    I read somewhere the Windows 7 had removed the limit on ReadyBoost from 4GB and now allows an unlimited number of GBs. I would like to reconfirm this as a fact. At present, my Windows 7 RC 7100 allows me a maximum of 4GB on one of my 8GB flash drives (though I've tried to connect two at a time and use 4GB on one and 2GB on another). Thanks!

I am not having any technical difficulties, but as I always have to care about late UDP packets I am wondering just how late they can arrive. I have researched the topic and have not found any mention of it, so I assume there is no technical limitation, but I wonder if common network/internet architecture (or hardware) gives an effective limitation of how late a UDP packet can be delivered.

I have setup LDAP with PAM to sync user accounts between unix and samba. When I allowed about 90 users to login over ssh at once the server refused login for many users. I am using dropbear as ssh server. Even samba logins failed for many users. I need to allow at least 100 users to login at once. Is there anyway to do this?

  • How should I structure my database to gain maximum efficiently in this scenario?

    I'm developing a PHP script that analyzes the web traffic of my clients websites. By placing a link to a javascript on the clients website (think of Google Analyses), my script harvests information like: the visitors IP address, reference link, current page link, user agent, etc. Now my clients can view these statistics via a control panel that I have build. These clients can also adjust profile settings, set firewall rules, create support tickets and pay invoices. Currently all the the traffic is stored in one table. You can imagine that this tabel would become very large as some my clients receive thousands of pageviews per day. Furthermore, all the traffic data of each client would be stored in the same table, creating a mess. This is the same for the firewall rules currently, and the invoice and support system. I'm looking for way to structure my database in a more organized way to hold large amounts of data of multiple users. This is the first project that I'm developing that deals with so much data, and would like to hear suggestions and tips. I was thinking of using multiple databases to structure the data. The main database will store users data (email,pass,id,etc) admin/website settings. Than each client will have an unique database labeled prefix_userid, which carry tables holding their traffic, invoice, and support ticket data. Would this be a solution, and would it slow down or speed up overall performances (that is spreading the data over muliple databases). I have a solid VPS, but would like to safe and be as effient as possible.

    I started programming lately(pre-final year of a CS degree) and now feel like there's a sea of uncovered treasure for me out there. So, I decided to cover as much as is possible before I look out for a job after graduation. So, I started to read books (The C++ Programming Language, Introduction to Algorithms, Cracking the Coding Interview, Programming Pearls,etc ) participate in StackExchange sites, solving problems (InterviewStreet and ProjectEuler), coding for open source, chatting to fellow programmers/mentors and try to learn more and more. Good,then what's the problem?? The problem is I am trying to do many things, but I am doubtful that I am still utilizing my time properly. I am reading many books and sometimes I just leave a book halfway (jumping from one book to another), sometimes I spend way too much time on chatting and also in getting lost somewhere in the huge internet world, and lastly the wasteful burden of attending classes (I don't think my teachers know good enough or I prefer learning on my own) May be some of you had similar situation.   • What's the maximum filename length in encrypted ext4 partition?

    I'm using a two-partition setup with ubuntu (one partition for the system, one for my home directories). Until now I had an ext3 formatted home partition, which I'm currently trying to migrate to an encrypted ext4 partition. However, when copying the files the system is bugging me with errors, complaining that filenames are too long. As far as I could find out using wikipedia filename length is 255 bytes for ext3 and 256 bytes for ext4. So where's the problem, and how can I solve it? Thanks!

This doesn't seem to be documented. Also it seems many sites like linkedin.com, amazon.com get an F grade but the page still loads quite fast. How does it fail but still perform well? Gmail get's an A grade and it has 43 unprimed/10 primed requests.

    I'm running a passively cooled HD Radeon 6870 in my PC. While using 3D Acceleration, the temperature climbs up to 95 degrees Celsius according to SpeedFan. It seems a bit hot, but on the other hand I've seen other GPUs being specified to run up to 120 Degrees Celsius. The system is very stable, but Battlefield 3 crashes every few hours or so. On the other hand it might be the game's fault and not related to the GPU temperature at all. Does anyone know where I can find some manufacturer specs on the maximum allowed temperature for this GPU? Thanks, Adrian

Assume that we're talking about MySQL 5.1, with the InnoDB COMPRESSED table format and that the field in question is defined as a VARCHAR with some length less than or equal to 255 (so that it uses only one byte for the offset). Here is the use case: I have a server with a very large table (several gigabytes). One of the fields is currently VARCHAR(7). We need it a little longer and we are thinking of making it VARCHAR(255), but we are worried that it bloat the index.

  • Is there a maximum of open files per process in Linux?

    My question is pretty simple and is actually stated in the title. One of my applications throws errors regarding "too many open files" at me, even tho the limit for the user the application runs with is higher than the default of 1024 (lsof -u $USER reports 3000 open fds). Because I cannot imagine why this happens, I guess there might be a maximum per process. Any idea is very appreciated!     I have a Dell PowerEdge T410 and have installed 16Gb RAM for it. I don't know if I can extend it to 32Gb, 64Gb, ... RAM on this server. As the description, it seems I have no such choice. So my question is, how to know exactly the maximum capacity of memory/RAM of a server? I need this information so as to verify the number by myself. ps.
