  • What programming languages are good for statistics?

    I'm doing a bit more statistical analysis on some things lately, and I'm curious if there are any programming languages that are particularly good for this purpose. I know about R, but I'd kind of prefer something a bit more general-purpose (or is R pretty general-purpose?). What suggestions do you guys have? Are there any languages out there whose syntax/semantics are particularly oriented towards this? Or are there any languages that have exceptionally good libraries?

  • SOAP logging axis2

    Using axis1 it is possible to log incoming/outgoing soap messages by adding logging on HTTPSender in log4j.properties. After migrating to axis2 (version 1.4.1) I have a hard time figuring out how to accomplish the same kind of logging. I have tried to add logging on the axis2 package and org.apache.commons.httpclient but no logging is provided. Any ideas? TIA

    I need to customize my jTable. All I need, is to put a custom Swing object (like jButon, jPanel, etc.) into the table cell. Is it possible? I'm trying: jTable.getModel.setValueAt(jPanel1,0,0) and jTable.getModel.setValueAt(jPanel1.getUI(),0,0) But the result is only a some kind of string, representing the object... Any ideas?

  • Is it common practice to put keywords in html markup for SEO?

    Though it's on the edge of programming questions, I think this is still relevant here, as only those of us actually doing the coding for a site would be considering this. I've been reading more about keyword placement, and it seems to me like a good place to do keyword placement would be in the class and id names chosen for the elements they are representing. I'm not talking about any kind of black-hat keyword stuffing thing but real legitimate use of descriptive keywords for elements. Is this something that is actively done for SEO?

    Hi, Is there a way to disable time and date editing on a Windows Mobile device (via APIs or the registry)? I have an application using the time and date of a Windows Mobile PDA and I don't want the user to change it (the time and date) - unless - he/she has some kind of administrative rights. I haven't find a way to do it with the menus. Is it possible to do it in any other way? Thanks

  • looking to scan documents directly to be uploaded to a webpage

    I was hoping to do this from a flash plugin, kind of how flash accesses the microphone or webcam but it doesn't seem possible. Is this going to be possible using Java, or ActiveX, or some other strategy that I haven't looked at yet? The idea is to do it without a client install, or at least something lightweight and browser and platform independent, (and possibly the moon on a stick as welll ;-))

  • How faster is using an internal IP address instead of an external one?

    I have a mailing list application that sends emails through several dedicated SMTP servers (running Linux Debian 5 and Postfix) in the same network of a hosting company. However, the application is using the servers' external IP addresses in order to connect to them over SMTP, and I was wondering what kind of improvement would be obtained if the application used the internal IP addresses of the servers instead? That is, all input/output is tunneled thru a given interface. Like a kind of restricted javacsript.     I need a way to track all allocations in a .NET application that happen during a single step in the process of debugging my application. I mean, when I'm in the debugger, stepping through code, I would like to see for a single step what allocation took place. Is there a tool or a way to do it? I tried several memory profilers including CLR profiler, JetBrains and .NET Memory Profiler 3.5 and none of them seems to provide this kind of funcionality.
