  • Trouble exporting Maya models to Panda3D?

    Having issues here. I added the Panda3D exporter script thing to Maya. 2 things: When I go to export to a .egg, no .egg is formed. Instead a fileToBeExported_temp.mb appears next to the original fileToBeExported.ma. My models use curving meshes with many subdivisions, easily in the thousands, like on the smoothed tentacles of an octopus. Will Panda be able to handle this in the first place? I can't find out on my own since it won't export.

    I wonder what is a correct step by step logic of exporting scene with baked occlusion (Culling data) for loading that scene at runtime (on fly from the internet for example))? So currently my plan looks like this: I create prefabs Place them onto my scene (into Hierarchy) (say create 20 buffolows and some hourses and some buildings) Create empty prefab and drag all my scene objects from hierarchy onto it Export prefab So generally I put all my scene objects into one large prefab and export it but it seems that all objects that were marked as static get this property turned off when loading them at runtime and so no Frustrum Culling, and no Occlusion culling happens. So I wonder what is a correct way of exporting Sceen + Objecrts + Occlusion (and onther culing) data for future load of such scene at runtime? I wonder about current 3.5.2 Pro and future 4 Pro versions of U3D.

  • Government Mandates and Programming Languages

    A recent SEC proposal (which, at over 600 pages, I havent read in any detail) includes the following: We are proposing to require the filing of a computer program (the waterfall computer program, as defined in the proposed rule) of the contractual cash flow provisions of the securities in the form of downloadable source code in Python, a commonly used computer programming language that is open source and interpretive. The computer program would be tagged in XML and required to be filed with the Commission as an exhibit. Under our proposal, the filed source code for the computer program, when downloaded and run (by loading it into an open Python session on the investors computer), would be required to allow the user to programmatically input information from the asset data file that we are proposing to require as described above. We believe that, with the waterfall computer program and the asset data file, investors would be better able to conduct their own evaluations of ABS and may be less likely to be dependent on the opinions of credit rating agencies. With respect to any registration statement on Form SF-1 (Section 239.44) or Form SF-3 (Section 239.45) relating to an offering of an asset-backed security that is required to comply with Item 1113(h) of Regulation AB, the Waterfall Computer Program (as defined in Item 1113(h)(1) of Regulation AB) must be written in the Python programming language and able to be downloaded and run on a local computer properly configured with a Python interpreter. The Waterfall Computer Program should be filed in the manner specified in the EDGAR Filer Manual. I dont see how it can be in investors best interests that the SEC demand a particular programming language be used for software related to investment data.  I have a feeling that investors who use computers at all already have software with which they are familiar, and that the vast majority of them are not running an open source scripting language on their machines to do their financial analysis.  In fact, I would wager that most of them are using tools like Excel, and if they really need to script anything, its being done with VBA in Excel. Now, Im not proposing that the SEC should require that the data be provided in Excel format with VBA scripts included so everyone can easily access the data (despite the fact that this would actually be pretty useful generally).  Rather, I think it is ill-advised for a government agency to make recommendations of this nature, period.  If the goal of the recommendation is to ensure that the way things work is codified in a transparent manner, than I can certainly respect that.  It seems to me that this could be accomplished without dictating the technology to use.  To wit: An Excel document could contain all of the data as well as the formulae necessary, and most likely would not require the end-user to install anything on their machine The SEC could simply create a calculator in the cloud such that any/all investors could use a single canonical web-based (or web service based) tool Millions of Java and .NET developers could write their own implementations You can read more about this issue, including the favorable position on it, on Jayanth Varmas blog.     I have a cron job which runs every 30 minutes that changes the background image by running this bash script: #!/bin/bash export DISPLAY=:0 export GSETTINGS_BACKEND=dconf wpdir="/home/username/Pictures/wallpapers/" prefix="file://" file=`ls $wpdir | shuf -n 1` gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri "$prefix$wpdir$file" This worked perfectly until I upgraded to 14.04. Now, running the script produces this output: (process:27459): dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: Could not connect: Connection refused What can I do to fix this? Google didn't turn up any useful results. EDIT: I noticed that running this does change the background displayed on the lock screen, but it does not affect the desktop background.

    So I have searched on google and various other websites but I've not found an answer. The only ones I did find did not work. So my question is how do I get UV coords from blender (2.63)? Currently I'm writing my own custom file exporter, and so far have managed to export vertices and their normals. Is there a way to export the UV coords? N.B. I'm currently try to figure it out using a simple cube that is unwrapped and has a texture applied to it.

For example i would like to export a model of an human body and name each part in specifics vertex groups like: left hand, right hand, right foot, head, ears, ... and you got the idea; so i can have a single 3D model that i can explode in various parts if needed. If there is a better technique about how to mark vertex groups in a 3D file please share your solution. As 3D editor i use Blender.

  • Setting proxy from terminal

    I have tried changing my proxy settings in a terminal as: export HTTP_PROXY=http://10.1.3.1:8080 and export http_proxy=http://10.1.3.1:8080 but when I try to install a new package or update apt-get, apt-get starts displaying messages from which it seems it is trying to connect to a previously set proxy: sudo apt-get update 0% [Connecting to 10.1.2.2 (10.1.2.2)] [Connecting to 10.1.2.2 (10.1.2.2) I have tried setting the proxy via bashrc file but that din work either. As far as I remember 10.1.2.2 was set using GNOME GUI but I don't have access to the GUI right now so I am trying to set it from terminal.

Given that, what is the point in using "stop on ..." stanzas in such job definitions?   • How to login after modifying ~/.profile wrongly

    I did something very silly a few weeks ago. I wanted to add a path so that the OS could find some manually installed executable. Instead of typing 'PATH=xxx:$PATH;export PATH' at the end of the ~/.profile file where xxx is the directory in which the executable lies, I accidentally typed 'PATH=xxx;export PATH'. After I logged out I was unable to login anymore as I probably messed up the whole PATH variable and reinstalled the whole thing. My question is: is there a way of rectifying the situation if I happen to add the path wrongly (hopefully not!) in future?

  • Where does UBB store its settings?

    We're moving a UBB forum from one host to another. (This is temporary; we're going to replace the forum eventually, but moving hosts has a higher priority.) We don't have a lot of experience with UBB, so we're feeling our way along in the dark. We got the UBB code installed on the new host, and we've done a dry-run database export from the original site to the new site. However, almost everything set in UBB's Control Panel section didn't come with the database export. If UBB doesn't store this data in the database, where is it stored? And if it is in the database, why would it not show up in a new forum when the database is imported? Did we somehow miss a table?

    I upgraded to 12.04 and had problems with unity. So this is what I did 1) Ctrl + Alt + F1 sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager Export DISPLAY=:0 ccsm 2) Ctrl + Alt + F7 3) Enabled unityplugin 4) Ctrl + Alt + F1 unity --replace it worked with a couple of error messages now I have to put in start up application export DISPLAY=:0 unity --replace NVIDIA software recognises my monitor but ubuntu sees it as laptop. something isn't right can someone point out what info I need to put here for people to help. I have been upgrading this from 8 ish so have altered lots especially when compiz fusion first came out. Also if I run recovery session and type 'unity --replace' it starts and runs fine.

Why do I need to enclose in quotes on RH? There are no spaces in the variable name?

  • GIT: clone works, remote push doesn't. Remote repository over copssh.

    Hi all, I've "setup-a-msysgit-server-with-copssh-on-windows", following Tim Davis' guide and I was now learning how to use the git commands, following Jason Meridth's guide, and I have managed to get everything working fine, but now I can't pass the push command. I have set the server and the client on the same machine (for now), win7-x64.   • Compressing xls content with apache deflate module

    I am trying to compress an excel spreadsheet being sent from my application using apache deflate module. I have added the following line to the my sites-enabled file: AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/css text/javascript application/excel But is seems to make the response data bigger??? Using firebug, without the module I downloaded the xls spreadsheet from the application and it downloaded 100Kb of data, the file size once on the filesystem was also 100Kb as expected. Once I enabled the deflate module as described above and repeated the process, the amount of data downloaded was 295Kb?? but the file was still only 100Kb once save on the filesystem. As an experiment I manually gzipped the saved xls file and it compressed to 20Kb. What am I doing wrong here?   • How to get an enum value from an assembly using late binding in C#

    Hello I have a C# 3.0 WinForms application which is occasionally required to control Excel with automation. This is working nicely with normal early binding but I've had some problems when people don't have Excel installed but still want to use my app except for the Excel part. Late binding seems to be a solution to this. Late binding is rather tedious in C# 3 but I'm not doing anything particularly difficult. I'm following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302902 as a starter and it's working out well. My question is how can I use an enum by name? e.g, how can I use reflection to get the value of Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.XlFileFormat.xlTextWindows so that I can use it an InvokeMethod call? I know the easiest way is probably to create my own local enum with the same "magic" integer value but it would be nicer to be able to access it by name. The docs often don't list the value so to get it I probably need to have a little early bound test app that can tell me the value. Thanks
