  Hello. I am trying to learn ASP.NET (since I know C#) so I have decided to follow Nerd Dinner Tutorial. I am having trouble in part 5 of tutorial. I exactly followed tutorial, even pasted whole code to my visual studio, but when I was supposed to create EDIT VIEW, my result was different than one in tutorial. • Database table copying

  I am trying to rectify a previous database creation with tables that contains data that needs to be saved. Instead of recreating a completely new database since some of the tables are still reusable, I need to split a table that exists into 2 new tables which I have done. Now I am trying to insert the data into the 2 new tables and because of duplicate data in the old table I am having a hard time doing this. Old table structure: ClientProjects clientId PK clientName clientProj hashkey MD5 (clientname and clientProj) new table structures: client clientId PK clientName projects queryId PK clientId PK projectName I hope this makes sense. The problem is that in the old table for example you have clients with multiple clientIds.

• Listing time every second as a Bash script

  Hello all, first time here as I've finally started to learn programming. Anyway, I'm just trying to print the time in nanoseconds every second here, and I have this: #!/usr/bin/env bash while true; do date=(date +%N) ; echo $date ; sleep 1 ; done Now, that simply yields a string of date's, which isn't what I want. My learning has been rather messy, so I hope you'll excuse me for this if it's really simple. Also, I did manage to fine this, that worked on the prompt: while true ; do date +%N ; sleep 1 ; done But that obviously doesn't work as a script.

• How to replace "(" with "\(" in the regexp, Emacs/elisp flavor?

  Question as title. More specifically, I'm rather tired of having to type \(, etc. every time I want a parenthesis in Emacs's (interactive) regexp functions (not to mention the \\( in code). So I wrote something like (defadvice query-replace-regexp (before my-query-replace-regexp activate) (ad-set-arg 0 (replace-regexp-in-string "(" "\\\\(" (ad-get-arg 0))) (ad-set-arg 0 (replace-regexp-in-string ")" "\\\\)" (ad-get-arg 0))))) in hope that I can conveniently forget about emacs's idiosyncrasy in regexp during "interaction mode". Except I cannot get the regexp right... (replace-regexp-in-string "(" "\\\\(" "(abc") gives \\(abc instead of the wanted \(abc. Other variations on the number of slashes just gives errors. Thoughts? Since I started questioning, might as well ask another one: since lisp code is not supposed to use interactive functions, advicing query-replace-regexp should be okay, am I correct?

• Static Website - Converting to Dynamic, need to import information from database on different host

  This seems really complicated to ask about so I hope someone can help: We have a long time running static website held with a hosting company that provide PHP, Ruby-on-Rails and Drupal/Joomla support. A little limited I know but we got reasonably decent search engine rankings and didn't want them to drop. We have two much more recently created sites on another host written in Python/Django. The original site is now too big to handle statically and we want to create a more dynamic site in its place without changing servers/webhosts. The data we want to provide the 'new' dynamic site is from the same database providing the Django sites. What is the best solution to build the new site with? Is it better to create PHP pages that connect to the database on the other host? Ruby-on-rails seems like a very fast development environment not too dissimilar to Django, would we be able to fetch data from the existing databases into a rails site and use similar urls to our old static pages?

What are other issues that I need to be concerned with that they perhaps didn't face as a vulnerability because they handled it correctly from the start? • Free (as in beer) Reverse Image Search API/Library/Service

  TinEye provides a great way to "reverse" search by image (i.e. upload/transload an image and have multiple possible sources of that image returned as results.) Since screen-scraping is messy and unreliable, I'm looking for a free API/library/web-service that could offer the same (or similar) reverse-image search function. At present, TinEye offers a commercial API, but since I'll only be using the service for small personal projects, it's hard to justify the cost of the service (the lowest being 1,000 searches for $70 USD). Is anyone aware of such a free service? Or is there a simpler way to approach this (programmatic solution; any language)? I understand that this is a tall order, and submitting the question is really only a last resort in the hope that there is some solution. • Glew in VS 2010: unresolved external symbol __imp__glewInit

  I am learning OpenGL by following the redbook. When I come to around page 90, I need use glGenBuffers(); Then I need install "glew". By following the steps in www.cs.uiowa.edu/~cwyman/classes/common/howto/winGLUT.html I download glew.zip from glew.sourceforge.net/ and unpack the files. I put glew.h in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Include and put glew32.lib in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Lib and put glew32.dll in C:\Windows\System32. After that, I build my project in VS 2010 and in Linker-input, I add dependencies glew32.lib. But when I build it, I have error unresolved external symbol _imp_glewInit I spend whole day to search solutions, but did not find one. Hope someone can help me with this.

• CAN Controller DLL with Java Application. Unable to open CAN port.

  I am creating a Java application that controls a Controller Area Network (CAN) controller via a vendor-supplied can.dll file. can.dll contains a function bool openPort(DWORD memAddr) that allows the application to establish connection with the CAN controller. I wrote a C++ test application, loaded can.dll via LoadLibrary and found this function to be working as it should, i.e. it returns true. However, in my Java application, calling this via JNI or JNA returns false. I hope someone can help me with this problem as I have been trying to fix this problem for more than a week. Thanks :) JL

• Stored Procedure with ALTER TABLE

  I have a need to sync auto_increment fields between two tables in different databases on the same MySQL server. The hope was to create a stored procedure where the permissions of the admin would let the web user run ALTER TABLE [db1].[table] AUTO_INCREMENT = [num]; without giving it permissions (That just smells of SQL injection). My problem is I'm receiving errors when creating the store procedure. Is this something that is not allowed by MySQL? • Custom validation summary

  I'm using the UpdateModel method for validation. How do I specify the text for the error messages as they appear in the validation summary? Sorry, I wasn't entirely clear. When I call UpdateModel(), if there is parsing error, for example if a string value is specified for a double field, a "SomeProperty is invalid" error message is automatically added to the ModelState. How do I specify the text for said automatically generated error message? If I implement IDataErrorInfo as suggested, it's error message property gets called for every column, regardless of whether the default binder deems it valid or not. I'd have to reimplement the parse error catching functionality that I get for free with the default binder. Incidentally, the default "SomeProperty is invalid" error messages seem to have mysteriously dissappeared in the RC. A validation summary appears and the relevant fields are highlighted but the text is missing! Any idea why this is? Thanks again and I hope all this waffle makes sense!

• How to calculate real-time stats?

  I have a site with millions of users (well, actually it doesn't have any yet, but let's imagine), and I want to calculate some stats like "log-ins in the past hour". The problem is similar to the one described here: http://highscalability.com/blog/2008/4/19/how-to-build-a-real-time-analytics-system.html The simplest approach would be to do a select like this: select count(distinct user_id) from logs where date>='20120601 1200' and date <='20120601 1300' (of course other conditions could apply for the stats, like log-ins per country) Of course this would be really slow, mainly if it has millions (or even thousands) of rows, and I want to query this every time a page is displayed. How would you summarize the data? What should go to the (mem)cache? EDIT: I'm looking for a way to de-normalize the data, or to keep the cache up-to-date. For example I could increment an in-memory variable every time someone logs in, but that would help to know the total amount of logins, not the "logins in the last hour". Hope it's more clear now.

• Test For CSS3 Radial Gradient Vendor Syntax

  I'm having an issue where I'm trying to update the background gradient of an element with JavaScript based on values I specify. I tried this route: elem.style.backgroundImage = '-webkit-gradient(radial, '+x+' '+y+', 0, '+x+' '+y+', 800, from(#ccc), to(#333)), -moz-radial-gradient('+x+'px '+y+'px, circle cover, #ccc 0, #333 100%)'; Since Webkit and Gecko have two different syntaxes for CSS3 gradients, I need to specify both. However, the above code doesn't work. It works if I only have just the Gecko syntax or just the Webkit syntax, not both. I think you can check for CSS gradient support, but my question is, is there a way to check which syntax needs to be used without browser sniffing? Keep in mind that I need to set my gradients this way since the x and y coordinates of the gradient change dynamically. Hope this makes sense, thanks.

• Will news ticker using overflow:hidden cause Google to see site as spam?

  In the hope of tempting Googlebot with fresh content, I've implemented a homepage news ticker which displays the 20 most recent headlines on our site. The implementation I have chosen is a <ul> with each headline being a <li> Initially all the <li> elements have no style but Javascript kicks in on page load and gives all but one of them a display="style:none" attribute. Javascript then displays each of the other 19 headlines in a loop. So far so good. However, in order to prevent a visually unplesant page load where the 20 items display and then immediately collapse, I am using overflow:hidden on the <ul> element. Anyone got a view on what Googlebot is likely to make of this? Does the fact that I'm using overflow:hidden make the content look like spam?

  Hi guys, In Safari and other browsers, there is a bar that would indicate the percentage of the loading progress, and I, myself, trying to implement something similiar on iPhone, when loading some content in UIWebView, I would like the app to indicate the percentage of the page being loaded. I tried some google search and realize we could use NSURLConnection to read only the header and get the Content-Length ( but don't know how to, I read the Apple's NSURLConnection docs but probably I missed something ... ). And the size ( kb ) which UIWebView had loaded, seem like UIWebView don't support it for the public API... I hope this would be complete in some other ways than I thought, so if you have any ideas, please throw it out, thanks for your patient reading. P.S : I could just show an Activities Indicator for users with the long loading progress actions of the UIWebView but I just want to go further with the loading percentage bar :). Regards.

  Have a few questions related to adding sounds to my game, specifically intro music (for splash), background music (loop) and button event sounds. Hope you can share your knowledge on this. 1) Should I use compressed sounds or uncompressed sounds? Or perhaps a combination of the two? Are there any limitations on the iPhone hardware that I should be aware of -- for example, the ability to play multiple compressed sounds? 2) What's the best audio format for my purpose? 3) For background music, I am thinking of using AVAudioPlayer. • In terminal, merging multiple folders into one.

  I have a backup directory created by WDBackup (western digital external HD backup util) that contains a directory for each day that it backed up and the incremental contents of just what was backed up. So the hierarchy looks like this: 20100101 My Documents Letter1.doc My Music Best Songs Every First Songs.mp3 My song.mp3 # modified 20100101 20100102 My Documents Important Docs Taxes.doc My Music My Song.mp3 # modified 20100102 ...etc... Only what has changed is backed up and the first backup that was ever made contains all the files selected for backup. What I'm trying to do now is incrementally copy, while keeping the folder structure, from oldest to newest, each of these dated folders into a 'merged' folder so that it overrides the older content and keeps the new stuff. As an example, if just using these two example folders, the final merged folder would look like this: Merged My Documents Important Docs Taxes.doc Letter1.doc My Music Best Songs Every First Songs.mp3 My Song.mp3 # modified 20100102 Hope that makes sense.   Hello, I am trying to implement my own transport layer protocol in Linux for an experiment. I am going to use socket interface and add my protocol using sock_register. For the proto_ops i can see that the parameters for the sendmsg and recvmsg are (struct kiocb *iocb, struct socket *sock, struct msghdr *msg, size_t len, int flags). But there are three types of user api's send, sendto, sendmsg. Of these three only sendmsg contains a parameter for msghdr. I find that the other two api's are incompatible with the parameters supplied by the kernel to my kernel-space sendmsg function. So what happens when we use send and sendto user-space api's? How can i check that i just add one li each time you hit enter. Hope you get the problem!
