• Configuring IoC container from modules/plug-ins ?

  Hi guys, i am in big dilema.. I am working on highly modular web app in ASP.NET MVC 2 (in fact, core will be super lightweight, all work on modules/plugins). I found MEF pretty useful for modules discovery, but i dont want to us it as IoC container. There is pretty good chance that I will need advanced features of "true" IoC container, so I would like to use Unity. And here is the problem : how to allow modules to configure container (programatically) = register their own types (mvc controllers, custom implementations of services...) at application start without making hard dependency on Unity in all modules ? I know about Common Service Locator project, and it seems pretty good, but this interface co container only allows resolving types, not registering them (afaik). I really hope you can understand my point, I know my english is terrible (I am from non english speaking country :) Thanks a lot !

• Do you know of a bleeding-edge HTML5 leveraging, legacy-ignoring JavaScript framework?

  What's the best framework (sort of jquery, extjs, etc like) to use if I'd like to intensively use all the freshest technologies of the HTML5 stack provided by modern browsers (Firefox 3.6+ (Minefield especially), Safari 4+, Chrome 4+) and have absolutely no need to support any legacy browsers (incl. no need in IE support at all, no need in Firefox prior to 3.5, etc.)? I'd like to get all the newest available goodness without having (even abstracted by a library layer) a line of code meant just fore legacy compatibility and keeping no legacy-induced things in mind. To soften the filter, taking very humble hope of such an ideally fresh framework to exist, the least (the maximum level of legacy support) I'd like to agree is not supporting IE versions older than IE8, or better just not supporting IE at all.

• Formula for producing a CGRect for a UIScrollView, that displays a UIImage in scaled to fit way

  Hi I am loading in images with varying sizes and putting them in UIScrollViews, all the images are larger than the UIScrollView. The user can scroll and zoom as they please, but initially I would like for the image to be centered and scaled so the largest side of the image aligns with the edge of the scrollView, i.e. if the picture is in landscape I would like to size and scale it so that the left and right side goes all the way to the edge of the UIScrollVIew and vice versa I found a formula in a utility function in the Programming guide but it does not quite fit my needs. My approach is to use: CGrect initialPos = ? [self.scrollView zoomToRect:initialPos animated:YES]; I know the size of my scrollView and the size of my image, what I need to figure out is the scale and CGRect to apply to the scrollView to center and size my image. • Why people don't use LabView for purposes other than data acquisition and virtualization?

  This is marked as a subjective question, I hope I won't get too many down votes though. LV seems to offer a nice graphic alternative to traditional text based programming. As I understand, it's not a just-virtualization/data acquisition programming language. Nonetheless, it seems to have that paradigm pegged to its creator's name. My question comes up because it doesn't seem to be widely used for multi-purpose applications. I'm not a LV-expert of any kind, I'm more like a learner. I'm still getting used to LV.

  Hi, I come from strong typed unambiguous OOP background and I struggle to find JavaScript reference manual that would fit my needs. The ideal one should be: compendious and handy, I'm not looking for ECMA standart reference. type specific, even if JS is not strong typed function arguments and returns have a type. browser specific, no matter the standards every browser is different and this ambiguity is killing me. examples, they are always handy. off line, this would be fine but it's not a condition. What is your favourite one? Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope!

  How and with what software do major television companies display on-screen graphics during their programs? For example: On ESPN, how do they produce the news ticker on the bottom (both graphically and from a source code point of view), create and display the scores of sports, and update and show selected stats on the fly?   Hi, I have a webpage underconstruction. I want to notify the people who visit it about its under-construction nature. For that I wanted to show a small transparent or transluscent page on the above page as shown here http://img17.imageshack.us/i/normalpagewithasmallpag.png/ You may notice that i want that page to appear at the center of the webpage overlayed on the original page with a cross at top-right corner. Clicking on that cross may close this small page revealing the page behind it so that the users may see what has been developed so far. I hope you guys have some suggestions for me. • JCAPS deployment to multiple external system environments.

  Hope a few people in here are familiar with JCAPS. Coming from pure j2ee world, it is difficult to digest the deployment model that JCPAS offers. While creating deployment profile, we need to map the resources (such as jdbc, webservice connector) to external systems. External systems are predefined with the target server ip, port, db name, credentials etc(in case of jdbc). So the problem is an EAR built for test environment can not be deployed to production environment. In simpler applications we could store database/credentials etc on to property files and hence EAR built for UAT could be deployed to Production with out any change. Is there a similar strategy available for JCAPS by which EARs built against an environment can be promoted to another seamlessly?

  rails 2.3.4, sqlite3 I'm trying this Production.find(:all, :conditions = ["time ?", start_time.utc], :order = "time DESC", :limit = 100) The condition works perfectly, but I'm having problems with the :order = time DESC. By chance, I discovered that it worked at Heroku (testing with heroku console), which runs PostgreSQL. However, locally, using sqlite3, new entries will be sorted after old ones, no matter what I set time to. Like this (output has been manually stripped): second entry is new: Production id: 2053939460, time: "2010-04-24 23:00:04", created_at: "2010-04-24 23:00:05" Production id: 2053939532, time: "2010-04-25 10:00:00", created_at: "2010-04-27 05:58:30" Production id: 2053939461, time: "2010-04-25 00:00:04", created_at: "2010-04-25 00:00:04" Production id: 2053939463, time: "2010-04-25 01:00:04", created_at: "2010-04-25 01:00:04" Seems like it sorts on the primary key, id, not time. Note that the query works fine on heroku, returning a correctly ordered list! I like sqlite, it's so KISS, I hope you can help me... Any suggestions?

Otherwise, P.O. # would have 0. P.O. Number used to have unique constraint, this forces employee to generate P.O. in all cases so the db doesn't throw unique constraint error. Since i removed the unique constraint, any quote doesn't have P.O. will carry 0 value. Otherwise, a unique value is generated for P.O. #. However, i don't have a unique constraint in db which makes it hard for me to know whether the application generated P.O. # is unique or not. What should i do? I hope my question is clear enough

• Screening (multi)collinearity in a regression model

  I hope that this one is not going to be "ask-and-answer" question... here goes: (multi)collinearity refers to extremely high correlations between predictors in the regression model. How to cure them... well, sometimes you don't need to "cure" collinearity, since it doesn't affect regression model itself, but interpretation of an effect of individual predictors. One way to spot collinearity is to put each predictor as a dependent variable, and other predictors as independent variables, determine R2, and if it's larger than .9 (or .95), we can consider predictor redundant. This is one "method"... what about other approaches? Some of them are time consuming, like excluding predictors from model and watching for b-coefficient changes - they should be noticeably different. Of course, we must always bare in mind specific context/goal of analysis... Sometimes, only remedy is to repeat a research, but right now, I'm interested in various ways of screening redundant predictors when (multi)collinearity occurs in a regression model.

The Students table contains student information (Name, DOB, StudentID etc.), the Absences table contains any absences (Date, Reason, related by StudentID). I want to get a full list of the students, plus a count of their absences.   Now I have a solver in that I need to keep a set of self-defined data type objects in a concurrent_vector or queue. It has to be concurrent because the objects come from different threads.With this concurrent container, I hope to sort these objects, eliminate duplicates and send them back when other threads need them. However, I know TBB offers concurrent_vector and concurrent_queue which can be read and written concurrently from different threads. But how to sort the objects inside a container? Does everyone know how to do that? Thanks.

  I am a newcomer to data warehouses and have what I hope is an easy question about building a star schema: If I have a fact table where a fact record naturally has a one-to-many relationship with a single dimension, how can a star schema be modeled to support this? For example: Fact Table: Point of Sale entry (the measurement is DollarAmount) Dimension Table: Promotions (these are sales promotions in effect when a sale was made) The situation is that I want a single Point Of Sale entry to be associated with multiple different Promotions. These Promotions cannot be their own dimensions as there are many many many promotions. How do I do this?

• Speeding up jQuery empty() or replaceWith() Functions When Dealing with Large DOM Elements

  Let me start off by apologizing for not giving a code snippet. The project I'm working on is proprietary and I'm afraid I can't show exactly what I'm working on. However, I'll do my best to be descriptive. Here's a breakdown of what goes on in my application: User clicks a button Server retrieves a list of images in the form of a data-table Each row in the table contains 8 data-cells that in turn each contain one hyperlink Each request by the user can contain up to 50 rows (I can change this number if need be) That means the table contains upwards of 800 individual DOM elements My analysis shows that jQuery("#dataTable").empty() and jQuery("#dataTable).replaceWith(tableCloneObject) take up 97% of my overall processing time and take on average 4 - 6 seconds to complete. I'm looking for a way to speed up either of the above mentioned jQuery functions when dealing with massive DOM elements that need to be removed / replaced. I hope my explanation helps.

  I hope someone can help. I have been looking into trying to stream movies into my client's site. They are videos about 1 hour long and for web in .flv or .m4v are about 320 megs. We need to get these videos off our server while providing our visitors a way to scrub through the video. I know Limelight does it, but their min plan is $1,000 a month. This is overkill for our needs. Someone told me to go with CacheFly, but they don't support true streaming. SimpleCDN seems to be sold out at the moment. Please help!

• Android: Using MediaRecorder to crop an existing audio file?

  Hi, I'd like to take an existing mp3 file located on an SD card and arbitrarily crop it (e.g. crop from 0:12 to 1:14 in a 3 minute song). The only class that I've seen that seems remotely relevant to do this is the MediaRecorder class. My 'hope' would be to "record" an existing file like this: MediaRecorder recorder = new MediaRecorder(); recorder.setAudioSource(###some magical way of specifying an existing file??###); But this obviously doesn't work (setAudioSource() takes an int and seems to default to the phone's microphone). Is there a class or an approach that can be used to crop audio on the phone itself? TKS!!

• What interprocess locking calls should I monitor?

  I'm monitoring a process with strace/ltrace in the hope to find and intercept a call that checks, and potentially activates some kind of globally shared lock. While I've dealt with and read about several forms of interprocess locking on Linux before, I'm drawing a blank on what to calls to look for. Currently my only suspect is futex() which comes up very early on in the process' execution. Update0 There is some confusion about what I'm after. I'm monitoring an existing process for calls to persistent interprocess memory or equivalent. I'd like to know what system and library calls to look for. I have no intention call these myself, so naturally futex() will come up, I'm sure many libraries will implement their locking calls in terms of this, etc. Update1 I'd like a list of function names or a link to documentation, that I should monitor at the ltrace and strace levels (and specifying which). Any other good advice about how to track and locate the global lock in mind would be great.

• facebook iframe app problem.... opens on server not in facebook frame

  Hi guys, I'm very new to facebook platform. I developed an iframe app. which after allowing permsiions, opens the application on my server and not in facebook iframe. I hope i'm clear. I'm using $user = $facebook-require_login(). I read somewhere that adding $facebook-require_frame() would help but it didn't help. The page reloads with new access token on each reload. • code throws std::bad_alloc, not enough memory or can it be a bug?

  I am parsing using a pretty large grammar (1.1 GB, it's data-oriented parsing). The parser I use (bitpar) is said to be optimized for highly ambiguous grammars. I'm getting this error: 1terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' what(): St9bad_alloc dotest.sh: line 11: 16686 Aborted bitpar -p -b 1 -s top -u unknownwordsm -w pos.dfsa /tmp/gsyntax.pcfg /tmp/gsyntax.lex arbobanko.test arbobanko.results Is there hope? Does it mean that it has ran out of memory? It uses about 15 GB before it crashes. The machine I'm using has 32 GB of RAM, plus swap as well. It crashes before outputting a single parse tree. The parser is an efficient CYK chart parser using bit vector representations; I presume it is already near the limit of memory efficiency. If it really requires too much memory I could sample from the grammar rules, but this will decrease parse accuracy of course.
