Disable keyboard suspend key

How do I disable my keyboard's suspend key? My keyboard (Logitech k800) has a key for powering off the pc, in Ubuntu its working as a suspend button. I've tried assigning another shortcut to that button, but its not preventing the computer from sleeping. Also, I'm not sure if there's a difference between suspend and sleep, but it appears to be turning the computer completely off, but when I start it back up it resumes where it left off.

Basic Java drawing program: issue with squares

I'm trying to create a simple drawing program that creates a square where the user clicks and drags. The square displays correctly as long as either x or y remain positive with respect to the original click position. If both x and y are negative with respect to the original click position, the square grows/shrinks, but also wanders about the screen. Is there a way to swap the origin point from top-left to bottom-right or to keep the square from wandering?

Close button closes application behind the actual one. What is the problem?

Occasionally when I hit the close button ('x' on the left) instead of closing the application I am looking at, it closes another application. A very common example situation: I am using Firefox, and then I open the Trash directory (because Unity sux and make me click the trash icon in the auto-hide menu every time). Then I click in the close button and the trash do not go away, but Firefox does. How can I work around this problem?

Unity --reset in 12.04 doesn't work

I was trying to disable the 'global menu' feature in Unity, and Unity began to malfunction. I was unable to move windows, the left menu bar had disappeared, and the top panel was also gone. I couldn't open a terminal as I couldn't move windows to get to my shortcut. I used a virtual terminal(tty2), logged in, used sudo, and executed # unity --reset but it never finished. Useful Excel keyboard shortcuts

What keyboard shortcuts do you use in Excel? Things I've discovered recently and found very useful are: Shift + Space - select the current row Ctrl + Space - select the current column Ctrl + Shift + Space - select the block of contiguous cell Ctrl + + - Insert (as in the context menu). If the current row is selected, will insert a new row. Ctrl + - - Delete (as in the context menu). If the current row is selected, will delete entire row. What (apart from the normal cut, copy, paste, etc) do you use? Ctrl + 1 to open the Format dialog. Shift + F2 to add/edit a cell comment. Shift + F2, followed by Esc to select the current cell comment, which can then be moved around with the arrow keys (????) or deleted by pressing Del. Ctrl + ???? to move to the last non-blank cell in a series. This is usually the edge of a table, but not if you have blank cells in the path. Pressing End followed by an arrow key does the same thing. Alt + F11 to open the VBA editor. Alt + = to start a SUM() formula and go straight to selecting cells to be summed. Ctrl + G or F5 to jump to a cell by typing its coordinates (e.g. C3) Ctrl + Home to jump to the top left, usually A1 unless you you are in a frozen split view, in which case it will jump to the top left of the "data" area. Ctrl + ; and Ctrl + Shift + ; to insert the current date and time, respectively. I know Ben Lings already posted this one, but I find it indispensable.

I am wondering why Windows 7 always automatically changes my input or keyboard language. I've a notebook with an integrated QWERTY keyboard English (United States). Traveling, I use that one but, additionally, I've my own as well as a much better keyboard at home which is a QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany). Thus, being at home, I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard. Unfortunately, Windows 7 does not play along at this one. Every time, I start up my notebook, it is usually set to English (United States) but that's not the problem. In case, I'd use my notebook QWERTY keyboard English (United States), that's fine. However, if I start up my notebook and I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany), I usually press ALT + Left Shift in order to switch from English (United States) to German (Germany) and Windows 7 switches the input language but only for the program that is currently open. If my input language is set to German (Germany) and I, e.g., open NotePad, Windows 7 automatically switches my input language to English (United States). This is very annoying since I've to change the input or keyboard language to German (Germany) every time I open up a new program. Why doesn't Windows 7 stay with one input language if I changed it manually by pressing ALT + Left Shift? Why doesn't the manual change of the input or keyboard language apply for the whole Windows 7? Why does it only affect the currently opened program? Since I've two keyboards with two different layouts, I seriously need to have both of the keyboards languages installed. I tried both of the below settings in order to find a solution for my problem. Currently, I am using the first option, two input languages. Cacti not working for SNMP data sources

I installed packages cacti and snmpd on a Debian server. I'm able to display common graphs in Cacti (such as memory usage, load average, logged in users, etc) using the data templates listed as Unix. Now I want to replace these graphs with new ones using SNMP data sources, because I see there is also CPU usage and because it's not excluded I have to manage multiple hosts in the future. So, I installed snmpd on the machine and left the snmpd.conf as it is. In Cacti, I created three new data sources from SNMP templates for 127.0.0.1 host: ucd/net - CPU Usage - Nice ucd/net - CPU Usage - System ucd/net - CPU Usage - User Then I created a new graph from template ucd/net - CPU Usage, and select the three data sources in the Graph Item Fields section. Graph is now enabled and running, but empty. No data have been collected. Cannot set up dual monitors correctly in Fedora15 with KDE.

I have 2 monitors: 24" LCD connected via DVI(primary) 19" LCD connected via VGA(secondary) Everytime Fedora starts the second display is always set to clone the first one and they both run at 1280x1024 and I always have to disable the 19" monitor, in order for the bigger one to run at 1920x1080. I want to set them up so that my secondary monitor extends the primary one.The problem is that no matter what kind of configuration I choose it has no effect.My secondary monitor remains disabled. I've tried using both the Display manager from KDE and the ATI Control Panel and the behaviour is always the same.The moment I click apply, the screen flickers and nothing changes. I've succesfully used the extended setup in Fedora15 with Gnome3. I have a RadeonHD 4300 series videocard and I'm using the drivers downloaded from the AMD site. How to achieve the following RTO & RPO with logshipping only using SQL Server?

Trying to come up with viable backup restore & logshipping solution for achieving the following: 15 minutes Recovery Point Objective (no more than 15 minutes data loss at any time) 5 minutes Recovery Time Objective (must be able to get the db up and running back by 5 minutes) Considering using logshipping only (which I think is kind of pushing it, but I want to know if anyone else know how to achieve this). Some other info for consideration: Using 40 Gbit / sec fiber channel between the primary and disaster recovery (DRC) sites The sites are about 600 km apart. At close of business, the amount of data generated is predicted to be about 150 MB/sec. Log backup is planned for every 5 min. Doing some rough calculation I came up w/ the following numbers: 40 Gbit / sec = 5 MB / sec @ 100% network efficiency. 5 MB / sec = 300 MB / min. @ 300 MB / min, the total amount of data that can be transfer considering the 5min RTO is about 1.5GB, but that will left no time for the actual backup and restore, so if we cut it down to 3min logshipping time, which equals to ~900 MB over 3 minutes at 100% network efficiency, that will left about 1 min backup time and 1 minute restore time. Currently don't have any information if the system being used is capable of restoring 900 MB in 1 min, but assume it can. for COB scenario... 150 MB/sec, and considering the 3 min logshipping time, which should equal to about 27 GB of data over 3 mins...??? I think this is where the SLA will break... since there is no way to transfer 27 GB of data over a 40Gbit/sec line in 3 min. Can I get someone else opinion? I am thinking database mirroring might be a better answer for this...

Cannot 301 redirect with IIS URL Rewrite Module

I am trying to troubleshoot my issue with the URL Rewrite Module on IIS 7. I migrated a Wordpress blog over to BlogEngine.net. There were only about 5 entries that I wanted to use 301 redirects to the new blog, so I wanted to simply create 5 exact match redirect rules using the rewrite module. For some reason the exact match rule never seems to take effect, I always get a 404 error when the original url is navigated to. I verified that my exact match pattern matched the existing backlinks and it does. I then tried a simple test and got the same behavior, no redirection. I created a page, test.html, on my site, I then created a second page, test2.html. So my exact match pattern is: "http://www.mydomain.com/test.html" And the rule is supposed to do a 301 redirect to "http://www.mydomain.com/test2.html " The redirect never happens. I created the steps for the rule based on the instructions in this page: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/461/creating-rewrite-rules-for-the-url-rewrite-module/ I don't see that I left out a step. After I apply the rule I've even gone as far as doing an IISReset to make sure it would be in effect but still no luck. Any thoughts on what I might have left out? (Note: my rewrite rules dont include the " " around them but I had to add since serverfault thinks I am trying to spam the system with multiple urls.)

Networking - intermittent, slow speeds

Hi all I'm a novice when it comes to networking. I live in a large two storey building that used to be a school and we have an internet connection with BT (british telecoms provider), the connection speed is 12Mb.. Basically our connection is slow and very intermittent and I was wondering if anybody here could provide some help or ideas. There are about 11 people in the building who could be online at any time. We have a router on the ground floor which is bog standard supplied by BT. To provide Broadband access to the 1st and 2nd floors, we used an old switch that the school left, we have a cable running from the router on the first floor to the switch which connects to a wireless router which is configured as a bridge on the 2nd floor supplying broadband access to the 1st and 2nd floors. Additionally we have 3 computers that are connected via the switch through the ethernet sockets left by the school on the ground floor. The router we use on the 2nd floor came in a pack of 2 and cost about £15 (bought by another person). Sometimes the connection is perfectly fine, i.e. early hours of the morning or when everybody is out, we have rang BT who say that the connection cannot cope with the numbers of people online, plus I'm not sure whether each person is streaming etc. Can anybody offer any advice?

undelete big files - mission impossible?

Hi, I've accidentaly deleted outlook.pst (6.7GB) file, while there was only 400MB free space left on primary NTFS partition (winxp). I've tried several recovery tools to get this file back. "Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro" found 0 pst files (complete scan mode), while "Recover My Files" in sector scan mode found 5 pst's, but 4 of them of sizes from 3 to 28 KB, while the 5th one - 1Gb. I've managed to succesfuly recover 1Gb pst file, which was 1 year old copy (the one used after the latest windows reinstall). Now, I'm frustrated and confused Why 1 year old file was succesfuly recovered if there were only 400MB left on primary partition? Where's 6.7GB file gone? I did some reading (i.e. here), and it seems that there's almost no probability to retrieve the file I'm looking for, but wait - none of recovery tools i've used found zero-sized pst file, moreover - if due to fragmentation a file might be corrupted - we could use scanpst.exe to fix some errors and survive with 10 or 100 emails missing - whatever. Could you please recommend some more sophisticated recovery tools for this particular task? Appretiate your help - thanks in advance

foswiki: hide some topic info when editing in WYSWYG mode.

I have a FOSWiki installation with a bunch of Topic templates already defined. the problem is, when a user selects the topic, they are presented with a bunch of extra information that they should not edit, and should not even see really. Is there a way to hide this content in the WYSWYG editor? Example: The topic template looks like this:         Header 1 foo etc. etc. etc  And when the user selects the topic template, they get all that in the WYSWYG editor. I would like to hide all that so when the user selects the topic template, they get Header 1 foo etc etc etc Without any of the other mark-up.

Convert a cassette tape recording to digital format

Has anyone been successful with transferring audio cassette tape recordings to a digital format? I would like to preserve old cassette tape recordings of my grandparents to some digital format: MP3, WAV, etc... The quality of the tapes are mediocre. I think I can handle the quality restoration but getting the audio from tape to digital is my question. Below is a list of the hardware that I can work with: Cassette Deck: I have a Technics stereo cassette deck model RS-B12. It has separate left and right IN and OUT RCA type jacks on the back. In the front it has a headphone phono jack, plus left and right mic input phono jacks. On the computer side: -I have a Windows Vista PC with no additional software other than what came with the machine from Costco. No sound editing software that I can see. There is no sound card on the PC. On the front panel there is a mini-phono mic input jack and there are several different types of in/out mini-phono jacks on the back. In addition, USB and Firewire. I also have access to a new (2009) iMac with a mini-phono input jack for a powered mic or other audio source and GarageBand that has come with the computer. In addition, USB and Firewire. What are my options for getting these cassette recordings into a digital format? Whats the best format? What sort of wires would I need and will I want to utilize the USB or Firewire or can I simply use the audio inputs on the PC (or Mac) to receive the audio stream?
