• CMS template creation and jQuery integration

  Hi, First off I should say that I don't have any experience in working with a CMS. I have 2 general questions about CMS: How easy is it to create a template? I have strong CSS/XHTML skills, is creating a template as easy as writing the markup or does it have to be done in a very rigid way? How is jQuery support in CMS systems? I like what you can do with jQuery and would like to incorporate it into the next couple of sites that I will do. EDIT: So far answers are asking which CMS, I don't have any in mind. Any suggestions welcome, open source and non .NET preferable.

• Conditional XAML

  For easy of development I'm using a ViewBox to wrap all content inside a Window. This is because my development machine has a smaller screen than the deployment machine so using a ViewBox allows for better realisation of proportion. Obviously there is no reason for it to be there on Release versions of the code. Is there an easy method to conditionally include/exclude that 'wrapping' ViewBox in XAML? E.g. <Window> <Viewbox> <UserControl /*Content*/> </Viewbox> </Window>

• How to figure out optimal C / Gamma parameters in libsvm?

  I'm using libsvm for multi-class classification of datasets with a large number of features/attributes (around 5,800 per each item). I'd like to choose better parameters for C and Gamma than the defaults I am currently using. I've already tried running easy.py, but for the datasets I'm using, the estimated time is near forever (ran easy.py at 20, 50, 100, and 200 data samples and got a super-linear regression which projected my necessary runtime to take years). Is there a way to more quickly arrive at better C and Gamma values than the defaults? I'm using the Java libraries, if that makes any difference.

• IPC speed and compare

  I am trying to implement a real-time application which involves IPC across different modules. The modules are doing some data intensive processing. I am using message queue as the backbone(Activemq) for IPC in the prototype, which is easy(considering I am a totally IPC newbie), but it's very very slow. Here is my situation: I have isolated the IPC part so that I could change it other ways in future. I have 3 weeks to implement another faster version. ;-( IPC should be fast, but also comparatively easy to pick up I have been looking into different IPC approaches: socket, pipe, shared memory. However, I have no experience in IPC, and there is definitely no way I could fail this demo in 3 weeks... Which IPC will be the safe way to start with? Thanks. Lily

• MS Word: Mailmerge hyperlinks with query get url string with a mergefield.

  Hi, I'm trying to send an email merging one document (docx) with a contacts database (via OleDB). Using MSWord2007, it seems easy (it works for easy things: name, address, ...) but I can't find how fill an query-get url string with a merge field inside an hyperlink. An hyperlink like: Click here where here is an hyperlink to http://domain.com/[email protected] where [email protected] is the address of the contact, a merge field. I've tried the special/merge fields: {HYPERLINK "http://domain.com/test.php?contact={MERGEFIELD contactEmail}" \o "Here"} but it doesn't work, sometimes it merge only the first record and then send all the mails with the same address, I got this alternating the view with ALT+F9. This support doc doesn't work for me because I don't have the complete URL in my database for each contact, and I can't change the design of the table or add a view (it's from the CRM), I don't like to do it exporting the table and adding the field. • Drupal setup for proofreaders - "Revision Moderation"

  I would like to have external proofreaders to work directly inside my Drupal site. Basically they should be able to create new revisions, annotate, comment etc without affecting what users see without my approval. Particularly the node might already be public. "Revision Moderation" module sounds a bit like what I want, but it seems not to be so much used, and I run into other modules like "Workflow". • I want to use 960 or Blueprint, but I also want to use lots of Padding and Borders, is it a good fit

  I started using 960 today and thought it would be really easy. However, trying to translate a site to 960 quickly proved tough for many reasons. The first is that I can't use any padding or borders. Unless of course I add many more divs. Same thing with borders. Question is, if I want to use lots of padding and borders (where padding and borders are either 5px "thin" or 10px "thick" styles), are 960 and blueprint overkill? It seems pretty easy to create a custom grid, but once I add padding and borders, 99% of the work is making sure the grid doesn't break. I still am going to end up lining everything up to a 960 grid with 12 columns, but I want to have padding and borders included in the width, and it seems that's not easily possible with 960 or blueprint. What are your thoughts?

But it seems to me that samples in articles and videos are very easy. I think that it's easy to learn how to apply these patterns when you can look on some projects. So I'd like to look on real projects(Winforms/WPF), which use MVC, MVP or MVVM. Could you provide me links to sources of such projects? (If it is open source) It will be great if projects will have unit tests for Controller/Presenter/ViewModel, because it's one of my problem when I develop applications. Thanks in advance.

• How to find all the file handles by a process programmatically?

  I have a process "x" which uses "system" C function to start ntpd daemon. I observed that ntpd are passed the open file descriptors of "x". ntpd holds on to the file descriptors even after original file is deleted. for ex: Some log files used by "x" are rotated out after sometime, but "ntpd" has file handle opened for these deleted files. Will it cause any problem? Alternatively I thought of setting "FD_CLOEXEC" flag for all the file descriptors before calling "system" function. But as we are running as an extension library to third process "x"( "x" loads our library based on some condition), there is no easy way to know about all the file descriptors process has opened. One way is to read /proc//fd and set "FD_CLOEXEC" for each file handle and reset it back after "system" function returns. I'm using Linux 2.16. Is there any other easy way to find all the file handlers? Thanks,

• Why does Google mark one e-mail as spam while does not the other?

  I've a Postfix installation which works fine, I don't get any trouble with mails sent through a mail client (in my case, Thunderbird or RoundCube) when the To: address is a GMail account. However, I recently needed to use the PHPMailer tool to send some e-mails to some GMail accounts, so I configured an account to be used via SASL authentication + TLS. I don't mean mass mailing, just 2-3 mails. If I send the e-mail from the Thunderbird or RoundCube clients, the mail is not marked as spam. However, if I use PHPMailer, it always gets catalogued as spam. So I compared both headers and I just can't find the reason why the second is marked as spam while the first one is just ok.   I am working on an online portal, where researchers can upload their research papers. One requirement is, that all PDFs are stored in PDF/A-format. As I can't rely on the users to generate PDF/A conforming documents, I need a tool to check and convert standard PDFs into PDF/A format. What is the best tool you know of? Price Quality Speed Available APIs Open-source tools would be prefered, but a search revealed none. iText can create PDF/a, but converting isn't easy to do, as you have to read every page and copy it to a new document, losing all bookmarks and annotations in this process. (At least as far as I know, if you know of an easy solution, let me know). APIs should be available for either PHP, Java or a command-line-tool should be provided. Please do not list either GUI-only or Online-only solutions.

  I made a website that does absolutely nothing, and I've proven to myself that people like to stay there - I've already logged 11+ hours worth of cumulative time on the page. My question is whether it would be possible (or practical) to use the website as a distributed computing site. My first impulse was to find out if there were any JavaScript distributed computing projects already active, so that I could put a piece of code on the page and be done. Unfortunately, all I could find was a big list of websites that thought it might be a cool idea. I'm thinking that I might want to start with something like integer factorization - in this case, RSA numbers. It would be easy for the server to check if an answer was correct (simply test for modulus equals zero), and also easy to implement. Is my idea feasible? Is there already a project out there that I can use?

  Suppose I want to distribute a Java application. Suppose I want to distribute it as a single executable. I could easily build a .jar with both the application and all its external dependencies in a single file (with some Ant hacking). Now suppose I want to distribute it as an .exe file on Windows. That's easy enough, given the nice tools out there (such as Launch4j and the likes). But suppose now that I also don't want to depend on the end user having the right JRE (or any JRE at all for that matter) installed. I want to distribute a JRE with my app, and my app should run on this JRE. It's easy enough to create a Windows installer executable, and embed a folder with all necessary JRE files in it. But then I'm distributing an installer and not a single-file app. Is there a way to embed both the application, and a JRE, into an .exe file acting as the application launcher (and not as an installer)?

  It there an easy way to pass all the variables a template file has access to onto a partial when I have output escaping on? I tend to create a template file, then refactor things into a partial at some point and it would seem that there would be an easy way to just pass all the same variables from the template to the partial and be done with it. I have output escaping on and I can't just pass in $sf_data. It look like calling a partial from within another partial is very simple...just pass in the variable $vars.

• Saving highscores coupled to a facebook account

  I want to offer a "highscore" list for friends in my app (at this point iPhone/iPad), so that if the user connected to facebook, he will get a list with his/her friends scores. Connecting is easy, retrieving friends is easy, but figuring out the best way to store the scores is not. As it seems I need to the store the scores on my own server server, no big deal. But what is considered a reasonable safe way to transfer the data? When communicating with facebook, authentication is clear - but communicating with my server basically anyone could post scores for another user if I send user id and score. Obfuscation might help a bit, but is there any better way to make sure that the data comes from the fb-logged-in person? Scores can also go down, so changing scores for other persons won't necessary help them. Thanks :)

  Hello, I am trying to understand how to create my own directory tree and access it from my application. I am doing some kind of learning program and want to create a directory structure like this: -MyLessonsDirectory --LessonDirectory_1 ---Step_1 ---Step_2 ---Step_3 --LessonDirectory_2 ---Step_1 ---Step_2 ---Step_3 . . and so on In each "Step"-directory I will have specific content for that step of the lesson. The content is added by me while developing. Hence, I don't want to create the structure and content from within the application, just access it and reading the content of the directories. If I can create this kind of structure and use it it will be very easy to create a nice design that makes it easy to create new lessons in my app. What I cannot figure out is where I should create those directories in the file-structure in xCode and what is the path to those directories from my application.   I'm using Facebook Connect's "Comments Box" (http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Comments_Box) to handle comments on my blog. However, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to find out when people comment - ideally I'd like to receive an email whenever it happens, but I'd settle for an RSS feed or similar. Is there an easy way to set this up? Officially as an admin you can enable "notifications" but these are just the passive things that show up when you log on to Facebook itself - I rarely do this, and anyway it doesn't seem to work for anonymous comments.

• Ruby vs Lua as scripting language for C++

  I am currently building a game server (not an engine), and I want it to be extendable, like a plugin system. The solution I found is to use a scripting language. So far, so good. I'm not sure if I should use Ruby or Lua. Lua is easier to embed, but Ruby has a larger library, and better syntax (in my opinion). The problem is, there is no easy way I found to use Ruby as scripting language with C++, whereas it's very easy with Lua. Toughs about this? Suggestions for using Ruby as scripting language (I tried SWIG, but it isn't nearly as neat as using Lua)? Thanks.
