were we are located and they linked up an ethernet port to what i assume is their own router. Hope you can help, i know that ISA 2000 is somewhat less easy to use than the newer versions.

  My google-fu must be sucking. i havent been able to find a good solution for the following: numerous Linux server on commodity hardware Trying to do a recovery mirror copy to external harddrives External harddrives are smaller than source harddrives, but larger than data External drives are connected via usb2 (slow) Servers range from 20GB of data to 400GB of data Servers are remote, so hands on access is a pain need to copy boot files. empty external drives currently Basicly, looking for a way to do use a ghosting solution from INSIDE a running linux server to an external harddrive, without booting a cd etc. the rsync/cpio solutions i've looked at dont work great with grub/dev/proc etc. I understand that since the system isnt offline, it wont be a "mirror" image as files change, but thats ok. Are there any free/commercial products that would work?

  Hi all, I wanna simpy exchange 3 directories to a collegue's home directory (I dont have write access to that one) from my home directory, probably using secure copy if possible. I am not good with Linux command line, so I am not sure how to do that and I would very much appreciate it if somebody could help me a bit out with this. I guess it should look something like that scp -r /home/user1/directoy1 /home/user2/directoy1 scp -r /home/user1/directoy2 /home/user2/directoy2 scp -r /home/user1/directoy3 /home/user2/directoy3 Do I need to specify the login name of my collegue so that the files can be copied when he enters his password? • Intel PRO/1000 Server NIC on Windows latency. How to measure?

  Please note - this question is about latency of the card itself. Not latency of internet or anything else. Thank you for your attention on this matter. It is often said that good server NIC does make difference compared to low grade cards and on-board Ethernet chips. I understand that on-board chip will likely consume CPU time and stand-alone card would use its own chip. Also server card would be faster than low-grade card. Are these 2 facts explaining most of the server cards advantages over on-board and low-grade cards ethernet? How would you measure latency on the card itself? I saw some reports stating some microseconds figures of NIC latency but I dont see how to measure that... Any advise will be appreciated.

• show php error message on IIS 7

  I am using IIS as a webserver on my development machine for PHP webdevelopment. Or at least, I am trying to. When there is a syntax error in a PHP script and I open that file in my webbrowser, I just get an 503 "internal server error" and the default IIS error page for this error. Some browsers dont open that file at all, possibly because of the 503 HTTP Response Header. I would like IIS to act in that case just like the apache webserver: display the PHP file with the error anyway, so that the error message gets printed out. How can this be done? EDIT: PHP settings: display_errors is on and error_reporting is set to E_ALL

• Cannot start eventlog service

  On a windows 2k8R2 DC box the eventlog service wont start. When i try to start the service the machine returns: "Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Error 13: The data is invalid." event viewer wont open either. obviously, i dont have an event log for this error. ive already tried clearing the event logs. that didnt do anything. the other DC isnt experiencing this issue.
