• Using a JSON web service from a Java client application

  I am developing a client-side Java application that has a bit of functionality that requires getting data from some web services that transmit in JSON (some RESTful, some not). No JavaScript, no web browser, just a plain JAR file that will run locally with Swing for the GUI. This is not a new or unique problem; surely there must be some open source libraries out there that will handle the JSON data transmission over HTTP. I've already found some that will parse JSON, but I'm having trouble finding any that will handle the HTTP communication to consume the JSON web service. So far I've found Apache Axis2 apparently which might have at least part of the solution, but I don't see enough documentation for it to know if it will do what I need, or how to use it. Maybe part of the problem is that I don't have experience with web services so I'm not able to know a solution when I see it. I hope some of you can point me in the right direction. Examples would be helpful.

So, I am looking to perhaps purchase resume searching from stackoverflow and/or job postings. Before I do, I was hoping a few people could chime in on whether they think this would be worthwhile.   Hi people, Is there a friendlier way to get an instance of FontMetrics than FontMetrics fm = Graphics.getFontMetrics(Font); I hate this way because of the following example: If you want to create in a game a menu and you want all the menuitems in the center of the screen you need fontmetrics. But, mostly, menuitems are clickable. So I create an array of Rectangles and all the rectangles fits around the items, so when the mouse is pressed, I can simply use for (int i = 0; i < rects.length; i++) if (rects[i].contains(mouseX, mouseY)) { ... } But to create the rects I also need FontMetrics for their coordinates. So this mean that I have to construct all my rectangles in the paint-method of my menu. So I want a way to get the FontMetrics so I can construct the Rectangles in a method called by the constructor. • MSSQL Sum query

  today my problem is this i have 2 column and i wish check if the sum of that columns isn't Higher then a value(485 for example) and if is do a query...i though to do SELECT * FROM table WHERE ColumnA+ColumnB<485 But isn't working... i've already tried with SELECT Sum(ColumnA)+Sum(ColumnB) AS Total FROM table but it gives me 1 column with the sum of all rows, i instead want a row for every sum. so how can i do..? xD i hope you understood if not just ask that i try to explain it better! and thanks in advice for who want to help me! EDIT: I Found out XD the problem was that the columns was Smallint and the result of 1 or more rows was more than 32k so it wasn't working! Thanks At all!!

• CRUD operations; do you notify whether the insert,update etc. went well ?

  Hi guys. I have a simple question for you (i hope) :) I have pretty much always used void as a "return" type when doing CRUD operations on data. Eg. Consider this code: public void Insert(IAuctionItem item) { if (item == null) { AuctionLogger.LogException(new ArgumentNullException("item is null")); } _dataStore.DataContext.AuctionItems.InsertOnSubmit((AuctionItem)item); _dataStore.DataContext.SubmitChanges(); } and then considen this code: public bool Insert(IAuctionItem item) { if (item == null) { AuctionLogger.LogException(new ArgumentNullException("item is null")); } _dataStore.DataContext.AuctionItems.InsertOnSubmit((AuctionItem)item); _dataStore.DataContext.SubmitChanges(); return true; } It actually just comes down to whether you should notify that something was inserted (and went well) or not ?

  I have a problem setting the value of a textarea element with jquery's val(). Basically, I have a JSP file which receives a string parameter called 'text'. Java code: String text = (String) request.getParameter('text'); Now I want my textarea element to receive this text: Javascript code: $('#textarea_id').val('<%=text%>'); It works when my text doesnt contain quotes single quotes (and possibly other chars). For example, for text = test' this error happens: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token ILLEGAL $('#textarea_id').val('test''); I hope you guys understand. I need a way to encode this value... i tried using escape so the quote is replaced by %27, but after unescaping its replaced again and the error happens. Thanks!

I have an executable (PE) file that load a dll file as represented in the Import table... let say: PEFile.exe Modules.dll my question is how can i remove Modules.dll's import_descriptor from the imports and do its work by loadLibrary without the rely on the import table and without destroy the file???... My bigger problem his i could not understand exactly how the Import thing works... after the loader read the information he needs to do the import's thing, i believe he use the LoadLibrary, GetProcAddress APIs... but i couldn't understated what he doing with the pointers he get... he putting them somewhere in memory... and then what just call them?!? all the papers i found in the net explain the structure of the import table, but i didn't found a paper that explain how it is really work and get used... i hope you cold understand my Gibberish English... Thank you!

• Can review changes in Acrobat Reader (Pro, or not) be 'applied' to a PDF?

  Hi there, As part of an enhancement to my workplace processes, we're trying to streamline review of various documents. Yeah, there's way better alternatives to what I'm about to suggest, but the reality is that I have no time allocated to investigate things like DAV, repo setups and such. What I do have time allocated for is improving workflow around tools we already use. So I tried to work through the Adobe PDF collaborative review cycle. I have to say it was pretty amazing, from the notify toolbar icon to doc merging, to user access control. They offer it all, EXCEPT the ability to actually apply review changes to a PDF!?! To clarify, after sending a PDF through the collab review cycle (involving a bunch for external editors and internal staff) the end result was a PDF full of rich feedback - but I can see no way to finalised and apply those 'accepted' review points to the PDF in question. I hope this is clear enough, feel free to ask questions to clarify - perhaps I'm just missing something obvious, but perhaps applying changes to an already existing PDF is not possible? -d

• Started with a local git repo now I want to push my changes to a remote server

  Hi, I started a new project and created a local git repo with "git init" and now I have a few branches and everything works great. However since my webhosting company offers git hosting (if you're curious https://support.eapps.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=203) I'd like to push my entire repo to their servers to have a backup in the cloud in case something bad happens to my local repo. Aside from the obvious solution of switching to PostgresSQL, what MongoDB query can I run to remove duplicate entries from foo_list? However in my situation the array is filled with objects. I hope it is clear that I am not interested in a query; I want the duplicates to be gone from the database forever.

  Hello, I am looking for a way to get words out of a sentence. I am pretty far with the following expression: \b([a-zA-Z]+?)\b but there are some occurrences that it counts a word when I want it not to. E.g a word followed by more than one period like "text..". So, in my regex I want to have the period to be at the end of a word zero or one time. Inserting .? did not do the trick, and variations on this have not yielded anything fruitful either.   Hi all, Basically what I'm trying to achieve is a program which allow users to connect to a each other over a network in, essentially, a chat room. What I'm currently struggling with is writing the code so that the users can connect to each other without knowing the IP-address of the computer that the other users are using or knowing the IP-address of a server. Does anyone know of a way in which I could simply have all of the users scan the IP range of my network in order to find any active 'room' and then give the user a chance to connect to it? Also, the hope is that there will be no need for a central server to run this from, rather every user will simply be connected to all other user, essentially being the server and client at the same time.

Why is the eigenclass of an object different from self.class? class Foo def initialize(symbol) eigenclass = class << self self end eigenclass.class_eval do attr_accessor symbol end end end My train of logic that equates the eigenclass with class.self is rather simple: class << self is a way of declaring class methods, rather than instance methods. It's a shortcut to def Foo.bar. So within the reference to the class object, returning self should be identical to self.class. This is because class << self would set self to Foo.class for definition of class methods/attributes. Am I just confused? Or, is this a sneaky trick of Ruby meta-programming?

  Based on my reading and testing, with asynchronous sockets, the socket itself can be passed using state object (IAsyncResult result), also if store the socket as a private field, it would be captured by the callback methods. I am wondering how the IAysnResult is kepted between the BeginXXX and ReceiveXXX? It looks to me that after the BeginXXX call and the method ends, the state object would be disposed by GC if there is no reference to it. In the case of private field, how the private field is shared between threads? (As far as I know, a callback is executed using a thread from the default thread pool, which would be considered as a new thread.) Many thanks, hope the questions themselves are clear.
