  • Anyone tried boosting Windows performance by putting Swap File on a Flash drive?

    Windows Vista introduced ReadyBoost which lets you use a Flash drive as a third (after RAM and HD) type of memory. It occurred to me that I could boost peformance on an old PC here w/ Win XP (32 bit, max'd at 4GB RAM) by putting it's swap file (page file) on a flash drive. (Now, before anyone comments: apparently Flash drives (10-30MB/s transfer rates) are slower than HDD (100+ MB/s) (I'm asking that as a separate question on this forum).

  • Using FFMPEG to reliably convert videos to mp4 for iphone/ipod and flash players

    I need to convert videos for use in both a flash player and the iphone/ipod touch. I'm using the following batch script with ffmpeg: @echo off ffmpeg.exe -i %1 -s qvga -acodec libfaac -ar 22050 -ab 128k -vcodec libx264 -threads 0 -f ipod %2 This always outputs an mp4 file, and I can always play it on my PC. The videos also seem to play fine on my iphone 3GS. But with some input files it won't work for older iphone versions (3G and iPod touch).     I've installed Ubuntu 11 64-bit to a 2 TB drive. it is on /dev/sda - port 1 of SATA Host Adaptor. This contains /dev/sda1 (1 MB boot), /dev/sda2 (2TB EXT4), /dev/sda3 8.6GB SWAP. I also have: /dev/sdb 2TB RAID COMPONENT /dev/sdc 2TB RAID COMPONENT which also show as /dev/dm-0 not partitioned /dev/dm-2 not partitioned which is mounted as /media/RAID_HOME I'm completely stumped as to how to use this version of Ubuntu to make these drives seem as just one raid mirrored drive and then how to transfer /home onto it.

Before installing 12.04 i had tried the Ubuntu 10.10 Version Live and it was perfect in showing my Local Disks. But it couldn't recognize my GTX 470 Graphics driver so i thought of trying the recent version i.e 12.04. Fortunately it solved the Graphics driver thing but now i am stuck with finding My Local Disks on 12.04. I am sorry if this is a silly question, but i know nothing of Ubuntu at the moment. Regards,

  • How to impose control access on flash player streaming through RTMP?

    Hi, I'm using ICECAST and I'm streaming AAC/HE-AACv2 audio/video file through flash player and on iPhone. Both are separate. But when I submit url in WINAMP to stream it's requesting username/password. But when I use it with flash player, it just starts streaming. My case is I want to use same streaming (RTMP) for both website and iPhone app and i want to impose control access over my flash player to authenticate who can see streamed video. So, I need to allow access to authenticated users only to see flash player or just reject playing. Now, my provider is not supporting control access on flash player, but i need to do it... can u say how i can do this? Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    I'm scanning a text document for certain installed programs on a computer and looking for an easy way to include a greater or less than variable in the string I'm scanning for. Here is a very ugly and cumbersome example of what I'm using currently and while it works as a temporary fix, isn't practical or sustainable. Essentially I need to scan for "Adobe Flash Player (Any number less than 11) Plugin" , "Adobe Flash Player (Any number less than 11) ActiveX" , "Java (number less than 9) Update (any number)". I'm sure whatever solution is offered can likely be adapted to similar programs I'm likely to encounter later. Now, inside I've got something that throws an error so I set a message to the flash scope before redirecting: ... if (some_condition) { flash.message = "my error message" return error() } ... Now, I know that when I'm going to display this in the GSP page, I access the flash message as <g:if test="${message}">... instead of the usual <g:if test="${flash.message}">... So anyway, I'm writing my test and I'm wondering how to test the content of the message? Usually, in normal actions in the controllers, I follow what's written in here . However, since this is a webflow, I can't seem to find the message even if I check controller.flash.message / controller.params.message / controller.message . I've also tried looking at the flow scope... Any ideas on how to see the message then? Thanks a bunch!

[text portion] [v] I have used it to display string search operators for the user: equals, starts with, ends with, contains. In Flash, when the icon is clicked, the text-area drops down a list of choices; it would look like this: [ ] [v] equals starts with ends with contains And when the user makes a choice from the list, the choice is displayed in the text area of the button and the list rolls up. [ starts with ] [v] I'm trying to convert my Flash app and am hoping to come up with a counterpart to this functionality. For space considerations on the form, a radio-button-group would be less than ideal. That's the major virtue of this Flash button -- it's very economical in its use of screen real-estate.   • If a raid controller changes, are the drives still usable without re-formatting?

    I've been wanting to do a raid 1 setup in my home with a pair of sata drives. Someone told me that if the controller fails, you can't just get a new controller because you'll have to reformat the drives. Or is that true only in some implementations? I was originally just looking at an onboard raid controller, or an entry level nas drvice like the intel SS4200-E, but If the hardware (controller) ever fails, will I be out of luck accessing the data if I can't get the exact same hardware to replace it?

    I am thinking of purchasing the Dell I580-5108NBC, but I want to add 2 1TB SATA drives in a RAID5 config. The system only has a 300W power supply, and already has a 1TB drive and a DVD burner. Is the 300W power supply sufficient to support two additional drives, or should I upgrade it? Or, can I simply unplug the DVD burner?

I think in something like a: dir -a -h *.* /s > file.txt but this is for the specific drive where I'm. How can I do something like that but with C:, D:, etc, but I don't know the DOS's name of the drivers, and i need a .bat to do this (an automatic listing). Implementer can't also know the names of drivers.

    We have a Small Business Server 2003 domain controller with Windows 7 workstations joined to the domain. I noticed recently that, if I make a user a local administrator on his computer, his redirected desktop and mapped network drives do not connect at login (error on login that network drives inaccessible and desktop is blank). However, it is still possible for this user to browse to his home directory where his redirected folders are located- so he still has access to that location. Does anyone have any theories as to what is going on here?

Trying to fix a boot problem, I took the drives out to run chkdsk on them, and I accidentally got them out-of-sync (event logs, etc). I have taken an image from a web cam (with no subject) passed it in to bitmap data, then a second image is taken (this time with a subject) to compare this data, from these two images I would like to create a mask from the pixels that match on both bitmaps.   • how to embed pure as3 bitmap assets with flex4 (worked with flex3)

    In Flex3, I could compile pure as3 code and use "embed" tags to load in images. This was done by Flex making a BitmapAsset class. I can still do this in Flex4. However, there was a trick to fakeout flex3 and use my own mx.core.BitmapAsset class to remove some of the extraneous stuff Flex's BitmapAsset brings in with it. This is described here: http://www.ultrashock.com/forums/flex/embed-flex-assets-without-using-flex-123405.html Unfortunately, I cannot get these tricks to work with Flex4 and get smaller file sizes. I end up with the error "VerifyError: Error #1014: Class mx.core::BitmapAsset could not be found." This error leads me to this forum, and a solution as described there: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/message/148762 Following this advice, I add -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries=true, and my swf loads without an error... but this means I am loading in the pieces of the flex framework I wanted to omit (and the file size says so too). Is there a better way to fake out flex4 when it comes to using Embed?

    Hi, I've created a linechart in flex using pure as3. I need now to convert it to a dynamic multi axis chart. What I mean by dynamic, is that I can programmatically add or remove axisrenderers from the verticalaxisrenderer array at runtime. It seems i can remove axisrenderers at runtime by simply doing this: verticalAxisRenderers = verticalAxisRenderers.splice(index,1); However, ADDING axisrenderers is not working. I am doing it by so: verticalAxisRenderers.push(ar2); verticalAxisRenderers = verticalAxisRenderers; Where am I going wrong? Please help! Thanks, Tone
