• Resumable Upload in Ruby on Rails

  Hi, I have been searching for a way for resumable file upload in RoR. In conclusion, I found out other than Java Applet no client-side-and-cross-platform agent can access the file system in such a way that to request the file from the position where the upload got terminated (due to any reason) with some exceptions like http://github.com/taf2/resume-up/tree/master (built in native Ruby, but requires google gears which is not "reliable" yet when it comes to cross platform almost same story as of ActiveX!) Since the only reliable option left is java applet, is there any good tutorial/forum/documentation for those paid java applets, such as "thin slice upload" etc. to make it work with rails application. I have found one http : // github . com / dassi / mediaclue , its a non-multi-ligual-German-Application in which they used jumploader. But in that application, I am unable to see resumable functionality. Scratching my head against their documentation, i found out http : // jumploader.com / doc_resume.html It tells that jumploader has resume functionality in Cross session resume, the one i am looking for (if the user close the browser the new session gets hold on uncompleted uploaded files from the old session against the user id). But I cant find any example on their demos page which actually pause/RESUME functionality in a continuous manner! Is it even possible to achieve that kind of resumable functionality. Please tell me about any options/example/demos preferable deployed in rails. I shall be very much obliged. ~ Thanks

• Specifying SOAP Headers for a Zend_Soap Service

  I have a generally straight forward web service that I've written (converting code to ZF from a Java implementation of the same service and trying to maintain the same wsdl structure as much as possible). The service loads a PHP class, rather than individual functions. The PHP class contains three different functions within it. Everything seems to be working just fine, except that I can't seem to figure out how to specify that a given function parameter should be passed as a SOAP header. I've not seen any mention of SOAP headers in the Server context, only how to pass header parameters with a client to a server. In addition to the standard parameters for the function that would be sent in the SOAP body and detailed in the docblock, I would like to specify two parameters (a username and password) that would be sent in a SOAP header. I have to assume this is possible, but haven't been able to find anything online, nor have I had any responses to a similar post on Zend's forum. Is there something that can be added in the docblock area to specify a parameter as a header (maybe in a similar fashion to using WebParam?)? Any suggestions/examples on how to get this accomplished would be greatly appreciated!

• NMEA data received but empty. Is there any secret?

  I have a tablet "Futjitsu Stylistic Q550". It's running on Windows 7 (not Phone!). It has a built-in GPS-receiver "Sierra Wireless". I need to parse NMEA data from COM-port. I can do it but it's always empty! Like "$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53". I've tried standing on open space a long time (so my Android device had located me via GPS for a long time) but NMEA data still empty. So I suppose that GPS is off. But I don't know how to figure it out. I've tried send to COM port $PARAM,START,0*61 but no changes. I've tried to insert SIM-card into the device, as it was suggested on one forum but result was the same. Well is it possible that GPS is idle or something or it's just not working? And if it is idle or off how can I enable it? And.. That looks strange but GSV enumerates satellites but everyone of them has still no data e.g.: $GPGSV,4,1,16,32,,,,11,,,,23,,,*78

• Search and Matching algorithm

  Hello everyone. I am trying to come up with an algorithm to do the following: I have total 12 cells that I need to fill until program stops. I have 3 rows and each row has 4 columns. As an example, let me illustrate this as in airplane. So you have 3 rows and each row has 4 columns and you have window/aisle seats. Each row will have a window seat, aisle seat, aisle seat and window seat (|WA AW| Just like seat arrangement in airplane). At each iteration (different set of passengers), there would be some number of passengers (between 1 and 12) and I need to seat them closest together possible (Seat together). And I do this for next group (each iteration) until program stops (It will stop when I am done with every group). For example, I have 3 passengers (A,B,and C) and A wants to seat in Window, B wants to seat in Aisle and C wants to seat in Window. Assuming that all the seats (all 12) are available, I could place them like |A# BC| or |CB #A| and mark the seats dirty (so I don’t pick same seats again for next passengers). And I do this for next group (iteration). I am not sure if this right forum, but if somebody can advise me how I should accomplish, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

The same as in tutorial. Just in case So the pivot table has name 'enrollment' and has 2 columns: page_id , menugroup_id I tried to add pk in pivot table, but it changed nothing I tried to add/remove db relation between pages/menugroups and pivot table (InnoDB) but with no luck I tried save all data in controller, but with the same bad result:( I am still getting the same error: Undefined index: enrollment in ORM line: $columns = array($this-_has_many[$alias]['foreign_key'], $this-_has_many[$alias]['far_key']); Could somebody tell me, what can be else wrong? • Python vs all the major professional languages [closed]

  I've been reading up a lot lately on comparisons between Python and a bunch of the more traditional professional languages - C, C++, Java, etc, mainly trying to find out if its as good as those would be for my own purposes. I can't get this thought out of my head that it isn't good for 'real' programming tasks beyond automation and macros. Anyway, the general idea I got from about two hundred forum threads and blog posts is that for general, non-professional-level progs, scripts, and apps, and as long as it's a single programmer (you) writing it, a given program can be written quicker and more efficiently with Python than it could be with pretty much any other language. But once its big enough to require multiple programmers or more complex than a regular person (read: non-professional) would have any business making, it pretty much becomes instantly inferior to a million other languages. Is this idea more or less accurate? (I'm learning Python for my first language and want to be able to make any small app that I want, but I plan on learning C eventually too, because I want to get into driver writing eventually. So I've been trying to research each ones strengths and weaknesses as much as I can.) Anyway, thanks for any input

• Get the first and last posts in a thread

  I am trying to code a forum website and I want to display a list of threads. Each thread should be accompanied by info about the first post (the "head" of the thread) as well as the last. My current database structure is the following: threads table: id - int, PK, not NULL, auto-increment name - varchar(255) posts table: id - int, PK, not NULL, auto-increment thread_id - FK for threads The tables have other fields as well, but they are not relevant for the query. I am interested in querying threads and somehow JOINing with posts so that I obtain both the first and last post for each thread in a single query (with no subqueries). So far I am able to do it using multiple queries, and I have defined the first post as being: SELECT * FROM threads t LEFT JOIN posts p ON t.id = p.thread_id ORDER BY p.id LIMIT 0, 1 The last post is pretty much the same except for ORDER BY id DESC. Now, I could select multiple threads with their first or last posts, by doing: SELECT * FROM threads t LEFT JOIN posts p ON t.id = p.thread_id ORDER BY p.id GROUP BY t.id But of course I can't get both at once, since I would need to sort both ASC and DESC at the same time. What is the solution here? Is it even possible to use a single query? Is there any way I could change the structure of my tables to facilitate this? If this is not doable, then what tips could you give me to improve the query performance in this particular situation?

• Which Perl moudle can handle variety of date formats with unicode characters ?

  My requirement is parsing xml files which contains wide varieties of timestamps based on the locales at which they are written. They may contain Unicode characters in case of Chinese or Korean locales. I have to parse these timestamps and put then in a standard format something like 2009-11-26 12:40:54 to put them in a oracle database. Sometimes I may not even know the locale and yet I have to parse the timestamps. I am looking for a module that automatically detects the timestamp format (including unicode characters for am and pm in their local language) and converts in to epoch time so that I can convert it back to what ever way I like to. I have gone through similar questions in this forum. Few suggested DateFormat module, and Date::Parse module. The perl distribution I am using is 5.10 so Date::Manip doesn't come as a core module. As I am supposed to use just the basic core modules and few CPAN modules(on request I cannot ask for all), I request you to kindly suggest me a good module that suffices all my requirements.   Hello SO. My websystem im coding with now is integrated from the originally phpBB system. With this i mean when you log on my websystem, you have actually logged into the forum from the login page. Now i came to the "log out" part, and i want to make it smart. Right now its a simply link with logout: <a href="<?php echo BASEDIR; ?>../../ucp.php?mode=logout&sid=<? echo $user->data['session_id']; ?>" style="margin-left: 14px; font-size: 10px;">- Log Out</a> As you see in the link it refers to the forum´s ucp.php?mode=logout, and you need to have the SID variable in it in order to log out right.. anyway.. I want to do this log out part in a smart way, i mean, not so you land on the forum´s "you have now been logged out", i want something maybe like run this page in background when you click, and then it refreshes the current page your on. Or should it be smarter just try to modify the phpbb file ucp.php? I think its hard coded, and not the way I am coding, so thats why i find it abit tricky. Thank you for your answers and examples on how this could be done, in a smart way..

• Android EVO4G SenseUI Flash Lite 4 cookie problem

  Got the EVO4G today, watching it run Actionscript3 out of the box was EXTREMELY cool. Ran into a problem though. When I connect to a server which creates an HTTP session and hands a cookie to my application, subsequent calls from my client to the server do not have the cookie attached to the HTTP request. That causes the server to invalidate the session and my user is logged out. This appears to be a bug between the Flash Lite 4 player and the SenseUI/browser running in Android 2.1 for the EVO4G. This same application works on other platforms, including the HTC HERO if compiled for flash lite 2. If I hardcode my HTTP requests in the browser address bar, the cookies work, so I know cookies are working on the phone. But when my application is running in the Flash Player, the cookies are not working. I realize this may not be the best forum for this question, so if you cant answer or help me, if you could give me some more appropriate forums to ask on, I would appreciate that. Thanks!

• ASP.Net MVC and Windows 7 404 error

  O.K. Stupid question..... I sepnt nearly a day getting an MVC site working, and then I published it. After that, the hell began. I'm using Windows 7, Visual Studio 2008 and MVC. I published it and first the Default.aspx wouldn't come up. I gave up on playing with that for a few and just did the easy thing a typed in default.aspx. I'll fix that problem later. So, I clicked on one of my navigation buttons which prior to this worked just fine in the internal development IIS, and I get a 404 error. I spent two days surfing the Microsoft support forums and every other support forum I can find. No fix. So, I tried something a little different. Just to see if I screwed up. I created a new TestMVC application. Set the output to a website on the local IIS. Compiled and after typing in the default.aspx (it was set as the startup file in the project) I then clicked on the About button on the base MVC application. And what do I get? 404. I know this is new, folks, but this is crazy. What is it about this process that would take this much effort to get it right, especially since it works on the test server.

  I've installed Google Chrome on Hardy via the .deb file and would like to configure apt-get for automatic updates. [I have another machine running Ubuntu Karmic where this works fine; apt-get knows the package as 'google-chrome'; I'm now using a Dell Mini 10 with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS installed] As part of the .deb install, two entries have been added to the third- party software sources tab: http://dl.google.com/linux/deb stable main http://dl.google.com/linux/deb stable non-free main However if I check for updates with either of these clicked, I get the following error: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/dists/stable/Release Unable to find expected entry main/binary-lpia/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) There is a thread here which indicates others have had the same problem: http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=097d103f87b49abe&hl=en This references a further thread: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=38608 which suggests the problem has been fixed. Despite this I remain unable to get it to work, and none of the suggested workarounds seem to work either. Ideas ? Thanks.

• Symfony 2 - Updating a table based on newly inserted record in another table

  I'm trying to create a small forum application using Symfony 2 and Doctrine 2. My ForumTopic entity has a last_post field (oneToOne mapping). Now when I persist my new post with $em->persist($post); I want to update my ForumTopic entity so its last_post field would reference this new post. I have just realised that it cannot be done with a Doctrine postPersist Listener, so I decided to use a small hack, and tried: $em->persist($post); $em->flush(); $topic->setLastPost($post); $em->persist($post); $em->flush(); but it doesn't seem to update my topics table. I also took a look at http://docs.doctrine-project.org/projects/doctrine-orm/en/2.1/reference/working-with-associations.html#transitive-persistence-cascade-operations hoping it will solve the problem by adding cascade: [ 'persist' ] to my Topic.orm.yml file, but it didn't help, either. Could anyone point me to a solution or an example class? • How can I get the search parameters from jqgrid in the server side?

  I've been visiting this forum a lot without registering since several months ago, and I really like it. So, thanks in advance to all the members. Now I'd like to make my first question. I've been using Jqgrid for a few time, and I've managed to have it display the rows and buttons, but now I need to do a search, a complex one, and I thought that "automatically" jqgrid would send the parameters to the server, I mean: sField, searchField, sOper, searchOper, sValue, searchString, sFilter and/or filters I'm not sure at all which ones it has to send, and I thought it would be just the same as it sends 'page', 'rows' and 'sord'. But I'm missing something, because, for example, I can get 'page', 'rows' and 'sord' using: $limit = $this->getRequest()->getParam('rows', 10); but I get nothing by using: $params = $_REQUEST['filters'] or $params = $this->getRequest()->getParam('sFilter'); I'm using PHP, Zend and json. I didn't post any code because my doubt is kind of generic, but I will do it if it was needed. I've searched a lot, and read the documentation, but I just don't see it. I will appreciate your help, thanks!

• Why do my debugger randomly jump out of debug mode?

  Hi, I'm experiencing a very annoying behavior with the debugger in Visual Studio 2008 Professional. I'm debugging a ASP.NET web application, and when stepping through the code the debugger randomly "jumps out" of debug mode, but without the debugger stopping. So when I'm stepping through my code like this: step over, step over, step over, step over, ... , step over The debugger continues as If I was pressing Continue, like this: step over, step over, step over, step over, ... , continue Thing is, I never touch continue! So, the debugger is still running, the ASP.NET page renders, but my "stepping" ends. This is of course very annoying. And it happens totally randomly. Before switching to Windows 7 and IIS 7.5, I've never experienced this problem. My colleague who debugs the exact same code, but on a Windows XP machine running IIS 6 have never had this problem either. So my thought is, perhaps this is Windows 7 or IIS 7.5 related? I've already made sure <compilation defaultLanguage="c#" debug="true" /> is set in web.config. Have anyone experienced the same problem, or perhaps have an idea why I'm experiencing this annoying behavior? Thanx! P.S I realize this question might be more Visual Studio 2008 specific rather than programming specific, but I figure my best chance to find somebody that experienced the same problem would be at a forum for programmers (since naturally, programmers are the most frequent users of Visual Studio 2008).

• UIImagePickerController Crash after 5 to 7 pictures - again

  OK, I know this one has been beaten to death on this forum, but I'm still having the memory problem and I have tried all the techniques on the web to get around this. I have an application that uses the UIImagePickerController to capture an image from the camera. I've tried both creating and destroying the controller for each picture, and keeping it around for the life of the app. Both are failing. The first way crashes the phone almost immediately. While the second, leaving the controller around, crashes the app after about 5 to 7 pictures. My original app used an undocumented API to get around this issue, but Apple rejected it because of this. I really need to get my app to the store. Does anyone have code showing how they got around the issue? I know there is a way because there are apps on the store using the camera, but I just can't seem to get it. Any help is greatly appreciated! I can post my code here too, if needed.

• Does implementing a Java class under an open-source library's package name constitutes a modificatio

  Greetings, I understand that this is not the best forum for getting legal advices. But I am still wondering if anybody has some experience around this topic, or can point me to relevant resources that explain it. I have tried to search it online but could not find clear answers. Assuming I am using a Java open-source library from "somecompany", specifically its entities in the "org.somecompany.somepackage". During development, I found that I need to access some of the internals of that package that are not exposed through its public interface. So I thought maybe creating my own classes under the same "org.somecompany.somepackage" name would make that easier. My question is: does this constitutes a modification of the open-source library? The fully qualified name of my classes look like "org.somecompany.somepackage.myclass". It does seem an "extension" of the original library, even though I am not modifying the original library source or binary. I am also not adding my classes to the open-source jar files. Any advice or pointer to resources will be appreciated!

  I'm triying to combine a TabBar + Navigation app. I have 5 tab bars, 4 are listing of stuff and drill down to details views. This is what I do, with a clean project: I start with a TabBar template app. I put 5 tab bar buttons. I create a controller like: @interface FirstViewController : UINavigationController { } I put the main window.xib on tree mode & change the selected first view to FirstViewController I select the TabBar Controller in Interface builder, go to TabBar Attributes & change the class to navigation controler. Select the fist view & put the nib name "SecondView" In response, I get a blank screen. I must add that I wanna navigate from the details views, no from the main windows. i.e in the main window tab bar 1 is the list of people. I select a person then wanna navigate to the detail window.

• How to write a generic USB Host Driver for Printers from various vendors?

  I want to develop a USB host on an embedded device that will talk to printers from various vendors. Drivers for the vendor specific printers would be available on PC which is ultimately communicating with printer but my device is facilitating this communication and needs to perform the basic handshaking/setup of the printer (i.e, it needs to know when the printer is connected, what are the socket IDs that needs to be opened for CTRL and DATA transmissions etc). All of these printers are supposed to comply with IEEE 1284.4 standards but I see that many of them vary quiet a bit. One approach I have is to take the USB traces of handshaking from each of these printers and write various sections of code respectively (I know, that sounds ridiculous!). Is there a generic way to do this? Is there any available forum where these standard informations are mentioned? For eg: EPSON uses 'EPSON-CTRL' and 'EPSON-DATA' for its control and data services which needs to be provided to get the socket ID for these services. I am pretty sure HPs, Canon's etc would have their own service names as well. As per the standards, this was supposed to be captured in IANA but I dont see anything there. • Always send certain values with an ajax request/post

  I'm building a system that displays a list of user, and on selection of a user requests some form of password. These values are saved in a hidden field on the page, and need to be sent with every request as a form of authentication. (I'm aware of the MITM-vulnerability that lies herein, but it's a very low-key system, so security is not a large concern). Now I need to send these values with each and every request, to auth the currently 'logged in' user. I'd like to automate this, via ajaxSetup, however i'm running into some issues. My first try was: init_user_auth: function(){ $.ajaxSetup({ data: { 'user' : site_user.selected_user_id(), 'passcode': site_user.selected_user_pc(), 'barcode' : site_user.selected_user_bc() } }); }, However, as I should have known, this reads the values once, at the time of the call to ajaxSetup, and never rereads them. What I need is a way to actually call the functions every time an ajax-call is made. I'm currently trying to understand what is happening here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/jquery-dev/OBcEfgvTJ9I, however through the flamewar and very low-level stuff going on there, I'm not exactly sure I get what is going on. Is this the way to proceed, or should I just face facts and manually add login-info to each ajax-call?

• allowing bb code but not java script

  Hello im trying to get the hang of using bb codes onto my normal php site ( not forum or anything just a normal site ) I have seen a few posts like this one http://www.pixel2life.com/forums/index.php?/topic/10659-php-bbcode-parser/ which says i need a bb parser. I was just wondering can anyone show me how i would use one ? I have a status box were users can update there status but i would like to allow bb codes but not java script. So when im doing my inserting into the db i strip the status like so.. $status= mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['status']); $status2= strip_tags($status); And that stops the java script and tags from getting though but i need the bb code tags to come though but carry on blocking the java script code is there anyway to do this ? Also then i just echo it out echo $status2 ; But just plain text shows so was just wondering if anyone knows how to let though bb code and stop java script and could some one show me how to use the bb parasher ? also need to know how to echo out the bb coding...

  Still getting to grips with jQuery and I am pleased to have got as far as I have, especially help from the posts in this forum. However, now got to a working function that does what I want, that is to create a radio group that looks like a button. It pulls data via json and loops through creating the radio buttons. • jQuery: part of a function not executing

  Hi. I have a tabbed setup on the page and I want to automatically make corresponding menu tab highlighted as well as corresponding content div show depending on # hash. Example: http://design.vitalbmx.com/user_menu/member_profile_so.html -- no hash, opens 1st tab http://design.vitalbmx.com/user_menu/member_profile_so.html#setup -- #setup, should open "Setup" tab As you can see it works for highlighting "Setup" tab. But content div does not change. • Move and rename file in android

  I am trying to copy a file to another folder in the android, but so far, i got no success. I manage to do so with a selected image and when taking a photo, but not with files. I've read and tried several solutions passed by the community (searched over the forum and the internet), but none of it was able to solve my problem when copying. First things first. I added the permissions to my manifest: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> after that, before copying a file, i print its filepath and the directory file path: 06-10 11:11:11.700: I/System.out(1442): /mimetype/storage/sdcard/Misc/Javascript erros for Submit and Plan buttons in IE.doc 06-10 11:11:11.710: I/System.out(1442): /storage/sdcard/mywfm/checklist-files both exists: to copy the file to the expected folder I used the FileUtils: try { FileUtils.copyFile(selectedFile, dir); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } The problem is: I get no exception and the file isn't there. I tried this solution either: How to move/rename file from internal app storage to external storage on Android? same thing, no exception, but no file either.
