• How can I get bash to perform tab-completion for my aliases?

  I have a bunch of bash completion scripts set up (mostly using bash-it and some manually setup). I also have a bunch of aliases setup for common tasks like gco for git checkout. Right now I can type git checkout dTab and develop is completed for me but when I type gco dTab it does not complete. I'm assuming this is because the completion script is completing on git and it fails to see gco. Is there a way to generically/programmatically get all of my completion scripts to work with my aliases? Not being able to complete when using the alias kind of defeats the purpose of the alias.

I thought, it is a bug with bash-completion package and I purged it. But even after that, I still face this.   This have happened to me 4 times. When I use alt-tab Unity resets. It doesn't close any apps, but when I click an app that was already open - but minimized - I only can see the minimize/maximize/close buttons and a thin border around the window, it but nothing in it, as on the following picture: This doesn't just happen to one app, but to all my opened minimized apps. I also want to ask if I should file a bug report?

  I've experienced something weird with Unity and that is that sometimes the Alt+Tab switcher stops showing (yes, only showing because I can still to blind switch between applications), and the left unity bar is only shown on the desktop. I might think that it's compiz, but the rest of the effects are ok :S I don't have the exact sequence to repeat this error, it seems to be random :S Do you know what could it be?

  I'm learning about the more powerful tab-completion and expansion capabilities of zsh, and they don't seem to work when I run zsh under emacs with M-x shell: cat $PATH<TAB> expands the tab variable in Terminal, but in shell-mode it just beeps. I poked around the emacs environment and here's what I found: TAB (translated from ) runs the command completion-at-point, which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `minibuffer.el'. It is bound to TAB, . (completion-at-point) Perform completion on the text around point. The completion method is determined by `completion-at-point-functions'. completion-at-point-functions is a variable defined in `minibuffer.el'. Its value is (tags-completion-at-point-function) So I'm surmising I need to add a function to completion-at-point-functions, but which one?

  There is a 2d array of items (in my case they are called Intersections). A certain item is given as a start. The task is to find all items directly or indirectly connected to this item that satisfy a certain function. So the basic algorithm is like this: Add the start to the result list. Repeat until no modification: Add each item in the array that satisfies the function and touches any item in the result list to the result list.   Hi, I have squid running on a gateway machine & I am trying to integrate it with Active Directory for authentication & also for giving different browsing permissions for different users. 1) /usr/lib/squid/ldap_auth -b OU=my,DC=company,DC=com -h ldapserver -f sAMAccountName=%s -D "CN=myadmin,OU=Unrestricted Users,OU=my,DC=company,DC=com" -w mypwd 2) /usr/lib/squid/squid_ldap_group -b "OU=my,DC=company,DC=com" -f "(&(sAMAccountName=%u)(memberOf=cn=%g,cn=users,dc=company,dc=com))" -h ldapserver -D "CN=myadmin,OU=Unrestricted Users,OU=my,DC=company,DC=com" -w zxcv Using the first command above, I am able to authenticate users. Using the second command above, I am able to figure out if a user belongs to a particular active directory group. So I should be able to set ACL's based on groups. However, my customer's AD setup is such that he has users arranged in different Nodes. For eg. He has users setup in the following way cn=usr1,ou=Lev1,ou=Users,ou=my,ou=company,ou=com cn=usr2,ou=Lev2,ou=Users,ou=my,ou=company,ou=com cn=usr3,ou=Lev3,ou=Users,ou=my,ou=company,ou=com etc. So, he wants that I have different permissions based on whether a user belongs to Lev1 or Lev2 or Lev3 nodes. Note that these aren't groups, but nodes. Is there a way to do this with squid? My squid is running on a debian machine.

• Referencing groups/classes from Puppet dashboard in my site manifest

  I'm using Puppet Dashboard as my ENC and I'm not sure how to reference or use class and group classifications from /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp. I have two groups defined in the dashboard: CentOS6 and SLES11. What should my site.pp look like if I want to include a certain list of modules in the CentOS6 group and a certain list of modules in the SLES11 group? I'm trying to do something like this: # /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp node basenode { include hosts include ssh::server include ssh::client include authentication include sudo include syslog include mail } node 'CentOS6' inherits basenode { include profile } node 'SLES11' inherits basenode { include usrmounts } I have OS-specific case statements within my modules, but there are some modules that will only be applied to a certain distro. So I suppose I have two questions: Is this the best way to apply modules/resources in an OS-specific manner? Or does the above make you want to vomit? Regardless of #1, I'm still curious as how to reference classes, groups, and nodes from Dashboard within my manifests. I've read the External Nodes doc, but I'm not seeing how they correspond to manifests. Thanks all.

• How to use cyg-wrapper to fork a new tab in win32 gvim

  I would like to set up an alias in my cygwin .bashrc that translates pathnames unix-to-dos and passes them to windows gvim in a new tab of an existing instance. I am trying to use Luc Hermitte's cyg-wrapper script for running native win32 applications from Cygwin as per this vim tip. Luc's example of how to use his script is: alias vi= 'cyg-wrapper.sh "C:/Progra~1/Edition/vim/vim63/gvim.exe" --binary-opt=-c,--cmd,-T,-t,--servername,--remote-send,--remote-expr' I do not understand this example because most of these vim parameters (-c,--cmd,--servername,--remote-send,--remote-expr, etc) require more information, and I have not found any example of how to supply the additional information to cyg-wrapper.sh. For example, calling C:/Progra~1/Edition/vim/vim63/gvim.exe --servername=GVIM --remote-tab-silent file1 & will open file1 in a new tab of existing (or non existing) instance GVIM, but calling gvim --servername accomplishes nothing on its own. Unfortunately, though, the corresponding cyg-wrapper phrase does not work: cyg-wrapper.sh "C:/Progra~1/Edition/vim/vim63/gvim.exe" --binary-opt=--servername=GVIM,--remote-tab-silent --fork=2 file1 If ran twice, this actually opens up two instances of gvim; it is as if the servername 'GVIM' is being stripped and ignored. How do you supply a servername to gvim --servername or a .vimrc to gvim -u using cyg-wrapper.sh? Furthermore, why is it that programs must be passed to cyg-wrapper.sh in the relatively obscure "mixed form?" For example, if I try cyg-wrapper.sh "/cygdrive/c/path/to/GVimPortable.exe" --binary-opt=--servername=GVIM,--remote-tab-silent --fork=2 I get "Invalid switch - "/cygdrive"."   Alt-Tab or Command-Tab can sometimes be slow, especially when you have many windows open and you frequently switch to only a few of those windows. How do you work around this problem -- any tool to switch to desired windows (most frequently accessed) directly, other than tapping the Alt-Tab combination multiple times? Note: This should work on Windows 7, Linux and Mac. Update: Please post your keyboard-shortcut solutions (using the mouse cannot be any faster - especially when you were touch-typing/writing-code before switching to a window).

When I am opening the new tab it is also in the same path. i.e. the new tab's pwd will be /home/user/programs/c/ But what I want is when I am opening a new tab its pwd should be /home/user. • Chrome Tab Ordering?

  If I'm on the first tab, and I hit Ctrl+T, I want it to open next to (to the right of) the current tab. Is there an extension for this? I think I want to change the closed tab ordering too... but I can never remember how I like it until I play with it. I think move to the left tab is what I like. TabMixPlus gives me these options in FF, is there a similar extension available yet? Or some hidden options in Chrome?

  When you press the v keyboard shortcut in Google Reader, it opens a new tab. Regardless of the setting "When a new tab or window is opened, make it active" setting (Under Preferences Tabs), it becomes the frontmost tab when opened. Is there a way to have all tabs open in the background, like when you Cmd+click? (I'm aware of other alternative solutions, such as Firefox which handles this correctly, or a desktop RSS such as NetNewsWire/Vienna which have an "open links in background" option, but I like Google Reader's interface and wish to continue using it)

• Using Ctrl-Tab to switch between tabs in Mac Terminal.app

  How can I make Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab switch between tabs in Terminal.app on a Mac (OS 10.4 and 10.5 specifically)? This is how I switch tabs in Firefox and Aquamacs, and Command-Shift-[ and Command-Shift-] is too awkward to me. I am aware of this related question: .../unable-to-switch-a-tab-efficiently-in-macs-terminal* And hence the Keyboard Shortcuts section of the System Preferences, but the dialog box for Keyboard Shortcuts doesn't seem to accept Ctrl-Tab in the Keyboard Shortcut field. Is there a special keyboard sequence for inputting tabs (with modifiers) into a dialog box field on a Mac? Is there any other method that would allow me to customize Terminal.app in the way I desire? Not really a programming question, but I think the answer would be useful to other folks that program on Macs and would like to have some consistency between interfaces of different applications.   I have the problem that when I send my computer to sleep it wakes if you bump the table, floor, burp etc. I have read many threads that say go to Device Manager Mouse Properties Power Management Tab and uncheck the box for wake. My problem is I do not have a Power Management Tab! Anyone know how to enable the tab or stop the mouse from waking my machine? And no, turning it upside down doesn't work either!

  Related to : Cmd-Tab does not bring iTunes to foreground There people claim that command+h will continue to work, but the behavior I'm seeing is: Launch a full screen Terminal instance (or anything else really) Launch a fresh iTunes command+h to hide it command+tab back to iTunes, this works and the main app window is given focus command+tab to Terminal command+tab to iTunes What I expect to happen: the main iTunes window is brought to the foreground and given focus. What does happen: The application menu bar shows iTunes, but an additional command+` is needed to bring the main app to foreground. I thought it might have been related to a Chrome interaction, since I'm usually commmand+tabbing between my browser and everything else, but that does not seem to be the case. I do have two "plugins" running: last.fm scrobbler Alfred app mini itunes player interface Not sure if either of those create some phantom window or something that is mixing something up. Versions of stuff: OS X: 10.6.5 iTunes: 10.1.1 (4) last.fm: can't find it, but it's recent Alfred: 0.8 (89) So after that big long rant, anyone else seeing this behavior?

• Pressing tab to indent a list moves to the next table cell

  I have a list (e.g., a bulleted list) in Microsoft Word. This list is inside a table cell. When I press Tab to increase the indent, rather than increasing the indent, it moves the cursor to the next cell. When I try Ctrl+Tab, it just inserts a tab character without changing the indentation of the bullet (paragraph). How can I turn this off, so it does not go to the next cell but rather just indents the list?

  The problem is, both Firefox and Internet Explorer have "Open in New Tab" as the second option. This has become muscle memory for me by now, to the point that I don't use as often as I want to, solely because I can't open a page in a new tab without thinking about it. Is there a way to switch the position of "Open Link in new tab" and "Open link in new window", so that I can resume browsing as normal, or am I cursed by this user interface design nightmare by Google?

• What's up with tab order on my Mac?

  So, I just got my first Mac. It is slick, and I feel like I don't know how to do anything, but overall it is a great machine. However, I am becoming frustrated with the tab order in most web pages. For example, this site. If I am composing a comment and press tab, focus is set to the address bar. I would like the focus to shift to the button next to the text area, but no luck. Also, I cannot seem to tab into combo boxes in form pages. What is going on here exactly? This happens in FireFox as well as Safari. I don't get why the tab order of a page would not be respected. Any help is appreciated.

  Previously, there was an Internet Time tab on the Date and Time applet of the Control Panel, wherein one could force a query of an internet time server and also type in a different server from the ones supplied. However, this tab has now disappeared, and I need to have it back. I should mention that this machine has never been part of a domain, since it seems that machines that are such do not have such a tab. • Missing the "add tab group to favorites " option in IE8

  I have internet options selected for quick tabs and tab groups in setting, IE8 WIndows XP. I can open a list of favorites from the menu using the blue arrow as a tab group. I can then use the quick tabs button to show the groups open. However, I do not have the "add tab group to favorites" option in the pull down menu for favotites at the Favorite Bar. Is this a Vista feature only?
