  • Design pattern for client/server sessions?

    Are there any common patterns or general guidance I can learn from for how to design a client/server system where the both the client and server must maintain some kind per-client session state? I've found any number of libraries that can help with some of the plumbing, but it's the overall design I'm wondering about. Open issues in my mind: How to structure the client/server communication so that bidirectional synchronous and asynchronous requests are possible? The server side needs to spawn a couple of per-connected-client session-long helper process. How to manage that? How to manage the mapping from a given client (and any of it's requests) to server state and helper process instances in the face of multiple clients and intermittent network connectivity. Most communication can be simple blocking request/reply, but some will be long running processing tasks that the client will want to keep tabs on. To the extent that it matters, the platform is Linux/C/C++. Not web based. Just an existing thick-client software app being modified to talk to backend servers for some tasks.

    I have completed a web site Surfrainbow using ASP.NET and working fine. Completely dynamic with back-end management and Ajax support. This site has to be 100% same as in Java considering look and feel. Conversion is for learning purpose. I am new to Java and learning it fast. I don't want to know how to learn Java. Just want to know what is needed for this project to work in Java related technologies. Want to know How would you handle this project. My questions are 1 - What technologies I will be needing to make this project like Servlets, JSP, JSF etc? 2 - What is needed for Ajax support. Is JQuery supported :)? 3 - What should be used for MVC? 4 - ASP.NET has master pages to simplify design. Anything like this in Java? 5 - Which IDE is best for Java development. JDeveloper/NetBeans?   • javax.naming.InvalidNameException using Oracle BPM and weblogic when accessing directory

    We are getting this exception when we start our cluster (2 managed servers, 1 admin), we have deployed only the ears corresponding to the OBPM 10.3.1 SP1 in a weblogic 10.3. When the server cluster starts, one of the managed servers (the first to start) get overloaded and ran out of connections to the directory DB because of this repeatedly error. It looks like the engine is trying to get the info from the LDAP server but I don't know why it is building a wrong query. fuego.directory.DirectoryRuntimeException: Exception   • Choosing a Java Web Framework now?

    we are in the planning stage of migrating a large website which is built on a custom developed mvc framework to a java based web framework which provides built-in support for ajax, rich media content, mashup, templates based layout, validation, maximum html/java code separation. Grails looked like a good choice, however, we do not want to use a scripting language. We want to continue using java. Template based layout is a primary concern as we intend to use this web application with multiple web sites with similar functionality but radically different look and feel. Is portal based solution a good fit to this problem? Any insights on using "Spring Roo" or "Play" will be very helpful. I did find similar posts like this, but it is more than a year old.   • Handling packet impersonating in client-server model online game

    I am designing a server-client model game library/engine. How do I, and should I even bother to handle frequent update packet possible impersonating? In my current design anyone could copy a packet from someone else and modify it to execute any non-critical action for another client. I am currently compressing all datagrams so that adds just a tad of security. Edit: One way I thought about was to send a unique "key" to the verified client every x_time and then the client has to add that to all of it's update packets until a new key is sent. Edit2: I should have mentioned that I am not concerned about whether the actions described in the packet are available to the client at the time, this is all checked by the server which I thought was obvious. I am only concerned about someone sending packets for another client.

    I'm developing a webservice with Axis2 1.4.1 on JBoss 4.2.3/Tomcat 5.5.27 and Java 1.5.0 (15-b04). It works flawlessly but when an exception happens I get a JBoss error 500 HTML page instead of an Axis2 XML/SOAP fault. This behavoir is vexing, because it difficults to handle errors in the webservice client or in SoapUI while developing. Can I change this to get the SOAP fault?   • Mac OS 10.7 Missing Java Completely

    I'm in dire straights. I was trying to replace my java JDK and downgrade to 1.6 and somehow managed to completely screw up all the previous versions in the process. Bottom line, my Mac has no JDK installed at all. I've tried reinstalling java 1.7 from Oracle, I've tried using Pacifist to manually extract the files from the 1.6 Apple Java... nothing. When I open terminal and use java -version all I get is -bash: java: command not found My real goal is just to get back to java 1.7, but even after running the installer, java is still inaccessible to terminal and other applications.
