  Hi, pls, help. I've migrated to new SDK 1. (Full-IIS mode) I use the following logging: case TraceLevel.Error: Trace.TraceError(message); break; case TraceLevel.Warning: Trace.TraceWarning(message); break; case TraceLevel.Info: Trace.TraceInformation(message); break; case TraceLevel.Verbose: Trace.WriteLine(message); break; it worked fine until I migrated to the new SDK. now, logging works only for Worker Roles. Web-Role can log only inside OnStart-method of WebRole.cs in other cases: logged nothing I understand that Full-IIS means different domains. so, I must call someway WaIIS.exe from w3wp.exe or ...?

• what do i need to do now that I want to take programming hobby to next level ?

  i've always wanted to make games but did not start actively learning programming by myself until 1st year of university. i kept going throughout university learning new languages, showing off things i had made, while neglecting my major in Biology. Anyways, i've ended up with an Economics degree, with a portfolio of SaaS and web apps i had created so i could eat during my final year. So far, I'm getting a few interviews here and there in web programming positions. When I get a logic pretest, I fail miserably. or job requires comp sci degree. I mean I can easily design and code an entire app which I emphasize through my portfolio.... but i dont know why I am so slow at logic puzzles on prescreening interview... So what should I do now ? get certificates in languages ? go back to school and learn CS ? is it too late to get into windows programming jobs than web programming ?

• Proper permission and directoy location for Git Version Control

  I am using Git Version Control on an remote server and I have set up a repository that multiple people will be using to push/fetch from. I have put the repo under /srv/subdir/git/.git I have been experiencing problem after problem it seems like. a) Is this location suitable for handling a project that will need to be accessed/modified by multiple developers and a designer? Or is there a better location? b)Do I need to modify the permissions on the subdir/ and git/ directories in order to allow remote access? If I do what is the appropriate permissions I should allow? I know this is a faily long request/question, but unfortunately like many other topics with well covered documentation, documentation does not always cover best practices. I would appreciate anybodies advice and suggestions? Thanks

  I'm currently studying for a CS course's final exam and I've run into a minor (maybe major?) issue regarding the syntax of C++ #ifndef. I've looked at the syntax for #infndef when using it as an #include guard, and most on the web seem to say: #ifndef HEADER_H #include "header.h" ... #endif But my class's tutorial slides show examples as: #ifndef __HEADER_H__ #include "header.h" ... #endif I was wondering what (if any) the difference was between the two. The exam will most likely ask me to write an #include guard, and I know conventional wisdom is to just go with what the prof / tutor says, but if there's a difference during compilation I'd like to know. For instance, in the service layer code sample there is a method public IEnumerable<Contact> ListContacts() { return _repository.ListContacts(); } If instead you wanted a IEnumerable, should it go in the service layer, or is there somewhere else that is the "correct" place? Perhaps more appropriately, if you have a separate viewmodel for each view associated with ContactController, should ContactManagerService have a separate method to return each viewmodel?

  Hi, I'd like to know how you handle a situation like this in Git: create branch task001 from master master: modify foo.c and rename it to bar.c task001: modify foo.c and rename it to moo.c merge task001 to master What Git tells me is: CONFLICT (rename/rename): Rename "foo.c"->"bar.c" in branch "HEAD" rename "foo.cs"->"moo.c" in "task001" Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result. How should I solve it? I mean, I still want to merge the two files once the name conflict is resolved. Thanks.

  Hello, I have several UserControls that have some of the same controls doing the same job. Is it possible to extract those controls into a base class? When I have tried it, I get an error that the definition in the generated .g.cs file will hide the parent def. • Get license file from a folder in C# project

  I have a license file that I need to access at runtime in order to create pdf-files. After I have created the in memory pdf, I need to call a method on that pdf to set the license, like this: pdf.SetLicense("pathToLicenseFileHere"); The license file is located in the same project as the.cs-file that creates the pdf, but is in a separate folder. I cannot get this simple thing to behave correctly, which makes me a bit sad, since it really shouldn't be that hard. :( I try to set the path like this: string path = @"\Resources\File.lic"; But it just isn't working out for me.

• Differing form size between XP and 7

  I am developing a C# WinForms app on my XP dev machine with Visual C# Express 2008. I set the form to have a size of my liking with Width and Height on the designer and all looks good. I also set these dimensions to the MaximumSize property. Deploying the app to another XP machine, and the app looks like it does on my dev. However, in testing the app on a Win7 machine, the form has both horizontal and vertical scrollbars applied. I assume that this is due to the changed non-client size of the form, as determined by Win7. I can resize the window, but I would like it to be displayed correctly to begin with. So, my question is: What is the best way to correctly maintain a form size client area across OS'es? Thanks all.

I can get this to work, but it only pulls up the first name, code and hex and I'm just not seeing what I'm doing wrong.

  When I'm trying to change the default Image of a Control on Windows Forms in Form Designer (no matter where on which control) I get this error: Error message: An item with the same key has already been added I tried to delete and recreate the Resources.resx file.. I assured that only 1 resx file with these keys exist.. (in fact that's my only resource file) but it still does not work. I have som strings in it and some images. That's all. Any idea?

• debugging c# silverlight projects from vb web application

  Hi, I have a problem whereby I cannot debug a c# silverlight application project that is hosted from within a visual basic web application. I add breakpoints to the main App constructor and the symbols are loaded ok but my breakpoints are never hit. I have concluded that it is a vb/c# interop problem as to test i did the following. Created a new c# web application project Added a c# silverlight application Added a new vb web application project Added references to the silverlight project from both web apps set a breakpoint in App.xaml.cs constructor if i run the c# webapp the break points are hit whereas if i run the vb webapp they are not. has anyone come across this before or can anyone suggest a solution please? • How to convert from integer to unsigned char in C, given integers larger than 256?

  As part of my CS course I've been given some functions to use. One of these functions takes a pointer to unsigned chars to write some data to a file (I have to use this function, so I can't just make my own purpose built function that works differently BTW). I need to write an array of integers whose values can be up to 4095 using this function (that only takes unsigned chars). However am I right in thinking that an unsigned char can only have a max value of 256 because it is 1 byte long? I therefore need to use 4 unsigned chars for every integer? But casting doesn't seem to work with larger values for the integer. Does anyone have any idea how best to convert an array of integers to unsigned chars?

By example, for what I understand, adorners can add some controls to a UI element, but I think that the same behavior can be achieved through a custom control that contains the additional element. So, my question is: when should I prefer adorners to a more complex (but I think, more flexible) custom control? I got the final HTML code, which validates, but the structure of the document is laid out using DL-DD pairs: <dl> <dd class="some-class"> Some text. </dd> </dl> I'm not especially familiar with those tags as I've never used them much, but they don't seem intended for document structure. • Performance problem loading lots of user controls

  My application is loading a bunch of the same user control into a ScrollPanel. The problem is, this is very slow. The profiler show that the method Application.LoadComponent(), which is called internally by in the designer code in the constructor of my user control, is the bottleneck. The documentation of this method says, that this method load XAML files. I alway though the compiler compiles XAML to BAML and embedds it into the assembly. So the question is, how can I use BAML instead of XAML? Is there another way to make loading my user controls faster?

  In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I must admit it is very comfortable cause i have ORM to my full DB and query with linq is easy and simple. My questions are: 1.   If you have a namespace that contains a property in ClassA and a class that has the name of that Property somewhere else in your project and both are in the same namespace this won't cause conflicts will it? So lets say I have a class named Car namespace Dealer { class Vehicle { // the main class that defines vehicle, so this is Dealer.Vehicle (Vehicle.cs) } } and a property over in some other class namespace Dealer { class Dealer { public Vehicle Vehicle { get { return _vehicle; } } } } so for the second it is really this for the property public Dealer.Vehicle Vehicle { get { return _car; } } so now you have Dealer.Vehicle and Dealer.Dealer.Vehicle. • ASP.NET/IIS: Tell IIS do not check for file existence

  In my Global.asax.cs, I have: routes.MapRoute("AssetCss", "css/{*path}", new { controller = "Asset", action = "Index" }); I also have this in a view: <link href="/css/Root/index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> The problem is that the AssetController does not invoke Index when /css/Root/index.css is requested. This is because a file actually exists at the path /css/Root/index.css. If I recall correctly, there's a checkbox setting in IIS that basically says "Do not check that a file actually exists at the request path [instead, let the RouteTable handle it]." (At least there is in IIS 6.) Is there something I can put in my Web.config that sets this IIS setting to true? How do I tell IIS to let my MVC routes handle the path even if a file exists at the path?

• Returning multiple datasets from a stored proc in VB

  I have an encrypted SQL Server stored proc that I run with (or the vb .net equivalent code of): declare @p4 nvarchar(100) set @p4=NULL declare @p5 bigint set @p5=NULL exec AA_PAY_BACS_EXPORT_RETRIEVE_S @PS_UserId=N'ADMN', @PS_Department=N'', @PS_PayFrequency=2, @PS_ErrorDescription=@p4 output select @p4, @p5 this returns 2 datasets and the output parameters for the results, the datasets are made up of various table joins etc, one holds the header record and one the detail records. I need to get the 2 datasets into a structure in VB .net (e.g. linq, sqldatareader, typed datasets) so that I can code with them, I don't know what tables any of this comes from and there are alot of them Whooopeee!!! I came close using Linq to SQL and IMultipleResults but got frustrated when I had to recode it every time I made a change to the designer file. My feelings are that there must be a simple way to do this, any ideas?
