  How do i render a web cam filter instead of video file? I am looking at the vmr9compositor example included in the directshow sdk. It renders a video file. I would like to stream in the feed from the webcam. It SEEMS like this should be possible, but I dont have much of a grasp on directshow. It uses this method call currently: hr = g_graph->RenderFile( pFileName, NULL ); Looking at the playcap example in the sdk which can display the web cam feed in a window, I see that it uses hr = g_pCapture->RenderStream (&PIN_CATEGORY_PREVIEW, &MEDIATYPE_Video, pSrcFilter, NULL, NULL)); to display the web cam stream. pSrcFilter is an IBaseFilter. How can I can swap the video file in the vmr app with the web cam feed? Windows XP, Visual Studio 2008 C++

• Configuring IoC container from modules/plug-ins ?

  Hi guys, i am in big dilema.. I am working on highly modular web app in ASP.NET MVC 2 (in fact, core will be super lightweight, all work on modules/plugins). I found MEF pretty useful for modules discovery, but i dont want to us it as IoC container. There is pretty good chance that I will need advanced features of "true" IoC container, so I would like to use Unity. And here is the problem : how to allow modules to configure container (programatically) = register their own types (mvc controllers, custom implementations of services...) at application start without making hard dependency on Unity in all modules ? I know about Common Service Locator project, and it seems pretty good, but this interface co container only allows resolving types, not registering them (afaik). I really hope you can understand my point, I know my english is terrible (I am from non english speaking country :) Thanks a lot !

  I want to display the posted comment once the user comments. Just to add it under all of them as facebook does.   In .NET 3.5 a new socket classes was released: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb968780.aspx i found a sample but some questions regarding best practicses are remaining: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/nclsamples/Wiki/View.aspx?title=Socket%20Performance m_numConnections (the maximum number of connections the sample is designed to handle simultaneously) is probably equal to the amount of cpu cores i have. m_receiveBufferSize is the size for one packet? like 8kb? how should i handle a length byte? opsToPreAlloc i dont understand. is this if i code a transparent proxy? Regarding the multithreading, what should be used? The reactive extension seem to be a good choice. Has anyone tried this in a real world project? Are there better options? I had bad experiences with the .NET thread pool in the past.

• Using java applet to send request with the client ip

  hi, i need to send a request to a website when a user submits their url, i tried using curl but it uses server ip which i dont want i have seen a website that is doing a similar job by using applet, users need to open a popup which contains the applet after they leave it open allow it to run it uses a port and then uses the localhost ip like so 127.0.0.1:64653 to send request and basicly curl by the user ip. i decompiled the applet the website was using and they were using java.net.ServerSocket and some other java code but i do not know anything about java. I would to know how this can be done.

• WebSphere MQ Low Latency Messaging - Does it have a JMS (or JMS like) API?

  We are currently using IBM MQ via JMS, but seem to be pushing through more messages than it can handle - strangely, the problem seems to be intermittent. The messages are prices and thus dont need to be guaranteed, just need to be sent quickly. As IBM have a Low Latency product, I am wondering if that is perhaps the better solution - but it does not seem to have a JMS api, or at least not easily visible. Anyone know if there is a JMS api into the Low Latency product, or if the "unique" API it does have is JMS-like... Alternatively, pointers for MQ tuning would also be appreciated... :)

  I plan on using JSONP to call an external webservice to get around the fact that I dont want to create a global function that could potentially conflict with the calling page. I thought that creating a random function name and passing it up would work. • the best "Simple" CMS system suitable for .Net MVC

  Hello, I'm developing a MVC .Net site and would like to implement a CMS system. So far I have looked at Umbraco, which looks good but the help is poor and the getting started video section is empty, and dotnetnuke, which again looks good but I get the impression its aimed at non developers, plus to has much more than I need and want. In my last job I created a basic custom CMS system that worked by simply adding values into the database, the application called the text from there. it worked fine but I don’t have the source code. what I'm after is a simple CMS system that really just controls text and images, I dont need all the fancy stuff thats in umbraco and dotnetnuke, all the design and CSS i can do myself. also as im working with MVC (which is awesome, and such a breath of fresh air compared to the web forms/telerik crap I have to put up with at work) it needs to be compatible. A simple CMS, can anyone provide any suggestion ? Truegilly

• Database error when deleting entry in my rails app.

  Hi Everyone...again! I have almost everything in my Rails app working, with the exception of detroying entries. I can destroy entries for companies but not kases and people. The following error show when trying to do so: SQLite3::SQLException: no such column: kases_people.kase_id: SELECT * FROM "kases" INNER JOIN "kases_people" ON "kases".id = "kases_people".kase_id WHERE ("kases_people".person_id = 5 ) I suspect this is an error with the party model for the has_many :through associations that I dont fully understand.   I am developing a product scrolling feature where products info( product image, Name, price)will be shown side by side horizontally. i need to show the image of the product and also its reflection. under the reflected image i need to show the Prod Name and its price. The problem here is i dont want to show the complete reflected image. the oputput should be something like this Image Height-100% Reflected Image Height-20% Product name Product Price The above pattern will repeat horizontally. I am able to get the desired output with some problem. The reflected image is shown up with hieght 100% and the sapce between the actual image and product name is very high. My reflected image should be a rotated image of the actual image and only half part of the actual image should be shown. Any pointers even is highly appreciated

  I have problem understanding read consistency in db(oracle). Suppose I am manger of a bank . A customer has got lock (which I dont know) and is doing some updation. Now after he has got lock I am viewing account info of the same customer and try to do some thing on it.But because of read consistency I will see data as it existed before customer got the lock. So will not that affect inputs I am getting and the decisions that I am gonna make during that period?

  If B is subclass of A. And I have in main(): B** b = new B*[10]; ... some algorithm that do b[i] = new B(..); ... So I have an array of pointers to objets B. Then I have a function: void f(A** foo); If in main, I do: f(b); I get a warning, but obviously if I do: f((A**)b);, i dont. The (A**) its a bit nasty. I was wondering if there's a more elegant way in C++ that at least do type checking as dynamic_cast.

• PHP, include with parameters

  hi! I have a PHP-file which will be called from a form. So it gets parameters over $_GET. Now I need the exact same functionality of this file, but not in such a form-call. I will include it in normal code with fixed parameters (which normally come from the form). So my file can work with the form AND without it. I know only the way with include and setting the $_GET in front of it. But I am not sure this is the most elegant way (I dont like the idea of setting things like $_GET). any other ways of doing this? br, chris

  I am going to be working on a project, a web application. I was reading 37signals getting real pamphlet online (http://gettingreal.37signals.com/), and I understand the recommended process to build the entire website. Brainstorm, sketch, HTML, code. They touch on each process lightly, but they never really talk much about the coding process (all they say is to keep code lean). I've been reading about different ways to go about it (top to bottom, bottom to top) but I dont know much about each way. I even read somewhere that one should write tests for the code before they actually write the code??? WHAT? What coding process should one follow when building an application. if its necessary, I'm using PHP and a framework.

I thought I could find existing loggers using org.apache.log4j.LogManager.getCurrentLoggers() and change the PatternLayouts there, but I'm not able to iterate over that enumeration in clojure, as I get the following error: Dont know how to create ISeq from: java.util.Vector$1 I assume this is possible somehow, and probably very simply. • How can we disable the button in my iphone app?

  In my application, there is one button in the navigation bar. I want it to work only for the 1t click of the user. If he continousally presses on it 2 or 3 times just after the 1st click the button shouldnt recieve the following ones. How can I do this? My app always crashes if the user presses it for more than once. I dont want to make it multithread and use lock. Thats why i want to know whether there is anyother alternative.

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out how many clock cycles or total instructions it takes to access a pointer in C. I dont think I know how to figure out for example, p-x = d-a + f-b i would assume two loads per pointer, just guessing that there would be a load for the pointer, and a load for the value. So in this operations, the pointer resolution would be a much larger factor than the actual addition, as far as trying to speed this code up, right? This may depend on the compiler and architecture implemented, but am I on the right track? I have seen some code where each value used in say, 3 additions, came from a f2->sum = p1->p2->p3->x + p1->p2->p3->a + p1->p2->p3->m type of structure, and I am trying to define how bad this is

• Why shouldnt i use flash again?

  I heard many times i should avoid flash for my website. Yet no one has told me a good reason. I searched for reasons and i see many that are not true (such as text in flash are not indexable by search engines) or may not necessarily be true or significant enough (eating more bandwidth. Would a JS equivalent be bigger or smaller?). My site uses flash to playback sound (m4a). I dont have to worry about indexing, the back button not working, etc. But i have feeling there may be other reasons. What are reasons i shouldnt use flash on my website. I'll note one, the fact iphone/itouch and mobile devices does not support it. Not a big deal for most sites and is obvious. What are reason to avoid flash on my site?

• Migrating from Clearcase LT (UCM) to Subversion

  I am sure this question has been asked hundreds of time and been responded equally. I am trying to get a clear picture of my effort before I embark on this. I want to know if SVNImporter or any other tool out there helps me migrate my UCM VOBs to Subversion repos. I dont mind losing some history. Also please share your strategies if there are no tools out there. I was told by someone that I would have to rebase my view with each baseline from oldest to the newest and incrementally commit that code into Subversion. While this seems to be plain and simple but considering the number of VOBs we have here, this would be a gigantic task for us to do manually. • Objective-C Framework PSMTabBarControl does not work

  Hello everybody In my App I'm trying to get PSMTabBarControl working, but all I do - nothing... I have copied the framework File in my Frameworks folder of my App, then included it. In my InterfaceBuilder (1.3.2) I was able to drag and drop the PSMTabBarControl to my Window and link it with the NSTabView (PSM - tabView - NSTabView && NSTabView - delegate - PSM), but after i tried a Demo (apple+r) I cant see the Tabs... Tried all I can - but dont know why.. Am I doing sth. wrong? Which other Framework or Source I can use to create Tabs like Firefox oder Safari? Thank you!
