  • Restore single users Exchange 2003 mailbox from backup

    I take weekly backups of exchange in full. I also take complete weekly backups of the entire server. It is a Server 2003 R2 with AD and Exchange 2003 all on one box. One users inbox has disappeared. She has 19000+ junk items now. It is possible the inbox got mixed into the junk. Regardless it is such a huge mess she is not going to go through all of that.... I want to restore he mailbox from the backup. I followed this MS KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823176 I had to use Method 3. I have a VM of Server 2003 R2 with exchange but I am having failures on the restore from NT backup. The backup log just states to check the application log.... Application log points to backup log... Only info Is failed to restore Only thing different is the computer name... The only error I can find is in the Application log. Information Store Database not found All others just say that the backup failed. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. UPDATE I have successfully proven I can restore the DB into a recovery storage group in my VM Unfortunately due to the actual account being on a different store I am unable to do the recovery... Error is The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000 Two questions QUESTION 1 Should I repeat my steps on the production exchange server in the recover storage group? then merge into her original account? I am just concerned with doing recovery like that on the live server.... QUESTION 2 Is there any way I can extract her .PST from my recovery VM and then import into her outlook? On the Recovery VM: I restored the raw DB from my full backup repaired it with ESEUTIL then mounted in the recovery store. Was thinking I could just repeat and mount in the main store on the VM?   • Outlook uses > 700mb of RAM. How do I fix this?!

    I've been using outlook for years now, and I've never run into this problem before. Using Microsoft Outlook 2007, with only 1 email account, and no more than 100 emails in my inbox (though I have many many folders, with emails in them), Outlook can sit around and eventually get up to 700mb of ram usage. I've tried different types I've read, like compacting my folders, or not using Internet Calendars / RSS features, and right now I've even disabled Xobni...but still no effect. Any ideas?! Thanks!   • How can I replicate incoming imap mail to another folder?

    I am using Apple's Mobile Me and am looking for a program that I can leave running on a Unix server somewhere that will monitor the IMAP INBOX and automatically copy all incoming messages to another mailbox (call it Archive). I've tried implementing this myself in python with imaplib2 and the IDLE command and have found that my connection keeps getting disconnected. Is there any off-the-shelf open source software that I can use to do this?

  • Save open emails when exiting Outlook 2007?

    I use open emails as my todo list in Outlook 2007. For instance, when I look at my Inbox in the morning, I open all emails which I need to respond to, and throughout the day read, respond to and close each one. It's an odd system but it's how I manage my emails. Are there any addons available which will save open emails and reopen them if Outlook is restarted? I'm looking for behavior like Firefox's tabs, which will reopen each one if the process gets killed.

    Can Outlook 2003 sort by received and then subject so that I can always see the newest mail first? So if it's 5:30pm now and I get mail at 5:31, it shows at the top. then if I get mail at 5:35 and it is a response to an existing subject, can it show next at the top of my inbox with all related conversations/subjects with it. Gmail can do this and this is what I'm looking for an Outlook.

    Over the weekend our Exchange server was blasted with emails. Using recipient policies in the mailbox manager, how do I remove emails that are in the inbox, but coming from a specific sender (or maybe containing a specific subject?). Perhaps someone has some suggestions for another route to take aside from recipient policies, but that will affectively achieve the same end goal? Any help is much appreciated.

However, when I view all conversations of a single label, by clicking the label in the box left on the screen, mails are ordered by first activity. Can anyone confirm this, and does anyone know how I can change this behaviour?

  • Move Items per rule after they are one day old

    I'm not even sure if this is possible with Outlook's current rule set but I thought I'd ask. I'd like emails that meet certain characteristics to automatically be moved from my inbox after they are a day old. I get a lot of notification emails that I end up having to remove the next day manually since I get new ones to replace them each day. So a rule would be like: If the email is from [email protected] and older then 1 day move to already read folder.
