  • How do I reliably get the size of my iPhone view taking rotations into consideration?

    - by Sebastian Celis
My application uses a UITabBarController, multiple UINavigationControllers, and supports autorotation. In order to properly layout the subviews within each UIViewController's main view, I really need to know the size available to the UIViewContoller. I need this size to take the UINavigationBar, the UITabBar, and the status bar all into account, and thus only return the size available to the content view. I thought for sure I could use the following from within the UIViewController's code: CGRect viewControllerBounds = [[self view] bounds]; However, there are a couple of issues with this approach: The first time the view is loaded, viewControllerBounds reports the view as being 320 pixels wide by 460 pixels tall. This is wrong. With a status bar and a navigation bar showing, the height should only be 416 pixels. However, if I rotate the simulator to landscape and then rotate back, the height of viewControllerBounds changes to 416. If I rotate the first view in the navigation controller to landscape mode and then push another view controller onto the stack, viewControllerBounds for the new view reports a width of 300 pixels and a height of 480 pixels. So the view's bounds didn't even take the rotation into account. Is there a better way to do this? I really don't want to have to start hardcoding the widths and heights of all the various UI elements the iPhone OS provides. I have tried setting the autoresizing mask of the UIViewController's view, but that doesn't seem to change anything. The views definitely seem to be displaying properly. When I set a background color that view looks like it takes up all of the space available to it. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • Stop Images from loading in UIWebView

    - by Zac Altman
I have a website that I wish to load in a UIWebView, but it is full of images and takes ages to load. The images are useless, and only serve to reduce the usability on the iPhone. I dont own the website so I cannot change the site's actual code. The webpage is heavily linked in to the web with ASP.NET and AJAX (needs external files), so i dont think it is possible to have it load an HTML string. I want to stop the images from loading altogether. So how do i block them? Change the HTML code as its loading somehow, or block images from being loaded?

  • How do you compile a resource into the binary?

    - by Wonderflonium
How do you compile a resource into the binary in XCode? That way is doesn't show up inside the application bundle as a file and it's not subject to manipulation by a user (whether good-intentioned or bad). Is this even possible? I'm particularly interested about this in terms of iPhone apps. Any help is appreciated!

  • current location too slow for view

    - by Christian
    Hi, I make an App with a Map in the App and a button to change to the google.Map-App. The code for my position is: -(void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation { float avgAccuracy = (newLocation.verticalAccuracy + newLocation.horizontalAccuracy)/2.0; if (avgAccuracy < 500) { [locationManager stopUpdatingLocation]; locationManager.delegate = nil; } storedLocation = [newLocation coordinate]; The code for the view is: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed: @"LogoNavBar.png"]; UIImageView *imageview = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage: image]; UIBarButtonItem *button = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView: imageview]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = button; [imageview release]; [button release]; locationManager=[[CLLocationManager alloc] init]; locationManager.delegate = self; locationManager.desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyBest; locationManager.distanceFilter = kCLDistanceFilterNone; [locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; mapView.showsUserLocation = YES; NSLog(@"storedLocation-latitude für MKregion: %f", storedLocation.latitude); MKCoordinateRegion region; region.center.latitude = (storedLocation.latitude + 45.58058)/2.0; region.center.longitude = (storedLocation.longitude - 0.546835)/2.0; region.span.latitudeDelta = ABS(storedLocation.latitude - 45.58058); region.span.longitudeDelta = ABS(storedLocation.longitude + 0.546835); [mapView setRegion:region animated:TRUE]; MKCoordinateRegion hotel; hotel.center.latitude = 45.58058; hotel.center.longitude = -0.546835; HotelPositionMarker* marker = [[HotelPositionMarker alloc] initWithCoordinate:hotel.center]; [mapView addAnnotation:marker]; [marker release]; } My problem: when the "viewDidLoad" start, the "storedLocation" is still 0.0000 it takes a bit longer to get the own position than to start the view. The Log for the "storedLocation" in the "viewDidLoad"-section is 0 while the Log of the "storedLocation" in the "-(IBAction)" when the map is visible contains the right values. How can I manage it to have my coordinates before the view load? I need them to center the view concerning the own position and the position given by me. MKCoordinateRegion region; region.center.latitude = (storedLocation.latitude + 45.58058)/2.0; region.center.longitude = (storedLocation.longitude - 0.546835)/2.0; region.span.latitudeDelta = ABS(storedLocation.latitude - 45.58058); region.span.longitudeDelta = ABS(storedLocation.longitude + 0.546835); [mapView setRegion:region animated:TRUE];

  • UISlider how to set the initial value

    - by slim
I'm pretty new at this iphone dev stuff and i'm working on some existing code at a company. The uislider i'm trying to set the initial value on is actually in a UITableViewCell and is a custom control. I was thinking in the cell init cell = (QuantitiesCell *)[self loadCellWithNibName:@"QuantitiesCell" forTableView:ltableView withStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault]; i could just call something like ((QuantitiesCell *)cell).value = 5; The actual QuantitiesCell class has the member value and the following functions -(void)initCell;{ if (listOfValues == nil) { [self initListOfValues]; } quantitiesSLider.maximumValue = [listOfValues count]-1; quantitiesSLider.minimumValue = 0; quantitiesSLider.value = self.value; } -(void)initListOfValues;{ listOfValues = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:10]; int j =0; for (float i = minValue; i <= maxValue+increment; i=i+increment) { [listOfValues addObject:[NSNumber numberWithFloat: i]]; if (i == value) { quantitiesSLider.value = j; } j++; } } like i said, i'm pretty new at this so if i need to post more of the code to show whats going to get help, let me know, This slider always is defaulting to 1, the slider ranges usually from 1-10, and i want to set it to a specific value of the item i'm trying to edit.

  • Posting a jaiku using xcode

    - by frameworkguy
NSMutableURLRequest *jaikuRequest=[NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://api.jaiku.com/json"] cachePolicy:NSURLRequestUseProtocolCachePolicy timeoutInterval:60.0]; [jaikuRequest setHTTPMethod:@"POST"]; NSString *jbody= [NSString stringWithFormat:@"method=presence.send&user=XXusernameXX&personal_key=XXpersonalkeyXX&message=%@", encodedMsg]; [jaikuRequest setHTTPBody:[[NSString stringWithFormat:jbody] dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]]; I wrote the above code snippet to be able to post a jaiku on jaiku.com. I've come across similar samples in other languages for posting a jaiku. However i get the following response in the console: {"status": "error", "message": "Invalid API user", "code": 0} what could be the error or if im wrong, what is the correct approach to posting a jaiku using xcode?

  • How can I use images provided by the iPhone OS?

    - by Topher Fangio
Hello all, First, let me state what brought this question about: I saw the green checkmark icon in this post and I would like to use it in my own application. However, since it looks so much like the UITableViewCellAccessoryDetailDisclosureButton my assumption is that this green checkmark icon is provided by the iPhone OS in some form or fashion. So, my question is: how can I use the green checkmark icon and/or other OS-provided images in my own applications? As a side question: where can I find a list of the OS-provided images (if they even exist)? Thanks very much for any input :-)

  • Load XML file on seperate thread, overwrite old , and save.

    - by Luis Tovar
Hey everyone... so Im trying to figure out how to do this. I have bounced around alot of forums to try and find my answer, but no success. Either their process it too complicated for me to understand, or is just overkill. What I am trying to do is this. I have an XML file within my app. Its a 500k xml file that i dont want the user to have to wait on when loading. SO... I put it in my app which kills the load time, and makes the app available offline. What i want to do is, when the app loads, in the background (seperate thread) download the SAME xml file which MIGHT be updated with new data. Once the xml file is complete, i want to REPLACE the xml file that was used to load the file. Any suggestions or code hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • How to set up single array or dictionary for use in multiple datasources?

    - by Roman
I have multiple TableViewDatasources that need to display list of objects form same pool depending of certain property. E.g. object.flag1 is set- it will show up in TableView1 object.flag2 is set- it will show up in TableView2 The obvious way would be to have separate arrays for each TableView, But same object may appear in different arrays. Also I need to update objects very often or access all objects through same array. How do I setup a single dictionary or array to have all objects in one structure? To put it in another way: When table view or selection changes, application need to redraw TableViews with the new data. Application have to access the pool of objects and search through them using iterator and accessing each object and its properties. I think that this is an expensive operation and want to avoid that. Perhaps maybe by making a global pool of objects a dictionary and exposing objects properties as dictionary fields. So instead of iterating global pool of objects I could access global pool Dicitonary in a manner of database by selecting objects that has fields that match particular criteria. Anyone know any example of doing that?

  • Why would JmDNS service discovery work on a Motorola Droid running Android 2.1-update1 and not on an

    - by Churlbong
I have successfully gotten JmDNS working on Android 2.1 testing on a Motorola Droid by using MulticastLock, but recently got an HTC Incredible as second test device, and JmDNS discovery doesn't work at all. I should mention that broadcasting a service still works and everything appears to run normally, but serviceAdded() never gets called. Does anyone have thoughts on why this might be? I was thinking it might be a permission issue, but I don't get any exceptions...

  • After adding a UILabel to my view, how do I delete it?

    - by Travis
I have added a UILabel to my view programmatically like this: myLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 100.0f, 30.0f)]; myLabel.center = CGPointMake(160.0f, 120.0f); myLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; myLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; myLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size: 18.0]; myLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; myLabel.text = @"Hello"; [self.myView addSubview:myLabel]; To add a label to my view. What I can't seem to find out is once I'm done w/ the label (at a future point) how can I delete it from the view? [myLabel release] doesn't seem to work which I think makes sense because the view it's added to probably retained it's over reference. So what is the best practice?

  • How to smooth the edge of a zig-zag line?

    - by Horace Ho
Currently I draw a zig-zap line by CGContextMoveToPoint, CGContextAddLineToPoint, and CGContextStrokePath, following touchesMoved events. How can I smooth the edges of the line? Such that when the user draw a circle-like shape, the circle can be more round'ed. The GLPaint example use OpenGL, is that the only way to do it?

  • Anyone knows of a good addressbook implementation?

    - by Tsahi Levent-Levi
I am looking to add an address book to one of my programs. For that purpose, I want to have something that is flexible and customizable to the point of allowing me to hook up additional metadata to contacts in it from third parties. I don't mind paying for a solution as long as I get something that is usable for me. My requirements: Optimized to run on embedded devices Preferably in source code form Ability to add my own fields to contacts over those the address book provides out of the box Ability to plugin "stuff" to it to enhance it without changing its base code too much Has a C or C++ interface

When I take pictures using android.hardware.camera and I save them to the following location /sdcard/dcim/camera/ they don't appear when I launch the gallery. Is there a process for getting them to show up in the gallery that I missed? I can see my images using a file explorer and know they have been saved.
