• Create an automatic date stamp in excel from an entry.

  I am trying to have a date stamp event happen in column B when an entry is made in column A. Now i can do this in VBA with no problem, the trouble i am running into is there is also a entry that will eventually go in say column D and would need a date stamp in column E as well. is this possible. here is a sample of the code i have used so far. • Concatenating NSString inside of UITextView

  I'm some trouble adding strings together for a UITextView in my app. The method I've been using is this (header) #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface calculatorViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UITextView *output; } -(IBAction)b1; @property(nonatomic, copy) NSString *output; @end (main) #import "calculatorViewController.h" @implementation calculatorViewController -(void)b1 { [output stringByAppendingString:@"hi"]; } The problem I've been having with this method is when I use the button the app crashes. The warning it gives me is 'UITextView' may not respond to '-stringByAppendingString:' When I replace output with at string it works though and that confused me. Any suggestions?   I'm having trouble with inserting a value into a database through node.js. Here is the offending code: sql.query(conn_str ,"INSERT INTO Login(email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName) VALUES(?, ?, ?, ?, ?); SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS 'Identity';" , [email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName], function(err, results){ console.log(results) } Unfortunately, the console is just echoing [], meaning results is an empty array, I suppose. Does anyone know why the identity is not being returned? Even if it was null, why isn't results then [{Identity: null }] ? Database is on Azure, which does have a "Scope_Identity" function, and the native client also recognises this function. Using node package "msnodesql" Please Help

  Hi, I'm trying to implement Membership controls in a mvc 2 application and i'm having trouble dealing with the MembershipUser class. I have my own data store (in Postgresql) and I'm using Nhibernate to deal with it from C#. The thing is, I have my own user class, but I can't use it with any provider I found that implements Membership, because all the functions return the predefined MembershipUser class and cannot return my own. I'm losing my mind here, is there any way i can work with this, or should I implement everything myself? thanks in advance!

How do i call this method and pass in the values?

  I'm having trouble using the Ribbon control from the Office 2007 RibbonControlsLibrary.dll. It works for most people but not for me. The fault I get is: Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon' defined in assembly 'RibbonControlsLibrary, Version=3.5.31016.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation The problem is probably not with the code since it works for other people. Its the Ribbon class thats causing the problem. If I remove any references to the Ribbon class but keep the references to RibbonWindow I don't get any exceptions. Any help appreciated

  Hi, I'm starting a new project. It will run on devices running Windows CE, Windows Mobile 6 and will also have a desktop version. The software will connect to some equipments through the serial port, using it's own protocol. Basically it will: connect to the equipment send and receive info read and write binary files These tasks will be shared between desktop and mobile devices. I've been searching the information I need, but I still have some doubts: If I target Windows CE devices it will work with Windows Mobile 6 too? Creating a class library targeting Windows CE will give me any trouble on using it in the desktop version? (when I add a reference to that class library, my VS says that I could experience some unexpected results) Is it possible to install .NET CF 3.5 on devices running Windows CE 4.2? Thanks!

I get this runtime error message: java.util.EnumSet.EnumSetImpl is not default instantiable (it must have a zero-argument constructor or no constructors at all) and has no custom serializer. Is this is a known issue? • Canonicalizing XML in Ruby

  I'm working on a SAML gateway using Ruby/Rails and I'm attempting to write some code that validates the xml digital signature of the incoming SAML response against the x509 cert of the originating service. My problem: the signature depends on a canonicalized version of the XML that is hashed and then signed and I'm having trouble finding a ruby lib/gem that will canonicalize XML per the spec. I found a super old gem on rubyforge that is a mess but I'd be more interested if something like nokogiri supported this kind of functionality (from the nokogiri docs, it doesn't). I've googled extensively but thought I'd ask around here to see if anyone has any good insights before I go and try to write my own version or rework the existing c14n-r library.

• Should my internal API classes be all in one package?

  I'm hard at work packaging up an API for public consumption. As such I'm trying to limit the methods that are exposed to only those that I wish to be public and supportable. Underneath this of course there are a multitude of limited access methods. The trouble is that I have a lot of internal code that needs to access these restricted methods without making those methods public. This creates two issues: I can't create interfaces to communicate between classes as this would make these my internal methods public. I can't access protected or default methods unless I put the majority of my internal classes in the same package. So, I have around 70 or 80 internal classes in cleanly segregated packages BUT with overly permissive access modifiers. Would you say that a single package is the lesser of two evils or is there a better way to be able to mask my internal methods whilst keeping more granular packages? I'd be interested to find out the best practice here. I'm already aware of This

• Shipping jar with default .properties file configurations

  Hello, I would like to include a default default.properties file in my .jar library. The idea is to allow the user to override my default is he so desires. I'm having trouble getting the classloader to play nicely with this setup, I've tried to look a at popular jars such as log4j, common-* and others and it seems that no one is implementing this idea. Am I going the wrong way? The second best thing is hard coding the values, and using the default if no .properties key has been found, but this sound oh so wrong. Suggestions?

• Maven: Multiple class with the same path implemented in different jar

  I'm running into trouble with having multiple class with the same path (i.e. same name, same package!!!). For some reason, gwt-dev comes with its own version of org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl and javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory. At the same time, spring also depends on these classes but from different jar. I don't know what should be, but look like xalan & xml-api are the two dependencies that spring depends on (these dependency are optional) Funny thing is that eclipse can run the same code (it's a unit test) without problem, but surefire cannot. So I guess the problem is due to the way each runner consider the priority of each jar. Now come to the question: How can I setup my POM so that I can sure that when ever any code running inside my app, then class from a jar will be selected over class from other jar? Thanks.

Java's pattern matcher doesn't seem to accept \? as a valid escape sequence but it also fails to work with the tester at myregexp.com. It implies you cannot have multiple conditions unless you use the tag, but there are no examples of how to use it. Consequently I nested two tags, however I feel silly doing this when I know there is a better way. • Getters and Setters: Code smell, Necessary Evil, or Can't Live Without Them [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Allen Holub wrote “You should never use get/set functions”, is he correct? Is there a good, no, a very good reason, to go through all the trouble of using getters and setters for object-oriented languages? What's wrong with just using a direct reference to a property or method? Is there some kind of "semantical coverup" that people don't want to talk about in polite company? Was I just too tired and fell asleep when someone walked out and said "Thou Shalt Write Copious Amounts of Code to Obtain Getters and Setters"? Follow-up after a year: It seems to be a common occurrence with Java, less so with Python. I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of a cultural phenomena (related to the limitations of the language) rather than "sage advice". The -1 question score is complete for-the-lulz as far as I am concerned. It's interesting that there are specific questions that are downvoted, not because they are "bad questions", but rather, because they hit someone's raw nerve.

• Evenly distribute items on the screen

  I am trying to solve this little puzzle (the algorithm): I have N image icons and I want to distribute them evenly on users screen. Say, I put them in a table. If there is one image, there will be one cell in a table. If two - one row with two columns, if three - one row and three columns, if four - two rows, two columns... and so on until row space is gone and since then the table should only grow in columns without adding extra rows. I'm trying to figure an algorithm for this and perhaps this is something that has a solution already somewhere? My attempt is so far something like this: obtain_max_rows() obtain_visible_columns() if (number_of_pictures > max_rows*max_columns) { columns = roundup(number_of_pictures/max_rows) for(max_rows){generate row;for columns{generate column}} } else { **here comes to trouble...** } This logic is bit silly though - it somehow needs to think cases where there are 12 pictures on first screen and 2 on the other trying to balance it say 8/6 or somehow like that.

• Prolog - Finding the current directory, relative directory for 'tell' predicate

  I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to get prolog to spit out a text file where I want it to. I'm currently doing a bunch of operations and then using tell('output.txt') to record the output. Now the problem is that when I do this, it creates this file in the SWI \bin\ folder. I was wondering if there's a way to make it create this file in the directory containing the actual .pl file. So even if the file was moved (and it will be), the text file gets created right where the source file is. Long story short, is there a way to get the location of the source file once the source file has been consulted? Many Thanks!

  Hello, we are converting from sharepoint 2003 to sharepoint on line. I am having trouble reproducing a specific behavior in the online version. If a choose a list, I get a "select a view" navigation on the left hand side of the page showing the available views. When a new view is created, it automatically appears on this navigation list. In the online sharepoint, instead there is a view dropdown. I know I can manually setup links on the quick launch but I'm looking for an automatic way to do this. Can the online sharepoint be set up so that when views are added they automatically appear as left-hand links? Or can the "views" dropdown be moved to the left side which would be an acceptable work around? Please note I am unfamiliar with SP designer and I do work with .NET but I dont want to go that route just for this issue - thanks.
