Where can an absolute beginner of Kohana PHP go to learn how to use it from the ground up?

Hi guys! I have a month of free time and I've decided to launch my own website. It's going to be big and have dymanic content where different users with different roles can perform modifications to the site. Place comments, rate stores, list items, etc. This sound like a perfect opportunity for me to expand my horizons and learn a PHP Framework. I've used PHP bare bones before but nothing too complex. As of now, do you think Kohana is a mature framework to use? I've used Zend in the past for a course in Uni but it sucked horribly, I was new to the MVC model, but Zend had pretty much zero workable tutorials and guides for newbies. That's why I hated it. Where can I go to learn how to use Kohana from a retarded starting point? Thank you very much for your time.

Need help with video streaming with web-embedded Windows Media Player Component

Hello, I need to be able to play a .wmv video in a Windows Media Player component on a web page starting at a particular specified point in the video right away. I can embed the component and play the video. The problem is that even if I specify the location with The PARAM “currentPosition”, the video starts to play from the beginning. This appears to be because the requested position in the video has not been loaded yet. If I wait until the video has been loaded to the requested position and refresh the page, it will then play from the requested position. It seems that the video must start loading from the requested position in order to start right away. If this is the correct way, how would I go about doing it? If it is not, what is the proper way to do it? It can obviously be done, because YouTube’s players work like this. Thank you,

Firefox why window.opener is defined even for a new tab

Hi! I am porting quite old corp application from IE to Firefox. Here is my situation. User goes away from computer for a while and his session becomes expired. When user tries to access something in popup, he is being redirected to login page (in popup window). In login page onload event popup window chain is being closed and root page refreshed (in root page tab user is redirected to login page). The guy before me wrote this like this: if window.top.opener is undefined, we're not in popup. That's why I am getting non-stoppable refresh in Firefox. Why in Firefox window.opener is still defined and points to same window, even if this is a new tab, not popup? How should I correctly determine that current window is popup?

Django and mod_python intermittent error?

I have a Django site at http://sm.rutgers.edu/relive/af_api/index/. It is supposed to display "Home of the relive APIs". If you refresh this page many times, you can see different renderings. 1) The expected page. 2) Django "It worked!" page. 3) "ImportError at /index/" page. If you scroll down enough to ROOT_URLCONF part, you will see it says 'relive.urls'. But apparently, it should be 'af_api.urls', which is in my settings.py file. Since these results happen randomly, is it possible that either Django or mod_python is working unstably?

Bookmarklet to edit current URL.

Hi, I'm looking for a simple bookmarklet to take the current URL of my website and refresh it with a couple of changes. For example: Take the current page: http://www.example.com/pages/ and change it to: https: //admin.example.com/pages/ * then load that new URL. *(I added an extra space after https:// because I'm a new user so can't have more than one link in my question) I tried searching for a bookmarklet that can do this but I couldn't find one. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Even a bookmarklet that does something like this that I can edit to suit my needs. Thanks for any help.

resetting the image in an NSView

I think this is a very simple question, but I’m new to programming so I may be going about it in a wrong-headed way. I have a basic understanding of Objective-C writing terminal applications and am teaching myself how to use the Cocoa GUI. I understand how to use IBOutlet and IBAction to connect a simple button to a method that will repeatedly send random numbers to a textfield . I understand how to add a NSView file, connect it to a custom view in interface builder and draw a path through random points in the view when the application launches. (I’ve been putting this code inside the - (void)drawRect:(NSRect)dirtyRect method that is declared when the file is created). What I can’t seem to figure out is how to connect a button to an action that will then ‘refresh’ the view – in this case repopulate it with another set of random points connected with a path. Looking at the documentation, I think I should somehow be using – (void) setNeedsDisplay(BOOL)flag but nothing I have tried so far had worked. Please tell me, what am I missing here?

Hi - Is it possible to have an array that contains two different types of data? I want to have an array that contains a double and also a string. I attempted: ArrayList<double><String> array; But that didn't work. Sorry for the silly question, but it has been a while since I have used something like this.. Can you refresh my memory on how would I declare and populate such an array? And then to take it a step further, I would like to sort the array by the double if possible? Thanks!

GMap in iframe gets off-center

I have a Google Map (API 2) that used to work fine as a standalone page. However, when I load the map page within an iframe (with Thickbox), the map gets off-center: normally it's centered over Germany and in the iframe it centers on Iran, instead. How to make the map center correctly? My guesses: The problem can result from the iframe loading time. I guess, that the script calculates window size basing on the iframe size when it's still loading. It's strange since I load the map when the document is ready. $(document).ready(function() { setupSearchForm(); setupMap(); setupResults(); }); For instance, when I refresh the already loaded iframe the center comes back to Germany. Using Web Flow 2 in JSF application

Hi, I created a JSF cart application which runs just fine. I am using 'redirect' to fix the problem with refresh. The problem is when there is multiple page flow logic like if you haven't signed up you need to sign up or create an account, and once you do that you need to be redirected back to where you were when you were asked to sign up in the first place. So my goal is to use Web Flow 2 in order to make navigation rules easier to code. I have been working on them separately but I don't know how to merge so that Web Flow can handle navigation instead. I'm having trouble submitting a login form via Ajax for a php script to run and return a new set of html items which will be replacing the HTML in #userlinks.... heres what I have so far $("#login_form").submit(function() { return false; }); $('#login_button').click(function(event) { $form = $(this).parent("form"); $.post($form.attr("action"), $form.serialize(), function(data){ $('#userlinks').html(data); }); }); The php script checks for post data of username && password, yet all I'm getting is a page refresh and no changes. Nothing returns unless I turn login_button into a link and change the script a bit... Any help would be appreciated!

How to schedule a cron job to backup a MySql database every week?

What is a command line I can use to back up a MySql database every single week into a file name with the date (so that it doesn't collide with previous backups)? Also, is this a reasonable backup strategy? My database is relatively small (a complete export is only 3.2 megs right now). The churn rate is relatively low. I need to be able to get the complete DB back if something goes wrong. And it would be extra cool if there's a way that I could see the changes that occur across a time span.

Are entities cached in jpa by default ?

Hello, I add entity to my database and it works fine. But when i retrieve the List, i get the old entity, the new entities i add are not shown until i undeploy the application and redeploy it again. This means are my entities cached by default? But, I haven't made any settings for caching entities in my persistence.xml or any such file. I have even tried calling flush(), refresh() and merge(). But still it shows the old entities only. Am i missing something? Please help me.

I am trying render a simple animation(object movement animations) on iphone. I used opengl for object rendering. Movements appears to be smooth on the simulator. But if I used same code in the ipod, object movement is slower. In the iphone it is still slower. I googled a bit and found 'frame rate independent rendering method', which taught me the concept of 'time interval' and object movement based on it. However result is very unpleasant. There is a lot of jerk in the animation even when fps remains above 20. Following code fragment is used for calculation of time interval between successive frames and I am using that to move my animation. setNeedsDisplayInRect: paints a white rectangle only

Hi, I'm still a little fresh to CoreGraphics programming, so please bear with me. I'm trying to write an application, which allows the user to rub stuff off an image with the finger. I have the basic functionality nailed down, but the result is sluggish since the screen is redrawn completely every time a touch is rendered. I did some research and found out that I can refresh only a portion of the screen using UIView's setNeedsDisplayInRect: method. This does call drawRect: as expected, however everything I draw in the drawRect: following the setNeedsDisplayInRect: is ignored. Instead, the area in the rect parameter is simply filled with white. No matter what I draw inside, all I end up with is a white rectangle. In essence, this is what I do: 1) when user touches screen, this touch is rendered into a mask 2) when the drawRect: is called, the image is masked with that mask There must be something simple I'm overlooking, surely?

hi all, i'm using c sharp and crystal reports in visual studio 2008 in my application. the problem is that there is a form that i have crystalreporviewer on, when i call the form from form1 by button click event, the form and the report loads perfect, but when i call the from from another from that i've called from form1, this exception appears "load report fail". how can i solve this problem. i've googled and i didn't find any solution. Getting Different IP each time

Hello, I am creating a poll script for a facebook fan page: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=115400635147687&v=app_115400635147687 I am getting the IP using: $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] But the problem is that each time I refresh the page, or make an ajax call, the IP is changed everytime. Someone told me that facebook has many IPs, proxies. Basically I need to save the IP in database, so that once a user from certain IP has voted, he should not be able to do so again. What is the solution or alternative to this?

I need to write my next project using ExtJs. It's a nice Javascript lib but I don't fully understand the idea behind it. Take the docs page for example: http://www.extjs.com/deploy/dev/docs/ Am I supposed to write my web applications with extjs like that? One page that should never be refreshed, and everything getting done by AJAX? How do you debug such applications if getting to the right place may take a lot of 'clicking' and working with it. You cannot fix the bug and hit refresh in the browser to see the results. Any suggestions?

Showing same dfp ads in a single page web application

I have a single page web application which contains dfp ads. I have two dfp adunits that Iam firing and they are placed in between the content which is a list of articles for a particular category. When I click on another category,it just loads articles for different category(doesnt change the url in address bar) and triggers the same ads. So this is like triggering the ads on the same page. The ads dont show up the second time and this is because you cant use the same adunits on the same page. Since I cannot use the refresh function provided by dfp since my DOM is reconstructed everytime, is there any way I can do this?.

Hi, I'm trying to create a PHP based game where you have to do all sorts of simple but un-obvious tasks in order to progress to the next level (eg. refresh browser, press keyboard combination, ...) Kinda like the game "this is the only level" (if anyone has ever heard of it) Now I was thinking: Would it be possible to create a level where they'd have to sign up at a different page in order to progress to the next level? So say for example they need to sign up to goal.com and if they're signed up they proceed to the next level. The page would need to constantly check if the signup process on the other site is completed. Is this even possbible? And if so, any thoughts on how? Thanks!
