  • Testing Web Application: "Mirror" ad-hoc testing in another window

    I don't even really know if the title is the best way to explain what I'm trying to do, but anyway... We have a web app that is being ported to a number of DB backends via MDB2. Our unit tests are pretty lacking at the moment, but our internal users are pretty good at knowing what to test to see if things are broken. What I'm 'imagining' is a browser plug in (don't really care which browser it is for) or a similar system that essentially takes every event from one window and 'mirrors' it in the other browser/s. The reason I'd like this is so that I can have various installations that use different DB backends, and have the user open a window/tab to each installation. From there, however, I'd like them to be able to 'work' in one window and have that 'work' I occur at the same time in each of the 'cloned' windows. From there, they should be able to do some quick eyeballing of the information that comes back, without having to worry about timing differences and so (very much). I know it's a big ask, but I figure if anyone knows of a solution, I'd find it here... Any thoughts?

  • How come JFrame window size in Java does not produce the size of window specified?

    Hi all, I am just messing around trying to make a game right now, but I have had this problem before too. When I specify a specific window size (1024 x 768 for instance) the window produced is just a little larger than what I specified. Very annoying. Is there a reason for this? How do I correct it so the window created is actually the size I want instead of being just a little bit bigger? Up till now I have always just gone back and manually adjusted the size a few pixels at a time until I got the result I wanted, but that is getting old. If there was even a formula I could use that would tell me how many pixels I needed to add/subtract from my my variable that would be excellent! P.S.   • Response Redirect - Open Link in New Window

    First, I've taken the time to review this question which seems to be the most similar, however, the solution that seems to have been selected will not work in my scenario.Not to mention I worry about some of the comments claiming it to be brittle or an inadequate solution. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/104601/asp-net-response-redirect-to-new-window -We have an XML document which basically contains all of the information for a Side menu. -We have numerous URLS which are stored in a constants class. -One of the elements in a string of XML (well call it label) is used to determine if the menu item is created as a LinkButton or a Label. -Links use a custom user control that is used standard for all links across the application (why suggestion on similar thread doesn't work - I don't want all links to open in a new window - just one) -One of the elements in a string of XML (well call it function) is used in a Switch statement to generate our links using Response Redirect. It may look something like this. switch (function) { case goto 1: string url; if (user_group == 1) { url = Constants.CONSTANT1 } else { url = Constants.CONSTANT2 } Response.Redirect(url) case goto 2: ...... default: ...... break; } Given this scenario, I'm trying to find the best way to quickly open a New Window, when a specific case in this switch statement is met. Can it be done with Response Redirect (this seems to be arguable - people say no it can't, yet other people say they have made it work)? If not, what alternative can work here?

  • Best way to delay access to static web pages until services become available with J2EE

    I have a J2EE application front-ended by a bunch of GWT pages. When the server is starting up, it is possible that these static pages can be accessed before the services required to implement the GWT RPC calls (database etc) are available. I wondering what the best approach is to prevent a user accessing this static content before these services become available. For the purpose of this exercise, assume that there is an isInitialized() method somewhere. I am happy with either a page displaying an error message or simply refusing the connection.

  • How do i set this window to topmost?

    How do i set my window above all other? I need a bad but noticeable msg box that closes on its own. Msg is a dummy form which is empty. All i want is its title. The problems with the code is the window isnt created 0,0 (its just whereever windows feels like putting it). The width is correct but i notice if i click firefox or another app window my app doesnt pop up. I know it is being shown bc i can see it in the taskbar at the bottom for a brief second. So the bugs so far Doesnt go topmost if i click another app Isnt 0,0 How do i fix this? { var msg = new Msg(); msg.Text = (has ?   • Change Active Taskbar Application

    I currently have the Buttons on other taskbars set so Never combine So I can have multiple Chrome windows open and will see multiple Chromes on the taskbar. Now the problem is that sometimes I don't really know which one I'm currently looking at. Is there a way to have the active application take on a different color or some other indication that it's the active window. To clarify I don't need the title bar of the application to be a different color, just the "button" that shows up on the taskbar This is for windows 8

  • WebBrowser Control in ATL window. How to free up memory on window unload? I'm stuck.

    Hello there. I have a Win32 C++ Application. There is the _tWinMain(...) Method with GetMessage(...) in a while loop at the end. Before GetMessage(...) I create the main window with HWND m_MainHwnd = CreateWindowExW(WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW | WS_EX_LAYERED, CAxWindow::GetWndClassName(), _TEXT("http://www.-website-.com"), WS_POPUP, 0, 0, 1024, 768, NULL, NULL, m_Instance, NULL); ShowWindow(m_MainHwnd) If I do not create the main window, my application needs about 150K in memory. But with creating the main window with the WebBrowser Control inside, the memory usage increases to 8500K. But, I want to dynamically unload the main window. My _tWinMain(...) keeps running! Im unloading with DestroyWindow(m_MainHwnd) But the WebBrowser control won't unload and free up it's memory used! Application memory used is still 8500K! I can also get the WebBrowser Instance or with some additional code the WebBrowser HWND IWebBrowser2* m_pWebBrowser2; CAxWindow wnd = (CAxWindow)m_MainHwnd; HRESULT hRet = wnd.QueryControl(IID_IWebBrowser2, (void**)&m_pWebBrowser2); So I tried to free up the memory used by main window and WebBrowser control with (let's say it's experimental): if(m_pWebBrowser2) m_pWebBrowser2->Release(); DestroyWindow(m_hwndWebBrowser); //<-- just analogous OleUninitialize(); No success at all. I also created a wrapper class which creates the main window. I created a pointer and freed it up with delete: Wrapper* wrapper = new Wrapper(); //wrapper creates main window inside and shows it //...do some stuff delete(wrapper); No success. Still 8500K. So please, how can I get rid of the main window and it's WebBrowser control and free up the memory, returning to about 150K. Later I will recreate the window.     I have come to realize the tremendous amount of information Google has on its users. I am a typical Google user, using Gmail, Google Reader. This means that right now Google now has the following information at its disposal: Who my friends are (Gmail) What we talk about (Gmail, Google Talk) What news sources I follow (Google Reader) How frequently I check them and which ones I consider important enough to share (Google Reader) A lot of other stuff What I search about and when (if I search when logged in) (Web search) I have no reason to believe that this information is used for reasons other than adjusting what ads I am displayed when I visit a site with Google Ads. However, I have realised that I am in no position to be certain that this is absolutely true, or that it always will be. On the other hand, I don't want to reach the uber-privacy-maniac state of maintaining my own email server and installing a desktop RSS reader in all my machines. So, I am asking for your opinions: What services constitute a good set of alternatives to the Google services, promising better privacy? Pros: Privacy Free Powerful Usable

  • windows 2003 remote desktop fail connect after windows update

    I have a number of windows servers, both win2003, win2003r2 and win2003r2 64 bit. After installing windows updates on the machines and rebooting terminal services give me an immediate "not connect" message. The servers are running fine and you can connect via the physical machine. Once you reboot the box (with remote restart in some cases when it's not accessible) terminal services behaves itself and allows a connection. Whilst it's not a show stopper it is rather annoying when you can't see your box. Anyone know why this is or what the cause is?

  • Windows XP-64 loses audio sounds, drive letters... why?

    Until sometime in early December, I had a wonderfully functioning XP-64 system. It was configured to auto download/install MS patches. I occassionally update the software on it, e.g. Open Office, Adobe Reader, Skype, but I don't fetch hundreds of tools or anything much beyond what I just mentioned. In December, suddenly my audio stopped, and drive letters assigned to various mount points on other machines quit being available. Apparantly, the services that support these (and some others) are now not starting up when I boot/login. There isn't anything obvious in the event log. If I manually restart the associated services, these facilities come back on line and work for awhile (a day) but pretty soon the problem reappears. I don't reboot very often, nor do I log out out much. Hints?

  • Toshiba eStudio 281c turn off snmp in driver.

    I have a customer with an eStudio 281c colour copier/printer and I'm having an issue with terminal services. Basically, the driver has the ability to query the printer for its configuration over snmp. I've set it to manual rather than auto so it's effectively switched off. Trouble is, when logging into terminal services it's still trying to communicate with the printer. This is an issue because when it fails it then defaults to being a different printer model with a different tray configuration. Users can still print but the settings are wrong. Any ideas?

  • Windows Security Center Service is missing

    I am trying to fix a Windows 7 machine here that has been infected with all kinds of Malware. I have removed all of them as far as I can see but I am stumped by one last task. One little bugger managed to remove the Windows Security Center service from the list of Windows services. So I cannot start it or set to automatically start. At the moment I cannot get the Windows firewall to turn on or any anti-virus software. The security center shows the following image when I try: Does anyone know how to add this back to the list of services so I may set it to start. I don't have a backup of the registry for this computer (it's not mine). Many thanks TT

    I need to configure SSL for RDP, and am following the instructions described here: http://thelazyadmin.com/blogs/thelazyadmin/archive/2007/01/26/Configure-RDP-over-SSL-with-SelfSSL.aspx My client's server already has a SSL certificate (.cer file), and I attempted to import it so that Terminal Services would recognize it. The importing instructions I followed are: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816794#3. Unfortunately, when I click "Edit" from the "RDP-tcp Properties" dialog (for a Terminal Services certificate), no certificate appears. How can I get the certificate to appear here? Thanks!

  • Is there a "Run Level Configurator" for Windows XP?

    I have been having trouble with something causing my Windows XP system to take 6-8 minutes to startup from a cold boot. Something is happening during startup that is causing the system to crawl. I have a lot of Linux experience , especially configuring run levels so that some programs start before others do. I also know how to do that on Windows XP but its really complex, and with 50 services I'd have to keep a giant spreadsheet to keep it all organized. Is there such a thing as a Windows XP Tool that "emulates" the Linux run-level editors that I can use to control the order than services start on my system?

  • Configure custom SSL certificate for RDP on Windows Server 2012 in Remote Administration mode?

    So the release of Windows Server 2012 has removed a lot of the old Remote Desktop related configuration utilities. In particular, there is no more Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration utility that gave you access to the RDP-Tcp properties dialog that let you configure a custom certificate for the RDSH to use. In its place is a nice new consolidated GUI that is part of the overall "edit deployment properties" workflow in the new Server Manager. The catch is that you only get access to that workflow if you have the Remote Desktop Services role installed (as far as I can tell). This seems like a bit of an oversight on Microsoft's part. How can we configure a custom SSL certificate for RDP on Windows Server 2012 when it's running in the default Remote Administration mode without needlessly installing the Remote Desktop Services role?

  • SonicWall and Windows CA

    I'm attempting to import a certificate created by a CA I've set up in Windows using AD CS. I've done the following: 1) Created my own CA (MyCompany) 2) Enabled web services (mostly for ease of configuration) 3) Generated a certificate request on the Sonicwall itself 4) Used web services to sign the certificate 5) Imported the sign certificate into the Sonicwall ...this caused the certificate to show "No" for the Verified field. 6) Imported the CA's certificate. This is where I get stuck. I attempted to import the CRL list, but get the following error: CRL Error - Verification failed using CA certificate. No further errors appear in the logs. Without the CRL list the certificate won't verify and it doesn't appear under the "Administration" page so I can select it for use via HTTPS. Any ideas?

    I've seen tutorials articles and posts on how to build datawarehouses with star and snowflakes schemas, denormalization of OLTP databases fact and dimension tables and so on. Also seen comments like: Star schemas are for datamarts, at best. There is absolutely no way a true enterprise data warehouse could be represented in a star schema, or snowflake either. I want to create a database that will server for reporting services and maybe (if that isn't enough) install analisys services and extract reports and data from cubes. My question was : Is it really necesarry to redesign my current database and follow the star/snowflake schemas with fact and dimension tables ? Thank you

  • TS connection lost but not local

    I have an office that is connected to a shared db server and terminal services server, that other offices use as well, through a vpn tunnel. For some reason all workstations in the office will lose connectivity to the remote address but will remain connected to their local internet. I have checked both firewalls to ensure all settings match accordingly. They seem to go down at routine times every day and it doesn't last longer than a minute or two. Any ideas of what this may be? OS: Windows Server 2003R2 Terminal Services 5.2 Symantec Gateway 320 & Symantec Firewall/VPN 100
