• What's the best way to add some particle or laser effects to an already animated character?

  I just purchased some rigged and animated robot characters from 3drt for a game I'm making in unity. I would like to be able to add some weapon effects to the characters. For example, I would like for the robots to be able to shot lasers out of the hands at enemies. I have know idea where to even start with this task as I'm more of a programmer than a graphics guy. Can some experienced developers / designers please point me in a good direction? Thanks. Note: As of right now I have maya and blender installed on my computer.

• Is there a simple shopping cart I can add to my existing website?

  I created a website for my wife, who knits scarves. The site simply displays the 18 different colours she has created, with a Lightbox-like large photo available when clicked. She would now like to give visitors the option to purchase online and pay with PayPal and possibly Google Checkout. We do not need a full ecommerce solution; I've looked at several and they all seem to be overkill for our requirements. We don't even need categories. "All" I want is something that will add products to a cart, take the customer details and integrate the payment provider. So far, the best solution I have found seems to be this script on Codecanyon and I wanted to find out if anyone knows of any better products before I commit to this route. Thanks for your help!

  I'm working on a Pong clone in XNA. Gameplay-wise, I have it where I want it to be. I want to add a title screen and some other screens to it like a menu, as well as a screen for the Winning/Losing results. I've tried the Game State Management Example on the App Hub site, but It's very complicated and I haven't been able to make sense of it. Is there a simpler way? I'm hoping for a solution that can be used in other projects too. Plus I'd like to know how to actually create menu items (basically, how do I display the different options on it, and highlight them, etc).

The email part is not difficult, but I am wondering where to find a good solution for sending SMS messages.   How do I get my webpage not to go back when they hit the back button and are logged out and how can I add a web page to be blocked like FACEBOOK doesn't let you get into their site with out having a page or a account with them, and if you try to put something in the url and try to go to something on their site it gives you a web page that says "you have to be logged in first" . Like I don't want someone going to the url of the "index" page before they have signed up as a member they need to make an account first then they can have access to the "index" page. How do I do this. I have a website so far that has a database and the website has 5 pages so far and two of them which is the login and sign up page which are both used with php and mysql and they work fine. How do I restrict access to the main website by first having the users sign up with me for an account.

  I have a rather cool space invaders game that my friend and I have been working on for a while, and we have decided it needs an opening page, with "Start" options, "Quit" options and so forth. I have looked at several methods online, but cant seem to get any of them to work! Does anybody have any ideas? P.S Using JFrame to draw the main frame Im just looking to do this within Java, so just a panel that appears at a state change (GAME, MENU).   In Google Chrome, if I select a piece of text and right click on it, I get the option to: 'Search Google for [text]' I find this extremely useful but I'd also like to be able to add my own options. For example, I'd like to add the ability to search amazon.co.uk using the selected text or go straight to Google maps using the selected text (i.e. an address or postcode) and so on. I can sort of add this functionality using PhraseExpress but would rather be able to do it straight from Chrome - is it possible?

The domain is over 10 years old, approximately 10 thousand indexed pages, and the planned addition is approx. 30K new pages. Any idea how we should go about it?   I have a small AI framework for a shooting based game. Although this is rarely needed, as when agents are close to each other they are usually fighting, I would none the less like some way of implementing avoidance behaviour. For example, if in the future I wanted to take away their weapons and have many of them wonder around in a crowd, how would I make them not hit / pass through each other, but instead avoid each other? two ideas I had would be to add steering behaviour and allow that to deviate from their path, or to use a dynamic pathfinding technique. Are there better ways? What is the more respected practice?

  So I'm continuing my fight with this : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2923545/creating-java-dialogs/2926126 task. Now my JOptionPane opens new window with envelope overfiew, but I can't change size of this window. Also I wanted to have sender's data in upper left corner, and receiver's data in bottom right. How can I achieve that ? There is also issue with OptionPane itself. After I click 'OK' it opens small window in the upper left corner of the screen. What is this and why it's appearing ?   Many years ago, C compilers were not particularly smart. As a workaround K&R invented the register keyword, to hint to the compiler, that maybe it would be a good idea to keep this variable in an internal register. They also made the tertiary operator to help generate better code. As time passed, the compilers matured. They became very smart in that their flow analysis allowing them to make better decisions about what values to hold in registers than you could possibly do. The register keyword became unimportant. FORTRAN can be faster than C for some sorts of operations, due to alias issues. In theory with careful coding, one can get around this restriction to enable the optimizer to generate faster code. What coding practices are available that may enable the compiler/optimizer to generate faster code? Identifying the platform and compiler you use, would be appreciated. Why does the technique seem to work? Sample code is encouraged. Here is a related question [Edit] This question is not about the overall process to profile, and optimize. Assume that the program has been written correctly, compiled with full optimization, tested and put into production.   When creating a skin in ADF Faces, it's (relatively) easy to add locale aware CSS using the :rtl psuedo-class on the end of a skinning key.  Example:af|inputListOfValues::content {  padding-left: 3px;}af|inputListOfValues::content:rtl {  padding-left: 0px;  padding-right: 3px;}In this example, we want some padding before the start of the text in the content element of the component.  In right to left locales, the start of the text is on the right side by default, so we need to change the padding from the left to the right.Let's say, however, that you want to specify a locale aware CSS style on an individual component using the contentStyle attribute.  There is a handy ADF Faces EL function to help you out here: isRTL.  For our example, let's say we want an inputText component whose text content is 'end' aligned.  If you weren't considering RTL locales, you could code this as:<af:inputText id="idInputTextRight" label="right aligned" value="Test"                    contentStyle="text-align: right;"/>This, however, will be right aligned regardless of locale. • Did 12.04 just add multi-touch gesture support mid-release?

  I was reviewing the updates I was about to download today and I noticed that a lot of them had to do with gesture support, noticed that many of these were new installs rather than upgrades. Has 12.04 just added multi-touch gesture support mid-release? If so, what are the capabilities that this adds? Which applications already support these capabilities and can I expect others to add support in the near future? Here are the packages that were installed: Install: libframe6:amd64 (2.2.4-0ubuntu0.12.04.1), libgeis1:amd64 (2.2.9.2-0ubuntu1), libgrail5:amd64 (3.0.6-0ubuntu0.12.04.01, automatic) And here are those that were upgraded (also including many with touch support): Upgrade: libgrip0:amd64 (0.3.4-0ubuntu2~ubuntu12.04.1, 0.3.5-0ubuntu1~12.04.1), eog:amd64 (3.4.2-0ubuntu1, 3.4.2-0ubuntu1.1), ginn:amd64 (0.2.4-0ubuntu1, 0.2.4.1-0ubuntu1) Of which the descriptions for the new installs are, libgeis1: Gesture engine interface support A common API for clients of a systemwide gesture recognition and propagation engine. libframe6: Touch Frame Library This library handles the buildup and synchronization of a set of simultaneous touches. Adding in a ton of new libraries and upgrading the existing components makes me wonder if 12.04 is meant to start natively supporting gestures other than two finger scroll in the near future. I expected these capabilities to be introduced soon but I thought that they would only be rolled out in a new release, not as upgrades for an existing release. Anyone have any info about this?

• Is there a way to add unique items to an array without doing a ton of comparisons?

  Please bare with me, I want this to be as language agnostic as possible becuase of the languages I am working with (One of which is a language called PowerOn). However, most languanges support for loops and arrays. Say I have the following list in an aray: 0x 0 Foo 1x 1 Bar 2x 0 Widget 3x 1 Whatsit 4x 0 Foo 5x 1 Bar Anything with a 1 should be uniqely added to another array with the following result: 0x 1 Bar 1x 1 Whatsit Keep in mind this is a very elementry example. In reality, I am dealing with 10's of thousands of elements on the old list. Here is what I have so far. Pseudo Code: For each element in oldlist For each element in newlist Compare If values oldlist.element equals newlist.element, break new list loop If reached end of newlist with with nothing equal from oldlist, add value from old list to new list End End Is there a better way of doing this? Algorithmicly, is there any room for improvement? And as a bonus qeustion, what is the O notation for this type of algorithm (if there is one)?

  Working on a C# WinForms program that is written in a MVC ( actually Model-View-Presenter) style and I want to add a few lines of code that is responsible for logging some events. Where should I write two or three lines of code that I need? Should I write it in the Presenter section?
