• issue with parsing JSON string

  I have this object which I use as a list of objects: var objList = new Object(); This is then serialized using JSON serialize. If there are no object added or all objects have been removed from the list and the blank objList is serialized, parsing the objList using JSON parser in IE, it will occasionally fail to evaluate the objList as a JavaScript object. This causes the Object doesn't support this property or method error when tying to add an object to the objList: objList['idx']=objData; Does anyone know why does IE occasionally fail to evaluate objList:{} to an object and has someone else come across this issue. • ASP.NET Deployment under IIS7/VS2010 as Web Application

  I transformed my VS2008 ASP.NET Website to a "Web Application" today using VS2010. So now it's possible to build a Deployment Package. A Zip Package which can be direclty imported into IIS7. Usually I added a website in IIS7 called mydomain.com and put everything in its root dir. That worked. However, since I converted to an Web Application, this Application is added beneath my "Website container". Now I'm confused, this is how it actually looks now when I try to open the website: Browsing to mydomain.com says 404 ERROR. Browsing to mydomain.com/mydomain.com opens the actual website, but in a subfolder instead of the root directory. (The Application is named after the Domain) How to make this application the root of the website now? I want the application to run under the mydomain.com ROOT and not some subfolder. Thanks a lot!

• Using LINQ to search a byte array for all subarrays that start/stop with certain byte

  I'm dealing with a COM port application and we have a defined variable-length packet structure that I'm talking to a micro-controller with. The packet has delimiters for the start and stop bytes. The trouble is that sometimes the read buffer can contain extraneous characters. It seems like I'll always get the whole packet, just some extra chatter before/after the actual data. So I have a buffer that I append data to whenever new data is received from the COM port. What is the best way to search this buffer for any possible occurrences of my packet? For example: Say my packet delimiter is 0xFF and I have an array as such { 0x00, 0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF, 0x04 } How can I create a function/LINQ-statment that returns all subarrays that start and end with the delimiter (almost like a sliding-correlator with wildcards)? The sample would return the following 3 arrays: {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF}, {0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}, and {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}

  I am using the negative-text-indent technique I learned to show a text-image to the user, while hiding the corresponding actual text. This way the user sees the fancy styled text while search engines can still index it. However I am started to think this sounds like cloaking since I am serving different content to the user vs the spider. However, I am not using this in a deceitful way. Plus it seems like this is a popular technique. So is it SEO-safe or is it cloaking? Thanks!

• iPhone filesystem permissions POSIX-compliant?

  Hi all, I'm trying to pass some files from one app to another. I communicate the path (via a custom URL). The target application cannot read the file, citing errno 13 (permission denied). I've checked the permissions on file - they're 0644 (O+R), the permissions on directories all the way up to the root are 755 (O+RX). From a POSIX perspective, the file should be readable to any process and any user. Yet it's not. Any ideas, please? I can think of some workarounds. I could use a Web service (upload, get a cookie, communicate the cookie to the other app, other app downloads). I could also pass the actual file data in the URL - unelegant, and probably subject to length limitations. Clipboard is not supported on iPhone OS 2 IIRC.

• How to get "paster request" to use config host value instead of localhost?

  I'm trying to access my pylons application via cron job to send notifications to my users. The way I'm doing this is by running the application using something like: paster request myconfig.ini /maintenance/do In the actual controller I check for the "paste.command_request" to block public access. Everything works but the only problem is that within the notifications that I send to my users there is a link to their profile and the host is "localhost" which should instead be the domain name of the application. When the notifications are sent from within the served application (say, a user modifies their settings on the site) the notifications have the correct url. I am using mako to render my email tamplates and within the template I am using the "pylons.url" method with "qualified" set to "True". Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

• How to SET ARITHABORT ON for connections in Linq To SQL

  By default, the SQL connection option ARITHABORT is OFF for OLEDB connections, which I assume Linq To SQL is using. However I need it to be ON. The reason is that my DB contains some indexed views, and any insert/update/delete operations against tables that are part of an indexed view fail if the connection does not have ARITHABORT ON. Even selects against the indexed view itself fail if the WITH(NOEXPAND) hint is used (which you have to use in SQL Standard Edition to get the performance benefit of the indexed view). Is there somewhere in the data context I can specify I want this option ON? Or somewhere in code I can do it?? I have managed a clumsy workaround, but I don't like it .... I have to create a stored procedure for every select/insert/update/delete operation, and in this proc first run SET ARITHABORT ON, then exec another proc which contains the actual select/insert/update/delete. In other words the first proc is just a wrapper for the second. It doesn't work to just put SET ARITHABORT ON above the select/insert/update/delete code.

• Symbol error in java application using netbeans when adding a shared project to library

  I have a project which has shared functionality between three other projects and have linked these to existing projects as I normally would using the add project functionality of the libraries folder. This all used to work however when I started up Netbeans yesterday it just wasn't working as in the other projects won't compile even though the projects are linked. It can recognise the packages - just the actual classes themselves were not recognised... and to add to the weirdness some of the classes are getting picked up fine. I have checked the dist folder of the shared project and the Shared.jar file exists. Also I have checked the Jar and the other classes that are not being recognises are there also. Any suggestions?

• Android - Notification bar height from a service

  Hi, The application I'm working on is a service which runs in the background in android. The problem is that I need to determine the height of the notification bar for some functionality of the service. I found a number of solutions for this, for regular activities - a view inside an activity can determine its own height without the notification bar, based on checking its actual view size from its onSizeChanged event, after it is already drawn. However, this is not applicable to a service which has no physical view drawn. I would really appreciate any ideas on getting the size of the notification bar at a system level, perhaps? • Strcpy() corrupts the copied string in Solaris but not Linux

  Hi all, I'm writing a C code for a class. This class requires that our code compile and run on the school server, which is a sparc solaris machine. I'm running Linux x64. I have this line to parse (THIS IS NOT ACTUAL CODE BUT IS INPUT TO MY PROGRAM): while ( cond1 ){ I need to capture the "while" and the "cond1" into separate strings. I've been using strtok() to do this. In Linux, the following lines: char *cond = NULL; cond = (char *)malloc(sizeof(char)); memset(cond, 0, sizeof(char)); strcpy(cond, strtok(NULL, ": \t\(){")); //already got the "while" out of the line will correctly capture the string "cond1".Running this on the solaris machine, however, gives me the string "cone1". Note that in plenty of other cases within my program, strings are being copied correctly. (For instance, the "while") was captured correctly. Does anyone know what is going on here?

• What could cause a button on a UIActionSheet to "miss" on touches?

  I have a UIActionSheet as follows: UIActionSheet *sheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat: @"Cancel New %@? Changes will be lost.", [creator propertyName]] delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Stay Here" destructiveButtonTitle:@"Discard and Close" otherButtonTitles:@"Save and Close", nil]; [sheet showInView:self.view]; [sheet release]; It creates the action sheet, The buttons display, the Destructive button is on top, cancel button is on the bottom, other button (save and close) shows up in the middle, the top two buttons, (destructive and other) work fine, but the bottom button has a gap, so it is farther down than the other buttons. For some reason though, in order to press the button I need to touch where it would be if there was no gap. Touching the actual button doesn't work. Sorry if this isn't super clear, has anyone encountered something like this? I don't like to whip out the "I found a bug" card too fast, maybe I'm doing something wrong here.

  After researching this online, I've only found solutions that don't apply to my problem, so please bear with me. Code snippet: typedef my_map_t<int const *, float> _test; my_map_t::const_iterator not_found = my_map_t::end(); if (_test.find(&iKeyValue) == not_found) { _test[iKeyValue] = 4 + 5; // not the actual code, but here for simplicity } The compiler complains that there's an ambiguous call to my_map_t::end(). This makes sense, because the only difference is the return type. Output: error C2668: 'std::_Tree<_Traits>::end' : ambiguous call to overloaded function Normally you can disambiguate the call by casting the parameters, but end() has no parameters. Any ideas?

• Have you been in cases where TDD increased development time?

  Hello everyone :) I was reading http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2512504/tdd-how-to-start-really-thinking-tdd and I noticed many of the answers indicate that tests + application should take less time than just writing the application. In my experience, this is not true. My problem though is that some 90% of the code I write has a TON of operating system calls. The time spent to actually mock these up takes much longer than just writing the code in the first place. Sometimes 4 or 5 times as long to write the test as to write the actual code. I'm curious if there are other developers in this kind of a scenario.

• How are integers converted to strings under the hood?

  I suppose the real question is how to convert base2/binary to base10. The most common application of this would probably be in creating strings for output: turning a chunk of binary numerical data into an array of characters. How exactly is this done? my guess: Seeing as there probably isn't a string predefined for each numerical value, I'm guessing that the computer goes through each bit of the integer from right to left, each time incrementing the appropriate values in the char array/base10 notation places. If we take the number 160 in binary (10100000), it would know that a 1 in the 8th place means 128, so it places 1 into the third column, 2 in the second, and 8 in the third. The 1 in the 6th column means 32, and it would add those values to the second and first place, carrying over if needed. After this it's an easy conversion to actual char codes.

• How would you adblock using Python?

  I'm slowly building a web browser in PyQt4 and like the speed i'm getting out of it. However, I want to combine easylist.txt with it. I believe adblock uses this to block http requests by the browser. How would you go about it using python/PyQt4? [edit1] Ok. I think i've setup Privoxy. I haven't setup any additional filters and it seems to work. The PyQt4 i've tried to use looks like this self.proxyIP = "127.0.0.1" self.proxyPORT= 8118 proxy = QNetworkProxy() proxy.setType(QNetworkProxy.HttpProxy) proxy.setHostName(self.proxyIP) proxy.setPort(self.proxyPORT) QNetworkProxy.setApplicationProxy(proxy) However, this does absolutely nothing and I cannot make sense of the docs and can not find any examples. [edit2] I've just noticed that i'f I change self.proxyIP to my actual local IP rather than 127.0.0.1 the page doesn't load. So something is happening.

• Talking to an Authentication Server

  I'm building my startup and I'm thinking ahead for shared use of services. So far I want to allow people who have a user account on one app to be able to use the same user account on another app. This means I will have to build an authentication server. I would like some opinions on how to allow an app to talk to the authentication server. Should I use curl? Should I use Python's http libs? All the code will be in Python. All it's going to do is ask the authentication server if the person is allowed to use that app and the auth server will return a JSON user object. All authorization (roles and resources) will be app independent, so this app will not have to handle that. Sorry if this seems a bit newbish; this is the first time I have separated authentication from the actual application.

  I’ve run into what appears to be an NHibernate config problem. Basically, I ran up a simple proof of concept persistence integration test using NUnit, the test simply querys an Oracle database and successfully returns the last record received by the underlying table. However, when the assemblies are taken out of the NUnit test environment and deployed as they would be for an actual application build, my call for an NHibernate session results in a ‘TypeInitializationException’ whilst executing the code line: sessionFactory = New Configuration().Configure().BuildSessionFactory() The application is a vb.net console app running against an Oracle 9.2 database, using a ‘coding framework’ published on the web by Bill McCafferty entitled 'NHibernate Best Practices with ASP.NET' (pre S#harp Architecture).   Hello, I'm new to TDD approach so I'm wondering if anyone experienced wit this could enlighten me a little. I would like to get some leads how to use UML and TDD methodology together. I've been used to: Design with UML -- Generate skeleton classes (and then keep it synchronized) - Implement and finally Test. I must admit that testing part was the worst one, so I started to look for something else - TDD. So I have some general knowledge what is it about but before I proceed further, I am interested knowing how it goes together with software design especially UML. So when I first design/create test, how can UML fit in? Would it be possible to design classes first, from them create skeleton classes, from them generate Unit tests which would be "filled" before actual implementation of UML pregenerated classes, would this approach break whole TDD? Or is there any other way that would keep UML and TDD together? Thanks everyone for answer.

I am currently using PDB files for this.But using PDB I couldn't retrieve actual code line for extra information in commented format which is given for that attribute. Visual studio uses NCB files for intelligence. So will it be better idea to use NCB instead PDB? If yes,How to retrieve information from NCB files? Is there any SDK like DIA SDK?
