• Can I make controls defined in my markup public instead of protected

  Say I have a web site with a master page and an aspx page. In my ASPX page, I am pointing to my masterpage with the MasterType tag. <%@ MasterType VirtualPath="~/mymasterpage.master" % Say, I've defined a label in the markup of my master page. If you look at the designer code, this label should be something like this. protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label label1; Now in my content page, I would like to reference this label. If I type in this "Master.label1", the complier will complain that the control is inaccessible due to the protection level" and rightly so, as label1 is automatically defined as "protected". My question is, if I define controls in my markup page, is it possible to set these controls as public instead of protected? I do not see an attribute for it. thanks in advance.

  I want to implement a generic method on a generic class which would allow to cast safely, see example: public class Foo<T> : IEnumerable<T> { ... public IEnumerable<R> SafeCast<R>() where T : R { return this.Select(item => (R)item); } } However, the compiler tells me that Foo<T>.SafeCast<R>() does not define parameter 'T'. I understand this message that I cannot specify a constraint on T in the method since it is not defined in the method. But how can I specify an inverse constraint?

• Does C99 guarantee that arrays are contiguous ?

  Following an hot comment thread in another question, I came to debate of what is and what is not defined in C99 standard about C arrays. Basically when I define a 2D array like int a[5][5], does the standard C99 garantee or not that it will be a contiguous block of ints, can I cast it to (int *)a and be sure I will have a valid 1D array of 25 ints. As I understand the standard the above property is implicit in the sizeof definition and in pointer arithmetic, but others seems to disagree and says casting to (int*) the above structure give an undefined behavior (even if they agree that all existing implementations actually allocate contiguous values). More specifically, if we think an implementation that would instrument arrays to check array boundaries for all dimensions and return some kind of error when accessing 1D array, or does not give correct access to elements above 1st row. Could such implementation be standard compilant ? And in this case what parts of the C99 standard are relevant.

I think it is because that the table above it is taking the all the features and not using them. So is there a way to define which table to use like using a ID ?   In Java, I define an abstract class with both concrete and abstract methods in it, and it has to be subclassed independently by third-party developers. Just to be sure: are there any changes I could make to the abstract class that are source compatible with their classes but not binary compatible? In other words: after they have compiled their subclasses, could I change the abstract class - apart from e.g. adding an abstract method to it or removing a protected method from it that is called by subclasses, which are of course source incompatible - in a way that could force them to recompile their subclasses?

  Hi, I have extended IEditorInput class to define my own IEditorInput object. Furthermore, I have extended FormEditor class. I have view where I am displaying my application objects. Whenever user double clicks on items on view, I intend to display more details for this application object on the editor, which is a FormEditor. Problem I am facing is that I am receiving IEditorInput object as NULL inside extended FormEditor class. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?   Suppose we have a DAG with edges labeled with numbers. Define the value of a path as the product of the labels. For each (source,sink)-pair I want to find the sum of the values of all the paths from source to sink. You can do this in polynomial time with dynamic programming, but there are still some choices that can be made in how you decompose the problem. In my case I have one DAG that has to be evaluated repeatedly with different labelings. My question is: for a given DAG, how can we pre-compute a good strategy for computing these values for different labelings repeatedly. It would be nice if there was an algorithm that finds an optimal way, for example a way that minimizes the number of multiplications. But perhaps this is too much to ask, I would be very happy with an algorithm that just gives a good decomposition.

  I am working on an MVC app in Sencha Touch 2 and am having trouble getting a list to display in a nested panel. The structure of the app has a main view which is a tab panel. One of the items in the tab panel is a defined panel, xtype: 'homepanel'. An item in this panel is the list, xtype: 'newslist' that is linked to the appropriate store and model files. The list does not display unless I change its parent 'homepanel' to a type, Ext.navigation.View. What am I missing in the definition of 'homepanel' as a Panel that prevents the display of the list?   I have to generate some update statements based off a table in our database. I created the following script which is generating the update statements I need. But when I try to run those scripts I am getting errors pertaining to unescaped single quotes in the content and &B, &T characters which have special meaning in oracle. I took care of the &B and &T problem by setting SET DEFINE OFF. Whats the best way to escape single quotes within the content? • Boost 1.4.0, "assert" identifier not found

  I'm trying to compile an old project that was originally written for linux on windows. It uses boost 1.4.0, and whenever I compile it throws error C3961: "assert" : identifier not found. I'm using Visual Studio 208 SP1 When I drill down into assert.hpp it includes this: # include <assert.h> // .h to support old libraries w/o <cassert> - effect is the same # define BOOST_ASSERT(expr) assert(expr) BOOST_ASSERT is actually what's failing, and VS doesn't seem to recognize assert() even though assert.h is obviously included. As far as I can tell, all the fails are in files that are part of boost, not my own code, but it throws about 1200 of them. Any ideas how to fix this?

  Looking in the android sdk folders, I've found a file called values/config.xml. This seems to be somewhere that you can define values for later use in layouts and animations. Given the config.xml: <resources> <string name="config_somePadding">50dip</string> </resources> How would I reference this to use as the layout_height in a layout xml file? @string/config_somePadding is actually the only one I've found that doesn't throw an error in Eclipse (even though there isn't a config_somePadding in values/strings.xml), but it appears to just put an empty string.

• Running Script before/after Variables declared?

  Hi folks. As i understand javascript .js files are best to put all the way at the bottom of html pages, to speed up loading of rest of page. Advised by Yslow(Yahoo) and Page Speed(google). Now, when in the middle of page some thing RUNS a javascript script, in Internet Explorer, i see a small warning message saying that the element is: Uncaught ReferenceError: SWFObject is not defined When i put my all.js file in the had, the error goes away but page load slows doen. What to do? Actually, i remember it was the same with php variables. If i RUN php but the variable comes later, then it just doesnt work. must define the variable first, for it to run. How to make this workflow better, in case of php scripts? and in case of javsscripts? Thanks!

• Appengine not liking my .jspx files

  I have a little app that runs fine on local dev appengine, but appengine itself is not processing my .jspx files. The jspx files are in WEB-INF so they should not be excluded by appengine (as a static resource) I am using Apache Tiles to define my views. • emacs indentation in asm mode

  I am looking for the equivalent of c-indent-level and ruby-indent-level, for asm-mode. That is, I want to force the indentation to 4 spaces, and I want them to be replaced with blanks. What I've seen tells me it does not exist for asm-mode. Could someone please tell me this is wrong? I tried this also: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/69934/set-4-space-indent-in-emacs-in-text-mode , to no av. I have tried: (setq tab-width 4) (setq indent-line-function 'insert-tab) (setq asm-indent-level 4) This works however: (custom-set-variables '(tab-stop-list (quote (4 8 12 16 20 24 28 32 36 40 44 48 52 56 60 64 68 72 76 80 84 88 92 96 100 104 108 112 116 120)))) But I wonder if there is a way to define that for asm-mode only. What if I wanted to keep the default tab behaviour for other modes?

• creating a Menu from SQLite values in Java

  I am trying to create a ListMenu using data from an SQLite database to define the name of each MenuItem. So in a class called menu.java I have defined the array String classes [] = {}; which should hold each menu item name. In a DBAdapter class I created a function so the user can insert info to a table (This all works fine btw). public long insertContact(String name, String code, String location, String comments, int days, int start, int end, String type) { ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues(); initialValues.put(KEY_NAME, name); initialValues.put(KEY_CODE, code); initialValues.put(KEY_LOCATION, location); initialValues.put(KEY_COMMENTS, comments); initialValues.put(KEY_DAYS, days); initialValues.put(KEY_START, start); initialValues.put(KEY_END, end); initialValues.put(KEY_TYPE, type); return db.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, initialValues); } It would be the Strings inserted into KEY_NAME that I need to populate that String array with. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks so much for the help guys. If I implement that function by Sam/Mango the program crashes, am I using it incorrectly or is the error due to the unknown size of the array? DBAdapter db = new DBAdapter(this); String classes [] = db.getClasses(); edit: I should mention that if I manually define the array: String classes [] = {"test1", "test2", "test3", etc}; It works fine.   I have created a WCF service and hosted it using Windows Services host. To install the project I created an installation project (as described here). In the tutorial, it says to define in the ProjectInstaller.cs the serviceProcessInstaller1 Account property to be Network Service. When using this setting the service did not started on the server. When I tried to start the process manually, it immediately return to stopped state. After when I changed the Account to LocalSystem the service works properly. My questions are: Any ideas why it won't work with Network Service account? What are the security implications of using a server with LocalSystem account? This server is used locally in the intranet as a reporting server for other servers.
