• VB.NET equivalent of Timeout.bas Module from VB6

  Hi all. I am looking for the VB.NET code of a very handy little *.bas file I used to use in Visual Basic 6. The file was called timeout.bas and it was the greatest module ever to me. I want to switch to start using VB.NET finally but this single file is holding me back. Trying to use .NET without it is like crippling me. Can someone, anyone please make this code work in .NET for me? It's only a couple lines: Attribute VB_Name = "Module1" Sub timeout(duration) starttime = Timer Do While Timer - starttime < duration DoEvents Loop End Sub Basically you add that timeout.bas file which contains that code and you can just do: Text1.text = "hello" timeout .5 Text1.text "World!" • How do I memoize expensive calculations on Django model objects?

  I have several TextField columns on my UserProfile object which contain JSON objects. I've also defined a setter/getter property for each column which encapsulates the logic for serializing and deserializing the JSON into python datastructures. The nature of this data ensures that it will be accessed many times by view and template logic within a single Request. To save on deserialization costs, I would like to memoize the python datastructures on read, invalidating on direct write to the property or save signal from the model object. Where/How do I store the memo? I'm nervous about using instance variables, as I don't understand the magic behind how any particular UserProfile is instantiated by a query. Is __init__ safe to use, or do I need to check the existence of the memo attribute via hasattr() at each read? • PostSharp OnExceptionAspect not working as expected

  Created a simple class to test out the OnExceptionAspect in PostSharp. [Serializable] [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method | AttributeTargets.Class)] public class ExceptionSwallower : OnExceptionAspect { public override void OnException(MethodExecutionEventArgs eventArgs) { eventArgs.FlowBehavior = FlowBehavior.Return; base.OnException(eventArgs); } } Added the attribute to a method [ExceptionSwallower] public void SomeMethod() { throw new Exception(); } and invoked it. However, the exception is not actually swallowed, which seems odd. I haven't been able to find any similar problems, so I expect there is some minor thing I haven't gotten right. Anyone?

  How can implement the equivalent of a __getattr__ on a class, on a module? Example When calling a function that does not exist in a module's statically defined attributes, I wish to create an instance of a class in that module, and invoke the method on it with the same name as failed in the attribute lookup on the module. class A(object): def salutation(self, accusative): print "hello", accusative def __getattr__(mod, name): return getattr(A(), name) if __name__ == "__main__": salutation("world") Which gives: matt@stanley:~/Desktop$ python getattrmod.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "getattrmod.py", line 9, in <module> salutation("world") NameError: name 'salutation' is not defined Evidently something is not right about my assumed implementation.

  I'm trying to write an auto-scaffolder for Index views. I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IEnumerable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. When I'm only displaying a single record, as in a Details view, I use ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties to obtain the list of properties for a given model. But what happens when the model I pass to the view is a collection of model or view-model objects and not a model or view-model itself? How do I obtain the ModelMetadata for a particular item in a collection?

• VBScript LDAP: Is there a way to query for physicalDeliveryOfficeName using the email address in Act

  I'm attempting to utilize VBScript to connect pull the physicalDeliveryOfficeName attribute in Active Directory by providing the email address. I know how to do it with a common name like the following: Set MyUser = GetObject ("LDAP://cn=" & uname & ",ou=" & strname & ",DC=bobdom,DC=net") However only the email address is available. How to do this? I've even tried Set MyUser = GetObject ("LDAP://mail=" & uname & ",ou=" & strname & ",DC=bobdom,DC=net") and that doesn't work.

  I'm trying to build a basic shopping cart for a Rails app I'm working on. Nothing special, - the shopping cart has many line_items - each line_item has_one product associated and a quantity with it class Cart < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :line_items has_many :line_items, :dependent => :destroy end class LineItem < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :quantity, :product belongs_to :cart has_one :product end I'm trying to use RSpec to test this association, but i'm doing something wrong as I'm getting an error that says: DEPRECATION WARNING: You're trying to create an attribute 'line_item_id'. Writing arbitrary attributes on a model is deprecated, and I'm not sure why. In my factories.rb file I'm defining the line_item factory as follows: factory :line_item do quantity { Random.rand(1..5) } product end factory :cart do factory :cart_with_two_line_items do ignore do line_item_count 2 end after(:create) do |cart, evaluator| FactoryGirl.create_list(:line_item, evaluator.line_item_count, cart_id: cart) end end end Any pointers where I'm going wrong, it's probably something basic, but I'm still quite new to Rspec. • ExpectedException on TestMethod Visual Studio 2010

  Today I upgraded my solution with all the underlying projects from VS2008 to VS2010. Everything went well except for my unit tests. First of all only the web projects had as target framework .NET 4. All the other projects still had .NET 3.5. I changed them all to .NET 4. Now when I debug my unit tests it breaks on every exception. In 2008 it just wouldn't pass and tell me that an exception occurred. Even when I have the ExpectedException attribute defined it stops debugging on every exception. And example of one of my tests: [TestMethod] [ExpectedException(typeof(EntityDoesNotExistException))] public void ConstructorTest() { AddressType type = new AddressType(int.MaxValue); } The EntityDoesNotExistException is a custom exception and inherits Exception.

• Add Core Data Index to certain Attributes via migration

  For performance reasons, i want to set the Indexed Attribute to some of my entities. I created a new core data model version to perform the changes. Core Data detects the changes and migrates my model to the new version, however, NO INDEXES ARE GENERATED. If I recreate the database from scratch, the indexes are there. I checked with SQLite Browser both on the iPhone and on the Simulator. The problem only occurs if a database in the prior format is already there. Is there a way to manually add the indexes? Write some sql for that? Or am I missing something? I did already some more critical migrations, no problems there. But those missing indexes are bugging me. Thanks for helping!

  C#, visual studio 2005 I have several 3rd party activeX control. I need to use them in my .net windows application. These controls are graphical. I created a wrapper with aximp.exe for them. But it seems that something wrong. When I call some methods of wrapped activeX control == targetinvocativeexception occured. Or visual studio writes "you are attempting to write or read protected memory". I know that something wrong. But what is exactly wrong - i don't know. I find out about method CreateControl() or STAthread attribute. but it doesn't help me. What is the common problem and common solution for my type of problem ? These activex control from big and trusted company, other developers work with them.

• Position text in top of a dinamically generated map area of type poly

  Hi, I have a web page with a dynamically generated image map (from a server side charting tool that I have no control over). I have a value for each area in the title attribute that I want to display on top of the image. I could dynamically generate span elements with absolute positioning, but I'm not sure how to calculate the "center" of a poly shaped area to use as coordinates. Is there an easy way to create texts for image map areas? a JQuery plug in perhaps? Do you know a good way to calculate the center of a poly area? Do you have any other suggestions? • Algorithm to aggregate values from child tree nodes

  I have objects in a tree structure, I would like to aggregate status information from children nodes and update parent node with aggregated status. Lets say node A has children B1, B2, and B1 has C1, C2, C3 as children. Each of the nodes have a status attribute. Now if C1, C2, C3 are all complete then I would like to mark B1 as completed. And if C4, C5,C6,C7 are complete make B2 as complete. When B1 and B2 are both complete mark A as complete. If I set the listview in both listview1 and listview2 with the same ID, then they will end up using the same format of listview, which is not what I want. But if I set one of the IDs to be sth like "@+id/listview2", android gave me the error: java.lang.RuntimeException: Your content must have a ListView whose id attribute is 'android.R.id.list' How do I handle this dilema?

  I would like to add a prefix to each django comment form. I'm using multiply comment forms in the same page and depsite it's working well, i don't like having many input fields with the same id attribute like <input type="text" name="honeypot" id="id_honeypot" />. So, is there a way to tell django do add a prefix to each form instance? I know i can do it with other forms when i create a form instance in this waynewform = CustomForm(prefix="a") but using Django's comment system, this part is handled by a comment template tag {% get_comment_form for [object] as [varname] %}. Can I tell to the template tag to add a prefix?

  I'm adding unit-tests to an older PHP codebase at work. I will be testing and then rewriting a lot of HTML generation code and currently I'm just testing if the generated strings are identical to the expected string, like so: (using PHPUnit) public function testConntype_select() { $this->assertEquals( '<select><option value="blabla">Some text</option></select>', conntype_select(1); // A value from the test dataset. ); } This way has the downside that attribute ordering, whitespace and a lot of other irrelevant details are tested as well. I'm wondering if there are any better ways to do this. For example if there are any good and easy ways to compare the generated DOM trees. I found very similar questions for ruby, but couldn't find anything for PHP.

• Is it possible to scan Entities in jar files using JPA and hibernate

  I have the following situation : Project A - Contains a few entities and is independent Project B - Contains a few entities and is independent Project C - Contains few entities and is dependent on Project A & Project B. I am using Maven to manage dependencies and builds. When I try to test Project A and project B it goes through fine. Each of them has a persistence.xml and a separate persistent context. When I run Project C , It does map any of the entities. I have tried to use the auto-detect, specified the jar file attribute ... but nothing seems to work. It gives me a Mapping Exception saying unknown entity and wont persist or read the Entities from Projects A or B. I have posted the 3 persistence.xml files here. Also, I tried using the class attribute and using the same persistent context but it just wont find the files. Any help is really appreciated. • How is ImmutableObjectAttribute used?

  I was looking for a built-in attribute to specify that a type is immutable, and I found only System.ComponentModel.ImmutableObjectAttribute. Using Reflector, I checked where it was used, and it seems that the only public class that uses it is System.Drawing.Image... WTF? It could have been used on string, int or any of the primitive types, but Image is definitely not immutable, there are plenty of ways to alter its internal state (using a Graphics or the Bitmap.SetPixel method for instance). So the only class in the BCL that is explicitly declared as immutable, is mutable! Or am I missing something?

  Hi, I have some trouble using JNDI since it accepts only 7-bits encoded parameters. I am trying to change an LDAP entry using JNDI with the following code : Attribute newattr = new BasicAttribute("userpassword", password); ModificationItem[] mods = new ModificationItem[1]; mods[0] = new ModificationItem(DirContext.REPLACE_ATTRIBUTE, newattr); context.modifyAttributes("uid=anID,ou=People,o=MyOrganisation,c=com", mods); If my password contains only ascii characters, it works perfectly, but if I use a non-ascii character, like "à", I have this error message : javax.naming.directory.InvalidAttributeValueException: [LDAP: error code 19 - The value is not 7-bit clean: à]; My ldap supports those characters so I guess it comes from JNDI. Does anyone know how to fix that? Am I supposed to convert my parameter? How can I do that easily? Thanks

I am currently using PDB files for this.But using PDB I couldn't retrieve actual code line for extra information in commented format which is given for that attribute. Visual studio uses NCB files for intelligence. So will it be better idea to use NCB instead PDB? If yes,How to retrieve information from NCB files? Is there any SDK like DIA SDK?
