• Do web crawlers/spiders index azure web sites?

  For somebody who wants their web site to be as discoverable as possible (and who doesn't?), are Microsoft's Azure web sites (azurewebsites.net) a feasible domain to host sites? I have a site that is both on an azurewebsites.net and hosted under a completely different name by discountasp.net Both of these sites are exactly the same, except for the URL; whenever I update the code, I republish the site to/in both places. So obviosuly, they both have the same H1 and H2 elements. Searching for the value/content in my H1 tag, I find my .com site listed #3 on google and #2 on both Bing and Yahoo; OTOH, my azurewebsites.net site doesn't show up on the first page at all, in any of them. This makes me wonder if azurewebsites.net should only be used for Web API hosting and such-like, not for generic/commercial "public" sites. Are my conclusions valid?

• Google search does not show sub-pages from my website

  My website appears in Google search, but only the first page. Of course I have sub-pages linked from the first page, but the sub-pages do not show in Google search. Not in Yahoo, not in Bing. What should I do? It has been three years that sub-pages do not show. (I tried searching site:mydomain.com and pressed 'repeat the search with the omitted results included' link) What would you suspect the reason? My website addresses were like xxx.php?yy=zzz etc, etc, so I changed it to /yy/zzz using mod_rewrite. I thought it might be (X)HTML standard violations, so now I changed it. I hope Google will soon have my entire website, but I am a little bit pessimistic. Do you have any thought?

But now, I'm searching for good physics for the player, I'm trying to emulate characters from other games like Mario from Super Mario World, or MegaMan X... do you know a website or something, where the physics from that games are revealed? • 301 Redirects for regional variants of a homepage

  I am planning on implementing a website which has regional homepage variants. For Example: mycompany.com/europe mycompany.com/us The rest of the site is region agnostic and content will continue such as: mycompany.com/news mycompany.com/about-us etc For homepage (.com) requests, I plan on redirecting users to the correct homepage variant (via 301). If I cannot determine the correct one, I will fallback to redirecting them to the US homepage (/us). From an SEO point of view, firstly is this ok? or should I be doing anything additional to this for making search engines aware of the regional differences? As crawlers are region agnostic, I plan on directing them to the US page with a 301, or should I have something on the .com page which they use? Being that the regional homepage's will likely be the most visited pages, they should show up in result sitelinks when searching for mycompany (which I think is a good thing). Apologies for the slightly open question - I know anything SEO related is more opinion/best practice than fact but am purely looking for advice.

• Authentication for users on a Single Page App?

  I have developed a single page app prototype that is using Backbone on the front end and going to consume from a thin RESTful API on the server for it's data. Coming from heavy server side application development (php and python), I have really enjoyed the new different design approach with a thick client side MVC but am confused on how best to restrict the app to authenticated users who log in. I prefer to have the app itself behind a login and would also like to implement other types of logins eventually (openid, fb connect, etc) in addition to the site's native login. I am unclear how this is done and have been searching - but unsuccessful in finding information that made it clear to me. In the big picture, what is the current best practice for registering users and requiring them to login to use your single page app? Once a user is logged in, how are the api requests authenticated? Can I store a session but how do I detect for this session in the API calls? Any answers to this would be much appreciated!

• How to make Firefox windows style less space consuming?

  Firefox takes up so much space on small screens, so I'm searching for solutions that make firefox' interface less space consuming on ubuntu 12.04 with gnome3. Good examples are the chromium-style, but chromium is kind of slow in gnome3. Chromium does it, firefox on osx does it. Is this also possible on ubuntu via a custom modification or something?   I get the following error when trying to sign up for the Azure 90-day free trial: We can't authorize the payment method. Please make sure the information is correct, or use another payment method. If you continue to get this message, please contact your financial institution. I've tried three different cards, two credit and one debit. Those cards are issued from two different banks. I've also tried the cards on two separate accounts. Someone from my work also confirmed that he could not sign up for the free trial either. Has anyone else had this problem? I haven't really seen much help searching Google and the support staff doesn't seem interested in helping people sign up for free accounts.

• How do I shutdown 12.10 when ACPI is set to OFF?

  I recently installed 12.04 on an HP Spectre XT ultrabook. I installed 12.04 from a USB. When the install was complete, and the computer restarted, I got a blank screen. After some searching, I found that I had to choose "acpi=off" during the installation, which now shows up in the grub screen. Once I was on 12.04, I upgraded to 12.10. The issue now is that when I hit shutdown, the computer hangs on a purple shutdown screen. Usually, at this point, I press the power button on the machine to completely power off the machine. I am new to ubuntu, and would appreciate the help. Thanks.

  Use Case: Photos are organised in a folder structure by date (by software lightroom/picasa) Want to run a local webserver to host a web gallery from (already know how to run lamp etc) I want to be able to attach metadata to the photos (probably through a database not residing in the photos folder) such that they can be tagged/categoried/albumed without affecting the original photos I want to be able to assign permissions to different albums to set users I want the software to watch the photo source folder for changes so that new photos are indexed ready for applying metadata and albums. I'd like the software to handle the rendering of numerous file types (photo formats) as well as video formatts I am language agnostic so php/python heck even c#, just want software that forfills the requirements. • Why is Cocoa using an old version of Unicode? [closed]

  While I was searching for something in the Apple docs, I stumble on this: illegalCharacterSet Returns a character set containing values in the category of Non-Characters or that have not yet been defined in version 3.2 of the Unicode standard. On the Unicode website, I find that the latest version is 6.1.0. That's a lot of major versions higher than what Cocoa supports. Does somebody know why Apple doesn't upgrade their framework? My more important question is: Are there problems for not doing having support for Unicode 3.2+? Will I have problems reading Unicode files created on other systems with a more recent version of Unicode?

• Business not showing up on right hand side of google search

  The business I work has currently has a verified business Google+ page and in the past this page has shown up as a thumbnail during Google searches. The thumbnail brings up basic information such as our picture and operating hours etc. However, since verifying the business page, the thumbnail overview of our business does not seem to show up anymore. I have tried Google searching our business on several computers and it still just brings up the normal search results. Is there a setting I need to activate in order for the thumbnail to appear? No files were undeleted. why it can't recover? Anyone can help me to return my Desktop, Documents and etc? I have ubuntu 14.04.

• Configuration of the network manager via DBus: how to set the ad hoc mode

  I have an hard nut to crack: a nice bottle of italian Chianti wine to the solver! :) To automatically configure Wifi, I first have to kill the network manager and than activate the wifi via the commandline: I do this all automatically in my application and works great. However... it is not the right way to do this. As the user has no network gui anymore to configure some other network access. A much better and transparent way would be to configure wifi directly via network manager over the DBus interface. I was able to configure it, but I wasn't able to set it to ad hoc mode... Searching the web for a while: a lot about configuration in general but nothing related to ad hoc mode. I think the only way to do figure that out is to look into the source code of the network manager...maybe someone already did it and he can answer.

• Google Places seo?

  Im familiar with seo and getting higher google listings but for allot of services google has recently been making there search results (were applicable) much more location orientated.. for instance searching for a "accountant in london" or "accountancy firm london" will through return the first half of page 1 as google places listings, then under about 6 of these you will get your normal search results so somone who used to rank #1 on page 1 now will rank effectily #7. What i was wandering is that i cant see any reasons as to why the company that rank high in the places results get there, often they are not high up in the search results. Is there a way to optimise on or offsite to rise up the google places listings in your city ?

• Any way to set up a grid for a board game in cocos 2d?

  My first idea was to create a 2d array for my columns and rows, but it seems like there should be a better, or possibly cleaner, way to achieve this. Each square on the grid is going to have a background image, probably a .png although I might just draw the images with a draw method. Basically, I want to be able to drag and drop images onto the individual grid squares. I've been searching for a solution and the closest thing I can find is the tiled map solution. That just seems like a little overkill for what I'm trying to accomplish. Also, I don't know if this helps but i need my grid to be 12 by 12 and take up the entire width of the iphone screen.

  If you're like me you had at one time connected one of your Reporting Services instances to a report server database that was already in use by another instance.  This allows the instance to show up in the Scale-out Deployment section of the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.  My problem was that the server that got joined to the original server was no longer available as it had been repurposed, and when I clicked Remove Server to remove it from my scale-out it would fail because it couldn't contact the server.  After searching for a solution for quite some time I decided to look around in the report server database tables, and voila!  All I had to do was remove the old server from the Keys table.  I can't guarantee there won't be any side effects to this method, but it worked like a charm for me.

  I have a ubuntu 11.10 cd which I burned. And when I try to install Ubuntu I come all the way until it tells me to format partitions / choose partitions. And it can't see ANY partition at all. I have Windows 7 at the moment. I really don't know what the problem is, I've been googling it and searching the forums but no luck. I tried to install with WUBI and rebooted it. And when I was in "ubuntu", at the desktop in ubuntu a error came up telling me to choose a partition. I have no clue what the the problem is... My computer is a Packard Bell model ixtreme m5150 and I don't know what motherboard I have unfortunately. I didn't build it. Please help me.

  I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 with Ubuntu 12.04 and its wifi suddenly stopped working!! I've never seen like that before.. I tried also using external USB wifis but no success. I am not able to turn it on with the function keys nor using rfkill commands and similar WLAN manipulator Commands in the terminal! It was working before for at least 4-5 months!! The computer says it's turned off by hardware. I checked it and the Driver is fine. So why can i not use any Wifi on my computer?? Why it is suddenly disabled? I checked the BIOS too there is enabled the WLAN. I spent 10 hours for searching for solutions but i am out of ideas!!! Please Help!
