• Java - Unknown characters passing as [a-zA-z0-9]*?

  Hello, I'm no expert in regex but I need to parse some input I have no control over, and make sure I filter away any strings that don't have A-z and/or 0-9. When I run this, Pattern p = Pattern.compile("^[a-zA-Z0-9]*$"); //fixed typo if(!p.matcher(gottenData).matches()) System.out.println(someData); //someData contains gottenData certain spaces + an unknown symbol somehow slip through the filter (gottenData is the red rectangle): In case you're wondering, it DOES also display Text, it's not all like that. For now, I don't mind the [?] as long as it also contains some string along with it. Please help. [EDIT] as far as I can tell from the (very large) input, the [?]'s are either white spaces either nothing at all; maybe there's some sort of encoding issue, also perhaps something to do with #text nodes (input is xml)

  hi everyone, i have a parent class called Course, and two child class PostgradCourse and UndergradCourse. i have a hashmap HashMap courses; i store all the postgradCourse and undergradCourse objects in the hashmap. i want to retrieve an undergradCourse object from the hashmap using the key. Course course = courses.get(courseCode); then i want to call a method in the UndergradCourse class, setUnits() method course.setUnits(); but the compiler say cannot find symbol- method setUnit() im pretty sure the problem is the compiler is looking for a method setUnit() in the Course class instead of UndergradCourse class i did this but its not working UndergradCourse course = courses.get(courseCode); results in incompatible type so how can i retrieve undergradCourse object from the hashmap as an undergradCourse object instead of course object? so then i can call a method inside the child class thanks in advance

• Need to get pixel averages of a vector sitting on a bitmap...

  I'm currently involved in a hardware project where I am mapping triangular shaped LED to traditional bitmap images. I'd like to overlay a triangle vector onto an image and get the average pixel data within the bounds of that vector. However, I'm unfamiliar with the math needed to calculate this. Does anyone have an algorithm or a link that could send me in the right direction? I'm not even clear what this type of math is called. I got a simple input text field in a HTML web page, and I have done some Javascript to capture the string and check if there are any strange characters other than numbers and characters in the string. But I am not sure if it is correct. • Find which MFC child window would receive a mouse click

  So, I have a plugin to an MFC program. I'm using a mouse event hook (from SetWindowsHookEx) to capture clicks. The host application can have any number of (possibly overlapping) child windows open, but I only want to intercept clicks in a particular child window. Is there a way to figure out in the hook proc which of the child windows would process the click? I guess it's something like enumerate all child windows, looking at Z-order, but I'm very unfamiliar with the MFC/Win32 libraries, and I'm not able to find any good discussion about how to enumerate all children and calculate which is topmost.

  I'd like to capture the output from a tool from the command line into an nmake macro. If this were a normal command line script, it would look like this: > MyTool.exe > output.txt > set /P MyVariable=<output.txt > echo %MyVariable% However, I can't seem to find anything relevant in the nmake doc on macros that is relevant.   I'm trying to be able to have a global exception capture where I can add extra information when an error happens. I have two classes, "crawler" and "amazon". What I want to do is be able to call "crawl", execute a function in amazon, and use the exception handling in the crawl function. • Ruby: Read large data from stdout and stderr of an external process on Windows

  Greetings, all, I need to run a potentially long-running process from Ruby on Windows and subsequently capture and parse the data from the external process's standard output and error. A large amount of data can be sent to each, but I am only necessarily interested in one line at a time (not capturing and storing the whole of the output). After a bit of research, I found that the Open3 class would take care of executing the process and giving me IO objects connected to the process's standard output and error (via popen3). Open3.popen3("external-program.bat") do |stdin, out, err, thread| # Step3.profit() ? end However, I'm not sure how to continually read from both streams without blocking the program. Since calling IO#readlines on out or err when a lot of data has been sent results in a memory allocation error, I'm trying to continuously check both streams for available input, but not having much luck with any of my implementations.   I'm currently writing a custom forms application that allows a user to design a data capture form. I store the field's ControlType and ControlAssembly in the database and then create them on the forms at runtime. For example: ControlType = `System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox`. ControlAssembly= `System.Web`. So I can therefor create a fully qualified name and create the control doing the following: string target = Assembly.CreateQualifiedName("System.Web", field.ControlType); Type type = Type.GetType(target); Control control = Activator.CreateInstance(type) as Control; But, this will cause an error as "System.Web" is not a valid assembly name. The assembly name itself has to be fully qualified, i.e. System.Web.Extensions would be: "System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" Is there any way I can get the fully qualified name of the assembly System.Web without having to store the entirity of the version, culture and PKT?

  I understand the process of using a 3rd party library to access functions outside of my code base, but how do i actually set up Visual Studio 2005 to include them in the project. I have a 3rd party library with some headers, some cpp's, and some .lib files. In the projects properties I add the top level external library directory as an include directory, I add the additional library directory at the same level put this is project properties too. In the .cpp file where I use the functions, do I put the #include in its header file? In the top level projects header file? in the cpp? I've tried all that, but I get "unresolved external symbol"... grrrrrrrrrrrrr

  So, I have a screen capture utility (it takes full screen shots and saves it to png files) I've written, and it uses SM_CXVIRTUALSCREEN and SM_CYVIRTUALSCREEN to determine the width and height of the desktop. I then get the desktop DC and copy out the bits and save them as png. BitBlt( backDC, 0, 0, backBufferCX, backBufferCX, desktopDC, X_SRC, 0, SRCCOPY ); Here X_SRC is usually 0, UNLESS THE DESKTOP HAS BEEN EXTENDED "TO THE LEFT". In that case it needs to be -1280px, for example, if the left monitor measures 1280px. How can I determine if the desktop's starting point is negative (if the user has extended his desktop to the left?)

I think I understand the differences between them conceptually only one :symbol instance per project one @ivar per instance multiple "strings" - as they are created whenever referenced (?) Feel free to correct me! The main confusion comes from understanding the rules & conventions of what Rails expects - where and WHY?   I have got a problem with calling a global function, which takes a pointer to a function as a parameter. Here is the declaration of the global function: int lmdif ( minpack_func_mn fcn, void *p, int m, int n, double *x, double *fvec, double ftol) The "minpack_func_mn" symbol is a typedef for a pointer to a function, defined as: typedef int (*minpack_func_mn)(void *p, int m, int n, const double *x, double *fvec, int iflag ); I want to call the "lmdif" function with a pointer to a function which is a member of a class I created, and here is the declaration of this class function: int LT_Calibrator::fcn(void *p, int m, int n, const double *x, double *fvec,int iflag) I am calling a global function like this: info=lmdif(&LT_Calibrator::fcn, 0, m, n, x, fvec, ftol) Unfortunately, I get a compiler error, which says: "error C2664: 'lmdif' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'int (__thiscall LT_Calibrator::* )(void *,int,int,const double *,double *,int)' to 'minpack_func_mn' 1 There is no context in which this conversion is possible" Is there any way to solve that problem?

• Showing custom model validation exceptions in the Django admin site.

  I have a booking model that needs to check if the item being booked out is available. I would like to have the logic behind figuring out if the item is available centralised so that no matter where I save the instance this code validates that it can be saved. At the moment I have this code in a custom save function of my model class: def save(self): if self.is_available(): # my custom check availability function super(MyObj, self).save() else: # this is the bit I'm stuck with.. raise forms.ValidationError('Item already booked for those dates') This works fine - the error is raised if the item is unavailable, and my item is not saved. I can capture the exception from my front end form code, but what about the Django admin site? How can I get my exception to be displayed like any other validation error in the admin site?

• [Android] Weird black line on top of list view

  I am creating a layout with a ListView and at the very top of the list there is this weird black line that I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of! It's part of the ListView because it moves up and down as I size the ListView. Has anyone ran into this before? I couldn't get DDMS to take a screen capture for some reason so I took a picture of the screen with my G1, so please forgive the quality! As you can see the line is there at the top of the fade out in the list.

• How to return the full file path in a C# / ASP.NET web application?

  This should be really simple, but I have tried many solutions posted on the internet so I thought I'd give this a try here. I have a VS 2008 web application that I need to capture the full file path (directories and file name) from the selected file. So user selects a file and then clicks on one of the buttons which transfers control to my code for processing. So how do I get the file path? I can get the file name, but not the path. Thanks!

• In a Linux user space process what is the address of the vsyscall page?

  I would like to acquire the address of the vsyscall page for my own uses. I only have two ideas here: alter the compiler to store this information in some known location after it is given to __start, or read /proc/[pid]/maps. I really don't want to read /proc/ as that is slow and shouldn't be necessary. I also don't want to make compiler modifications. Does anyone have an alternative? Is there a symbol I should know about? Its at the point I'm tempted to stuff this functionality into an ioctl call in a module I've developed as part of this work!

If I replace the class declaration with the following: public class CollectionAttribute<E extends Collection<?>> Then I can't reference the parametrized type of the collection. Am I missing something or have I reached a limitation with generics in Java ?

• How can I get the edit control in a cell of a DataGridView to validate itself?

  It appears that the only way to capture the keypress events within a cell of a DataGridView control, in order to validate user input as they type, is to us the DataGridView controls OnEditControlShowing event, hook up a method to the edit control's (e.Control) keypress event and do some validation. My problem is that I've built a heap of custom DataGridView column classes, with their own custom cell types. These cells have their own custom edit controls (things like DateTimePickers, and Numeric or Currency textboxes.) I want to do some numeric validation for those cells that have Numeric of Currency Textboxes as their edit controls but not all the other cell types. How can I determine, within the DataGridView's "OnEditControlShowing" override, whether or not a particular edit control needs some numeric validation? (In the meantime I've restorted to setting the Tag property of my custom edit controls to a known value and any Edit Controls I find in the OnEditControlShowing override, I hook to my validation routine - I don't like that much!)
