  • Gallery items become off-center when switching into landscape orientation.

    - by Sandile
Hey Guys, Thanks for your time. I'm writing an application for android 2.2 and I'm using a gallery to circulate through a list of images that the user can then click to navigate other portions of the application. In portrait orientation, everything is kosher: the images are displaying correctly (completely in the center of the screen as I intended); however, in landscape orientation, all the images in the gallery are strangely displaced a fixed distance to the left of the center of the screen. I've been researching this issue for hours now and haven't found a solution. I'm hoping that some android guru can aid me in the resolution of this bizarre rendering issue. MainMenuActivity.java relevant code snippet (the activity in which the gallery resides) Gallery optionList = (Gallery)findViewById(R.id.mainMenuOptionList); GalleryItem[] optionListItemIdArray = new GalleryItem[] { new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_blackboard, "Start Next Lesson", "Start the next planned vocab lesson."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_index_cards, "Review Words", "Manually look over old words."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_dice, "Play Vocab Games", "Play games to reinforce knowledge."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_calendar, "View Lesson Plan", "View the schedule for coming lessons."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_pie_chart, "View Performance Report", "Evaluate your overall performance statistics."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_settings, "Manage Settings", "Change and modify application settings.") }; optionList.setAdapter(new GalleryImageAdapter(this, optionListItemIdArray)); NOTE: A GalleryItem is a POJO with an image resource id, title and description. GalleryImageAdapter.java: public class GalleryImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private Context context; private GalleryItem[] galleryItemArray; public GalleryImageAdapter(Context context, GalleryItem[] galleryItemArray) { this.context = context; • Why in landscape orientation in simulator all the subviews appear out of order?

    - by wolverine
I was doing a sample app in ipad. I added about 4 to 5 imageviews to the left side of the view vertically. This view will appear when we select the corresponding entry in the splitviewcontroller. In ipad simulator too, all the images were loading and all are working fine in portrait orientation. But when I rotate the simulator to landscape orientation, these imageviews doesnt appear where i placed them. Some of them overlapping each other, some have half of their part in the navigation bar and all. Has gone completely out of order. I am confused why is all this happening. Can anyone help me solve this issue?

  • Can’t tap button after interface rotation

    - by zoul
Hello! I’ve got a view that has to be presented both in landscape and portrait. The transition between different orientations is done by repositioning and resizing the subviews. One of the subviews is a button (plain UIButton with an image background). When the interface rotates to landscape, the button starts misbehaving – it can only be tapped on its left part, the right part does not respond. When I move the button a bit to the left, the tappable part grows. The button should not be obscured by any other view, it’s clearly visible. When I override the hitTest:withEvent: method in the parent view, I see that the taps in the “numb” part of the button result in nil being returned. I think I have seen this behaviour once before, but unfortunately I’ve forgotten the source of the problem :) Any help?

  • Is It Possible To Use Javascript/CSS To Swap Style Sheets When A Mobile Device Rotates?

    - by Sean M
I am working on a site that must be designed with mobile accessibility in mind. As part of our brainstorming, we wondered whether it's possible to detect, for a mobile browser (i.e. Mobile Safari or the Android browser), when the viewing device has changed orientation, and to use that as a trigger to change page content? As the title of this question implies, our best-case scenario is the ability to detect the orientation change and use it to alter the CSS on the fly so as to present a slightly different page for landscape versus portrait. Of course we can just design for a page that looks good one way and make it obvious that it's supposed to be viewed that way, but the cool-stuff factor of a page that looks good either way is pretty appealing. Is this idea implementable? Practical?

  • How to detect orientation change in home screen widget?

    - by kknight
    I am writing a home screen widget and want to update the home screen widget when the device orientation changes from portrait to landscape or the other way. How can I make it? Currently, I tried to reigster to CONFIGURATION_CHANGED action like the code below, but the Android didn't allow me to do that by saying "IntentReceiver components are not allowed to register to receive intents". Can someone help me? Thanks. public class MyWidget extends AppWidgetProvider { @Override public void onEnabled(Context context) { super.onEnabled(context); this.registerReceiver(this, new IntentFilter(Intent.ACTION_CONFIGURATION_CHANGED)); }

  • UIViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated: causes main window to disappear

    - by Jim
I want to present a modal mail dialogue like so in the iPad app: MFMailComposeViewController* picker = [[MFMailComposeViewController alloc] init]; picker.mailComposeDelegate = self; [picker setSubject:title]; [picker setMessageBody:[NSString stringWithFormat:[self emailBody], title, [link absoluteString]] isHTML:YES]; [self.viewController presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; The following delegate is called when the user sends/cancels: - (void) mailComposeController:(MFMailComposeViewController*)controller didFinishWithResult:(MFMailComposeResult)result error:(NSError*)error { [self.viewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } This works great in portrait mode. In landscape mode the right hand pane of the UISplitViewController completely disappears.

  • How to load different XIBs for different device orientations for same viewcontroller?

    - by Jaanus
The documentation says that if I want to support both portrait and landscape, I basically have two ways of doing that: Set up the viewcontroller's view so that the subviews autoresize correctly and make smaller changes programmatically at runtime If the changes are more substantial, create an alternative landscape interface and push/pop the alternative modal viewcontroller at runtime I would like to present the info where the layout is substantially different, but logic is the same. Ideally, I would load another XIB for the same viewcontroller, but it does not seem to be an option. Sounds like #2 is what I need to do, but my problem with that is that it sounds like it would use the standard modalviewcontroller animations that are nothing like the device rotation animation. (Of course, being the lazywebber that I am, I did not test this hypothesis.) So, how do I load an alternative layout for landscape with the same viewcontroller but different XIB? Should I use the method #2 above and is the rotation animation natural? Or is there some other way?

  • UIView Clipped By Statusbar until Autorotate

    - by TonyNeallon
Hi There, Ive created a multiview application that uses multiple controllers to display and control views. The problem Im having is, when the simulator initially loads the view the header is partially covered by the bar at top of screen and the tool bar at the base is not touching the base of the screen. I used the Interface builder size attributes to control the view when the iphone rotates and it works perfectly. All smaps into place perfectly both in landscape and portrait mode AFTER a rotation but the problem is with the initial load before a rotation occurs. Your thoughts a much appreciated. Tony

  • how to target css to iPad but exclude Safari 4 desktop using a media query?

    - by miriam835work
I am trying to use a media rule to target css to iPad only. I want to exclude iPhone/iPod and desktop browsers. I would like to to also exclude other mobile devices if possible. I have used <style type="text/css" media="only screen and (min-device-width: 768px) and (max-device-width: 1024px)"> but just found out that desktop Safari 4 reads it. I have tried variations with "481px" instead of "768px" and another that adds an orientation to that: <style type="text/css" media="only screen and (min-device-width: 481px) and (max-device-width: 1024px) and (orientation:portrait)"> but not luck. (Later we will be sniffing user-agent strings for iPad, but for now that solution won't work.) Thanks!

  • Two UITabBarControllers and Autorotation

    - by optimisticmonkey
I have two UITabBarControllers in my mainwnidow.nib wired to my appdelegate. In my app delegate, I can load either one: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { //either [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; //or [window addSubview:tabBar2Controller.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } and autorotation works. If I add both (with the expectation to swap between them later): [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; [window addSubview:tabBar2Controller.view]; then autorotation stops working...everything is always portrait. Thanks in advance for any tips...

  • Presenting UIModalViews in Landscap mode

    - by Dominik
Hello, I'm trying to present some UIModalFormSheets in a my iPad application. It's working without any problems, except one thing: When I have my iPad in landscape mode my modal form sheet is moving to the center of the screen and THEN rotates into the appropiate angle. All I want is to present the modal form sheet in the right angle according to the view mode (portrait or landscape), BEFORE it is displayed, so that the user doesn't see this rotation. I have tried all the modes for modalTransitionStyle and modalPresentationStyle, but nothing seems to prevent the modal form sheet from rotating after it is displayed. This is what I'm doing: NewFavouriteSheet *newFavouriteSheet = [[NewFavouriteSheet alloc] initWithNibName:@"NewFavouriteSheet" bundle:nil]; newFavouriteSheet.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; [self presentModalViewController:newFavouriteSheet animated:NO]; Does anyone has a suggestion on how to show the modal view in a correct way? Thanks for help. Dominik

  • iphone/ipad application - taking screen shot

    - by satyam
    I successfully implemented an application that works on ipad as well as on iphone. In that I provided option to user to send the screen shot of the application as mail attachment. Even that is functioning well. But my code is taking screen shot irrespective of orientation. The image i'm getting is always in portrait mode. I want to take the screen shot depending on the orientation of ipad/iphone and send the image as attachment. I'm using following code to take the screen shot. UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(screenWindow.frame.size); [screenWindow.layer renderInContext:UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext()]; UIImage *screenshot = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext();

  • Android: Saving custom button and spinner

    - by Jacob Huggart
Hello All, I am new to Android programming and was handed a fairly large program that is almost complete, but needed support for switching between portrait and landscape view. I added android:configChanges="keyboardHidden|orientation" to the manifest and used onConfigurationChanged to save the view data and that works. However, there is a button that displays the date selected (when pressed a calendar to select the date comes up) and a spinner that displays the current view and is used to select a new view. Those two items are being cleared/reset and do not work at all after the screen flip. I have been attempting to use onSaveInstanceState and onRestoreInstanceState to fix that, but I cannot figure out how to get it to work. Any advice?

  • NavBar displaying back twice when app changed to landscape mode

    - by Graeme
Hi, Not sure what's going on here, but my iPhone apps nav bar shows back and the title of my detail view controller even when I'm back to the original view. It wasn't happening earlier, it has changed recently (but not sure when exactly). E.g. I click on a row, view the didSelectRow XIB and then click back on the NavBar controller, but it still shows back even though the view does change back to the original table view. I then have to press back again and then it clears. Update: It's as if its trying to go back three times instead of two. Because, if you visit another row without removing the back button, it stores it as if you need to go back twice. It works fine in portrait mode. Any ideas?

  • CSS for mobile sometimes reverts back to original

    - by Jessie
So most of the time my stylesheets appear properly. The standard/original one always works flawlessly, however it seems sometimes the mobile one is disregarded when looked at from a mobile device I have them designated as follows: <link runat="server" href="CustomStyleSheets/Menu.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="CustomStyleSheets/mobile.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="only screen and (max-device-width: 799px)" /> I'm using a Droid X to view the page, in portrait mode, so the device width shouldn't be exceeding the max-width specified above, but sometimes, randomly, it still reverts back to the original css page. Any way to keep it from doing so?

  • How to restrict html body width when not displayed on iPhone?

    - by Curyous
I have set up a web page to look good on the small screen of an iPhone, but when viewed on the desktop, and going right across the width of the browser, it looks terrible. Is there a way I can restrict the width to say, 480px when viewed on a big screen? I tried body { margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; max-width:480px; } but it seems to just set the width at 480px, even on an iPhone on portrait mode.

  • Trying to generate proportionally cropped thumbnails at a fixed width/height with PHP GD

    - by Chuck
I'm trying to create a Thumbnail Generator in PHP with GD that will take an image and reduce it to a fixed width/height. The square it takes from the original image (based on my fixed width/height) will come from the center of the image to give a proportionally correct thumbnail. I'll try to demonstrate that confusing sentence with some nice ASCII :} LANDSCAPE EXAMPLE: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX PORTRAIT EXAMPLE: XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX OOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX As you can see, it pulls out a square from the center of the image to use as a thumbnail. It seems simple, in theory, to get the height/width of the image and then calculate the offset based on my fixed width/height to get the thumbnail. But I can't seem to think of a way to code it :/ Also, how would I go about resizing the image before pulling out the center square? So the thumbnail contains a detailed image of the original rather than some zoomed in graphic?

  • UIWebView: Media Player Rotates View Controller

    - by RileyE
I'm encountering an issue while using a webview. My app is currently a portrait application, but when a media player loads in a webview within my app, the user can rotate the player, which rotates my view controller as well. I know I can get a notification for when the player comes up and disappears, but is there a way to prevent it from rotating the controller in the first place? It doesn't seem like anyone has an answer. I have all of the standard "don't rotate unless if I tell you to" methods and plist values, but its still rotating. Its only when I load up a webview and the media player loads over it. If I rotate my device, the media player rotates along with it, which feels natural, but when I go back to the webview view controller, its rotated, which isn't good.

  • PresentModalViewController from within UISplitViewController: weird behavior in landscape mode

    - by Krumelur
Hi, I've been using PresentModalViewController a lot and never had any issues. But when showing a modal controller from within any controller hosted by a UISplitViewController I get strange orientation bugs. In my table view (which is root controller of the UISplitView), when a cell is touched, I call: MyController oModal = new MyController(); oModal.ModalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.FormSheet; oModal.ModalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyle.CrossDissolve; this.PresentModalViewControll(oModal, true); If the iPad is in Portrait, all is okay. If it is in landscape however, the modal controller fades in but its orientation is incorrect. Then, after fading in has finished, it suddenly flips 90 degrees and adjusts to correct orientation. I have overriden ShouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation(), so that cannot be it. Ideas? René

  • iPhone Application: force landscape mode, strange behaviour...?

    - by David Lawson
This is a method I use to switch display views, based on a string passed (for example you could pass MainMenuViewController to switch views to a new instance of that class): - (void)displayView:(NSString *)newView { NSLog(@"%@", newView); [[currentView view] removeFromSuperview]; [currentView release]; UIViewController *newView = [[NSClassFromString(newView) alloc] init]; [[newView view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)]; [self setCurrentView:newView]; [[self view] addSubview:[currentView view]]; } I have my application forced into landscape view (.plist and -shouldRotate), but if you look in the code: [[newView view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)]; I have to set the frame of the newView to a portrait frame for the view to be displayed correctly - otherwise, for example, a button on the new view can only be pressed in certain parts of the screen (rectangle up the top), unresponsive anywhere else. Even though in all my NIB files they are set to landscape.
