• How to implement checkout/basket system

  Hi, I'm making an app for fun and would like to know how to implement a checkout/basket system on the app. Basically, a list of products is pulled in from a web server in form of XML file, which is then displayed in a UITableView controller. A tap on the cell takes the user to a more detailed overview of the product. The app would need to be able to get the product into a basket type thing, and this is where I'm getting stuck. Are there any code samples that I could take a look at?

• Cannot Extend Django 1.2.1 Admin Template

  I am attempting to override/extend the header for the Django admin in version 1.2.1. However when I try to extend the admin template and simply change what I need documented here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/admin/#overriding-vs-replacing-an-admin-template), I run into a recursion problem. I have an index.html file in my project's templates/admin/ directory that starts with {% extends "admin/index.html" %} But it seems that this is referencing the local index file (a.k.a. itself) rather than the default Django copy. I want to extend the default Django template and simply change a few blocks. When I try this file, I get a recursion depth error. How can I extend parts of the admin? Thanks.

• Problems with contenttypes when loading a fixture in Django

  I am having trouble loading Django fixtures into my MySQL database because of contenttypes conflicts. First I tried dumping the data from only my app like this: ./manage.py dumpdata escola > fixture.json but I kept getting missing foreign key problems, because my app "escola" uses tables from other applications. I kept adding additional apps until I got to this: ./manage.py dumpdata contenttypes auth escola > fixture.json Now the problem is the following constraint violation when I try to load the data as a test fixture: IntegrityError: (1062, "Duplicate entry 'escola-t23aluno' for key 2") It seems the problem is that Django is trying to dynamically recreate contenttypes with different primary key values that conflict with the primary key values from the fixture. This appears to be the same as bug documented here: http://code.djangoproject.com/ticket/7052 The problem is that the recommended workaround is to dump the contenttypes app which I'm already doing!? What gives? If it makes any difference I do have some custom model permissions as documented here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/models/options/#permissions

This syntax only seems to initialize a 1d array as print "$frame_events[1]\n" works. Though perl doesn't give any error during the assignment.

  I'm playing around with building a new web application using DB4O - piles of fun and some really interesting stuff learned. The one thing I'm struggling with is DB4O's current lack of support for stateless applications (i.e. web apps, mostly) and the need for automatically-generated IDs. There are a number of creative and interesting approaches that I've been able to find that hook into DB4O's events, use GUIDs rather than numeric IDs or for whatever reason avoid using any system of ID at all. While each approach has its merits, I'm wondering if the less-elegant approach might equally be the best fit.   EDIT: i just deleted the entire post and reformulated the question to be more generic. I want to do a simple strategy game: map, units. Map: one class. Units: another class, self drawn. Simple questions: How does an unit should redraw itself on the map. A unit should be a JPanel or similar Swing component (just to be able to manage them as an entity with its own mousehandlers) or can be another thing, without neglecting the fact that it should be an autonomous object with its own action handlers and fields.   This is more of a thought i had awhile rather than an actual problem to solve, maybe more a discussion, but i was wondering if it would be possible to design the game of solitaire and be abkle to play it in the python GUI or some other form of iterface? I know you can get a deck of cards fairly easily and i know yuo can play simple games like snap and so on but i thought solitaire would be more challenging and fun because there is alot more logic behind it than just laying out the cards randomly. Any ideas? (I would be intrested to hear about or see any solutions if anyone had any links etc..)

  Sometimes I want to build Python or GCC from scratch just for fun, but I can't parse the errors I get, or don't understand statements like "libtool link error # XYZ". What are some tricks that unix/systems gurus use to compile software of this size from scratch? Of course I already do things like read config.log (if there is one), google around, and post in newsgroups. I'm looking for things that either make the process go smoother or get me more information about the error to help me understand and fix it. It's a little tough to get this information sometimes, because some compile bugs can be quite obscure. What can I do at that point?

I have used various email scripts (dynaform,phpmailer, etc), and have experienced a ton of problems. So here is the site I am working on: Contact On the Right.   I'm considering remaking my blog(currently in PHP, but <100 lines of non-layout code) in Ruby on Rails just for the fun of it. I want to make another project in Rails, but I should learn Rails(more than hello world) before I go to try to create a full project. Another thing I want to do while remaking my blog is to at least figure out what TDD is all about. So how would you go about taking a Test Driven approach to the creation of a blog? What tests would you write? How would you begin? Everytime I visualize writing a blog it'd end up needing a million tests for a single component to fully test it. How do I avoid writing too many tests? Also, I am making this community wiki because I intend for this to basically be made into a mini tutorial/knowledge base...

  Hi there, I'm fairly new to Objective C and Core Data and have a problem designing a case where players team up one-on-one and have multiple matches that end up with a specific result. With MySQL, I would have a Player table (player primary key, name) and a match table (player A foreign key, player B foreign key, result). Now how do I do this with Core Data? I can easily tie a player entity to a match entity using a relationship. But how do I model the inverse direction for the second player ref. in the match entity? Player Name: Attribute Match: Relationship Match Match Result: Attribute PlayerA: Relationship to Player (<- Inverse to Player.Match) PlayerB: Relationship to Player (<- Inverse to ????)   In my experience Meta-templates are really fun (when your compilers are compliant), and can give good performance boosts, and luckily I'm surrounded by seasoned C++ programmers that also grok meta-templates, however occasionally a new developer arrives and can't make heads or tails of some of the meta-template tricks we use (mostly Andrei Alenxandrescu stuff), for a few weeks until he gets initiated appropriately. So I was wondering what's the situation for other C++ programmers out there? Should meta-template programming be something C++ programmers should be "required" to know (excluding entry level students of course), or not? • How to center an R plot

  I'm working on visualizing a matrix in R (almost exactly like http://reference.wolfram.com/mathematica/ref/MatrixPlot.html), and I've been using image(<matrix>,axes=FALSE) to draw the picture. However, I noticed that with the y-axis turned off, the plot isn't centered--the space is still there for the axis ticks + label. I can finagle some centering with par(oma=c(0,0,0,2.5)) but this seems inefficient and error-prone (if my matrix were to change dimensions/become non-square). Is there a better way to force the graphic to center? The right hand margin is significantly smaller than the left.

  When I interview developers for jobs I'm really astonished by their lack of economics consciousness. It seems they think they'll be recruited just for technological fun. When you ask them for technical solutions they would just follow hypes from software editors without consideration for the economics part. I have rejected 80% of candidates just for that kind of reason. I don't know if other recruiters ask economics questions, but as for me that is one of the main criterias. That is why I prefer to enquiry by myself on technical questions because I just don't trust the geeks choice. So did you learn economics at school ? At mine yes and that did serve me.

  I'm totally new to SharePoint but my company has adopted it for internal use. As a learning exercise I thought it would be fun to create a local restaurant review site. Can anyone point me to an example or tutorial to get me started? What I have in mind is a simple site where users can enter the restaurant name, cuisine style, address, a simple 5 point rating and price scale, and a short review.   I'm trying to have some fun with fluxus, but its manual and online docs all seem to assume that the reader is already an expert network programmer who's never heard of Scheme before. Consequently, you get passages that try to explain the very basics of prefix notation, but assume that you know how to pipe sound-card data into the program, or setup and connect to an OSC process. Is there any tutorial out there that goes the opposite way? IE, assumes that you already have a handle on the Lisp/Scheme thing, but need some pointers before you can properly set up sound sources or an OSC server? Barring that, does anyone know how to get (for example) the system microphone to connect to (fluxus), or how to get it to play a sound file from disk?

• Good Perlin noise resources/implementation?

  Are there any good resources out there detailing Perlin noise generation? I understand that most languages have noise generating libraries available, but I'm interested in creating my own for fun/experience. I've already looked at this, which seems pretty popular, but it only gives an in-depth explanation of one dimensional noise. Google searches have been relatively unhelpful so far, as most of them focus on applications instead of how to create a generator. Books and/or websites are welcome, even if their focus is not the generation itself so long as it gives a thorough explanation of an implementation, or at least the concepts involved so I can "discover" my own.
