• Can't enumerate LinQ results with left join

• Splash screen moves up before closing

  In C# I am having a problem with the splash screen. When it is time to close and the main Form1 appears, it moves over to the upper right corner of Form1. It then disappears. I have never had this occur before and have just about run out of ideas to fix it. I want the splash screen to disappear in the center screen and not move over to the upper corner of the opening Form1. • Why do I not see stricter scoping more often?

  I've found myself limiting scope fairly often. I find it makes code much clearer, and allows me to reuse variables much more easily. This is especially handy in C where variables must be declared at the start of a new scope. Here is an example of what I mean. { int h = 0; foreach (var item in photos) { buffer = t.NewRow(); h = item.IndexOf("\\x\\"); buffer["name"] = item.Substring(h, item.Length - h); t.Rows.Add(buffer); } } With this example, I've limited the scope of h, without initializing it in every iteration. But I don't see many other developers doing this very often. Why is that? Is there a downside to doing this?

  A canvas is received from the server, and an image brush is extracted from the canvas via searching for a bunch of pathes. In summary, Canvas - Path - Path.Fill - ImageBrush. • In WPF using a ListView is there an elegant way to auto resize items?

  I recently wrote, my first, WPF application that has a list of items that are polled from a web-serivce. The items are displayed/data-bound in a ListView via a GridView. A background thread periodically polls the web-serivce and updates the list. If, say, I had three items initially bound to the ListView that simply display a description and the three descriptions where something like: - ProjectA - ProjectB - ProjectC Later a new item is added with a description of 'AReallyReallyLongProjectName', I would end up with a list like: - ProjectA - ProjectB - ProjectC - AReallyR The GridViewColumn would not update it's width and would subsequently cut off any new items that extended the original width. I added this bit of code which forces the column to resize, but it just seems a little hacky. (Just seems weird to set a width just to set it back to nothing to force the resize) if(gridView != null) { foreach(var column in gridView.Columns) { if (double.IsNaN(column.Width) column.Width = column.ActualWidth; column.Width = double.NaN; } } Is there a better, more elegant solution, to accomplish this same thing?

I have been messing with this all afternoon and the PC is about to go out the window. I would have thought that preg_match("/"$x.'$',$f"/") would have worked but no dice. Any help would be great. • How do I transfer this logic into a LINQ statement?

  I can't get this bit of logic converted into a Linq statement and it is driving me nuts. I have a list of items that have a category and a createdondate field. I want to group by the category and only return items that have the max date for their category. So for example, the list contains items with categories 1 and 2. The first day (1/1) I post two items to both categories 1 and 2. The second day (1/2) I post three items to category 1. The list should return the second day postings to category 1 and the first day postings to category 2. Right now I have it grouping by the category then running through a foreach loop to compare each item in the group with the max date of the group, if the date is less than the max date it removes the item. There's got to be a way to take the loop out, but I haven't figured it out!

  Hello, I'm currently working on an application where I need to load data from an SQL database and then assign the retrieved values into the properties of an object. I'm doing this by using reflection since the property names and column names are the same. However, many of the properties are using a custom struct type that is basically a currency wrapper for the decimal type. I have defined an implicit conversion in my struct: public static implicit operator Currency(decimal d) { return new Currency(d); } This works fine when I use it in code. However, when I have this: foreach (PropertyInfo p in props) { p.SetValue(this, table.Rows[0][p.Name], null); } It throws an ArgumentException stating that it cannot convert from System.Decimal to Currency. I'm confused since it works fine in any other circumstance.

  Hello! I have an interface that, among other things, implements a "public IEnumerator GetEnumerator()" method, so I can use the interface in a foreach statement. I implement this interface in several classes and in one of them, I want to return an empty IEnumerator. • Read tab delimited text file into MySQL table with PHP

  I am trying to read in a series of tab delimited text files into existing MySQL tables. The code I have is quite simple: $lines = file("import/file_to_import.txt"); foreach ($lines as $line_num => $line) { if($line_num > 1) { $arr = explode("\t", $line); $sql = sprintf("INSERT INTO my_table VALUES('%s', '%s', '%s', %s, %s);", trim((string)$arr[0]), trim((string)$arr[1]), trim((string)$arr[2]), trim((string)$arr[3]), trim((string)$arr[4])); mysql_query($sql, $database) or die(mysql_error()); } } But no matter what I do (hence the casting before each variable in the sprintf statement) I get the "You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1" error. I echo out the code, paste it into a MySQL editor and it runs fine, it just won't execute from the PHP script. What am I doing wrong?? Si

• Are delegates copied during assignment to an event?

  Hi, The following code seems to execute the FileRetrieved event more than once. I thought delegates were a reference type. I was expecting this to execute once. I'm going to take a guess and say that the reference is being passed by value, therefore copied but I don't like guesswork :-) public delegate void DirListEvent<T>(T dirItem); void Main() { DirListEvent<string> printFilename = s => { Console.WriteLine (s); }; var obj = new DirectoryLister(); obj.FileRetrieved += printFilename; obj.FileRetrieved += printFilename; obj.GetDirListing(); } public class DirectoryLister { public event DirListEvent<string> FileRetrieved; public DirectoryLister() { FileRetrieved += delegate {}; } public void GetDirListing() { foreach (var file in Directory.GetFiles(@"C:\")) { FileRetrieved(file); } } }
