• McAfee Virus Scan and Oracle RAC

  Hi, We're experiencing a strange problem with Oracle RAC and McAfee anti-virus. As part of the installation of the Oracle RAC we disable anti virus as directed. We have had our RAC running fine, but when we came to re-enable the AV and reboot we got the BSOD. Abnormal Program Termination (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000035 (0x8E984678, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS Following the standard process of raising this problem with Microsoft they identify the problem and also a fix. Microsoft talk about too many file filter drivers being present and pushing the DFS upper limit beyond the default size. Upping this value, as per msdn, has no impact. We're able to recover from this BSOD by disabling AV. We don't have the problem if we run the AV service manually whilst the system is up. However, if we make the service automatic we fail to boot. • CheckboxList to display aligned?

  Hello, I made a CheckboxList and it will not line up. I don't see any way to control the generated HTML. Right now, the check boxes do not align due to the widths of the <td> of each checkbox label being an automatic width. How can I set the width of this and make all the labels and checkboxes appear in two vertical aligned columns? • Calculating odds distribution with 6-sided dice

  I'm trying to calculate the odds distribution of a changing number of 6-sided die rolls. For example, 3d6 ranges from 3 to 18 as follows: 3:1, 4:3, 5:6, 6:10, 7:15, 8:21, 9:25, 10:27, 11:27, 12:25, 13:21, 14:15, 15:10, 16:6, 17:3, 18:1 I wrote this php program to calculate it: function distributionCalc($numberDice,$sides=6) { for ( $i=0; $i<pow($sides,$numberDice); $i++) { $sum=0; for ($j=0; $j<$numberDice; $j++) { $sum+=(1+(floor($i/pow($sides,$j))) % $sides); } $distribution[$sum]++; } return $distribution; } The inner $j for-loop uses the magic of the floor and modulus functions to create a base-6 counting sequence with the number of digits being the number of dice, so 3d6 would count as: 111,112,113,114,115,116,121,122,123,124,125,126,131,etc. The function takes the sum of each, so it would read as: 3,4,5,6,7,8,4,5,6,7,8,9,5,etc. It plows through all 3^6 possible results and adds 1 to the corresponding slot in the $distribution array between 3 and 18. Pretty straightforward. However, it only works until about 8d6, afterward i get server time-outs because it's now doing billions of calculations. But I don't think it's necessary because die probability follows a sweet bell-curve distribution. I'm wondering if there's a way to skip the number crunching and go straight to the curve itself. Is there a way to do this, so, for example, with 80d6 (80-480)? Can the distribution be projected without doing 6^80 calculations? I'm not a professional coder and probability is still new to me, so thanks for all the help! Stephen

  Is there a possibility to turn off the automatic enclosing of all written content within <p></p> in CKEditor 3.x? I tried CKEDITOR.config.enterMode = CKEDITOR.ENTER_BR; but this just changes the inline linebreaks to <br /> while leaving the enclosing paragraph. Currently writing "Test" produces this output <p> Test</p> but I want it to be simply Test Is there a configuration property for this or would another inline editor to be better suited for this?

• Modern way to handle and validate POST-data in MVC 2

  There are a lot of articles devoted to working with data in MVC, and nothing about MVC 2. So my question is: what is the proper way to handle POST-query and validate it. Assume we have 2 actions. Both of them operates over the same entity, but each action has its own separated set of object properties that should be bound in automatic manner. For example: Action "A" should bind only "Name" property of object, taken from POST-request Action "B" should bind only "Date" property of object, taken from POST-request As far as I understand - we cannot use Bind attribute in this case. So - what are the best practices in MVC2 to handle POST-data and probably validate it. UPD: After Actions performed - additional logic will be applied to the objects so they become valid and ready to store in persistent layer. For action "A" - it will be setting up Date to current date.

• object won't die (still references to it that I can't find)

  I'm using parallel-python and start a new job server in a function. after the functions ends it still exists even though I didn't return it out of the function (I used weakref to test this). I guess there's still some references to this object somewhere. My two theories: It starts threads and it logs to root logger. My questions: can I somehow findout in which namespace there is still a reference to this object. I have the weakref reference. Does anyone know how to detach a logger?   I have a svn server on our lan locally its on windows. The developers use and check in/out from that. Just to be on the safer side we have took up a server from rackspace a linux one. Is it possible to do an automatic weekly synchronise from the local svn server to the remote one. The remote one will be mainly used as a remote backup but just in case if somebody wants to access then they can do as there is no static or external IP for our lan.

Is there is technique to set a default value for that field, preferably a space (I am running into weird formatting issues with CSS). The html form way of value="" doesn't work, neither does setting a default value in the XML schema. • .net Value Class sorting with IComparable

  I'm running into an issue using a DataGridView bound to a iBindingListView implementation (third party dll) attached to a large collection. There's a certain property in my collection type, named MyDateTime, which is a value class similar to DateTime, but also with some legacy code. This VALUE CLASS implements iComparable, iComparable<T>, and iEquatable<T>. The issue I'm having is this: When I apply a sort to the iBindingListView, or the Automatic Sorting provided by the DGV on the MyDateTimeColumn, it ALWAYS uses the non-generic iComparer, causing hundreds of thousands of unnecessary boxing and unboxing. When I remove the non-generic iComparer, the generic one is still not used, it just does a string compare on the .ToString(). Am I missing something? Why is my generic comparer not bieng called on a sort?

  We are developing a rather large WPF based application and would like to include some automated UI testing in our test suite (which already contains a number of unit tests). The UI Automation Framework from Microsoft partly sounds like a perfect fit for programatically launching and interacting with the application in a test setup. However, I've struggled to find solid references for samples and experiences with the technology, the articles and small samples available on MSDN is not enough to convince me that it is a solid choice. So, does anybody have real world experiences using the UI Automation Framework in their test suite? What are the caveats and the gotchas? Any best practices when written tests scripts, can you "record and replay" to a scriptable format, how much should you facilitate the testing from the application, how did you incorporate it in the automatic build? I saw the automatic AASM by hashrocket, that transitions states using cron, and from the title it looks like it might fit the bill but there doesn't appear to be any documentation anywhere and it looks more like a skeleton app than a plugin.

However I am getting errors whenever hyphens are found telling me that there is an encoding error in the relevant attribute (title, description, product_type). Would anybody be able to shed some light on what's going on? or point me in the right direction to someone who has covered the new constructs such as b2PolygonDef changing to b2PolygonShape and likewise for circle + who knows what else, seems there has not been any doc updates since August '09. • Using MS Moles with datacontext and stored procedures without using a Connection string.

  I have just begun to work with MS Moles for testing and I have followed the idea/pattern in which jcollum(thanks) uses a Mole for a table in this stackoverflow question here. But I am having a problem as I do not want to have to pass a connection string when I use the datasource as such: using (TheDataContext dataContext = new TheDataContext(myConnectionString)) { dataContext.ExecuteStoredprocedure(value, ref ValueExists); } I really like the fact that I just need to mole the table and everything else is done for me. I realize I could just mole the ExecuteStoredProcedure method, but I am wondering if I could just somehow avoid the sql exception I am getting here when I do not pass in the connection string. Or, if I there is a better way to do this? Therefore, does anyone have a solution so that I can avoid placing in the connection string? Thanks in advance.

  I read the DIY Intellisense article on code project, which was referenced from the Mimic Intellisense? question here on SO. I wanna do something similar, DIY intellisense, but for XPath not C#. The design approach used there makes sense to me: maintain a tree of terms, and when the "completion character" is pressed, in the case of C#, a dot, pop up the list of possible completions in a textfield. Then allow the user to select a term from the textfield either through typing, arrow keys, or double-click. How would you apply this to XPath autocompletion? should there be an autocomplete key? In XPath there is no obvious separator key like "dot" in C#. should the popup be triggered explicitly in some other way, let's say ctrl-. ? or should the parser try to autocomplete continuously? If I do the autocomplete continuously, how to scale it properly? There are 93 xpath functions, not counting overloads. I certainly don't want to popup a list of 93 choices. How do I decide when I've narrowed it enough to offer a useful lsit of possible completions? How to populate the tree of possible completions? For C#, it's easy: walk the type space via reflection. At a first level, the "syntax tree" for C# seems like a single tree, and the list of completions at any point depends on the graph of nodes you've traversed to that point. Typing System.Console. traverses to a certain node in that tree, and the list of completions is the set of child nodes available at that node in the tree. On the other hand, the xpath syntax seems like it is a "flatter" tree - function names, axis names, literals. Does this make sense? what have I not considered?
