  I'm wondering that is it possible to convert the executed query result to a list of models. I'm using Ruby with ActiveRecord and need to execute custom SQL query to join two or many tables. The code looks like below: connection = ActiveRecord::Base.connection sql = "select T1.f1, T2.f2 from T1 left join T2 on T1.id = T2.id" @result = connection.execute(sql) In Ruby code, I defined a models to manage the executed SQL result: class Model property :f1, :f2 end Is there any way to convert @result to list of Model object? so I can deal with each item in the list as following @result.each do |item| puts item.f1 puts item.f2 end

• Filtering forms in MS Access

  I have a simple form showing products from my database. Each product has a foreign key to manufacturer_id . I would like to filter my form by manufacturer_id instead of default product_id. How I can do that ? I know I must create a macro. Also I've already created a query, that takes manufacturer's name as argument and returns manufacturer_id. So basically it should work in this way, that when I press 'Filter' button on my form, it runs macro that opens my query asking for manufacturer's name. And when the name is returned the whole form is filtered (so somewhere there should be comparison between manufacturer_id in product and that returned from query, but I can't manage to do that). • Easier way to move a project in Eclipse

  My projects changes location, and I need to tell Eclipse this. Today I just delete the project and import it from the new location. But I have a lot of projects, they change location often and the paths a very complicated. I'd like a better way to manage this in Eclipse. For example: J:\iteration234_abc\foo\bar\baz\iffle\dizzle\Project Only the root-folder changes (iteration-number and the idenfier "abc"). After that there are lot of folders. Many folders has tons of subfolders with similar names, which makes finding the folder with GUI time-consuming and very boring. It would be so nice if I could just edit the path. As you may have guessed: The J-drive is a network drive, provided by the source control system. The way to tell source control that I'm working on another itertion, is to continue my work in a different folder. My actual Eclipse workspace normally doesn't contain any projects.

• InnoDB not supported by webhost. What now?

  I was developing a small WAMP web application on my laptop, where I have an instance of mySQL running and I chose InnoDB for my DB engine. After several weeks' development I wanted to make it available to the public and found out the database server provided by my web host does not support InnoDB, only MyISAM. The create-and-populate script generated from the innoDB schema on my laptop, when executed against the live database, can manage to create individual TABLES but then runs into problems creating the VIEWs. Are views not supported in MyISAM? I know FOREIGN KEYs are not. That's very much why I made the choice of InnoDB... What are my chances of making my innoDB schema design work with myISAM? Is there any straightforward way of converting the whole schema from one storage engine to the other? Should I look for another web host that does provide a mysql db that supports innoDB?

• Core Data data type for just the date - not including time

  I am new at Core Data, and it seems like it is a great way to manage the data store. However I am also very memory-conscious due to the fact that the iPhone doesn't have that much of it. I was a little surprised to see that the data types are so limited - eg. there is a Date type which includes also the time, but no Date type for just the date! All the time information takes up precious bytes of memory, if I just wanted an attribute with the date (e.g. 2/15/2010 rather than 2/15/2010 02:34:48), how could I do this? Is it possible?

• ZeroMQ Java Installation Problem

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to install ZeroMQ's Java library but I've been having problem. First error was ./configure complained about JAVA_HOME which everything seemed to be fine but I couldn't manage to solve it but I've found a particular solution in ZeroMQ's chat logs. The suggested solution was; JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home" ./configure However it doesn't work for me. The error message I've been receiving is checking for jni.h in /Library/Java/Home/include... configure: error: cannot find jni.h in /Library/Java/Home/include. I've tried JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home" ./configure and JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Home" ./configure as well but still no luck. I'd like to hear StackOverflowers' thoughts about how I can solve this. Thanks.

• [C++]Two windows fullscreen on two different screen.

  Hi! I'm actually working on an app to display an image onto a Dome. The dome projection system is constitued of two projector and a pc running a GentoO Linux and KDE, with nvidia TwinView system. Since here i've used SDL to display a fullscreen windows, and it display my app onto the two screen. But i just figured that i need to project two different images, one on each projector. That's why i search for a solution to display a fullscreen window on the first screen (projector) and another on the second. But SDL fullscreen just extend the window to the two screens. I can use any librairie (since it light and free, as i will wrap it into my small "API"), or change display setting. BTW it would be nice to have openGL support, since SDL manage only one window ^^"

• Unusual Subversion Folders Appeared After Update

  Hello Everyone, I have been using Subversion for about 2 years to manage a large C# project. On a recent Subversion update, a number of new folders were added to my source code folder: \conf \db \locks \hooks 35+ files were also added during the update, all appearing under the 4 new folders. I haven't changed any client (I use TortoiseSVN) or server software related to Subversion, so I'm puzzled why these folders and files were suddenly introduced. It also seems strange that files seemingly related to the internal workings of Subversion are now part of my source code repository. Can anyone shed some light on why this happened?   Hello, i'm building a chart and i want to recieve data for each months Here's my first request which is working : SELECT s.GSP_nom AS nom, timestamp, AVG( v.vote + v.prix ) /2 AS avg FROM votes_serveur AS v INNER JOIN serveur AS s ON v.idServ = s.idServ WHERE s.valide =1 AND v.date > CURDATE() -30 GROUP BY s.GSP_nom ORDER BY avg DESC But, in my case i've to write 12 request to recieve datas for the 12 previous months, is there any trick to avoid writing : // example for the previous month AND v.date > CURDATE() -60 AND v.date < CURDATE () -30 I heard about INTERVAL, i went to the mySQL doc but i didn't manage to implement it.   I'm trying to figure out how I can manage my log4j.properties file with leiningen. I'd like to be able to automatically include the file in the jars that lein creates as well as have the properties file be accessible to "lein swank" (and lein repl). Right now I have the file in my project "root", but I get this error when I using logging from swank [null] log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (com.dev). • FluentNhibernate dynamic runtime mappings.

  I am building a framework where people will be able to save items that the created by inheriting a class of mine. I will be iterating over every type in the appdomain to find classes that I want to map to nhibernate. Every class that I find will be a subclass of the inherited type. I know how to create sub types in FluentNhibernate, but every sub type requires its own ClassMap class. Since I won't know these untill runtime, there is no way I can do that. Is there a way that I can add mappings to fluent nhibernate? Note, I know this is possible without fluent nhibernate using the Cfg class, but I don't want to manage the same code two different ways.

  I have some immutable data structures that I would like to manage using reference counts, sharing them across threads on an SMP system. Here's what the release code looks like: void avocado_release(struct avocado *p) { if (atomic_dec(p->refcount) == 0) { free(p->pit); free(p->juicy_innards); free(p); } } Does atomic_dec need a memory barrier in it? If so, what kind of memory barrier? Additional notes: The application must run on PowerPC and x86, so any processor-specific information is welcomed. I already know about the GCC atomic builtins. As for immutability, the refcount is the only field that changes over the duration of the object.

• Django equivalent to paster for backend processes

  I use pylons in my job, but I'm new to django. I'm making an rss filtering application, and so I'd like to have two backend processes that run on a schedule: one to crawl rss feeds for each user, and another to determine relevance of individual posts relative to users' past preferences. In pylons, I'd just write paster commands to update the db with that data. Is there an equivalent in django? EG is there a way to run the equivalent of python manage.py shell in a non-interactive mode?

  I am putting the finishing touches on a customized Google Search for a site and need a little assistance tweaking the header on the results page. I was able to manage the spacing of the results content with: #results4 { width: 620px; padding: 20px; } However you will notice that the top row of information Results 1 - 10 for search... runs off the right side of the content area. I tried using the following code, but it didn't help: .t td { align:left; } I also tried margin-right and padding but those didn't work either. what is the best way to get that content to move over into the content area? thanks.

• Renaming files: Visual Studio vs Version control

  The problem with renaming files is that if you want to take advantage of Visual Studio refactoring, you really need to do it from inside Visual Studio. But most (not all*) version control system also want to be the ones doing the renaming. One solution is to use integrated source control, but this is not always available, and in some cases is pretty clunky. I'd personally be more comfortable using source control separately, outside of Visual Studio, but I'm not sure how to manage this question of file renames. So, for those of you that use Visual Studio, which source control do you use? Do you use a VS integration (which one?) and otherwise, how do you resolve this renaming problem? (* git is smart enough to work it out for itself)

• Document -> Flash viewer, not hosted

  I've got a content management solution where we present scanned images (TIFF), PDFs, word docs for viewing. While we can simply embed a PDF, sometimes depending on user preferences it's a bit fiddly and sometimes not user-intuitive. I'd like a solution like scribd, embedit, etc, but not hosted. I want to run the application on our own servers and manage it that way (for legal reasons, and our clients won't buy the service if it's hosted somewhere else). SWFtools looks a little basic for my needs, plus doesn't do doc, docx or ppt. Any options? Doesn't have to be free, but would be ideal.

  Our organization is at CMMI Level 2, and as part of the requirements of the level, we have to maintain an RTM which more or less contains the following entries for each requirement: Requirement Description Reference Section Functional Specification Document Reference Section Design Document Reference Section Test Cases Document Now, this might be an overkill for a small project. But more importantly, this could be a nightmare to maintain when the requirements/ features keep changing, and documents have to be constantly updated. What do the gurus say about this? Should one avoid such level of documentation or are there any tools to manage when a "change" out dates so many artifacts? And by using the term 'gurus', I am not talking of coding champs; rather people like Steve McConnel or others who have worked on commercial projects of medium to large scale. Quotes/ book references/ articles will suit me. EDIT: It's not just requirements that change. Design Document can change; well, even test cases may change.

• I'm an idiot/blind and I can't find why I'm getting a list index error. Care to take a look at these 20 or so lines?

  Basically it's supposed to take a set of coordinates and return a list of coordinates of it's neighbors. However, when it hits here:if result[i][0] < 0 or result[i][0] >= board.dimensions: result.pop(i) when i is 2, it gives me an out of index error. I can manage to have it print result[2][0] but at the if statement it throws the errors.   I have the following scenario: public class FirstChildService : IChildService { } public class SecondChildService : IChildService { } public class MyService : IService { public MyService(IEnumerable<IChildService> childServices){ ... } } I'm currently registering all the child services and explicitly depending on them in the constructor of MyService, but what I'd like to do is have them all injected as part of a collection. I can think of a few ways to do this: Using a facility Using a component property Registering the collection as a service But all of them feel a bit... icky. What's the best way to manage this? Also, ideally I'd like to do this using the fluent API and constructor injection. • excel number format - varying decimal digits

  I'm trying to set a special cell number format with theses rules: display percentage display at max 3 digits (decimal + integer part) So I can display 100% or 99.3% or 1.27% but not 100.9% or 100.27% or 99.27%. Of course, I can have negative number (-27.3%) and it does not affect my rules. I've try with the cell formating option without success: [<1]0.00%;[<10]0.0%;0% Because it seemed that excel (2010) does not support more than 2 conditions in cell formating (and so I can't expand it to manage negative number...) It there anyway to do what I want? Thanks

  I have some legacy python scripts that manage my shell environment for all the programs and plugins I am running on Linux (bash) and windows (cmd.exe). I want to port this to powershell. How do I set environment variables in powershell by calling python script that prints $env:myVar=myvalue and causes my environment variable to persist in the powershell. In Bash I can use a bash function to call my python script which prints export var=value to stdout and the function will set the environment variables in my shell. This will also work in windows cmd shell by calling a .bat file. I cannot figure out how to do this in powershell. I think it should be something like this: setvar.ps1: function SETVAR {c:\python26\python.exe varconfig.py } varconfig.py: import sys print >> sys.stdout, '$env:myVar=foo'

• PHP: Iterate through folders and display HTML contents

  Hi, I’m currently trying to develop a method to get a overview of all my different web templates I’ve created and (legally) downloaded over the years. I thought about a displaying them like Wordpress is previewing it’s templates view a small preview windows, displaying the concrete file with styles and everything. How to divide them into rows and columns and create AJAX modal window open on preview and pagination and so on I believe I can manage, but it is the concept itself about iterate over several folders then find all index.htm / index.html pages and displaying them. I’ve not worked very much with directories in PHP and the only references and code stumps I’ve found so far is just to list all the files in a certain directory like, what it contains. I would be really grateful if someone knew about a script, a function, snippet or just could get me a nudge in the right direction to create such a (probably simple) preview function.   I insert into asp.net mvc views C# logic that manages layout like the following: <% if (Model.People.Count > 0 ) { %> <% foreach (var person in Model.People) { %> ... <% }} else { %> <span class="error">Sorry, no people</span> <%} %> I try to minimize <% % code placing "{" symbol on the same line as it's condition (java-style). Html layout looks more clear to me after that. Do you apply C# formatting rules to <% % html injections "}" should be on a new line or manage layout in different way? Thank you in advance!
