• Does anyone know of a way to easily convert a PDF to a docx format programmatically

  We have a couple 3rd party systems that give us PDFs. We would like to convert those PDFs for display on the web without using an Adobe product. Ideally we would like to use Silverlight to render the PDFs but are having trouble converting from a PDF to Xaml or using docx format as a middle man. There are lots of libraries that give PDFs but that is not what we need. If there is a library out there that does this, a .net lib would be preferable but we can run the conversion using the command line as well if that is an option.

  Hi Team, I have an interesting database design problem that I formulated while travelling by a bus, coming back from my home. Design a normalized database for a bus ticketing system (not reservation system). In each trip, the conductor of the bus will give tickets to its passengers after collecting fare from them. Passengers travel from a various source places to various destination places. The system must be able to give a report of the places for which the number of passengers was more than 2. Suppose the stops for the bus are L1,L2, L3 and L4 Suppose passenger P1 travels from L1 to L4. P2 travels from L2 to L4. P3 travels from L3 to L4. The report should list only (L3-L4) for which it has more than 2 travelers. Can you please help me to solve the following problems 1) Design a normalized database 2) Write a query for the report 3) Is there any site that gives these kinds of interesting database design questions and answers?   We use WPF and Expression Blend 4. I'm trying to improve our workflow by tutoring one of our designers to use it for styling and animation. Slowly but surely I get the impression Blend in itself is to technical for the designer in question. I myself use it only occasionally (it's great for Visual States for instance) because a lot of things are easier done in code or not possible at all in Blend alone. It seems a developer with design experience is a lot more productive with it than a sole designer. Are there any good resources or advice as to how I can improve this workflow?

  I'm interested in building a web application in .NET that is scalable to multiple Clients and each and every Client has users associated with them. Suppose that my website is xyz.com and I have 3 clients "abc", "klm", "pqr" and I want to give access to features of xyz.com under the link as follows www.xyz.com/abc www.xyz.com/klm www.xyz.com/pqr and Client abc has N users and I want to set 3 roles for every client's user role. Is there any sample application in .NET that support this kind of website access per client having multiple users? And If I use ASP.NET Membership will that be a suitable membership solution or Do I need to opt for any other type of Membership defined by my own or already available in open source market for .NET. Edit: All the clients will have same functionality. I would like to build a generic model for www.xyz.com/{whatever} so that in future if a new client want to register with me he/she just have to give client name and up on adding client name all the features avaiable to exising clients will be applicable.

• How does sprite customization in 2D games work?

  I´m working on the design of a new game concept at the moment and I would like to know how to handle a customization of sprites. (In 2D that is, hence the topic.) This is my scenario: The player will have a tower containing 3 floors (or more). Each floor can be replaced by another "piece", i.e. a blue floor, a fire floor, a stone floor. With the little knowledge of game development I have, creating a sprite for each possible combination is probably not a good idea, since the size of the game file will be HUGE. So, how does developers solve this? Do you put a standard position and just replace the sprite itself? Any advice or information about this would be great. Regards.

  Im not sure if i use the right terms, but im not able to find something to start with. Im trying to develop a little HTML5 game. I have a ground with a texture and now I want to make a surrounding texture. The texture is an image wich should be bend around the ground. At the moment im using easelJS for display my images/textures. So im looking for some sort of Tutorial/Script/Advice. Im not even sure if I can bend a image in javascript. So the worst case I can think of is split the image in 100 pieces and then put it back together and rotate each piece. for example like this:

  Hi, I am trying to migrate to MVC from conventional n tier applications. I am very much used to creating websites in the regular manner. But i find it difficult to adapt to MVC environemnt. Suppose there is a table products. I jus want to display the table data in a web page. I hav ROR installed and working. I have created a project by giving rails_apps rails demo The command prompt created some folders inside a folder called demo.   I feel like this should be fairly obvious, or easy, but I just can't get it. What I want to do is apply a function to a list (using map) but only if a condition is held. Imagine you only wanted to divide the numbers which were even: map (`div` 2) (even) [1,2,3,4] And that would give out [1,1,3,2] since only the even numbers would have the function applied to them. Obviously this doesn't work, but is there a way to make this work without having to write a seperate function that you can give to map? Filter is almost there, except I also want to keep the elements which the condition doesn't hold for, and just not apply the function to them. Thanks

• Django admin proper urls inside listview

  Hi, My current target is to give users the chance to download CSV files from the admin site of my application. I successfully managed to create an additional column in the model's list view this way: def doc_link(self): return '<a href="files/%s">%s</a>' % (self.output, self.output) doc_link.allow_tags = True This shows the file name and creates the link, but sadly - because it's inside my 'searches' view - it has an URL: my_site/my_app/searches/files/13.csv. This is my problem, I would like to have my files stored in the admin media directory, like this: http://my_site/media/files/13.csv Does somebody know how to give url which points "outer" from the model's directory? Maybe somehow tell Django to use the ADMIN_MEDIA_PREFIX in the link? I'd really appreciate any help, thanks!

So I'm trying to implement some more sophisticated flanking and other tactics, and (as expected) it's pretty tricky. This is a topic I know nothing about. I'm going to keep trying, but it'd be awesome to have some examples or tips to work off of. Is there any place that has a decent set of pseudocode AI algorithms, or tips or advice on the subject, e.g. for 2D tracking?

  I'm a sophomore about to go into my Spring semester in a few weeks and I am trying to decide some major things that will affect the next few years of my life and was looking for some guidance/advice. I'm currently working towards a Bachelors in Computer Science and my question was whether I should minor in Corporate Strategy and Math or just work towards a Masters in Computer Science? I was wondering if employers are more looking for Masters degrees in Computer Science or if those minors could be beneficial to me. See this question.) so that instead of users seeing addresses like labouseur.com/course-compilers.html they can instead see and use simply labouseur.com/course-compilers (Even better, maybe I should restructure that so that it's courses/compilers.)   We are planning to set up a complete ERP and CRM system for a medium-sized global company, that might turn into a essential tool for all locations once deployed. For now these locations include USA, Germany, China and Indonesia, but the list is growing quickly. My question is, where it is best to physically locate the server to ensure the access times are optimal from all (future) locations? On my mind, I am dealing with multiple connected servers (a cloud?), where each of our users is served by the physically closest server. • "BAD idea" warning when trying to recover Grub, after Windows removed it

  Tried sudo grub-install on sda1 but it complained about being a BAD IDEA. I had to install windows for a work related issue so I used a separate disk (I had used it for ubuntu on this computer, but bought a bigger disk so installed ubuntu on that and left the old one in in case I needed an old file). Windows installed fine but overwrote Grub. So if I choose the Ubuntu disk to boot first in BIOS I get a blank screen. I googled and followed this advice: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows However, when I get down to this section: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/0d104aff-ec8c-44c8-b811-92b993823444 /dev/sda1 I get this: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR. This is a BAD idea… --recheck does nothing. Any ideas?

• Which file is the COM++ object and how do I import it to .NET?

  I'm trying to write a COM++ object wrapper around a Qt widget (control) I wrote so I can use it in future .NET projects. e.g.: public __gc class comWidget; In the compile directory are the .exe, an exe.intermediate.manifest, and the comWidget.obj, and also some other crap files (.pdb, etc). So what/how do I import into .NET? I feel like I'm missing an important step for registering the object or whatever, but all these tutorials are terrible outdated and ridiculously unhelpful (for instance, I'm using the old CLR syntax because I can't find any good docs on the new stuff, thx again M$ for being lazy faggots as usual)

  I can't deploy/manage my Joomla websites On Ubuntu 12.04 Zend Server PHP 5.3.14 due to permissions during Joomla installation/J! extensions installation. All files are unwriteable. Only CHMOD 777 will help but of course it's not resolving the problem due to security issues. I think it's because cgi-fcgi is not shipped with Zend Server (only with Zend Server for Windows) Or maybe there is different solution how to make it work? PHP info on Ubuntu Zend Server Server API: Apache 2.0 Handler PHP Version 5.3.14 Zend Server Community Edition 5.6.0 Server Software Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Zend Framework 1.12.0 I'm already asked similar question here, but unfortunately without solution yet so Ubuntu Community please advice. • Constant noise in speakers and headphones

  On my laptop, Samsung 300V5A-S19 I have the constant noise from the speakers. If I wear headphones, the sound becomes more pronounced (at half volume it mutes the music). The noise level is independent of the volume control. The noise disappears only when volume is completely muted. For the record, the sound is reminiscent of the noise of the waves or something like that. System information: Ubuntu 12.10, kernel 3.5.0-18 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) All packages in the system updated. PS: Following the advice from this message (click) yielded no result.
