Hi, Following CodeIngiter's installation instructions, I extracted CodeIgniter into XAMPP's htdocs folder and placed its index.php at the root. When I navigated to the following url h t t p://127.0.0.1/index.php I got the following error messages: Warning: require_once(C:\xampp\htdocs/system/codeigniter/CodeIgniter.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\xampp\htdocs\index.php on line 115 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'C:\xampp\htdocs/system/codeigniter/CodeIgniter.php' (include_path='.;C:\xampp\php\PEAR') in C:\xampp\htdocs\index.php on line 115 When I checked line 115 in the index.php, it stated: require_once BASEPATH.'codeigniter/CodeIgniter'.EXT; Experimenting a little, I put CodeIniter's "system" folder at the root as well, and it worked, providing me access to CodeIgniter's Welcome page, but the instructions did not say to do this. Experimenting further, when I put back the "system" folder and navigated to the original place where the index.php h t t p://127.0.0.1/codeigniter_1.7.2/index.php it worked. But myquestion is, how do I get to the CodeIgniter's welcome page by placing only the index.php in XAMPP's htdocs as instructed by CodeIgniter? Any assistance will be appreciated.

How can I get HTTPD to serve the html/php files and not list/index them when they are in folder for virtual host. Using Centos 6.0

My virtual hosts are configured as below, initally I could not even get to the /public_html/ directory when typing example.com and apache would just serve me up the default welcome page, I would also get the error: Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /var/www/html/example.com/public_html/ in the log . After editing the welcome.conf page (- Index) so it does not show again when I now type example.com the/public_html/ contents (Index.php) are indexed in the browser. SSH Tunnel for Remote Desktop via Intermediary Server Part II

I asked previously how to configure 2 SSH tunnels using an intermediary server in order to run Remote Desktop through them and I managed to make it work. Now, I'm trying to do the same, using the same machines, but in reverse order. Here's the setup: Windows 7 PC in a private network, sitting behind a firewall. Public access Linux server, which has access to the PC. Windows 7 laptop, at home, on which I wish to do Remote Desktop from the PC. I use Putty on the laptop to create a reverse tunnel from it to the Linux server: R60666 localhost:3389. I use Putty on the PC to create a regular tunnel from it to the Linux server: L60666 localhost:60666. I SSH to the Linux sever and I run telnet localhost 60666 and it seems to produce the expected output, as described in the debugging tips that I received here. I try to connect Remote Desktop from the PC to the laptop: localhost:60666. It asks for my username and password, I click OK and it locks my current session on the laptop (so I see the welcome screen on the laptop instead of my desktop), it shows the "Welcome" message in the Remote Desktop screen and then it just goes black. It doesn't disconnect, it doesn't provide any error and I'm not able to perform any actions in the Remote Desktop screen. I tried the same setup with a Windows XP laptop and I'm experiencing the same symptoms. I also tried to use different ports than 60666, but nothing changed. Does anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Update: As pointed out by @jwinders, I'm not able to run telnet PC 3389 from the Linux server directly. Since Windows Firewall has a rule to allow all connections on port 3389, I have no idea what is blocking it. Fortunately, I'm able to create a SSH tunnel from the Linux machine to the PC ssh 3389:localhost:3389 'domain\user'@PC.

Cassandra Remote Connection

I'm not managing to connect to cassandra from outside machines. There is a router on the network but these ports have been triggred Ports: 1024, 7000, 7001, 7199, 9160 And the same ports were forwarded to 192.168.0.10 (where Cassandra is hosted) Cassandra version is 1.0.7 And the settings I think i need to change in cassandra.yaml listen_address: 192.168.0.10 rpc_address: I'm not really sure if I've missed any steps. Any help would be appreciated.

Run FTP session from bash script

I'm trying to write a BASH script to test if an FTP site that I own is running. I therefore want the bash script to connect to the FTP site, log in with a dummy account and redirect the output to a file that I can then grep to confirm that the login succeeded. (I know that putting user/pass in a file is not recommended, but this dummy account is chrooted to one empty directory and can't escape to the shell, and in any case I'm the only user who can login to a shell prompt.) I'm using the BASH shell on Ubuntu. I created a file called "ftp-dummy" which looks like this username password And I then did this from the prompt: adam$ ftp my.ftpsite.com < ftp-dummy This does not work - I don't see the normal welcome message and the output is: Password:Name (my.ftpsite.com:adam) : I tried removing the space between the < and the filename - same result. If I redirect the output to a testfile, the testfile shows: Name (my.ftpsite.com:adam): ?Invalid command And I still get a Password prompt on STDOUT I also tried using echo and get the same result: echo -e "username \npassword \n" | ftp my.ftpsite.com I don't see why I'm not seeing the normal welcome message or why the input is not being read from the file. Difference between accessing a website using Local host and IP address

I have developed an ASP.NET website and deployed into my IIS server. Now to see that my IIS is installed fine, I type local host in my address bar, and I get the welcome screen of IIS and its documentation in a separate window. Now I gave the url of my website http://localhost/mysites/site2/Default.aspx I access my site. Also giving my IP address instead of local host like: http://192.168.1.46/mysites/site2/Default.aspx also works. Just out of curiosity I wanted to see what happens when I give my IP address in addressbar. It asks me a user name and password saying:The server 192.168.1.46:80 requires a user name and password. I donot know what user name and password it is asking, and as of my knowledge I thought localhost points to my own IP address internally. But what is the difference and also what username and password do I need for it? Update: On chrome and IE just giving localhost displays the welcome screen, but on mozilla, localhost is also asking for a username and password.

Segmentation fault on login to mysql

Hello everyone! I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu on my laptop (HP dv7, AMD Dual Core with 4 gigs RAM). I am working on installing my development environment and tools and one of the first things I was working on is getting MySQL installed. The following was my configure statement with options: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --with-big-tables --with-unix-socket-path=/usr/local/mysql/tmp/mysql.sock --with-named-curses-libs=/lib/libncurses.so.5.7 After I did the make;make install, I did the post configuration such as setting the root password and installing the mysqld daemon in its rightful place. My issue is when I try to log in to mysql to start using it, the following shows what happens: $ mysql -u root -p Enter password: Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g. Your MySQL connection id is 1 Server version: 5.1.42 Source distribution Segmentation fault I have searched Google extensively, I have searched through the mysql bugs database and I have yet to find anything that matches my issue. Here is the contents of my my.cnf file, in case you want to see it: $ cat /etc/my.cnf [mysqld] basedir=/usr/local/mysql datadir=/usr/local/mysql socket=/usr/local/mysql/tmp/mysql.sock [mysql.server] user=mysql #basedir=/var/lib [client] socket=/usr/local/mysql/tmp/mysql.sock [mysqld_safe] err-log=/usr/local/mysql/logs/mysqld.log pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid I am really hoping that someone here can tell me what has gone wrong with my installation as I would really love to know. samba4 dc "network location cannot be reached"

to clear the air centos 6.4? (maybe 6.3) as the server, running samba 4.0.10, trying to add a windows 7 client that has connectivity to the server. this is what windows shouts as me as it mocks my dependence on network infrastructure. "the network location cannot be reached." i have access to the domain contoller (dc) im using the dc as the domain name server (dns) already, and the name is correctly resolving, and it is correctly forwarding outbound traffic. i have nothing but self taught experience with active directory(ad) so if i am missing something obvious, please shout it out, but keep the verbal abuse to a minimum. i checked samba4DC + my error and found nothing relevant to my issue, if i missed something please point me in that direction. the weekend is just starting as i write this so i probably wont be back on to check this post for a day or three, but i might because this mystery is killing me. i followed the samba4 as a dc guide here and i supplimented gaps with this i have tested kerberos, ntp, and set my DC as the clock to sync to in my windows client and it appears to be a very small fraction of a second off so that shouldn't be it. also, firewall and selinux are both off for testing. i have also tried disabling ipv6, and cleared the registry of ipv6 records (allegedly the default samba4 as a DC runs as windows server 2003 which allegedly does not support or tolerate the existence of ipv6, fair warning, i heard this on the internet so it is probably a lie) i have tried a few other things that i have forgotten because i have been doing this for a day and a half now. ideas welcome. suggestions for alternatives are also welcome, as long as they are free. i was given a budget of $0 dollars and told to implement active directory (no prior knowledge of active directory at that point).

How do I diagnose the cause of a freeze after resuming in Windows XP (SP3)?

I have just built a new computer from parts. Whenever I resume from any sleep mode (S1, S3 or S4) the computer freezes within about 60 seconds of the welcome screen appearing. I have updated the BIOS and all drivers to current from the motherboard manufacturer's site. I have reset BIOS settings to default, including disabling AMD Cool n Quiet. The windows event logs are not helpful at all. Other than immediately after resuming the system is stable as long as AMD CnQ is disabled. The system is: Mobo : MSI 790GX-G65 CPU : AMD Phenom II 965 BE at 3.6 GHz Memory : Corsair DDR3 1600, at 1333 MHz and 9-9-9-21 HDDs : 1 EIDE, 2 SATA in RAID-0 DVD : 1 Card Reader: 1 multi-card reader Keyboard is attached via PS2 and mouse is USB. Any thoughts or pointers would be most welcome. EDIT: It appears that the computer may not freeze if a program is left running which puts it under significant load. I left a stress test running which keeps all cores under 85% load, and my son put the computer to sleep - while this program is running it I have been able to resume from S3 successfully 4 times, compared against about 20 tests with the computer idle which have all frozen. So this may be related to being in an idle state when it resumes.

Windows 7 automatically logs out when logging in

A Windows 7 HP x64 computer is set to automatically log in (no password), but once it starts logging in, it starts to load the desktop after the welcome screen, but before icons or background images are loaded, it goes to the Welcome screen saying 'Logging Off'. I can log in with Safe Mode, and I ran a couple different virus scans, with no detections. I also tried checking the userinit.exe file in System32 (as suggested by MANY users for Windows XP), but it's the same version as a working system. I also checked the registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon for the SHELL and UserInit values, but they look normal. I tried to disable all startup items (through MSCONFIG) to select Diagnostic boot, but then I get a blue screen about the video driver not loading. Any other ideas? EDIT I created a new user, and it could log in no problems. I am thinking it's the NTUSER.DAT file. I just renamed it to NTUSER.DAT.old, then tried logging in as the problem user. I could log in, but as a TEMP profile. His profile folder is now C:\Users\TEMP, and his old folder is still accessible but in the wrong location. EDIT 2 I can't seem to turn off the TEMP profile, so I'm open to other suggestions. Copying the folders (i.e. Documents, Music, etc) does not work, as it creates an additional TEMP.000 then TEMP.001 folder each time the user logs in.

spring mvc 3.0 small web application not quite working

Hi, i'm creating a very simple (hello World quality) web application using spring mvc 3.0. when deploying the application on tomcat 6.0.26 and i try to open http://localhost:8080/protoweb/helloWorld.html i get 404, resource /protoweb/WEB-INF/jsp/helloWorld.jsp is not available. Socket php server not showing messages sent from android client

Hi I am a newbie in these kind of stuff but here's what i want to do. I am trying to implement a chat application in which users will send their queries from the website and as soon as the messages are sent by the website users.It will appear in the android mobile application of the site owner who will answer their queries .In short I wanna implement a live chat. Now right now I am just simply trying to send messages from android app to php server. But when I run my php script from dreamweaver in chrome the browser keeps on loading and doesn't shows any output when I send message from the client. Sometimes it happened that the php script showed some outputs which I have sent from the android(client).But i don't know when it works and when it does not. So I want to show those messages in the php script as soon as I send those messages from client and vice versa(did not implemented the vice versa for client but help will be appreciated). Travelling MVP #1: Visit to SharePoint User Group Finland

My first self organized trip this autumn was visit to SharePoint User Group Finland community evening. As active community leaders who make things like these possible they are worth mentioning and on spug.fi side there was Jussi Roine the one who invited me. Here is my short review about my trip to Helsinki. User group meeting As Helsinki is near Tallinn I went there using ship. It was easy to get from sea port to venue and I had also some minutes of time to visit academic book store. Community evening was held on the ground floor of one city center hotel and room was conveniently located near hotel bar and restaurant. Here is the meeting schedule: Welcome (Jussi Roine) OpenText application archiving and governance for SharePoint (Bernd Hennicke, OpenText) Using advanced C# features in SharePoint development (Alexey Sadomov, NED Consulting) Optimizing public-facing internet sites for SharePoint (Gunnar Peipman) After meeting, of course, local dudes doesn’t walk away but continue with some beers and discussion. Sessions After welcome words by Jussi there was session by Bernd Hennicke who spoke about OpenText. His session covered OpenText history and current moment. After this introduction he spoke about OpenText products for SharePoint and gave the audience good overview about where their SharePoint extensions fit in big picture. I usually don’t like those vendors sessions but this one was good. I mean vendor dudes were not aggressively selling something. They were way different – kind people who introduced their stuff and later answered questions. They acted like good guests. Second speaker was Alexey Sadomov who is working on SharePoint development projects. He introduced some ways how to get over some limitations of SharePoint. I don’t go here deeply with his session but it’s worth to mention that this session was strong one. It is not rear case when developers have to make nasty hacks to SharePoint. I mean really nasty hacks. Often these hacks are long blocks of code that uses terrible techniques to achieve the result. Alexey introduced some very much civilized ways about how to apply hacks. Alex Sadomov, SharePoint MVP, speaking about SharePoint coding tips and tricks on C# I spoke about how I optimized caching of Estonian Microsoft community portal that runs on SharePoint Server and that uses publishing infrastructure. I made no actual demos on SharePoint because I wanted to focus on optimizing process and share some experiences about how to get caches optimized and how to measure caches. Networking After official part there was time to talk and discuss with people. Finns are cool – they have beers and they are glad. It was not big community event but people were like one good family. Developers there work often for big companies and it was very interesting to me to hear about their experiences with SharePoint. One thing was a little bit surprising for me – SharePoint guys in Finland are talking actively also about Office 365 and online SharePoint. It doesn’t happen often here in Estonia. I had to leave a little bit 21:00 to get to my ship back to Tallinn. I am sure spug.fi dudes continued nice evening and they had at least same good time as I did. Do I want to go back to Finland and meet these guys again? Yes, sure, let’s do it again! :)

Stuck due to "knowing too much"

Currently, this question is viewed by the membership of Programmers.SE as more likely to provoke unproductive discussion than constructive answers; while debates on its form and future are conducted, it will be locked to prevent arguments and vandalism. -- Shog9 I have a relatively simple development task, but every time I try to attack it, I end up spiraling in deep thoughts - how could it extending the future, what are the 2nd generation clients going to need, how does it affect "non functional" aspects (e.g. Performance, authorization...), how would it best be architectured to allow change... I remember myself a while ago, younger and, perhaps, more eager. The "me" I was then wouldn't have given a thought about all that - he would've gone ahead and wrote something, then rewrote it, then rewrote it again (and again...). The "me" today is more hesitant, more careful. I find it much easier today to sit and plan and instruct other people on how to do things than to actually go ahead and do them myself - not because I don't like to code - the opposite, I love to! - but because every time I sit at the keyboard, I end up in that same annoying place. Is this wrong? Is this a natural evolution, or did I drive myself into a rut? Fair disclosure - in the past I was a developer, today my job title is a "system architect". Good luck figuring what it means - but that's the title. Wow. I honestly didn't expect this question to generate that many responses. I'll try to sum it up. Reasons: Analysis paralysis / Over engineering / gold plating / (any other "too much thinking up-front can hurt you"). Too much experience for the given task. Not focusing on what's important. Not enough experience (and realizing that). Solutions (not matched to reasons): Testing first. Start coding (+ for fun) One to throw away (+ one API to throw away). Set time constraints. Strip away the fluff, stay with the stuff. Make flexible code (kinda opposite to "one to throw away", no?). Thanks to everyone - I think the major benefit here was to realize that I'm not alone in this experience. I have, actually, already started coding and some of the too-big things have fallen off, naturally. Since this question is closed, I'll accept the answer with most votes as of today. When/if it changes - I'll try to follow.

Ubuntu + Wacom Intuos 4 + MyPaint HELP!

Please keep in mind I'm not that computer savvy, but I will try any suggestion so please help me out! My tablet will stop working if the USB connection is ever broken, or the Ubuntu software is being updated. Sometimes it will stop working for no reason that I can see. The lights will still be on, but it won't be responsive. It doesn't work again until I restart the laptop with the tablet plugged in, which is grating if you have to do it every 25 min. or so... I'm not sure if the issue is with the port, the tablet/cable or the driver but any suggestions would be very welcome! Also, MyPaint is frequently having hiccups. It seems to save fine but at times it will randomly close down and when I open files they're often empty. They turn into 0Kb files and only contain a single empty layer. Also very grating, considering I lose days of work for no clear reason and without any heads up. Again, I'm not sure if the issue is with the port, the tablet/cable or the driver but any suggestions would be very welcome! Before you say it: yes, this "question" has been asked other times. However, I could not fine many of such questions and not that easily, and those I found had similar results. What I'm trying to say that there are no comprehensive lists of well written Open Source projects, so I decided to set some requirements for the entries (one or possibly more): Idiomatic use of the language in which they are written The project should be lightweight. Not as in "a few kbs", as in "clean" and possibly following the UNIX philosophy, making an efficient use of resources and performing its duty and nothing more. No code bloat, most importantly. Projects like Firefox and GNOME wouldn't qualify, for example. Minimal reliance on external, non-standard libraries, with exceptions for some common FOSS libraries (curses, Xlib, OpenGL and possibly "usual suspects" like gtk+, webkit and Boost). Reliance on well-written libraries is welcome. No reliance on proprietary software - for obvious reasons (programs that rely on XNA, DirectX, Cocoa and similar, for example). Well-documented code is welcome. Include link to web interfaces to their repositories if possible. Here are some sample projects that often pop up in these threads: Operating Systems Plan 9 from Bell Labs: More or less, the official "sequel" to UNIX. Written in C by the same people who invented C! NetBSD: The most portable BSD implementation, written in C and also a good example of portable and organized code. Network and Databases Sqlite: Extremely lightweight and extremely efficient, one of the best pieces of C software I've seen. Count the lines yourself! Lighttpd: A small but pretty reliable web server written in C. Programming languages and VMs Lua: extremely lightweight multi-paradigm programming language. Written in C. Tiny C Compiler: Really tiny C compiler. Not really comparable to GCC or Clang but does its job. PyPy: A Python implementation written in Python. Pharo: OK, I admit it, I'm not really a Smalltalk expert but Pharo is a fork of Squeak and looked rather interesting. Stackless Python - An implementation of Python that doesn't rely on the C call stack - written in C (with some parts in Python) Games and 3D: Angband: One of the most accessible roguelike codebases around here, written in C. Ogre3D: Cross-platform 3D engine. Gets bloated if you don't skip the platform-specific implementation code, otherwise is a pretty solid example of good C++ OO. Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection: Title says it all. Other - dwm: Lightweight window manager. Written in C. Emulation and Reverse Engineering - Bochs: x86 emulator, written in C++ and tiny enough. - MAME: If you want to see C at one of its lowest levels, MAME is for you. May not be as clean as the other projects but it can teach you A LOT. Before you ask: I didn't mention Linux because it has become quite bloated in the last few years, Linus has also confirmed it. Nonetheless, it'd be a great educational read the same, even if for other reasons. Same for GCC. Feel free to edit or wikify my post.
