• May a NSManagedObjectContext re-fault objects automatically?

  I am trying to create an application which allows background threads to update core data objects while the user might be reading the same data. My approach to this would be to use multiple NSManagedObjectContexts and then before a background thread does a -save: operation, I fetch the object the user is currently working on and fire the fault for all its properties and relationships recursively. This way I have all objects the user could act with in my NSManagedObjectContext without seeing the already updated values. But this can only work if the NSManagedObjectContext cannot decide himself that e.g. memory usage is too high, and starts faulting objects which I do not explicitly reference (other than through the NSManagedObject relationship). So the question is, can the NSManagedObjectContext decide that an object needs to be re-faulted, without intervention from my side? Thanks for your effort, Markus

  Hi I cannot seem to bind a command to a button.I have a treeview on the left showing Country City etc.. And I tabcontrol on the right. do I This uses 4 viewModels rootviewModel-ContinentViewModel-CountryViewModel-CityViewModel What I am building is based on http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/TreeViewWithViewModel.aspx Now on one of the tabs I have a Toolbar with a button "TestButton" that I have mapped in zaml. This does not fire! The reason is not firing is because I m binding the RootViewModel but the command that is bound in zaml is in the cityViewModel. How Do I pass the datacontext from one view to the other? or how do I make the button fire. I need the command to be in the cityViewModel. Any Suggestions on how I bind it?   i want to start a website. it'll be a small community based website. i've learned a fair bit of ruby on rails and am planning to use it. however, i have never deployed a production website before. i've just practiced in my local computer. i wanted to know what are the things i need to deploy the website on the internet. what is the best place to get a domain name and web hosting, esp for ruby on rails sites. how are cloud based services like amazon EC2 etc different from a traditional web host. which is a better choice. what else might i need to do to deploy a website. also i may happen to have a fair bit of users in the future. so how to go about planning for scalability issues. how to sites like twitter, fmylife.com etc all go about these things.

  I am having a problem with GameQuery (jQuery) collision detection Tthey just never seem to fire?!? I have checked all the .arrow's exist and the same for the .bot's but it just never seems to call the function I have the below code in my main callback: $(".bot").each(function(){ $(this).collision(".arrow").each(function(){ alert("Test"); }); }); Do you have any idea why this would just simply be doing nothing? • Detecting (on the server side) when a Flex client disconnects from BlazeDS destination

  Hi all, I'd like to know whether it's possible to easily detect (on the server side) when Flex clients disconnect from a BlazeDS destination please? My scenario is simply that I'd like to try and use this to figure out how long each of my clients are connected for each session. I need to be able to differentiate between clients as well (ie so not just counting the number of currently connected clients which I see in ds-console). Whilst I could program in a "I'm now logging out" process in my clients, I don't know whether this will fire if the client simply navigates away to another web page rather than going though said logout process. Can anyone suggest if there's an easy way to do this type of monitoring on the server side please. Many thanks, Alex

• Javascript window.onunload fires off after Page_Load

  I have noticed that window.onunload event fires off AFTER page_load event which makes no sense. This behaviour is creating an issue for me - in my unonload I clear the session, so if the Page_Load first BEFORE onunload, there are errors on the page displayed. I would expect the javascript onunload to fire BEFORE Page_Load....is that the correct assumption? TO CLARIFY: Let's assume I am on page test.aspx, then I click on the link that goes to the same page (say I click on a menu), what I observe is that Page_Load fires first, then onunload fires off. Makes no sense at all.

• Does throwing an exception in an EvalFunc pig UDF skip just that line, or stop completely?

  I have a User Defined Function (UDF) written in Java to parse lines in a log file and return information back to pig, so it can do all the processing. It looks something like this: public abstract class Foo extends EvalFunc<Tuple> { public Foo() { super(); } public Tuple exec(Tuple input) throws IOException { try { // do stuff with input } catch (Exception e) { throw WrappedIOException.wrap("Error with line", e); } } } My question is: if it throws the IOException, will it stop completely, or will it return results for the rest of the lines that don't throw an exception? Example: I run this in pig REGISTER myjar.jar DEFINE Extractor com.namespace.Extractor(); logs = LOAD '$IN' USING TextLoader AS (line: chararray); events = FOREACH logs GENERATE FLATTEN(Extractor(line)); With this input: 1.5 7 "Valid Line" 1.3 gghyhtt Inv"alid line"" I throw an exceptioN!! 1.8 10 "Valid Line 2" Will it process the two lines and will 'logs' have 2 tuples, or will it just die in a fire?

  I looking for a simple way to wire the homepage of my website so that it fires off a Push notification message to my iPhone every time someone lands on the page (just visiting in their browser). I'm aware this could become annoying! I currently send regular notifications to my iPhone using cron and curl to check sites / RSS feeds for change and then fire to to the Prowl API who in turn send it to my iPhone - like so: curl https://prowl.weks.net/publicapi/add -F apikey=$apikey -F priority=$priority -F application="$app" -F event="$eventname" -F description="$description" Could I do something similar from with the HTML of the homepage - call a script on my server which in turn fires a similar curl request above? Maybe with Javascript or PHP? Ideally I'd like the loading and rendering of me webpage to be uninterrupted by the call.   Hi guys, my first post here :) I'm having a small trouble with a small but boring problem. I have a view, with a NavigationController. I load in the NC a simple view. Inside this view there's abutton where I fire the presentModalView... in the main view, not on NC, but it's parent view: ABVIEW NC NEWVIEW new attach a presentModalView... on ABVIEW, so [abview present...]; No problem till now. When it's the time to dismiss, after the temporary window (let's calls it NOTES) disappear, my ABVIEW with all the subviews change Y position from 0 to 20, the same height of the status bar. I was looking everywhere and I'm sure it's a stupid thing, but I miss a bit of knowledge here and I have no idea where to find the solution. thanks in advance!

• Datacontracts property getter running twice

  I have a set of data contracts that act as wrappers to base classes that we wish to expose. A quick example is: [DataMember] public List<decimal> Points { get { return sourceObject.ListPoints(); } private set{} } We have some other properties that we have to massage the data first (we are converting object graphs and need to guard against circular references). The issue that we are seeing is that this getter will fire twice, once within the service operation, then again during serialization. This is causing two problems: We manually add to collections, since this is running twice the collections are filled with dupes. If an exception is thrown during the second run, it happens outside of the try/catch in the operation, and does not throw a fault. The service throws a cryptic timeout message, and the only way to see the error is via WCF trace logs.

• Works using Django development server, but throws import error with Apache using mod_wsgi

  I have a Django project that works fine with the development server that comes with it. No errors are produced at all when I use "django manage.py runserver" and the app works fine, but when I try to use it with mod_wsgi and Apache the browser displays "Internal Server Error" with a 500 error code and it generates an import error in the Apache error log. Here's the error in the log: ImportError: No module named registration I'm using the Django registration module which is located in a path like this: /opt/raj/photos/registration I know that the registration app is in the path because I can fire up a Python shell, import sys, and get a list of paths using sys.path. Here are some of the paths output from Python shell: sys.path ['', '/opt/raj/pyamf', '/opt/raj', '/opt/raj/pictures', '/opt/raj/pictures /registration', '/usr/lib/python2.6',....] Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  What alternatives are there to GAE, given that I already have a good bit of code working that I would like to keep. In other words, I'm digging python. However, my use case is more of a low number of requests, higher CPU usage type use case, and I'm worried that I may not be able to stay with App Engine forever. I have heard a lot of people talking about Amazon Web Services and other sorts of cloud providers, but I am having a hard time seeing where most of these other offerings provide the range of services (data querying, user authentication, automatic scaling) that App Engine provides. What are my options here?

The pay is pretty good, and I would assume the position has good job security and stability. Video viewers may be all over the globe, with the, US, Europe, Russia and South America topping the list (yes, I know that leaves out a little :-).   Hi, I'm trying to use the MVC objects in google maps version 3. What I can't seem to figure out is why my zoom_changed method is only invoked once. When I first load the map the zoom_changed method is invoked.   I have seen metal/plastic/water/fire/... shaders for OpenGL. However, it it possible to render something fur-like, say a stuffed animal / teddy bear in OpenGL (I know this is possible with renderman / ray tracers, but I want to do it in OpenGl). If you have pointers to GLSl shaders for this, please point me in the right direction. Thanks! • Watin from TeamCity not running as a Windows Service

  I'm trying to run Watin from within a TeamCity build, using nUnit. All tests run fine locally. I know you cannot run the full Watin tests (i.e. POST) from TeamCity if it is running as a Windows Service. You must start the build agent from a .bat file. But, I don't want to have to login to the server for it to start. I've tried getting a Scheduled Task (in Windows Server 2008) to fire the agent.bat file on StartUp (not Login), but with no luck. Has anyone else got Watin/TeamCity running from a Scheduled Task? Thanks, Pete

• MVVM User Control Issue

  I have a problem with commands in an MVVM application (I am only learning MVVM so go easy). MyClassViewModel is set to the datacontext for MainForm1, MyList is bound to UserControl1 datacontext and each item in the list is represented by UserControl2. I am trying to fire MyCommand in UserControl2 using the following: <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding MyBool}" Command="{Binding Path=MyCommand}" CommandParameter="{Binding}"> I get the following error in the output: System.Windows.Data Error: 39 : BindingExpression path error: 'MyCommand' property not found on 'object' ''MyObject'' From this error I know that WPF is looking for the command in the object bound to the UserControl2 what I really need is for it to look for the command in the MainForm1 datacontext (MyClassViewModel). Is it possible to bubble up commands like this and if so how is it done? Is bubbling up the command a good solution?

I created a private bucket I created a public distribution and used origin id to connect to the private bucket: works I created a private distribution and connected it the same as #3 - now I get access denied: expected I'm having a really hard time generating a url that will work.
