• The new Facebook Pages removed publication localization (translation)? [closed]

  On the previous version of Facebook Pages I was able to specify in which language (or even countries) I wanted to publish a post. I've searched a LOT of time everywhere and I do not find anything like that since the timeline has landed on Facebook Pages. Do you know how I could publish something on a Facebook Page but only for ONE language? Because publishing things in several languages could get the "page fans" angry (too many new items that they could not read) and unlike the page. I would really appreciate how to find some language-specific options for new publications on a Facebook Page (I am admin of that page, of course). Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks you

• Is it possible to run two VPN clients at the same time?

  I would like to run two VPN clients at the same time: one Cisco client and one VPNC client. For now I have my VPNC client configured to route only some known IPs to the VNC interface and would like to add the same thing for the Cisco client at the same time. Is it possible ? Do I need a Cisco client to connect to a Cisco server or can I use an other client such as VPNc ? I installed the cisco one because it was the one suggested but I am wondering if this is mandatory ? I guess the answer may be yes, and off course I am interested in "required configurations" to do that

  As a semester project, I have the following specification: Write a simple single threaded ftp server. The ftp server is configurable from a configuration file. The config allows to set the interface (where the server listens), the roots of the served content, transfer log, and database of users and its passwords. The server allows to create a virtual filesystem. By a virtual filesystem, we mean a mapping of a served directory to the real directory on the filesystem. For example, the client tree will look like: /home/user1 maps to /mnt/x/home/user1 /www maps to /var/cache/www /home/user_list.txt maps to /var/ftpclient/user_list.txt The user will see /home/user1 directory and /www directory and the file /home/user_list.txt The course is in C++. The projects to this point have provided a lot of structure, such as a class header file to get you started on the program. My question is this: how can I get started on what seems like quite a massive project (I have 3 weeks to return a working implementation)?

• C++ developer looks for book(s) about Android apps & widgets (& services etc.) [on hold]

  I'm senior C++ developer, I have also programmed professionally j2me some years. I'd like to make some apps and widgets for Android and I'd like to read up a bit on this new java stuff Android is using. I have (of course) checked out some tutorials and so but it seems I miss the basics, I can compile some stuff (read: examples) in eclipse but I just don't know how to, for example, add a service or what an 'intent' is, why my widget isn't called but successfully launches the main app when clicked and so on. So, what is a really good book for someone that is a developer but mostly need the hard facts about developing something specific like Android apps & widgets? Thanks a bunch!

  If any1 can help would be much appreciated.. I recently build my own PC would like to use for gaming etc.. (With Ubuntu of course as my OS) Installed Ubuntu via Flash Drive Everything is connected. Purchased a Graphic card/GPU GPU info;(XFX Double D R9 270 925MHz Boost 2GB DDR5 DP HDMI 2XDVI Graphic card) Now my problem is when i put the CD to install the GPU Drivers it would not recognize the HDD So why is the hard drive not being recognized HDD info;(ADATA USA Premier pro SP600 32GB SATA) I am able to enter the BIOS menu (If that helps) Any help would be much appreciated & Thanks in advanced

• Unable to change desktop environment in 12.10

  I upgraded to 12.10 some days ago and now I'm unable to change between the environments. I currently have GNOME 3 (with extensions), KDE and, of course, Unity installed. The computer is a Lenovo G550. In the login screen I can get into the menu where the DEs are listed, but I can't select one. I can't use a test account of mine, which used GNOME 3, because after I logged in X crashes/restarts. Unity works, but I can't switch from the broken GNOME 3 to Unity. What did I broke during the upgrade and how can I fix it?

  I am currently working as an SDET(Software devlopment Engineer in Test). I have been doing some programming in C# as my job needs. I want to expand my knowledge and experience by creating some simple tools and applications of my own. Consider this like academic projects that are created by students at the end of their course . The idea is to have a practical knowledge on the subjects that I have a theoritical knowledge about. For Eg - I have read about multithreading and have worked on the examples but I do not have a grip over the concepts. In order to get a good grip over the concepts I want to work over some projects involving multithreading, starting with a simple one. Similarly other concepts like REST/SOAP web services using WCF.   Possible Duplicate: How Can I Know Whether I Am a Good Programmer? As many programmers I have worked in several languages. While of course there are some that I am more at ease than other, I do not have a real way to precisely measure my skill in a specific language. So I thought of a system which allows me to help me with that. I am looking for 5 common criteria in programming languages, to which I will have a value from 1 (junior) to 4 ( Senior) to represent my skill. • How to calculate shot angle and velocity to hit a moving target?

  I am developing a 2D Android game and I am making an aiming algorithm for AI projectiles to hit enemies either following a path, or free moving. At the moment it just calculates where the target will be after a distance and fires a projectile to meet it at that distance. Of course this means varying the projectile speed to meet the target. Does anyone have any tips for a simple-ish algorithm (optimal-ish) to calculate when the projectile needs to fire and where it needs to aim if it can only travel at a constant velocity? Say the projectile goes twice the speed of the target? The only way I can think of involves searching and seems quite large.

  My apologies for the subjective nature of this question but I'm unsure as to which path to follow. I would like to do a bit of indie game development for the iPhone (nothing serious, just something I've wanted to pursue). At my university we aren't taught Java or Objective-C but C#/.NET and HTML5/JavaScript. Is it worth taking what I already know and try to accomplish my goal using, for example, C# and Mono or should I invest the time and learn Objective-C? I don't have a problem learning something new alongside my course (I love learning new stuff) and time isn't a factor. I'm slightly in favor of learning Objective-C for as it would be another string to my bow in the workplace, but it would be nice to stay with C# because it is what I'm used to.

• MMORPG Server architecture: How to handle player input (messages/packets) while the server has to update many other things at the same time?

  Yes, the question is is very difficult. This is more or less like what I'm thinking up to now: while(true) { if (hasMessage) { handleTheMessage(); } } But while I'm receiving the player's input, I also have objects that need to be updated or, of course, monsters walking (which need to have their locations updated on the game client everytime), among other things. What should I do? Make a thread to handle things that can't be stopped no matter what? Code an "else" in the infinity loop where I update the other things when I don't have player's input to handle? Or even: should I only update the things that at least one player can see? These are just suggestions... I'm really confused about it. If there's a book that covers these things, I'd like to know. It's not that important, but I'm using the Lidgren lib, C# and XNA to code both server and client. Thanks in advance.

  I am setting up a personal website and I would like to be able to share certain files with friends (e.g. photo albums or documents). Of course, each of the files should only be accessible to certain people, for example with a password or a private address. I would like to have a simple system, easy to maintain. I'm quite sure that Wordpress would let me know do something but keeping a Wordpress installation just for sharing a few files per month seems too much work. I am thinking of using the Apache capabilities for folder or file password protecting. Is this the best idea? Or would it be better just to block the directory navigation so that only people with the full path for each of the files can download them? Thanks!

  I find completely contradicting reviews for the VERY same book on amazon and even some book writers are rewarding people for good reviews so basically most of the reviews are totally fake ! You can even figure it out from the reviewer name, which you'll similar to the writer's name and assume that they could actually be from the same country and the reviewer is just being helpful, to the book writer of course ! I can't make my mind for which book I should buy ! I only need a book or two that covers the Java associate and professional topics very well, not just an overview, I need a material that covers everything from A to Z. Even though I've been developing in Java for around 4.5 years but I must not know a detail or two. Would someone kindly shed some light on a good book based on actual experience with the book ?   I have about 6 years exp. in app. development. Not so long ago I had moved to another company and the problem has started. I ready don't know why the last time Im making so many bugs/mistakes. Of course Im testing the functionality before I send message that its "done", but I really don't know why I can't see trivial bugs. Some time it looks like I didnt test anything, but its not true. Ive always had this problems but now its pain in the a.s. My question is very simple, what happened to me ;)? Ok, joke aside. What do you do to avoid simple mistakes? plzzz don't tell me to use TDD.   My name is Sael and I'm 14 years old. Since I was 12 and I got my first computer I instantly go interested in making games. So of course like any other I googled it, got discouraged and forgot about it for a few months. When I was 13 I decided to continue programming, and decided that java would best suit me. Now after a year, I have a basic understanding of java and how it works (it just clicked instantly one day). Anyways, my problem is that I know how I'm going to make a simple game in my head, but as soon as I click that "New Project" button on eclipse, I'm instantly lost and can't figure out where to start. I can't do much without a tutorial beside me since my mind is so dependent on it. So here's the question : what can I do to get past this problem of mine, and have any of you felt like this before? sorry if my English is a bit incorrect, Spanish is my main language* I've made Minecraft mods before

I do love python (after having done some rather simple scripting in Perl for a couple of years) for it's clearness and straightforwardness. Of course there is still room for improvement and topics I haven't touched yet. Still: I feel quite confident about my skills by now but want to keep learning.   Here is what I am trying to achieve: I have a nested OU structure that is about 5 levels deep. OU=Portal,OU=Dev,OU=Apps,OU=Grps,OU=Admin,DC=test,DC=com I am trying to find out if the user has permissions/exists at OU=Portal. Here's a snippet of what I currently have: PrincipalContext domain = new PrincipalContext( ContextType.Domain, "test.com", "OU=Portal,OU=Dev,OU=Apps,OU=Grps,OU=Admin,DC=test,DC=com"); UserPrincipal user = UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity(domain, myusername); PrincipalSearchResult<Principal> group = user.GetAuthorizationGroups(); For some unknown reason, the value user generated from the above code is always null. However, if I were to drop all the OU as follows: PrincipalContext domain = new PrincipalContext( ContextType.Domain, "test.com", "DC=test,DC=com"); UserPrincipal user = UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity(domain, myusername); PrincipalSearchResult<Principal> group = user.GetAuthorizationGroups(); this would work just fine and return me the correct user. I am simply trying to reduce the number of results as opposed to getting everything from AD. Is there anything that I am doing wrong? I've googled for hours and tested various combinations without much luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Dan
