• Wrong bbox or descent with @font-face and opentype font

  Hey all, I embedded a opentype font with @font-face. Works fine, but the bbox or descent (or baseline/descent line?) is wrong on certain browsers/OSs. The problem is e.g. on a Mac the bbox is not right, that means to center the text in it's bbox I have to set a padding to the paragraph. I guess the font was created on Windows and was not tested on Linux and OS X, and the font rendering engines in these OSs work diffrently. Any idea how to solve withs problem? • OCR Web Service

  I am searching for an OCR web service (eventually open source, preferably free) that simply receives an image and returns the text of the image in writing. I've looked at tesseract, OCRopus and GOCR but the only open server I could find is WeOCR. Unfortunately the detection rates (at least during my tests) are sub-par and the speed is not much better. Does anyone have any experience with OCR web services? I guess the license of tesseract allows the operation of such a service, are there any out there?

• .NET library for generating javascript?

  Do you know of a .NET library for generating javascript code? I want to generate javascript code based on information in my .NET application. I would like to be able to create an AST-like datastructure (using C#) and have it turned into valid javascript. I need to be able to create functions, statements, expressions etc., so I need something more than a JSON serializer - but I guess you could think of this as a (very) generalized JSON serializer. Do such libraries exist and if so, could you recommend any? Thank you.

• Question regarding XST bitstream generation

  Hi all, I have a very simple VHDL module, consisting of a few lines of code. The thing is, when I generate the bitstream, I end up with a huge bitstream. The reason for this is, I guess, that XST adds lots of extra information so that the bitstream can run standalone on a FPGA. However, for my purpose it would be interesting to see the size of the bitstream of the module alone without any extra bits and pieces, just the vaniall module alone. Is there an option in Xilinx ISE 12.1 that allows me to do that? Many thanks, Richi

• Lamp with mod_fastcgi

  Hi! I am building a cgi application, and now I would like it to be like an application that stands and parses each connection, with this, I can have all session variables saved in memory instead of saving them to file(or anyother place) and loading them again on a new connection I am using lamp within a linux vmware but I can't seem to find how to install the module for it to work and what to change in the httpd.conf. I tried to compile the module, but I couldn't because my apache isn't a regular instalation, its a lamp already built one, and it seems that the mod needs the apache directory to be compiled. I saw some coding examples out there, so I guess is not that hard once its runing ok with Apache Can you help me with this please? Thanks, Joe

• Preload *.wav with SystemSoundID?

  I am playing a wav file to give a little audio feedback when a button in my UI is pressed. My question is when you first press the button there is a delay (about 1.5secs) whilst the sound file "sound.wav" is loaded and cached. Is there a way to pre-cache this file (maybe in my viewDidLoad)? I guess I could do it by just playing it a viewDidLoad, but would really need to disable the audio so it does not "beeb" each time the app starts. many thanks for and help. gary EDIT: Looks like my question is a duplicate of this post unless anyone has any new info? Maybe a way to turn the play volume down temporarily, unless the audio is cleared each time through the run loop.

• Using emacs across many hosts

  On a daily basis I: use multiple workstations running either Linux, Windows, or MacOS X edit files on additional Linux hosts that are not any of the workstations mentioned above The only common element here is that the internet connects all of these hosts: workstations and servers. I can keep all of the config files in sync on my workstations too and can run an X server on all of them. What's the right way of running emacs? I don't want to sacrifice any features. In my ideal world I can type 'emacs foo.txt' on a remote host and some magic happens via X forwarding to display the file in my workstation's existing emacs session. Non-solutions tramp: when I'm manipulating a remote host an editor is just part of my workflow. I need a terminal open so I can run other commands quickly. tramp is all wrong for this. ncurses emacs: sucks, I want the graphical kind If you don't have a positive answer to my question, please don't just guess.   I am trying to get the below linq query to return -1 if there isn't any current value. I was looking at this article on MSDN, here, and it seemed that DefaultIfEmpty() was what I wanted. Unfortunately, I am getting a The type arguments cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly. error. I guess I am not sure what that means or what it is telling me to do. • How should I measure Concurrent Licence Usage

  Hi I have detailed stats on user access to my system detailing login and logout times as well as machine used, network username etc. I am in need of measuring what I would term a concurrent user licences level based on this information. Now I could take the maximum logged in for any 1 day in a 3 month period say 170 or I could take the average say 133. Does anyone have or know of a formula for working this out or is it as simple as the high water mark which is 170 in my example. A client has recently gone from an unlimited licence to a concurrent licence so I am faced with the task of setting the initial licence level. There is potential for more licence sales in the future so I don't want it set to high and I do want it based on historical data that the system collects rather than guess work.

• Build an unbound form in Acess 2007

  I have an access application that has a form that allows the user to enter case notes. The main field of this form is tied to a SQL Server varchar(MAX) field in the source table. Since the users switched to Access 2007, their program keeps crashing when they are on the case notes form. As a possible solution to this problem, I would like to try unbinding this form and re-building it as an unbound form. This form needs to be able to add and update records into my SQL Server database. It also needs to be able to browse between records. I guess I am at a loss as to where to start. Any suggestions/code snippets is appreciated.

• Voice Communication over TCP/IP

  Hello, I'm currently developing application using DirectSound for communication on an intranet. I've had working solution using UDP but then my boss told me he wants to use TCP/IP for some reason. I've tried to implement it in pretty much the same way as UDP, but with very little success. What I get is basically just noise. 20% of it is the recorded sound and the rest is just weird noise. My guess for the reason is that TCP needs to read all the accepted data several times until it gets the final sound I can play. Now two questions: Am I on the right tracks? Is it even good idea to use TCP/IP for this kind of application (voice conferencing of sorts)? I'm doing it in C# but I don't think this is language specific.

  I am trying to access maven repository from behind proxy. I configured settings.xml correctly (i guess so...) true http username password 12.34.56.78 8080 But still I am error message like... if i dont configure userid/password gets correct error message which is HTTP response code 407 - saying authentication required. But If I configure correct/incorrect proxy authentication it always prints below error message....   I'm having trouble getting my head around algorithm analysis. I seem to be okay identifying linear or squared algorithms but am totally lost with nlogn or logn algorithms, these seem to stem mainly from while loops? Heres an example I was looking at: Algorithm Calculate(A,n) Input: Array A of size n t?0 for i?0 to n-1 do if A[i] is an odd number then Q.enqueue(A[i]) else while Q is not empty do t?t+Q.dequeue() while Q is not empty do t?t+Q.dequeue() return t My best guess is the for loop is executed n times, its nested while loop q times making NQ and the final while loop also Q times resulting in O(NQ +Q) which is linear? I am probably totally wrong. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks

• Is using GET with a tokenID for security a good idea?

  I was thinking about this and it appears POST only a little less vulnerable and somewhat harder (do to requiring the user to click something). But really, is there a problem with that? short of having the user copy/pasting the html is there any attacks that can happen due to the session id being in plain view in html?

• Error including image in Latex

  I am getting the following error while compiling my Latex File : ! LaTeX Error: Cannot determine size of graphic in tree.jpg (no BoundingBox). Why do I get this error ? What has this to do with an .eps file ? Infact, I could compile it fine with MacTex on my machine. But when I submit it online to a scientific journal for publication, it compiles it on the server and sends me the resultant PDF which as all these error that prevent it from compiling. I am using the following syntax for including the images : \begin{figure}[!h] \begin{center} \scalebox{0.45}{ \includegraphics{tree.jpg}} \end{center} \caption{\small A sample} \label{tree} \end{figure} What should I do ? Could it be that their server is using an old compiler ? UPDATE : It finally worked. I converted the first image to PDF and the compilation happened perfectly. I guess it used the bounding box value from that PDF and applied it to all images.

• Dynamically add a new row as Add in UITableView in edit mode?

  I have a table view with 0 or n rows of data from datastore. I added a customized Edit button on the right of the view's navigation bar. By default, when the edit button is clicked, in the action event, I set the view as edit mode: [self.tableView setEditing:YES animated:YES]; I would like to add a row at the end of the table view with Add button as an accessory on the left when the table view is in edit mode. And the "Add" row will not be displayed when the view is not in edit mode. This is very similar to the case of iPhon'e Contacts application when a contact is in edit mode. I am not sure if I need to add a row dynamically, and how if so? An alternative way I guess is to add more row when tableView:numberOfRowsInSection: is called? If later is the case, I have to make it hidden when the view is not in edit mode and visible when the view is in edit.

• "Genie" animation effect in XAML

  What would the XAML look like to create a Genie animation effect? Take an object of any size/shape, and "Genie" it to another Minimized location. Kind of like the OSX window minimize. Maybe even a little fancier through a smoke-like effect where the path is more switch back, instead of a simple funnel (if that makes any sense). I'm guessing that there is some sort of Path that could be drawn, and the shape could move and transform along that path. Just a wild guess. Thanks for your ideas.

I have tried using ajax with processData set to false ads dataTypes of html, text and xml but nothing works. I can't find anything on this so I guess I must be missing something fairly trivial but I've been at it for 3 hours now. • C#. Whats the fastest way to make an integer positive

  I asked wrong question previously and was swamped with negative votes... Let me try again... What is absolutely fastest way to make an int positive (given 50/50 distribution of pos/neg over time). To be nominated for an answer I will require MSIL analysis and not a guess or measuring of time with granny's watch... P.S. as one of variations I proposed i * i not because I wanted to do Sqrt(i * i) afterwards but because i will be used only once to be compared to a const. And if i * i will win competition I simply multiply the const.. Hence the following solution is valid: int trigger = realTrigger * realTrigger; i = SomeCalcs(); i = i * i; if(i < trigger) DoSomething(); P.P.S. pointless rant is not acceptable.. like: why do you need this, its BS!   I am not sure if this question is in the scope of SO, but I will ask anyway... I am currently going to school, majoring in Computer Science. Often I overhear students in the Management of Information Systems major call themselves programmers. These comments make me angry for a few reasons: They seem to trivialize what I do. Most of them are not even capable of doing what I can do. To me, MIS is IT and the are technicians and software developers are engineers and are not IT. So I guess my question is, Is software development part of IT? I often see them lumped together.
