  • Object sent -autorelease too many times

    - by mongeta
I have this code that simple returns Today's date as a string formatted: +(NSString*) getTodayString_YYYY_MM_DD { NSDate * today = [NSDate date]; NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [formatter setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd"]; return [[formatter stringFromDate:today] autorelease]; } With instruments I'm not getting a memory leak, but when I Analyze, XCode says: Object sent -autorelease too many times If I understand correctly, I have to release manually the formatter as I'm creating it using 'alloc', but I can't release here because I have to return the value, so I add the autorelease. How I can do it better to improve it ? thanks, r.

  • Does NSKeyedUnarchiver autorelease?

    - by Lee Probert
I'm doing some archiving to a property list and when I unarchive my data using NSKeyedUnarchiver I find that my app crashes if I release the object afterward. I was wondering if the finishDecoding message also autoreleases the object. Seems weird that it crashes when I release it.

  • NSString potencial leak

    - by VansFannel
Hello. When I build and analyze my project on XCode, I obtain a 'warning' on the following line: NSString *contactEmail = (NSString *)ABMultiValueCopyValueAtIndex(emailInfo, 0); The message is: Potencial leak on object allocated on line ... and stored into contactEmail. Is there any error on that line?

  • How to convert Unicode strings (\u00e2, etc) into NSString for display?

    - by karlbecker_com
I am trying to support arbitrary unicode from a variety of international users. They have already put a bunch of data into sqlite databases on their iPhones, and now I want to capture the data into a database, then send it back to their device. Right now I am using a php page that is sending data back to from an internet mysql database. The data is saved in the mysql database properly, but when it's sent back it comes out as unicode text, such as Frank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s iPad instead of just Frank's iPad where the apostrophe should really be a curly apostrophe. The answer posted to another question indicates that there is no built-in Cocoa methods to convert the "\u00e2\u0080\u0099" portion of the unicode string from the webserver to an NSString object. Is this correct? That seems really surprising (and scarily disappointing), since Cocoa definitely allows input from many different Unicode characters, and I need to support any arbitrary language that I have never heard of, and all of the possible characters. I save them to and from the local sqlite database just fine now, but once I send it to a web server, then perhaps pull down different data, I want to ensure the data pulled from the web server is correctly formatted.

  • How to upload contents of a file to a UITextView?

    - by Mike Rychev
Hello! I have about twenty UITextViews and corresponding .txt files. What I want is to make each UITextView take the contents of the corresponding file and display it. Moreover, the text is formatted and it contains some formulas (copy/pasted from Grapher). I've heard about displaying formatted text in UIWebView, but I haven't found a clear explanation anywhere. Thanks in advance!

  • Object in Array is not recognised as having "methods"

    - by kevin Mendoza
I got my application working Awhile back, but after completely and accidentally deleting it, I have tried to create it from square one. unfortunately my rewritten program is a bit cranky; does anyone see or know the possible sources of error? Also, my if statements are acting up. -(void)loadAnnotations { CLLocationCoordinate2D workingCoordinate; iProspectLiteAppDelegate *appDelegate = (iProspectLiteAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSMutableArray *mines =[[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:(NSMutableArray *) appDelegate.mines]; BOOL gold = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] boolForKey:@"goldControl"]; BOOL silver = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] boolForKey:@"silverControl"]; BOOL copper = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] boolForKey:@"copperControl"]; for(id mine in mines) { NSLog(@"in the loop"); workingCoordinate.latitude = [[mine latitudeInitial] doubleValue]; workingCoordinate.longitude = [[mine longitudeInitial] doubleValue]; iProspectLiteAnnotation *tempMine = [[iProspectLiteAnnotation alloc] initWithCoordinate:workingCoordinate]; [tempMine setTite:[mine mineName]]; if ([[mine commodity] isEqualToString:@"Gold"] && [gold == YES]) { [tempMine setAnnotationType:iProspectLiteAnnotationTypeGold]; [mapView addAnnotation:tempMine]; } if([[mine commodity] isEqualToString:@"Silver"] && [silver == YES]) { [tempMine setAnnotationType:iProspectLiteAnnotationTypeSilver]; } if([[mine commodity] isEqualToString:@"Copper"] && [copper == YES]) { [tempMine setAnnotationType:iProspectLiteAnnotationTypeCopper]; } } [mines dealloc]; } where the workingCoordinate.latitude = [[mine latitudeInitial] doubleValue], as well as the longitude, and [mine mineName],it says " No '-latitudeInitiallongitudeInitial' method found" or the mineName/LongitudeInitial. also, it complains about : before ] at all the if statement lines. I don't see any errors, do you?

  • iPhone: Strange Movement of Two UIImageView "Sprites"

    - by David Pollak
    I have two UIImageViews moving like sprites on a superview. Each imageview moves properly by itself but when I put both imageviews on the superview at the same time, their individual movement becomes strangely restricted to two different areas of the screen. They will not touch even programmed to the same coordinates. This is my movement code for the first imageView: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; pos = CGPointMake(14.0, 7.0); [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.05 target:self selector:@selector(onTimer) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } - (void) onTimer { pallone.center = CGPointMake(pallone.center.x+pos.x, pallone.center.y+pos.y); if(pallone.center.x > 320 || pallone.center.x < 0) pos.x = -pos.x; if(pallone.center.y > 480 || pallone.center.y < 0) pos.y = -pos.y; } and for the second imageview: - (IBAction)spara{ cos = CGPointMake(8.0, 4.0); [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.05 target:self selector:@selector(inTimer) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } - (void)inTimer{ bomba.center = CGPointMake(bomba.center.x+pos.x, bomba.center.y+pos.y); if(bomba.center.x > 50 || bomba.center.x < 0) pos.x = -pos.x; if(bomba.center.y > 480 || bomba.center.y < 0) pos.y = -pos.y; } Why causes this strange behavior? Thanks for your help. I am a newbie.

  • Calculating driving distance in iPhone

    - by Prasanna
Hi, I need to find the driving distance between 2 locations. I do not need to display the directions in a map, just need to calculate the distance, which I need to use in my application. Does MapKit allow this? Is there an alternative that can be used? I am able to get forward geo-coding using CloudMade, but there doesn't seem to be an option to obtain driving distance. Appreciate any help.

  • iOS equivalent to MacOS NSAttributedString initWithRTF

    - by trekme
What is an iOS equivalent to MacOS NSAttributedString initWithRTF ? The Application Kit extends Foundation’s NSAttributedString class by adding support for RTF, RTFD, and HTML (with or without attachments), graphics attributes (including font and ruler attributes), methods for drawing attributed strings, and methods for calculating significant linguistic units. - (id)initWithRTF:(NSData *)rtfData documentAttributes:(NSDictionary **)docAttributes I need to process a short stream of RTF data in an iOS application. Thank you!

  • UITableView setting standalone delegate object?

    - by fuzzygoat
Hi have setup a sample application using a UITableView. Initially I did this by conforming my controller to and , added a tableView in IB and connected "datasource" & "delegate" to Files Owner. It all works so thats good. What I have been trying out is creating my own class for the delegate. I created a new class and added and , but quickly found I could not connect the tableViewdataSource / delegate. To solve this I added an "Object" (NSObject) in IB and set it to my new class. I then connected the dataSource and delegate outlets to this object. It sort of works, the app runs and displays the tableView, but when I try and scroll the table the app crashes. Can I ask if I am going about this the right way? gary

  • Where to #include?

    - by fuzzygoat
In my past applications I have been #importing into my *.h files where needed. I have not really thought much about this before as I have not had any problems, but today I spotted something that got me to thinking that maybe I should be #import-ing into my .m files and using @class where needed in the headers (.h) Can anyone shine any light on the way its supposed to be done or best practice? gary

  • UIButton only responds in a small area

    - by Tom Irving
I'm trying to add a UIButton to a UIView, but am having some trouble with getting it to respond to touches. I have a method which returns UIButtons after I provide it with a tag: - (UIButton*)niceSizeButtonWithTag:(int)tag { UIButton * aButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; [aButton setTag:tag]; [aButton addTarget:self action:@selector(buttonWasTapped:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; CGRect newFrame = aButton.frame; newFrame.size.width = 44; newFrame.size.height = 44; [aButton setFrame:newFrame]; return aButton; } As you can see I'm creating a new button and increasing the size. I use this in the following way: UIButton * anotherButton = [self niceSizeButtonWithTag:1]; [anotherButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"image" withExtension:@"png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [anotherButton setCenter:CGPointMake(middleOfView)]; [aView addSubview:anotherButton]; I create a lot of buttons like this, hence the reason for the method. The buttons are always created and added to the subview perfectly. I can see the image and they're in the correct position. The problem is that they only respond to touches in a tiny strip. In this attached image, The yellow shows the whole frame of the button, The red shows the area that will respond to touches. The grey shows a section of the view the button is added to. If anyone could shed some light on why this is happening, it would be really useful.

  • IPhone Objectvie C

    - by Sea
I am trying to determine if a UILabel was touched and if so do something. Give .. . . . UILabel * site = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 185, 320, 30)]; site.text = [retriever.plistDict valueForKey:@"url"]; site.textAlignment =UITextAlignmentCenter; site.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; site.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; site.userInteractionEnabled = YES; [theBgView addSubview:site]; [site release]; . . . Then I write the callback. - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event{ retriever = [PListRetriever sharedInstance]; CGPoint pt = [[touches anyObject] locationInView: self]; NSURL *target = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:[retriever.plistDict valueForKey:@"url"]]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:target]; } The problem is right now, no matter where I touch in the View the Url is being opened. How do I determine if only just my label was touched?

  • Comparing against NSLocalizedString safe?

    - by George
Hi, Sometimes I need to compare interface elements to other objects. At the moment I'm doing it by comparing their titles against a localized string. Am I right that I better compare my objects against IBOutlets? Tags are out of the question because I'm using NSMenu.

  • How to convert code to properly release memory

    - by BankStrong
I've taken over a code base that has subtle flaws - audio player goes mute, unlogged crashes, odd behavior, etc. I found a way to provoke one instance of the problem and tracked it to this code snippet: NSURL *soundURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:[[soundsToPlay objectAtIndex:count] description] ofType:@"mp3"]]; self.audioPlayer = nil; self.audioPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:soundURL error:nil]; self.audioPlayer.delegate = self; AudioSessionSetActive(YES); [audioPlayer play]; When I comment out the 2nd line (nil) and add a release to the end, this problem stops. [self.audioPlayer release]; Where do I go from here? Nils are used in a similar fashion throughout the code (and may cause similar problems) - is there a safe way to remove them? I'm new to memory management - how can I discern proper nil usage from bad nil usage?

  • IPhone memory problems...

    - by jAmi
Hi, I am working on an App that is already been made but Memory Management was not considered in the development stages. So what can I do to keep the App memory usage low as soon as I get a memory warning? Is there any general tool or some piece of code that I can use to release any unused memory?
