• Modifying a column with the 'Identity' pattern is not supported in WCF RIA Services

  I've been following the walkthrough for creating your first WCF RIA Services Application from Microsoft and have encountered a problem when trying to edit and update data using the SubmitChanges() method of the Data Context. The table being updated has an Identity Specification set in SQL Server 2008 on the 'CourseID' column. However the PRIMARY key is a composite of two other fields. When using SubmitChanges() the application locks up in the browser an presents an unhandled exception. By handling this exception I managed to get the message: Modifying a column with the 'Identity' pattern is not supported. This is referring to the 'CourseID' column. Turning identity specification off solves the problem, but I need the auto-incrementing ID. In what way isn't this supported. Or where am I going wrong?

  I'd like to emulate the compose mail screen of Apples iPhone app. At this moment I have a UITableView with some cells. The last cell contains a UITextView. I managed to get the scrolling the way I like, but one problem remains: how to let the UITextView and the UITableViewCell automatically grow in height when the user enters a new line of text? There has been written a lot about this, I know. But I couldn't find any solution. Can anybody help me or just give a hint? Thanks APC

• Returning form errors for AJAX request in Django

  Hi Guys, I've been finding my way around Django and jQuery. I've built a basic form in Django. On clicking submit, I'm using jQuey to make an AJAX request to the sever to post my data. This bit seems to work fine and I've managed to save the data. Django returns a ValidatioError when a form is invalid. Could anyone tell me how to return this set of error messages as a response to my AJAX request so i can easily iterate through it using JS and do whatever? I found this snippet. Looking at the JS bit (processJson) you'll see that he seems to get the error messages by extracting them from the response HTML. It seems kinda kludgy to me. Is this a best way to go about it? My apologies for any vagueness. Thanks in advance.

  Hello all, I have managed to get info about the currently logged in user on my webpart by using this short code; WindowsPrincipal p = Thread.CurrentPrincipal as WindowsPrincipal; string strLoggedInUser = p.Identity.Name; What I would need now, is to get info of Employeer-ID atribute from the active directory, wich I have added by following this quide over here; http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Windows/microsoft.public.windows.server.active_directory/2005-08/msg01766.html I have found serval of quides about how to use active directory on the webpart, but they all were very complex for me to understand. And I only wish to get info about this single attribute "Employeers-ID". Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance!

• Basic HTTP Authentication using Obj C and Xcode.

  Hi Everyone, I am hoping someone can help me with a question i have relating to Basic HTTP Authentication in an Xcode 2.3 application. Basically i have a PHP page that is on our server and when called with certain parameters returns data relating to the servers condition etc. i have managed to get a small Xcode application working where by it reads the data from the page and populates an NSTextView with the data. however to make sure this information stays safe i have setup basic HTTP Authentication on the page, but i cannot work out how to provide the username and password in XCode. here is my code to retrieve the page. • Can the same CriteriaBuilder (JPA 2) instance be used to create multiple queries?

  This seems like a pretty simple question, but I have not managed to find a definitive answer yet. I have a DAO class, which is naturally querying the database by using criteria queries. So I would like to know if it is safe to use the same CriteriaBuilder implementation for the creation of different queries or do I have to create new CriteriaBuilder instance for each query.   Hello, I need to determin the COM component(unmanaged code) type and invoke the exposed interface's methods using reflection in C#.NET at runtime. 1 -- First What member of "Type" tells that type is COM component and we can take CLSID at runtime? Is Type.COMObject? 2 -- I need to call methods of exposed interfaces as they called in unmanaged code using CoCreateInstance by passing CLSID and REFID ... I am using InvokeMember but it returns null or 0 as out parameter. How to pass out parameter in this case.? Is there any need to pass out parameter? As all my COM unamanged code suppose to take las parameter as an OUT parameter and after executing it puts the result into that out param. But I've converted all my unmanged COM code to .NET managed assemblies using tlbimp.exe. Regards Usman

• Writing an Iron Python debugger

  As a learning exercise I'm writing myself a simple extension / plugin / macro framework using IronPython - I've gotten the basics working but I'd like to add some basic debugging support to make my script editor easier to work with. I've been hunting around on the internet a bit and I've found a couple of good resources on writing managed debuggers (including Mike Stall's excellent .Net Debugging blog and the MSDN documentaiton on the CLR Debugging API) - I understand that IronPython is essentially IL however apart from that I'm a tad lost on how to get started, in particular: Are there any significant differences between debugging a dynamic language (such as IronPython) to a static one (such as C#)? Do I need to execute my script in a special way to get IronPython to output suitable debugging information? Is debugging a script running inside the current process going to cause deadlocks, or does IronPython execute my script in a child process? Am I better off looking into how to produce a simple C# debugger first to get the general idea? (I'm not interested in the GUI aspect of making a debugger for now - I've already got a pretty good idea of how this might work)

• UISplitViewController, animating views

  Hello, I'm trying to animate my detail view controller to transition with a page curl (up/down). I'm trying to achieve a similar effect as the Notes application on the iPad, this transition was also reproduced by CulturedCode in their Things application for iPad. My problem is that the animation is clipped to the bounds of the Detail View Controller, it doesn't animate into the Master View Controller, therefore limiting the effect. I see that Apple and CulturedCode managed to make this happen, but I'm stumped. I've tried the following solutions: self.splitViewController.view.clipToBounds = False; self.view.clipToBounds = False; self.tableView.clipToBounds = False; The only other solution I can think of is discarding the UISplitViewController altogether and creating my own VC programmatically that will mimic the UISVC behavior so that both of the views (former separate view controllers) will share the same Super View. • Qt: how to build QML apps for Symbian devices?

  I am pretty new to Qt and I have just started looking at QML. There are some sample applications included with the Nokia Qt SDK for Symbian and I have managed to load them into Qt Creator and run them using the QML Viewer application on the desktop. I would like to try some of the samples out on a device, but I am totally clueless as to how I would go about getting the qml files to run on a device. Are they first packaged into a sis file and installed or is the folder simply copied over? If so how is the app started on the device? Having done some googling the only information I seem to be able to find says that the Qt libraries available for Symbian devices at the moment is only 4.6.3 whereas version 4.7.0 is required for QML apps? Does this mean that I won't be able to run QML apps on a device at the moment? (Device is S60 5th Edition) Any help or pointers in the right direction for more information would be much appreciated.

  I've got a list of frequently used hex colors that I'd like to list under my jPicker bound input text field and I'd like to figure out how to change the value of the jPicker active color without opening the jPicker color selector palette. I've managed to create a function that updates the input field thats bound to the jPicker, but the colors of the background and picker.gif do not update. I'd like to force the background colors to update as if the color was selected from jPicker itself. • django ignoring admin.py

  I am trying to enable the admin for my app. I managed to get the admin running, but I can't seem to make my models appear on the admin page. I tried following the tutorial (here) which says: (Quote) Just one thing to do: We need to tell the admin that Poll objects have an admin interface. To do this, create a file called admin.py in your polls directory, and edit it to look like this: from polls.models import Poll from django.contrib import admin admin.site.register(Poll) (end quote) I added an admin.py file as instructed, and also added the following lines into urls.py: from django.contrib import admin admin.autodiscover() urlpatterns = patterns('', ... (r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), ) but it appears to have no effect. I even added a print 1 at the first line of admin.py and I see that the printout never happens, So I guess django doesn't know about my admin.py. As said, I can enter the admin site, I just don't see anything other than "groups", "users" and "sites". What step am I missing?

  I've installed gtkmm. I've attempted using the tutorials to #include "gtkmm.h" sadly it was not working. So I attempted to include the library manually. I managed to do that but the wealth of all the other libraries are not being included... I cannot find anything on Google on how to fix this... How do I fix this problem without importing 20+ libraries? I get the error from G++: "unresolved includes from gtkmm.h" What am I not doing correctly here?

• Open Visual Web Developer Express file in Visual Studio Professional

  I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio. However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully, but yet when I restart the WPI, the box next to MVC2 isn't checked; if I check it and click "Install", it finishes the install process instantly and tells me that it was successful.

  Hi All, I get following hibernate error. I am able to identify the function which causes the issue. Unfortunately there are several DB calls in the function. I am unable to find the line which causes the issue since hibernate flush the session at the end of the transaction. • iPhone - Dismiss modal view by a UITabBarController

  Hi everyone, I've got into a very strange problem. I created my own UITabBarController to customize it and it works pretty well... except for the modal views. When I dismiss the modal view (present/dismiss from the UITabBarController) with an animation, it waits until the animation did finished and goes to the first controller of the tab bar! Why does the controller change? and how can I fix it? Thanks PS: My UITabBarController view is on the main window and has a UITabBar on it. The controllers (which are managed by the tab bar) are on the main window over the tab bar controller view with a shorter height. When I present the modal view, I bring the tab bar controller view to front.
