• Square a number in NASM assembly without multiplication

  Is it possible to square a number stored in a register (say eax) without doing any multiplication (by using shifts, etc)? I will be squaring a 16-bit number in 32-bit assembly so overflow shouldn't be an issue. I am using NASM x86 assembly to create the program. Thanks in advance for your help.

  I have looked into Geopy and googlemaps (http://py-googlemaps.sourceforge.net/) and they both do not work for Chinese addresses. My app is stored on the Google App Engine. What I want to do is to parse a file containing addresses of restaurants in Hong Kong, and then Geocode the addresses and store the Lat and Lng in the datastore. How do I do this?

• Getting ImageView dimensions before adding the image

  I've got a RelativeLayout that contains these items: LinearLayout ImageView (weight = 1) LinearLayout So, the ImageView should expand and pin the other layouts on the top/bottom of the screen. I'm loading the ImageView using an image stored on a web server. However, I can fetch images of any size from the server, so I'd rather just fetch the exact image size I need. Thus, I need to get the size of the ImageView before I actually fill it in. How can I do this?

• How to dump memcache contents to console in a telnet session

  I am having problems with memcached, and I need to find what is actually stored in the cache. I have telnet'ed into the daemon and am listening on the port, and can send the daemon commands via the CLI. I want to know if anyone is aware of a command I can use to dump the contents of the cache to the console. I know of commands like 'flush_all' and 'stats' but those are not quite sufficient for what I want to do.

  As a follow-up of this question: sqlite-over-a-network-share If I put the SQlite DB on a network share, but will not access it concurrently from different machines. I only have the SQLite db stored on a share so a cluster of failover computers can take over where one machine left off. Are there any inherent problems with that approach?

  There is a column in database which contains comma seperated values like: 0.00,12.45,14.33 and so on. I need to sum this inside a stored procedure. One way which I can think of is to split and convert it into a table using a function and then sum it. Any other ideas?

• How do I get the entity framework to work with archive flags?

  I'm trying to create a set of tables where we don't actually delete them, but rather we set the archive flags instead. When we delete an entity, it shouldn't be deleted, it should be marked as archived instead. What are the programming patterns to support this? I would also prefer not to have to roll out my own stored procs for every table that have these archive flags if there is another solution.

  I'm trying to display the Baseline Start, Finish, Cost, and Work values for a ResourceAssignment, but cannot seem to find any methods on the ResourceAssignment object that would provide this information. Anybody know if this is possible? I know the information is stored because I can see it in MS Project, and I can see it in the XML version of the project file.   Should libraries that the application relies on be stored in source control? One part of me says it should and another part say's no. It feels wrong to add a 20mb library that dwarfs the entire app just because you rely on a couple of functions from it (albeit rather heavily). Should you just store the jar/dll or maybe even the distributed zip/tar of the project? What do other people do?

But most programs store their settings in the sub-folder "anwendungsdaten" (German, application data). Is there a way to get the direct path to this folder?   I have some viewdata that is generated by going through my repository to the database to grab some scheduling info. When the information is stored in the Viewdata, I noticed that the viewdata is enumerated. How could I access the enumerated items and generate a table/list based on the viewdata?
