  • TCP/IP RST being sent differently in different browsers.

    - by Brian
    On Mac OS X (10.6), if I start a YouTube video download and pull the Ethernet cable for 5 or so seconds, then plug it back in, I get varying results depending on the browser. With Opera and Chrome, after I plug the cable back in the video continues to load. But with Safari and Firefox, it never does. Using Wireshark to look at the traffic, I found that Opera and Chrome simply ACK the first packet from YouTube after the cable has been plugged back in, but Safari and Firefox set the RST flag (0x4) in the TCP header and no more traffic follows. I can put a HUB in between the machine and the internet connection, the problem goes away and all four browsers continue loading the video when the cable is plugged back into the HUB. Again, looking at the Wireshark logs, it's evident that the machine doesn't see the Mulitcast connection close and there is simply a delay in the packets flowing through. So it seems that if Safari and Firefox sees a Multicast connection close, and then later see data on that same connection, they will send a RST. My question is why? What is the correct course of action, and why are 2/4 browsers doing it one way, while the other 2/4 are doing it another way? Is there somewhere in the code that I can see where this is happening in Firefox, for instance? Thank you very much.

  • Deleting list items via ProcessBatchData()

    - by q-tuyen
    You can build a batch string to delete all of the items from a SharePoint list like this: 1: //create new StringBuilder 2: StringBuilder batchString= new StringBuilder(); 3: 4: //add the main text to the stringbuilder 5: batchString.Append(""); 6: 7: //add each item to the batch string and give it a command Delete 8: foreach (SPListItem item in itemCollection) 9: { 10: //create a new method section 11: batchString.Append(""); 12: //insert the listid to know where to delete from 13: batchString.Append("" + Convert.ToString(item.ParentList.ID) + ""); 14: //the item to delete 15: batchString.Append("" + Convert.ToString(item.ID) + ""); 16: //set the action you would like to preform 17: batchString.Append("Delete"); 18: //close the method section 19: batchString.Append(""); 20: } 21: 22: //close the batch section 23: batchString.Append(""); 24: 25: //preform the batch 26: SPContext.Current.Web.ProcessBatchData(batchString.ToString()); The only disadvantage that I can think of right know is that all the items you delete will be put in the recycle bin. How can I prevent that? I also found the solution like below: // web is a the SPWeb object your lists belong to // Before starting your deletion web.Site.WebApplication.RecycleBinEnabled = false; // When your are finished re-enable it web.Site.WebApplication.RecycleBinEnabled = true; Ref [Here](http://www.entwicklungsgedanken.de/2008/04/02/how-to-speed-up-the-deletion-of-large-amounts-of-list-items-within-sharepoint/) But the disadvantage of that solution is that only future deletion will not be sent to the Recycle Bins but it will delete all existing items as well which user do not want. Any idea to prevent not to delete existing items? Many thanks in advance, TQT

  • download large files using servlet

    - by niks
    I am using Apache Tomcat Server 6 and Java 1.6 and am trying to write large mp3 files to the ServletOutputStream for a user to download. Files are ranging from a 50-750MB at the moment. The smaller files aren't causing too much of a problem but with the larger files it and getting socket exception broken pipe. File fileMp3 = new File(objDownloadSong.getStrSongFolder() + "/" + strSongIdName); FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(fileMp3); response.setContentType("audio/mpeg"); response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + strSongName + ".mp3\";"); response.setContentLength((int) fileMp3.length()); OutputStream os = response.getOutputStream(); try { int byteRead = 0; while ((byteRead = fis.read()) != -1) { os.write(byteRead); } os.flush(); } catch (Exception excp) { downloadComplete = "-1"; excp.printStackTrace(); } finally { os.close(); fis.close(); }

  • comparing value with array value problem Javascript

    This code is what I use now, it dos not work when I trie to use an array to compate values. If anybody has any idea of why, please respond. <html> <head> <script type-'text/javascript'> function hovedFunksjon() { //alert("test av funksjon fungerte"); //alert(passordLager); window.open("index10.html","Window1","menubar=no,width=430,height=360,toolbar=no"); } function inArray(array, value) { for (var i = 0; i < array.length; i++) { if (array[i] == value) return true; } return false; } function spørOmPassord() { var passordLager = ["pass0","pass1","pass2"]; window.passordInput = prompt("password");//Ved å bruke "window." skaper man en global variabel //if (passordInput == passordLager[0] || passordLager[1] || passordLager[2]) if (inArray(passordLager,passorInput) ) { hovedFunksjon(); } else { alert("Feil passord"); //href="javascript:self.close()">close window } } function changeBackgroundColor() { //document.bgColor="#CC9900"; //document.bgColor="YELLOW" document.bgColor="BLACK" } </script> </head> <body> <script type-'text/javascript'> changeBackgroundColor(); </script> <div align="center"> <form> <input type = "button" value = "Logg inn" onclick="spørOmPassord()"> </form> </div> </body> </html>

  • jquery focusin() and preventing bubbling.

    - by DA
    I'm showing a div via an onclick event. If you click outside the div, I want to hide it. To do so, I'm binding a one time click event on the body: $('body').one('click.myDivPopup', function(e) { ...close my div... }); Within the div itself, I tell it to not propogate events so that actually clicking within the div won't trigger a click on the body: $myDiv.click(function(e){e.stopPropagation()}); This works fine as intended. I also want to hide the div if one tabs out of the div. My thinking was that in that scenario, I could use a focusin event on the body: $('body').one('focusin.myDivPopup', function(e) { ...close my div... }); Again, I don't want the events to bubble out of the div itself, so added this: $myDiv.focusin(function(e){e.preventDefault()}); This does NOT work. Changing focus within elements within myDiv triggers the focusin event on the body. Is this maybe a bug in jQuery? If so is there a better way to accomplish this?

  • Working with PHP and MySQL - need a good and secure design with OO design

    - by Andrew
    I am new to PHP- first time developer. I am working on my web application and it is nearly done; nevertheless, most of my sql was done directly via code using direct mysql requests. This is the way I approached it: In classes_db.php I declared the db settings and created methods that I use to open and close DB connections. I declare those objects on my regular pages: class classes_db { public $dbserver = 'server; public $dbusername = 'user'; public $dbpassword = 'pass'; public $dbname = 'db'; function openDb() { $dbhandle = mysql_connect($this->dbserver, $this->dbusername, $this->dbpassword); if (!$dbhandle) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } $selected = mysql_select_db($this->dbname, $dbhandle) or die("Could not select the database"); return $dbhandle; } function closeDb($con) { mysql_close($con); } } On my regular page, I do this: <?php require 'classes_db.php'; session_start(); //create instance of the DB class $db = new classes_db(); //get dbhandle $dbhandle = $db->openDb(); //process query $result = mysql_query("update user set username = '" . $usernameFromForm . "' where iduser= " . $_SESSION['user']->iduser); //close the connection if (isset($dbhandle)) { $db->closeDb($dbhandle); } ?> My questions is: how to do it right and make it OO and secure? I know that I need incorporate prepared queries- how to do it the best way? Please provide some code

  • How to focus a control in an MDIParent when all child windows have closed?

    - by Tim Gradwell
    I have a control in my parent mdi form which I wish to be given the focus if all mdi children have closed. I've tried hooking into the child form's FormClosed event and setting the focus from there but when I test it, my control is not left with focus when I close the mdi child. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? In the sample below, "first focus" gets hit and does its job correctly (if I comment out the first focus line, my tree does not get focus on startup, so it must be doing its job, right?) Unfortunately, even though "second focus" gets hit, my tree does not end up with the focus when I close the child window. Sample using System; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace mdiFocus { class ParentForm : Form { public ParentForm() { IsMdiContainer = true; tree = new TreeView(); tree.Nodes.Add("SomeNode"); tree.Dock = DockStyle.Left; Controls.Add(tree); } protected override void OnShown(EventArgs e) { Form child = new Form(); child.MdiParent = this; child.Show(); child.FormClosed += new FormClosedEventHandler(child_FormClosed); tree.Focus(); // first focus works ok } void child_FormClosed(object sender, FormClosedEventArgs e) { tree.Focus(); // second focus doesn't seem to work, even though it is hit :( } TreeView tree; } static class Program { [STAThread] static void Main() { Application.Run(new ParentForm()); } } }

  • C++, Ifstream opens local file but not file on HTTP Server

    - by fammi
    Hi, I am using ifstream to open a file and then read from it. My program works fine when i give location of the local file on my system. for eg /root/Desktop/abc.xxx works fine But once the location is on the http server the file fails to open. for eg http://192.168.0.10/abc.xxx fails to open. Is there any alternate for ifstream when using a URL address? thanks. part of the code where having problem: bool readTillEof = (endIndex == -1) ? true : false; // Open the file in binary mode and seek to the end to determine file size ifstream file ( fileName.c_str ( ), ios::in|ios::ate|ios::binary ); if ( file.is_open ( ) ) { long size = (long) file.tellg ( ); long numBytesRead; if ( readTillEof ) { numBytesRead = size - startIndex; } else { numBytesRead = endIndex - startIndex + 1; } // Allocate a new buffer ptr to read in the file data BufferSptr buf (new Buffer ( numBytesRead ) ); mpStreamingClientEngine->SetResponseBuffer ( nextRequest, buf ); // Seek to the start index of the byte range // and read the data file.seekg ( startIndex, ios::beg ); file.read ( (char *)buf->GetData(), numBytesRead ); // Pass on the data to the SCE // and signal completion of request mpStreamingClientEngine->HandleDataReceived( nextRequest, numBytesRead); mpStreamingClientEngine->MarkRequestCompleted( nextRequest ); // Close the file file.close ( ); } else { // Report error to the Streaming Client Engine // as unable to open file AHS_ERROR ( ConnectionManager, " Error while opening file \"%s\"\n", fileName.c_str ( ) ); mpStreamingClientEngine->HandleRequestFailed( nextRequest, CONNECTION_FAILED ); } }

  • Client Server communication in Java - which approach to use?

    - by markovuksanovic
    I have a typical client server communication - Client sends data to the server, server processes that, and returns data to the client. The problem is that the process operation can take quite some time - order of magnitude - minutes. There are a few approaches that could be used to solve this. Establish a connection, and keep it alive, until the operation is finished and the client receives the response. Establish connection, send data, close the connection. Now the processing takes place and once it is finished the server could establish a connection to the client to send the data. Establish a connection, send data, close the connection. Processing takes place. client asks server, every n minutes/seconds if the operation is finished. If the processing is finished the client fetches the data. I was wondering which approach would be the best way to use. Is there maybe some "de facto" standard for solving this problem? How "expensive" is opening a socket in Java? Solution 1. seems pretty nasty to me, but 2. and 3. could do. The problem with solution 2. is that the server needs to know on which port the client is listening, while solution 3. adds some network overhead.

  • Recommended approach for error handling with PHP and MYSQL

    - by iama
    I am trying to capture database (MYSQL) errors in my PHP web application. Currently, I see that there are functions like mysqli_error(), mysqli_errno() for capturing the last occurred error. However, this still requires me to check for error occurrence using repeated if/else statements in my php code. You may check my code below to see what I mean. Is there a better approach to doing this? (or) Should I write my own code to raise exceptions and catch them in one single place? What is the recommended approach? Also, does PDO raise exceptions? Thanks. function db_userexists($name, $pwd, &$dbErr) { $bUserExists = false; $uid = 0; $dbErr = ''; $db = new mysqli(SERVER, USER, PASSWORD, DB); if (!mysqli_connect_errno()) { $query = "select uid from user where uname = ? and pwd = ?"; $stmt = $db->prepare($query); if ($stmt) { if ($stmt->bind_param("ss", $name, $pwd)) { if ($stmt->bind_result($uid)) { if ($stmt->execute()) { if ($stmt->fetch()) { if ($uid) $bUserExists = true; } } } } if (!$bUserExists) $dbErr = $db->error(); $stmt->close(); } if (!$bUserExists) $dbErr = $db->error(); $db->close(); } else { $dbErr = mysqli_connect_error(); } return $bUserExists; }

  • How can I read a continuously updating log file in Perl?

    - by Octopus
    I have a application generating logs in every 5 sec. The logs are in below format. 11:13:49.250,interface,0,RX,0 11:13:49.250,interface,0,TX,0 11:13:49.250,interface,1,close,0 11:13:49.250,interface,4,error,593 11:13:49.250,interface,4,idle,2994215 and so on for other interfaces... I am working to convert these into below CSV format: Time,interface.RX,interface.TX,interface.close.... 11:13:49,0,0,0,.... Simple as of now but the problem is, I have to get the data in CSV format online, i.e as soon the log file updated the CSV should also be updated. What I have tried to read the output and make the header is: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use strict; use File::Tail; my $head=["Time"]; my $pos={}; my $last_pos=0; my $current_event=[]; my $events=[]; my $file = shift; $file = File::Tail->new($file); while(defined($_=$file->read)) { next if $_ =~ some filters; my ($time,$interface,$count,$eve,$value) = split /[,\n]/, $_; my $key = $interface.".".$eve; if (not defined $pos->{$eve_key}) { $last_pos+=1; $pos->{$eve_key}=$last_pos; push @$head,$eve; } print join(",", @$head) . "\n"; } Is there any way to do this using Perl?

  • Is it possible to use a serial port like session in c#?

    - by Pandiya Chendur
    I am using serial port communication in my asp.net webform application... private bool sendSMS(int portNo, string mobNo, string details) { try { SerialPort SerialPort1 = new SerialPort(); SerialPort1.PortName = "COM" + portNo.ToString(); SerialPort1.BaudRate = 9600; SerialPort1.Parity = Parity.None; SerialPort1.DataBits = 8; SerialPort1.StopBits = StopBits.One; SerialPort1.RtsEnable = true; SerialPort1.DtrEnable = true; SerialPort1.Encoding.GetEncoder(); SerialPort1.ReceivedBytesThreshold = 1; SerialPort1.NewLine = Environment.NewLine; SerialPort1.Open(); SerialPort1.Write("AT" + SerialPort1.NewLine); Sleep(500); SerialPort1.Write("AT+CMGF=1" + SerialPort1.NewLine); Sleep(500); SerialPort1.Write("AT+CMGS=" + (char)34 + mobNo + (char)34 + SerialPort1.NewLine); Sleep(1000); SerialPort1.Write(details + (char)26); Sleep(2000); SerialPort1.Close(); } catch { } return true; } This method works when i send i single message... But when want to send sms in bulk opening and closing port everytime is not a good idea... So my question is it possible to use a serial port like session in c#?... When i open a port i want it to be open for 1 hour and then if my time expires i want to close the port and open it the next time... Any suggestion...

  • Image.Save(..) throws a GDI+ exception because the memory stream is closed.

    - by Pure.Krome
    Hi folks, i've got some binary data which i want to save as an image. When i try to save the image, it throws an exception if the memory stream used to create the image, was closed before the save. The reason i do this is because i'm dynamically creating images and as such .. i need to use a memory stream. this is the code: [TestMethod] public void TestMethod1() { // Grab the binary data. byte[] data = File.ReadAllBytes("Chick.jpg"); // Read in the data but do not close, before using the stream. Stream originalBinaryDataStream = new MemoryStream(data); Bitmap image = new Bitmap(originalBinaryDataStream); image.Save(@"c:\test.jpg"); originalBinaryDataStream.Dispose(); // Now lets use a nice dispose, etc... Bitmap2 image2; using (Stream originalBinaryDataStream2 = new MemoryStream(data)) { image2 = new Bitmap(originalBinaryDataStream2); } image2.Save(@"C:\temp\pewpew.jpg"); // This throws the GDI+ exception. } Does anyone have any suggestions to how i could save an image with the stream closed? I cannot rely on the developers to remember to close the stream after the image is saved. In fact, the developer would have NO IDEA that the image was generated using a memory stream (because it happens in some other code, elsewhere). I'm really confused :(

  • Optimize SQL connection?

    - by user1484035
    I am building a multi-page web project in HTML and Javascript that is constantly reading from AND writing to an SQL database. I can connect to the database and successfully run my project with this type of connection. var connection = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Connection") ; var connectionstring="Data Source=<server>;Initial Catalog=<catalog>;User ID=<user>; Password=<password>;Provider=SQLOLEDB"; connection.Open(connectionstring); var rs = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Recordset"); rs.Open("SELECT * FROM table", connection); rs.MoveFirst while(!rs.eof) { document.write(rs.fields(1)); rs.movenext; } rs.close; connection.close; Works great and runs fine. BUT, the first 5 lines (from var connection = to var rs =) causes the whole browser to freeze for a few seconds while it establishes the connection. I need to speed that up since I am constantly connecting to the database throughout my project. Is there a more effective way of connecting to a SQL database? or is my computer just bad and this should run faster?

  • Java File Handling, what did I do wrong?

    - by Urda
    Wrote up a basic file handler for a Java Homework assignment, and when I got the assignment back I had some notes about failing to catch a few instances: Buffer from file could have been null. File was not found File stream wasn't closed Here is the block of code that is used for opening a file: /** * Create a Filestream, Buffer, and a String to store the Buffer. */ FileInputStream fin = null; BufferedReader buffRead = null; String loadedString = null; /** Try to open the file from user input */ try { fin = new FileInputStream(programPath + fileToParse); buffRead = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fin)); loadedString = buffRead.readLine(); fin.close(); } /** Catch the error if we can't open the file */ catch(IOException e) { System.err.println("CRITICAL: Unable to open text file!"); System.err.println("Exiting!"); System.exit(-1); } The one comment I had from him was that fin.close(); needed to be in a finally block, which I did not have at all. But I thought that the way I have created the try/catch it would have prevented an issue with the file not opening. Let me be clear on a few things: This is not for a current assignment (not trying to get someone to do my own work), I have already created my project and have been graded on it. I did not fully understand my Professor's reasoning myself. Finally, I do not have a lot of Java experience, so I was a little confused why my catch wasn't good enough.

  • Reordering columns (fields) in a ADO Recordset

    - by Sukotto
    I have a classic asp webpage written in vbscript that outputs the results from a third-party stored procedure. My user wants the page to display the columns of data in a different order than they come in from the database. Is there an easy and safe way to re-order the columns in an ADO recordset? I did not write this page and cannot change the SP. What is the minimum change I can make here to get the job done and not risk screwing up all the other stuff in the page? The code looks something like dim Conn, strSQL, RS Set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Conn.Open ServerName Set strSQL = "EXEC storedProc @foo = " & Request("fooParam") 'This stored procedure returns a date column, an arbitrary ' ' number of data columns, and two summation columns. We ' ' want the two summation columns to move so they appear ' ' immediately after the data column ' Set RS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet") RS.ActiveConnection = Nothing RS.CursorLocation = adUseClient RS.CursorType = adOpenStatic RS.LockType = adLockBatchOptimistic RS.Open strSQL, Conn, adOpenDynamic, adLockOptimistic dim A ' ----- ' ' Insert some code here to move the columns of the RS around ' ' to suit the whim of my user ' ' ----- ' ' Several blocks of code that iterate over the RS and display it various ways ' RS.MoveFirst For A = 0 To RS.Fields.Count -1 ' do stuff ' Next ... RS.MoveFirst For A = 0 To RS.Fields.Count -1 ' do more stuff ' Next RS.Close : Set RS = Nothing Conn.Close : Set Conn = Nothing

  • How to view my Android app created database, via my android app?

    - by suufang
    I'm creating an application that collects users location (Cell broadcast location code) and saves that location with a name of users option, for example say my CB location code is 546034, now my app allows me to store that location code with a name of my choice say 'Home'. So, essentially my app has that following modules, To collect users CB location. To collect a custom name from user of that location. To store these values in a database. I've succeeded in doing all the above modules. I have a sub-module for my third module which has an option for user, of showing and deleting the database values, the screen shot looks as follows, Now, Users should be able to view and delete entries when he chooses the option 'View my database of locations' I've learned how to query my database values and I'm stuck with creating a list view and providing the delete option. My code for getting the database values and querying values goes as follows, submit.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View arg0) { String locname = name.getText().toString(); if(locname.length()==0) { Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "Please enter the location name, for example 'Home'.", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } else { SQLiteDatabase cd = openOrCreateDatabase("mydata", MODE_WORLD_READABLE, null); cd.execSQL("CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS MLITable (CblocationCode INT(10), CblocationName VARCHAR);"); cd.execSQL("INSERT INTO MLITable VALUES ('"+str+ "','"+locname+ "');"); cd.close(); Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "value successfully entered.", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } } }); viewdb.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View arg0) { // here comes the code for viewing the database and deleting SQLiteDatabase db = openOrCreateDatabase("mydata", MODE_WORLD_READABLE, null); Cursor c = db.rawQuery("SELECT * FROM MLITble", null); db.close(); } }); I can see that I've read the table values, but I'm not able to create a display for those values. Help required. Thank you.

  • Stop lazy-loading images?

    - by Greg
    Here's the issue – I followed along with the Apple lazy-load image sample code to handle my graphical tables. It works great. However, my lazy-load image tables are being stacked within a navigation controller so that you can move in and out of menus. While all this works, I'm getting a persistent crash when I move into a table then move immediately back out of it using the "back" button. This appears to be a result of the network connections loading content not being closed properly, or calling back to their released delegates. Now, I've tried working through this and carefully setting all delegates to nil and calling close on all open network connections before releasing a menu. However, I'm still getting the error. Also – short posting my entire application code into this post, I can't really post a specific code snippet that illustrates this situation. I wonder if anyone has ideas for tasks that I may be missing? Do I need to do anything to close a network connection other than closing it and setting it to nil? Also, I'm new to debugging tools – can anyone suggest a good tool to use to watch network connections and see what's causing them to fail? Thanks!

  • Please help me optimize my Python code

    - by Haidon
    Beginner here! Forgive me in advance for raising what is probably an incredibly simple problem. I've been trying to put together a Python script that runs multiple find-and-replace actions and a few similar things on a specified plain-text file. It works, but from a programming perspective I doubt it works well. How would I best go about optimizing the actions made upon the 'outtext' variable? At the moment it's basically doing a very similar thing four times over... import binascii import re import struct import sys infile = sys.argv[1] charenc = sys.argv[2] outFile=infile+'.tex' findreplace = [ ('TERM1', 'TERM2'), ('TERM3', 'TERM4'), ('TERM5', 'TERM6'), ] inF = open(infile,'rb') s=unicode(inF.read(),charenc) inF.close() # THIS IS VERY MESSY. for couple in findreplace: outtext=s.replace(couple[0],couple[1]) s=outtext for couple in findreplace: outtext=re.compile('Title: (.*)', re.I).sub(r'\\title'+ r'{\1}', s) s=outtext for couple in findreplace: outtext=re.compile('Author: (.*)', re.I).sub(r'\\author'+ r'{\1}', s) s=outtext for couple in findreplace: outtext=re.compile('Date: (.*)', re.I).sub(r'\\date'+ r'{\1}', s) s=outtext # END MESSY SECTION. outF = open(outFile,'wb') outF.write(outtext.encode('utf-8')) outF.close()

Currently reading the file is protected with ReaderWriterLockSlim as such: public int GetId() { _fileLock.EnterUpgradeableReadLock(); int id = 0; try { if(!File.Exists(_filePath)) CreateIdentityFile(); FileStream readStream = new FileStream(_filePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(readStream); string line = sr.ReadLine(); sr.Close(); readStream.Close(); id = int.Parse(line); return int.Parse(line); } finally { SaveNextId(id); // increment the id _fileLock.ExitUpgradeableReadLock(); } } The problem is that subsequent actions after GetId() might fail. As you can see the GetId() method increments the ID every single time, disregarding what happens after it has issued an ID. The issued ID might be left hanging (as said, exceptions might occur). As the ID is incremented, some IDs might be left unused. So I was thinking of moving the SaveNextId(id) out, remove it (the SaveNextId() actually uses the lock too, except that it's EnterWriteLock). And call it manually from outside after all the required methods have executed. That brings out another problem - multiple threads might enter the GetId() method before the SaveNextId() gets executed and they might all receive the same ID. I don't want any solutions where I have to alter the IDs after the operation, correcting them in any way because that's not nice and might lead to more problems. I need a solution where I can somehow callback into the FileIdentityManager (that's the class that handles these IDs) and let the manager know that it can perform the saving of the next ID and then release the read lock on the file containing the ID. Essentialy I want to replicate the relational databases autoincrement behaviour - if anything goes wrong during row insertion, the ID is not used, it is still available for use but it also never happens that the same ID is issued. Hopefully the question is understandable enough for you to provide some solutions..

  • How can I hide this overlay element intelligently?

    - by inkedmn
    The site I'm working on has a collection of navigation elements across the top ("Products", "Company", etc.). When you mouse over the Products link, an overlay appears that shows a list of products with links to each. There's a small link at the top of the container that, when clicked, closes the container. All of this works as advertised. The client has asked that, once a user's mouse pointer is a sufficient distance from the overlay element, the overlay element would close (without them having to click the 'close' link). This element appears on multiple pages that have disparate content, so I'm afraid it won't be as simple as adding a mouseover listener to another single element within the page and have it work everywhere. My question, I suppose, is this: is there a relatively easy way to know when the mouse cursor is x pixels away from this container and trigger an event when this occurs? My other thought is that I could just find several elements on the page that fit this criteria and add mouseover listeners to each, but I'm assuming there's a more elegant way of handling this. Thanks in advance - and please let me know if more detail is needed.
