• How to remap "Dashboard" key to show the Desktop on OSX [Snow] Leopard?

  I use my Desktop far more often than I use my Dashboard. However, my MacBook Pro comes with a dedicated key for Dashboard but it doesn't come with one for Desktop. Using this article, I was able to remap my Dashboard key to show the desktop by changing the values for keys 62 and 63 ("Dashboard") to the same values used by keys 36 and 37 ("Show Desktop"). Specifically, I changed the value for both array index #1s to 111. This worked great for my external (kinesis freestyle) keyboard. But when I went back to my internal macbook keyboard, I discovered that the Dashboard key still mapped to the Dashboard rather than the Desktop. How can I complete this mapping for all of my keyboards? The Kinesis Freestyle, my internal MacBook Pro keyboard, and my external Apple Aluminum Bluetooth keyboard? Update: I'm definitely not looking for a solution that involves using the Function keys instead of the special keys. I wish to keep using my Function keys as function keys as they're indispensable for other applications.

• What's causing Remote Access error 807 using rasdial.exe to connect to a PPTP VPN?

  I'm using rasdial.exe to connect an offsite server to our VPN. Remote box is a Windows 2008 x64 server; the VPN host at this end is a Watchguard Firebox x750e running Fireware 10.2 It connects fine about 20-30% of the time. The rest of the time I get: Remote Access error 807 - The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze quality of network connectivity. For more help on this error: Type 'hh netcfg.chm' In help, click Troubleshooting, then Error Messages, then 807 The VPN isn't full, and it's 100Mb dedicated fibre on both ends so I can't believe it's a connectivity issue - especially since I'm RDP'ed into the remote box whilst trying to do this! • ESXI 4 IPMI 2.0 - Cannot connect to IPMI after boot past bios

  Dear All, I would appreciate any help here. I have a Supermicro 6016T-NTRF running ESXI 4 fine. The health monitors are showing up so ESXI is picking up the IPMI status. But I cannot connect to the host remotely via the dedicated IPMI nic. When the machine is in bios section I CAN connect but as soon as ESXI starts to boot I get blocked. Supermicro say the issue must be that ESXI is blocking the IPMI ports. How can this be corrected? I have read that there is no firewall on ESXI 4. Thanks, Adam

• Tunnel into Sonicwall VPN while on Sonicwall wifi?

  Hey all, I am able to hit my company's VPN while I am at home using a dedicated IP with no issue. When I am at work, the VPN we use (a Sonicwall router/VPN/wifi access point), I can get outside internet fine, but am unable to connect to the VPN. I know that the wifi puts me on a different subnet, and when I try to connect to the normal VPN IP it won't work, and a traceroute just times out. Any suggestions? Might there be an internal IP I need to hit while here at work?

  HOST = same host all the time, accepts multiple connection. I have a dedicated server and I will buy extra IP's. Socket 1 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-1 Socket 2 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-1 Socket 3 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-1 Socket 4 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-2 Socket 5 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-2 Socket 6 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-2 After creating all sockets I want to access them easy as UNIX sockets from PHP. /sys/socket1 /sys/socket2 /sys/socket3 /sys/socket4 /sys/socket5 /sys/socket6 I want the sockets to work in background (like daemon) and I want to be able to connect from PHP to any of this sockets and RECV/SEND whatever I want. I saw "socat" and I think that's the solution for me, please tell me how to use socat, or how to do it other way. Thankyou!

  We have a debate in our office going on whether it's necessary to get a hardware firewall or set up a virtual one on our VMWare cluster. Our environment consists of 3 server nodes (16 cores w/ 64 GB RAM each) over 2x 1 GB switches w/ an iSCSI shared storage array. Assuming that we would be dedicating resources to the VMWare appliances, would we have any benefit of choosing a hardware firewall over a virtual one? If we choose to use a hardware firewall, how would a dedicated server firewall w/ something like ClearOS compare to a Cisco firewall?

  Hi, I'm looking for an inexpensive way of backing up my Windows 2008 R2 dedicated server to an FTP server. To be any useful, the software should also be able to restore the server by using a bootable CD and the backup set stored on the FTP server. So Windows server backup seems to be out of the question. • HP Compaq nc8230 hackintosh?

  I have an HP Compaq nc8230 with a Pentium M (1.86GHz, SSE2) 1.5GB RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon x600 (64MB dedicated, 596MB shared). I'm trying to install Mac OS X Leopard on it. I have a legal copy of Leopard from apple, so I tried using the generic.iso and putting in the Leo DVD when it tells me to. It gets to the Apple logo with the spinny thing for maybe 5 minutes, but then the computer just restarts. I don't get past the apple logo. Then I tried using iDeneb 1.3 (10.5.5) but it doesn't boot into the DVD. My computer just ignores it and moves onto the hard drive. I would appreciate some help with either methods (moat prefferably the more legal one), I really need an intel Mac, my PowerBook G4 just doesn't cut it.

Should i add the domain, and use the mydomain.com nameserver settings. Shoudl i add the domain and create his own nameserver. What does this mean and what happens if i change that. Another thing i got a gateway. What is that and when will that come in handy. Another thing I see sometimes behind the ip's is /number. For example: 200.20.20.20/24 200.20.20.20/16 200.20.20.20/8 What will these numbers say.

• sqlsrv not showing up in my phpinfo

  I have just installed php 5.3 on windows server 2008 R2 running IIS7. phpinfo() is working fine. now I want to see if I have correctly installed the Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server. I downloaded from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=80E44913-24B4-4113-8807-CAAE6CF2CA05#RelatedResources I have dropped the 2 dlls (php_pdo_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll and php_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll) into the PHP\ext folder and referenced them in the php.ini I restarted the server. But when I run phpinfo() I'm not seeing any reference to sqlsrv is that normal? or should there also be a section of phpinfo() dedicated to these sqlsrv extensions? Error logging is on but there are no errors coming up in the php-errors.log referring to sqlsrv. Both files php_pdo_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll and php_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll have been added (non thread safe version for IIS), php5.dll is present in the php install folder. Thanks for any pointers.

• MySQL is hogging my server resources

  Does anyone have any idea of what can cause this weird behaviour and how I go about fixing it? This is all coming from MySQL only (both RAM and CPU usage), for about 10 minutes after I reboot my Java game server (that has a pool of 256 connections). There are not that many queries and I think it may be more of a MySQL misconfiguration problem. My server: 3.20 GHz * 6 core / 24 GB RAM / 64 bit Windows Server 2003. My game server: Java server, with 256 MySQL connections pool (MyISAM engine), about 500,000 accounts, and 9 million rows of game items in database and about 3,000 players are connected. After about 15 minutes of the game server reboot, the server resumes its stability and CPU usage drop down to 1% ~ 5% and memory to 6 GB. Here is a copy of my MySQL configuration. Also, any advice about my MySQL configuration will be appreciated.   My company currently operates in 3 separate locations connected by slow vpn links. Each site hosts a dedicated MySql server. I need to aggregate the data from all three of them onto a single server for corporate reporting. The powers that be have stated I cannot use circular replication or federated tables. Is there a third party tool for MySql that can replicate from multiple masters? Basically the diagram would be a daisy with the reporting server slave at center with multiple replication connections coming in from the master sites on the petals.

  On a machine with multiple NICs, running either Windows or Linux, is it possible to dedicate a NIC to a VM such that the host won't even try to use it for itself? I suspect it isn't even possible but if it is, which OS and version and just how would I set it up? The reason for this, apart from academic curiosity, is that I'm trying to set up a network lab for testing purposes. I currently have only a single spare machine, otherwise this wouldn't be an issue. One of the VMs will be the firewall for this lab network, so will need a dedicated NIC for the WAN interface. Neither ESXi nor Xen server will run on the machine, so I have to use a host OS.

• Dual Nic, one keeps dropping

  I'm running windows server 2008 r2 on a dell poweredge 2850. I have 2 NICs, one is configured behind a firewall with a dhcp server on the main local LAN and another one has it's own dedicated connection to one of our 13 static IPs. So in a nutshell we have 2 of our static IPs going to this server, one indirectly through a firewall/dhcp server, and the other directly. I am trying to reach IIS on port 80 and port 443. The problem is that the NIC with the direct connection (NIC2) keeps dropping and says either "No internet connection" or "Unauthenticated". However, the NIC behind the firewall (NIC1) has no problems at all. Update: This is the second time this has happened in 3 days and each time the fix has been enabling the dhcp client on the NIC, allowing it to error out to a 169.x.x.x address, then re-enabling the nic with it's static IP assignment.

  OK - so we've agreed to host a python site, got the files and not sure where to go next. We use a dedicated server and manage it mainly with plesk which has a tick box for a python support but not sure what this does. This is all the info i have from previous hosts; 10,000 ft overview The site is intended to run on a Linux host, specifically Ubuntu Server (tho it should be fine on most distros). The web framework is CherryPy ( http://cherrypy.org/ ), which is a Python based framework. There is no database as such, instead the data is kept in JS files and loaded by the front end. nicholasbarker.com.c6a4facf0192/www/js/video_content_items.js is a prime example of this. • Ubuntu web server cluster checks Ubuntu repository for script updates with cron

  I have a cluster of Ubuntu 12.04 web servers running a lamp stack. All of these servers are connected to a Load Balancer on Amazon Web Services. What I want to be able to do is have a dedicated Ubuntu server that I can update the PHP files on and have the other web servers check with cron to get the updates files from the repository. They don't have to use cron but that was the only thing I could think of, unless there was a way to have the updated repository tell them that it has updated files. And then how to transfer those files. Also if there is a ways for a server to check for updated files when it boots because I am going to be using auto scaling on AWS so when there is an increase in the load and another server gets created I need it to download the updated files from the repository when launched. Not sure how to transfer files from server to server.

• VSFTPD and Implicit SSL

  Hi Everyone, I have a Debian Dedicated server and I want to enable Implicit SSL on it using VSFTPD and I am having a hard time. I have read online and the only thing I can really find is how to enable SSL and in the man pages it lists one implicit ssl command. but since Implicit ssl uses a second listener (990 by default) I have no idea how to make it work on Debian. Has anyone managed to get this working? • How can I tell which interface my Supemicro IPMI is piggybacking on?

  I've used IPMI before, but only on servers where the IPMI interface had a dedicated ethernet port. I've got an Ubuntu 10.04 server with two ethernet cards, which is supposed to have an IPMI interface on it (the motherboard is a Supermicro H8DMR-I2). From what I understand, the IPMI interface is piggybacking on one of the two NICs. Is there any way I can tell which NIC the IPMI interface is piggybacking on? Using ipmitool I've tried to set the IP address on the IPMI interface for the subnet for eth0, and then the subnet for eth1, and it's never reachable. (Can you even reach an IPMI interface from the same NIC it's piggybacking off of, or do you need to try connecting from a different machine on the network?) Also, is there anything special I need to do to enable it? I can access the IPMI interface locally using "ipmitool".

• Can my laptop run dual 1080p (Sony Vaio - Nvidia 330M)

  I am looking to buy a monitor to setup dual monitors for my laptop and was wondering if my laptop could handle 2 x 1080p. I have a Sony Vaio VPCF116FG which has a Nvidia GeForce 330M chip and 1GB dedicated graphics memory. The laptop also has a Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor (1.60 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.80 GHz) but I don't know if that's relevant(?). The laptop screen has a native resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080) so I'll be looking at buying a external monitor with 1080p to connect up using a HDMI cable. So, the question is, will my laptop be able to handle it's own 1080p screen AND an external 1080p screen? TIA, Charles

• Postgres 9.0 locking up, 100% CPU

  We are having a problem where our Postgres 9.0 server occasionally locks up and kills our webapp. Restarting Postgres fixes the problem. Here's what I've been able to observe: First, usage of one CPU jumps to 100% for a few minutes Disk operations drop to ~0 during this time Database operations drop to 0 (blocks and tuples per sec) Logs show during this time: WARNING: worker took too long to start; cancelled WARNING: worker took too long to start; cancelled No Queries in logs (only those over 200ms are logged) No unusually long-running queries logged before or during Then the second CPU jumps to 100% The number of postgres processes jumps from the usual 8-10 to ~20 Matched by a spike in Postgres Blocks per second (about twice normal) Logs show LOG: could not accept SSL connection: EOF detected Queries are running but slow Restarting postgres returns everything to normal Setup: Server: Amazon EC2 Large Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Postgres 9.0.3 Dedicated DB server Does anyone have any idea what's causing this? Or any suggestions about what else I should be checking out?
