• ASP.net Modal Pop up extender and DropDownlist autopostback

  Hi all. I have a gridview control where if the user click on the auto generated edit button. A window will pop up using modalpopup extender with a drop down list for user to select. The problem is the selectedindexchange event will not fire if autopostback is set to false but if i set the autopostback to true. the pop up will go away without going to the selectedindexchange event. is it possible to have a control with autopostback set to true inside the modal pop up?

• BindingList projection wrapper

  Is there a simple way to create a BindingList wrapper (with projection), which would update as the original list updates? For example, let's say I have a mutable list of numbers, and I want to represent them as hex strings in a ComboBox. Using this wrapper I could do something like this: BindingList<int> numbers = data.GetNumbers(); comboBox.DataSource = Project(numbers, i => string.Format("{0:x}", i)); I could wrap the list into a new BindingList, handle all source events, update the list and fire these events again, but I feel that there is a simpler way already.

• QWidget keyPressEvent override

  Hi there, I'm trying for half an eternity now overriding QWidgets keyPressEvent function in QT but it just won't work. I've to say i am new to CPP, but I know ObjC and standard C. My problem looks like this: class QSGameBoard : public QWidget { Q_OBJECT public: QSGameBoard(QWidget *p, int w, int h, QGraphicsScene *s); signals: void keyCaught(QKeyEvent *e); protected: virtual void keyPressEvent(QKeyEvent *event); }; QSGameBoard is my QWidget subclass and i need to override the keyPressEvent and fire a SIGNAL on each event to notify some registered objects. My overridden keyPressEvent in QSGameBoard.cpp looks like this: void QSGameBoard::keyPressEvent(QKeyEvent *event) { printf("\nkey event in board: %i", event->key()); //emit keyCaught(event); } When i change QSGameBoard:: to QWidget:: it receives the events, but i cant emit the signal because the compiler complains about the scope. And if i write it like this the function doesn't get called at all. What's the problem here?

• Document.ready() failing on popup

  I am using ASP.Net and jQuery/jQuery UI and I am trying to use the datepicker control. It works fine on every page, except when I have to use the popup (to add new data into the database and then i refresh the current page to reflect the new data being entered). It seems that document.ready() is failing when I use the popup. I can invoke the datepicker control manually with adding a click event to fire off the showcalendar function, however I want to try and make it work. Does anyone have any ideas of why a popup would fail document.ready() ? Thanks!

• Override default operations order in LINQ

  For one of our applications we do use LINQ to update a few reccords of the database. For business reasons we do require that only one item of a list to be primary. When we designed we decided to fire all of queries at the database at once. The problems occurs when we add one row and update the primary element to be the second item. See, the default behavior for order of operations with LINQ is to Insert, Update, Delete. If I Insert a first element I get a check constraint error with SQL Server. The best in my opinion would be to override and make sure to Update before Insert, this way we make sure that check constraints are kept. Tho there is not a lot of documentation on the mather. Any idea ?

• What is the life cycle of the XNA GraphicsDevice on the Xbox 360?

  I'm working on an XNA project that doesn't use the built-in Game class, mostly for learning purposes (so I can mess with different game loop types, etc). It's only designed for the Xbox 360, because the hardware is consistent and I don't have to worry about compatibility among different PC hardware configurations. So far, it's working well and I can clear the screen to a color, but I'd like to make sure I handle the GraphicsDevice correctly before moving on. What exactly is the life cycle for the GraphicsDevice on the Xbox 360? Is it ever lost or reset automatically? I know that on Windows, it's lost when the window loses focus, but the Xbox obviously doesn't manage focus. It appears to even keep the graphics device when the Guide pops up, which is the closest thing I can find to "losing focus" on the Xbox. I'd like to think it's simply a matter of "fire and forget," which would make a lot of other things much easier (only needing to load content once, for instance). But I want to make sure.

• IE7 resize problems

  i have a page that contains content which need to be dynamically changed according to the current page size. in order to do that, during the onload event, i attach some JS function to the "onresize" window event. it looks like that: window.onresize = function() { //do something here... }; This is working fine in any browse, except IE7! These are the problems i'm having: It seems that in IE7, when i resize the window vertically only (i.e. clicking with the mouse on the bottom border, and drag it down), it does not fire the "onresize" event. sometimes, i get an infinite loop of "onresize" event, causing the browser to hang forever. I will appreciate any help with any of these issues. thanks, Moe

  I have an control with a mouse down event where Id like to chnage the Image when the image is clicked. But I cant seem to alter ANY of the images properties in the event. What am I doing wrong?

  I have a GridView, inside a UserControl, inside an UpdatePanel on a page. There's a button in the GridView which needs to fire a postback. What happens is: User clicks button - RowCommand Fires - Custom event is raised on UserControl - Page detects this and changes the active view index for a multiview and also the page title and some other controls outside the UpdatePanel. The problem is, the page posts back asyncchronously, the page title changes, but the actions requireing a full postback don't happen because a full postback doesn't occur. To register the button as a postback trigger I'm using: ImageButton btnResults = e.Row.FindControl("btnResults") as ImageButton; ScriptManager scrCurrent = ScriptManager.GetCurrent(this.Page); if (btnResults != null && scrCurrent != null) { scrCurrent.RegisterPostBackControl(btnResults); } I know this is a bit of a complicated problem, but I'd really appreciate any help.

  I am trying to install CruiseControl.rb on an Amazon EC2 instance. I get this error in the mongrel log: /data/cruisecontrol/releases/20100313003145/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:105:in `const_missing': uninitialized constant ProjectsMigration::FileUtils (NameError) This error is raised in a file called projects_migration.rb: http://gist.github.com/331025. Check out line 3, which I have commented out. If you remove the comment-out, you will get this error as well. The weird part: from ruby script/console I can include FileUtils just fine!

• Advanced Java book in the lines of CLR via c# or C# in Depth?

  I want to learn about how things work in depth in Java. Coming from a c# background, there were a couple of very good books that go really deep in c# (C# in depth, CLR via c#, just to name the most popular). Is there anything like that in Java? I searched it up on amazon but nothing seemed to go that deep in Java as the two above go in c#. I don't want to know more about specific classes, or how to use this library or that other library, I want to learn how the objects are created on memory, how they get created on the stack, heap, etc. A more fundamental knowledge, let's say. I've read some chapters of Effective Java and The Java Programming Language but they don't seem to go so deep as I'd want them to go. Maybe there are other people that know both c# and Java that have read any of the referred books and know any that might be useful? Thanks

• Is anyone else experiencing weird debug + crash behavior with Silverlight?

  I have noticed that after awhile of debug/tweakcode/debug etc that eventually Silverlight starts to crash all of my browsers (i.e. doesn't matter which i fire, they all just crash). If i then go to a site that has Silverlight, it works fine? so it has something to do with debugger + Silverlight not getting along? I then reboot and the problem goes away? Is anyone else experiencing this kind of weird behaviour? I have noticed though that if i put breakpoints on the code they all seem to halt, in that it appears that it can instantiate the said .xap etc ok, but just can't seem to render it to screen without a crash? (There's nothing in the log files and i've tried to attach a seperate VS2008 instance to both IE, Devenv and Blend etc trying to see if i can catch what's causing this to occur?)

• Android: custom view onClickEvent with X & Y locations

  Hi, I've got a custom view and I want to get the X and Y coordinates of a user click. I've found that I can only get the coordinates from the onTouchEvent and an onClickEvent won't fire if I have an onTouchEvent. Unfortunately the onTouchEventfires when the user drags the screen as well as clicking. I've tried to differentiate between the two, but I still get the code firing when I'm dragging: public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { int action = event.getAction(); if (action == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN) { //fires on drag and click I've had a look at this but as I mentioned above I don't think the solution there will work as I can't get the onClick and the onTouch events working at the same time. Maybe I'm doing something wrong in this respect, is there a normal way of dealing with capturing user input on custom events? Should I be able to use the onClick and onTouch events at the same time? • NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate in a second view controller (not firing?)

  I am running into an issue similar to the one described here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1319940/nsfetchedresultscontrollerdelegate-not-firing (the delegate for my NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate are not being called on my second view controller) I can't seem to get the proposed solutions to work. I have a main view that loads information from Core Data just fine, but when it pushes a separate controller (and passes the managed object to it), the delegate methods won't fire. I've read about 'mergeChangesFromContextDidSaveNotification' but I don't understand how to synchronize the two manage objects and/or get the delegate methods to be called.   I'm using jQuery in my site and I would like to trigger certain actions when a certain div is made visible. Is it possible to attach some sort of "isvisible" event handler to arbitrary divs and have certain code run when they the div is made visible? I would like something like the following pseudocode: $(function() { $('#contentDiv').isvisible(function() { alert("do something"); }); }); The alert("do something") code should not fire until the contentDiv is actually made visible.   I'm implementing a REST service using WCF which will be used to upload very large files. The HTTP headers in this request will communicate information which will be validated prior to allowing the upload to proceed (things like permissions, available disk space, etc). It's possible this validation will fail resulting in an error response. I'd like to do this validation prior to the client sending the body of the request, so it has a chance to detect failure before uploading potentially gigabytes of data. RESTful web services use the HTTP 1.1 Expect: 100-continue in the request to implement this. For example Amazon S3's REST API can validate your key and ACLs in response to an object PUT operation, returning 100 Continue if all is well, indicating you may proceed to send your data. I've rummaged around the WCF documentation and I just can't see a way to accomplish this without doing some pretty low-level hooking into the HTTP request processing pipeline. How would you suggest I solve this problem?

• Why is there no music streaming API service?

  Apple has decided to kill lala.com. I loved that site. Now, everyone has to go back to paying $0.89+ for songs from Amazon, iTunes, etc. Lame. Rhapsody would be great, except there are no clients for Mac or Linux. They do have a web interface, buy it is nothing compared to lala's web 2.0y interface. What I just don't understand is, why is there no music API streaming service out there? Basically, developers could hook the service into any desktop or web app, and then users of the app could pay $x a month (like with Rhapsody) and play any amount of music, so long as their subscription is active. Why not? Lala streamed music to web browsers, so surely it could be as secure as lala is (was), preventing music theft.

  Please note this is not a question about online/hosted SVN services. I am working on a home based, solo developer, project that now has commercial significance and it is time to think about remote source code backup. There is no need for file level check in/out, all I need is once a day or once a week directory level snapshot to remote storage. Automatic encryption would be a bonus to protect my IP. What I have in mind is some sort of GUI interface app that will squirt a source code snapshot off to an Amazon S3 bucket on an automatic schedule. (My development PC runs on MS Windows.)
