  • Delegate methods of NSTextField using NSNotification

    I have an NSTokenField in a window. I am using it to store tags related to a Core Data object. Right now I have it set up such that I can add tags to the objects, but I cannot delete them. I need a delegate method on the NSTokenField that can let me know when the user has moved the focus out of the NSTokenField. Since NSTokenField is a subclass of NSTextField I figured that I could use its delegate methods. It has two that I think could be useful: - (void)textDidChange:(NSNotification *)aNotification - (void)textDidEndEditing:(NSNotification *)aNotification I set my controller class as the delegate of my NSTokenField and put both of these methods into my controller class. I put a basic NSLog into each of them and neither is triggered when I interact with the NSTokenField. I am guessing it has something to do with NSNotification. How do I activate these methods?

  • Subclass not seeing superclass' instance variable

    I have a situation where my subclass is not seeing the superclass' instance variable x. The ivar is obviously @protected by default, so why do I get a compiler error "x undeclared"? If I make this ivar a property then I can access it by self.x. What's worse is sometimes the error disappears, so something in my code is obviously causing this error but I cannot figure it out.

  • Selection on table view causes parent view to change

    Hi there, I'm working on an iPad app and here's my scenario: I have a view which contains a table view inside of it. When the user selects an item on the table view, I would like the parent's view to change in a navigational manner. For those of you that have an iPad, this would be akin to the "Settings" app. But I guess in the "Settings" app, the right pane is composed of a grouped table view right?   • NSMutableArray: count is a method or a property?

    I want to verify if I'm in the last cell of the UITable. Should I use a NSInteger property in my controller and store the value of the count of the data (it's an NSMutableArray) that populates the table? I'm asking because I don't know if count iterates over all objects of the array to count or if it only gets me a value of a count property.     Is it an error to call dealloc on a UIViewController from a background thread? It seems that UITextView (can?) eventually call _WebTryThreadLock which results in: bool _WebTryThreadLock(bool): Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread. Background: I have a subclassed NSOperation that takes a selector and a target object to notify. -(id)initWithTarget:(id)target { if (self = [super init]) { _target = [target retain]; } return self; } -(void)dealloc { [_target release]; [super dealloc]; } If the UIViewController has already been dismissed when the NSOperation gets around to running, then the call to release triggers it's dealloc on a background thread.

  • Location of my own directories

    Hello, I am trying to understand how to create my own directory tree and access it from my application. I am doing some kind of learning program and want to create a directory structure like this: -MyLessonsDirectory --LessonDirectory_1 ---Step_1 ---Step_2 ---Step_3 --LessonDirectory_2 ---Step_1 ---Step_2 ---Step_3 . . and so on In each "Step"-directory I will have specific content for that step of the lesson. The content is added by me while developing. Hence, I don't want to create the structure and content from within the application, just access it and reading the content of the directories. If I can create this kind of structure and use it it will be very easy to create a nice design that makes it easy to create new lessons in my app. What I cannot figure out is where I should create those directories in the file-structure in xCode and what is the path to those directories from my application.   • UIButtons creating a native-like keyboard behavior.

    Greets. A somehow detailed explanation on my problem, and what I have already done, and what I cannot do. I want to create a behavior resembling the one in the iPhone's keyboard. Basically, I want a view to appear when the user taps a button and WHILE the user taps that button. This, I accomplished. When the user lets go of the button WHILE his finger is on that button's area, I want to trigger an action "doing stuff". This, I was also able to do. Since all the buttons are near (like in the keyboard) and I don't want the user to select other button than the one he pressed, I reduced the hit area for the button using the -(BOOL)pointInside:(CGPoint)point withEvent:(UIEvent )event function. When the user presses the button, not lifting its finger, and dragging outside the button area, I want another action to trigger. This is the first problem... This function only triggers when the user's finger is far from the buttons' area, and this time the pointInside function is not being my friend. How can I detect the user finger "left" the button area the moment it exits its bounds? This, in case you didn't realize... was problem 1. The second problem is related with the drag enter. Again, I need to limit the area like in the drag exit. But I suppose that when I solve one of these, the other is the same. The problem is that in order to have a behavior like in the keyboard, I may need to detect the user started the touch in another button, never lifted his finger, and changed to another button. I can detect drag enter and drag exit IN THIS ORDER while on the same button. I cannot detect drag enter when the user first touched anywhere else other than the button where I want to detect the drag enter event. Basically what I need is to detect touch on any button (and not anywhere else in the view), and while the user is changing buttons without lifting the finger, I want to detect the new button being touched. This gigantic paragraph was problem #2. Any help, as you might guess, is highly appreciated. Best Regards. Thanks a lot!

    I am working on an app that is not core data based - the data feed is a series of web services. Two arrays are created from the data feed. The first holds season data, each array object being an NSDictionary. Two of the NSDictionary entries hold the data to be displayed in the popup ('seasonName') and an id ('seasonID') that acts as a pointer (in an external table) by matches defined for that season. The second array is also a collection of NSDictionaries. Two of the entries hold the data to be displayed in the popup ('matchDescription') and the id ('matchSeasonId') that points to the seasonId defined in the NSDictionaries in first array. I have two NSPopUps. I want the first to display the season names and the second to display the matches defined for that season, depending on the selection in the first. I'm new at bindings, so excuse me if I've missed something obvious. I've tried using ArrayControllers as follows: SeasonsArrayController: content bound to appDelegate seasonsPopUpArrayData. seasonsPopup: content bound to SeasonsArrayController.arrangedObjects; content value bound to SeasonsArrayController.arrangedObjects.seasonName I see the season names fine. I can obviously follow a similar route to see the matches, but I then see them all, instead of restricting the list to the matches for the season highlighted. All the tutorials I can find seem to revolve around core data and utilise the relationships defined therein. I don't have that luxury here. Any help very gratefully received.

    I know how to change the state of the regular button, as well as change the background color of a regular button. However, what I have is a image lay on top of a button (customized button). I want, when the user click on it, something visually would happen to let the user know that button is selected, and when the user click again it go back to the regular state. I try to change the background of the button, but it doesnt work since the image kind of cover the button. Any idea?

    If you want to modify the default behaviour of a View Controller by changing the value of one of its properties, is it considered better form to instantiate the class and set its property directly, or subclass it and override the property? With the former it would become the parent View Controller's responsibility to configure its children, whereas with the latter the children would effectively configure themselves. EDIT: Some more information: The class I am referring to is FetchedTableViewController, a subclass of UITableViewController that I made to display the results of a Core Data fetch operation. There are two places I want to display the results of a fetch, and they each have different fetch requests. I'm trying to decide whether it's better to create a subclass for each one, and override the fetchRequest property, or make it the responsibility of the parent controller to set the fetchRequest property for its children.

    hey people , I have a question concerning a button I would like to create which selects my previous selected row. This is what I came up so far but since I'm new with the functionality and such I could definately use some pointers I created a toolbar with a button and behind this button is the following action. -(void)clickRow { selectedRow = [self.tableView indexPathForSelectedRow]; [self.tableView:[self tableView] didSelectRowAtIndexPath:selectedRow]; } in my didSelectRowAtIndexPath there is a rootViewController being pushed rvController = [RootViewController alloc] ...etc So what I would like is my function clickRow to select the row and push the new rootviewcontroller (which has the right info since I'm using a tree ).   • Core Data: Overkill for simple, static UITableView-based iPhone App?

    Hello! I have a rather simple iPhone app consisting of numerous views containing a single, grouped table view. These views are held together in navigation controllers which are grouped in a tab bar. Simple stuff. My table views do little more than list text (like "Dog", "Cat" and "Weasel") and this data is being served from a collection of plists. It's perhaps worth mentioning too that these tables are 'static' in the sense that their data is pre-determined and will only ever be amended—and if so, very rarely indeed—by the developer (in this case, moi). This rudimentary approach has reached its limits though, and I think I'm going to need something a bit more relational. I have worked a tad with Core Data in the past, but only with apps whose data is determined by user input. I have four closely related questions: Is Core Data overkill for an app consisting mainly of a selection of simple table views? Do you recommend using Core Data to manage data which is predetermine and extremely unlikely to ever change? Can one lock Core Data down so that its data can't change, thereby relinquishing my responsibility as the developer to handle the editing and saving of the managed object context? How do I go about giving Core Data my predetermined data, and in a format I know that it can work with? Thanks a bunch guys.
