  • Constructor Injection and when to use a Service Locator

    - by Simon
I'm struggling to understand parts of StructureMap's usage. In particular, in the documentation a statement is made regarding a common anti-pattern, the use of StructureMap as a Service Locator only instead of constructor injection (code samples straight from Structuremap documentation): public ShippingScreenPresenter() { _service = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IShippingService>(); _repository = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IRepository>(); } instead of: public ShippingScreenPresenter(IShippingService service, IRepository repository) { _service = service; _repository = repository; } This is fine for a very short object graph, but when dealing with objects many levels deep, does this imply that you should pass down all the dependencies required by the deeper objects right from the top? Surely this breaks encapsulation and exposes too much information about the implementation of deeper objects. Let's say I'm using the Active Record pattern, so my record needs access to a data repository to be able to save and load itself. If this record is loaded inside an object, does that object call ObjectFactory.CreateInstance() and pass it into the active record's constructor? What if that object is inside another object. Does it take the IRepository in as its own parameter from further up? That would expose to the parent object the fact that we're access the data repository at this point, something the outer object probably shouldn't know. public class OuterClass { public OuterClass(IRepository repository) { // Why should I know that ThingThatNeedsRecord needs a repository? // that smells like exposed implementation to me, especially since // ThingThatNeedsRecord doesn't use the repo itself, but passes it // to the record. // Also where do I create repository? Have to instantiate it somewhere // up the chain of objects ThingThatNeedsRecord thing = new ThingThatNeedsRecord(repository); thing.GetAnswer("question"); } } public class ThingThatNeedsRecord { public ThingThatNeedsRecord(IRepository repository) { this.repository = repository; } public string GetAnswer(string someParam) { // create activeRecord(s) and process, returning some result // part of which contains: ActiveRecord record = new ActiveRecord(repository, key); } private IRepository repository; } public class ActiveRecord { public ActiveRecord(IRepository repository) { this.repository = repository; } public ActiveRecord(IRepository repository, int primaryKey); { this.repositry = repository; Load(primaryKey); } public void Save(); private void Load(int primaryKey) { this.primaryKey = primaryKey; // access the database via the repository and set someData } private IRepository repository; private int primaryKey; private string someData; } Any thoughts would be appreciated. • How to find files according RegEx in C#

    - by bao
I need to get list of files on some drive with paths that matches specific pattern, for example FA\d\d\d\d.xml where \d is digit (0,1,2..9). So files can have names like FA5423.xml. What is the most efficient name to do this?

  • Hadoop in a RESTful Java Web Application - Conflicting URI templates

    - by user1231583
I have a small Java Web Application in which I am using Jersey 1.12 and the Hadoop 1.0.0 JAR file (hadoop-core-1.0.0.jar). When I deploy my application to my JBoss 5.0 server, the log file records the following error: SEVERE: Conflicting URI templates. The URI template / for root resource class org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.web.resources.NamenodeWebHdfsMethods and the URI template / transform to the same regular expression (/.*)? To make sure my code is not the problem, I have created a fresh web application that contains nothing but the Jersey and Hadoop JAR files along with a small stub. My web.xml is as follows: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <web-app version="2.5" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"> <servlet> <servlet-name>ServletAdaptor</servlet-name> <servlet-class>com.sun.jersey.spi.container.servlet.ServletContainer</servlet- class> <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>ServletAdaptor</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/mytest/*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <session-config> <session-timeout> 30 </session-timeout> </session-config> <welcome-file-list> <welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file> </welcome-file-list> </web-app> My simple RESTful stub is as follows: import javax.ws.rs.core.Context; import javax.ws.rs.core.UriInfo; import javax.ws.rs.Path; @Path("/mytest") public class MyRest { @Context private UriInfo context; public MyRest() { } } In my regular application, when I remove the Hadoop JAR files (and the code that is using Hadoop), everything works as I would expect. The deployment is successful and the remaining RESTful services work. I have also tried the Hadoop 1.0.1 JAR files and have had the same problems with the conflicting URL template in the NamenodeWebHdfsMethods class. Any suggestions or tips in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to change the extension of a processed xml file (using eXist & cocoon)

    - by Carsten C.
Hi all, I'm really new to this whole web stuff, so please be nice if I missed something important to post. Short: Is there a possibility to change the name of a processed file (eXist-DB) after serialization? Here my case, the following request to my eXist-db: http://localhost:8080/exist/cocoon/db/caos/test.xml and I want after serialization the follwing (xslt is working fine): http://localhost:8080/exist/cocoon/db/caos/test.html I'm using the followong sitemap.xmap with cocoon (hoping this is responsible for it) <map:match pattern="db/caos/**"> <!-- if we have an xpath query --> <map:match pattern="xpath" type="request-parameter"> <map:generate src="xmldb:exist:///db/caos/{../1}/#{1}"/> <map:act type="request"> <map:parameter name="parameters" value="true"/> <map:parameter name="default.howmany" value="1000"/> <map:parameter name="default.start" value="1"/> <map:transform type="filter"> <map:parameter name="element-name" value="result"/> <map:parameter name="count" value="{howmany}"/> <map:parameter name="blocknr" value="{start}"/> </map:transform> <map:transform src=".snip./webapp/stylesheets/db2html.xsl"> <map:parameter name="block" value="{start}"/> <map:parameter name="collection" value="{../../1}"/> </map:transform> </map:act> <map:serialize type="html" encoding="UTF-8"/> </map:match> <!-- if the whole file will be displayed --> <map:generate src="xmldb:exist:/db/caos/{1}"/> <map:transform src="..snip../stylesheets/caos2soac.xsl"> <map:parameter name="collection" value="{1}"/> </map:transform> <map:transform type="encodeURL"/> <map:serialize type="html" encoding="UTF-8"/> </map:match> So my Question is: How do I change the extension of the test.xml to test.html after processing the xml file? Background: I'm generating some information out of some xml-dbs, this infos will be displayed in html (which is working), but i want to change some entrys later, after I generated the html site. To make this confortable, I want to use Jquery & Jeditable, but the code does not work on the xml files. Saving the generated html is not an option. tia for any suggestions [and|or] help CC Edit: After reading all over: could it be, that the extension is irrelevant and that this is only a problem of port 8080? I'm confused...

  • Are there any drawbacks to class-based Javascript injection?

    - by jonathanconway
A phenomena I'm seeing more and more of is Javascript code that is tied to a particular element on a particular page, rather than being tied to kinds of elements or UI patterns. For example, say we had a couple of animated menus on a page: <ul id="top-navigation"> ... </ul> <!-- ... --> <ul id="product-list"> ... </ul> These two menus might exist on the same page or on different pages, and some pages mightn't have any menus. I'll often see Javascript code like this (for these examples, I'm using jQuery): $(document).ready(function() { $('ul#top-navigation').dropdownMenu(); $('ul#product-selector').dropdownMenu(); }); Notice the problem? The Javascript is tightly coupled to particular instances of a UI pattern rather than the UI pattern itself. Now wouldn't it be so much simpler (and cleaner) to do this instead? - $(document).ready(function() { $('ul.dropdown-menu').dropdownMenu(); }); Then we can put the 'dropdown-menu' class on our lists like so: <ul id="top-navigation" class="dropdown-menu"> ... </ul> <!-- ... --> <ul id="product-list" class="dropdown-menu"> ... </ul> This way of doing things would have the following benefits: Simpler Javascript - we only need to attach once to the class. We avoid looking for specific instances that mightn't exist on a given page. If we remove an element, we don't need to hunt through the Javascript to find the attach code for that element. I believe techniques similar to this were pioneered by certain articles on alistapart.com. I'm amazed these simple techniques still haven't gained widespread adoption, and I still see 'best-practice' code-samples and Javascript frameworks referring directly to UI instances rather than UI patterns. Is there any reason for this? Is there some big disadvantage to the technique I just described that I'm unaware of?

  • Drawing lattices online

    - by lavabo
This isn't really a programming question but... Is there any way to draw online a lattice for a material, like a compound? i.e. a 3D gridlike pattern? I know there are some applications for drawing mathematical lattices, but the notation to me is unfamiliar - are there simply programs or applets or something for drawing lattices like in a compound?

  • Generic data input form in asp.net mvc application

Hello, I have an application that have EF 16 classes that share this information: They all are classes only with a key field and a description. I think it should be a waste if I make a controller with just 1 method just to present a form to fill these classes info, then I was thinking in to make a generic form(with key, description) and dynamically fill the right class through a sort of selection the selected info in any way, any good suggestion or pattern to do that? Where the generic methods should be located.

  • Disadvantage of unlifted type products?

    - by peaker
In Haskell, lifted type products mean that there's a semantic difference between (a,b,c) and (a, (b, c)). If all pattern matches of all products was always irrefutable, then there would be no difference, and (a, b, c) could be syntactic sugar for (a, (b, c)). Why did Haskell choose to lift type products?

  • Compare Database container and class container

I am using a SQL Server database in my current project. I was watching the MVC Storefront videos (specifically the repository pattern) and I noticed that Rob (the creator of MVC Storefront) used a class called Category and Product, instead of a database and I have notice that using LINQ-SQL or ADO.NET, that a class is generated. Is there an advantage to using a class over a database to store information? Or is it the other way around? Or are they even comparable?

  • Building CSS3 Simulated Lightsource on Background

    - by Volomike
Is there a way to take a DIV that has a background image on it, then apply a CSS3 gradient on it to simulate a lightsource? The reason I ask was because I was thinking of making the BODY tag on a page use a repeating background pattern, apply the CSS3 gradient lightsource on it, and then stick a white DIV on top of that where all the page content would go. For those without CSS3, it would degrade nicely into just a white DIV on top of a repeating background.
