• Month to Date in SQL Server 2008

  Hopefully this will be an easy one to answer. I am working on a table that requires MTD data. One of our SQL guys told me to use MONTH (@monthtodate)= 11 Where @monthtodate is set to GetDate() in the parameter list in SQL Server Management Studio. So in "theory", he says, it should select the month (11) and then get today and return all the requested data in between those two dates. But I'm thinking this isn't correct. In looking at my data I'm starting to think that It's just returning data for the whole month of November instead of just MTD. I guess, technically, anything that has 0 won't be calculated. However that just means it's poorly written code correct? In your opinions, would this be the better way to return MTD data: production_date <= @today and Production_Date >= DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, @today), 0) Thanks in advance everyone!

• Search and highlight - Client vs. Server side?

  Hi everyone, I have an MVC web application that shows ~ 2000 lines "divs", and I want to make the user able to search and highlight the keywords. I tried using jQuery plugins for this but the performance was really bad and IE got almost hung! So, I was wondering if this is the best way to do it? and If am not getting a faster version I'd rather do it on the server "AJAX call" and re-render the whole lines again - this way at least the user won't feel the browser is getting hung! Any recommendations? Thanks!

• Creating a program to find longest path

  Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to programming and I'm having a few problems. Basically I have to make a function that will find the lengths of all the paths through a network diagram. I've been working on this for hours but I can't seem to get anywhere. Using recursion I can navigate through every path but I'm just unsure as to how I should record the lengths of the paths. Any help would be greatly appreciated. • Unusual Subversion Folders Appeared After Update

  Hello Everyone, I have been using Subversion for about 2 years to manage a large C# project. On a recent Subversion update, a number of new folders were added to my source code folder: \conf \db \locks \hooks 35+ files were also added during the update, all appearing under the 4 new folders. I haven't changed any client (I use TortoiseSVN) or server software related to Subversion, so I'm puzzled why these folders and files were suddenly introduced. It also seems strange that files seemingly related to the internal workings of Subversion are now part of my source code repository. Can anyone shed some light on why this happened?   I'm new to PHP, and it appears that the way I learn the fastest is to study a new language a well developed complete program (or website, in this case) changing stuff seeing what happens and consulting books. There are lots of recommendations of books all around, and that's pretty much covered. I'd like to find the sourcecode of a website. Either a well known, well developed open-source website, or a sample sourcecode of a complete website (maybe one used in a book or something). Everyone says they should find the way they learn better.. Well, that's mine. PS.: By complete I mean having several common functionalities (such as login), database connection, use of security conventions, maybe a popular framework, and being up-to-date.

• Is *not* using the asp.net membership provider a bad idea?

  Is it generally a really bad idea to not use the built-in asp.net membership provider? I've always rolled my own for my asp.net apps (public facing), and really have not had any problems in doing so. It works, and seems to avoid a layer of complexity. My needs are pretty basic: once setup, the user must use email address and password to login, if they forget it, it will be emailed back to them (a new one). After setup there is little that needs to be done to each user account, but I do need to store several extra fields with each user (full name, telephone and a few other fields etc). The number of users that required login credentials are small (usually just the administrator and a few backups), and everyone else uses the site unauthenticated. What are the big advantages that I might be missing out on by skipping the asp.net membership provider functionality?

• Why won't the debugger update?

  Hello everyone, Ive had this problem multiple times and it ruins my projects, I make some changes, like say I have a button in the top left corner of the form and move it to the top right corner, then I press debug but nothing happens to the form, it doesn't change the button is still in the top left-hand corner instead of the top right, and it also doesn't except any new code, its like it saved the project right there and won't move on. Does any one know why or had this problem before? Please, Help!!!! Additional Details: Compiler: Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition I once fixed this problem by rebuilding the solution, but its never worked again.

I think that generally this result is inpossible. please Let me know if you have any information about sound power on CoreAudio. thanks.

• How do I get phpMyAdmin to connect to a local mysql server?

  Hi everyone, I have my config.inc.php file, and have set my host name to localhost. Unfortunately, I have no idea what my username/password should be. Is that something I need to configure on the MySql side? I tried creating an arbitrary username/password (admin/password), but when I try to log into phpMyAdmin with those credentials, I get an error: (#1045 - Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES)) Can anyone point me in the right direction? (Sorry for the dumb question; I just haven't had to install mysql before. I've always had a host name / username / password given to me.) Thanks!

• ZeroMQ Java Installation Problem

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to install ZeroMQ's Java library but I've been having problem. First error was ./configure complained about JAVA_HOME which everything seemed to be fine but I couldn't manage to solve it but I've found a particular solution in ZeroMQ's chat logs. The suggested solution was; JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home" ./configure However it doesn't work for me. The error message I've been receiving is checking for jni.h in /Library/Java/Home/include... configure: error: cannot find jni.h in /Library/Java/Home/include. I've tried JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home" ./configure and JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Home" ./configure as well but still no luck. I'd like to hear StackOverflowers' thoughts about how I can solve this. Thanks.

  in object oriented php mysqli I am trying to request a username, and return if it matches a row, without actually returning any user data.   Hi everyone! I´m creating a website for a photographer who would like a fine fadein on his images. I have excluded flash as a solution and would like to use those fine-looking effects of mootools fx. But the problem is that I'm really lousy when it comes to javascript. So if anyone could give me an easy solution for fading in one single image onload and when the image is loaded I would be really happy. I know there is a lot of different people out there who have this. But the problem is that i don't know how the code works even if it is a complete solution. So most important. • Working effectively unit tests / Anyone tried the in-assembly approach?

  I'm trying to re-introduce unit testing into my team as our current coverage is very poor. Our system is quite large 40+ projects/assemblies. We current use a project named [SystemName].Test.csproj were all the test code is dumped and organised to represent the namespaces using folders. This approach is not very scalable and makes it difficult to find tests. I've been thinking about added a Tests folder to each project, this would put the unit tests "in the developers face" and make them easy to find. The downside is the Production release code would contain references to nunit, nmocks as well as the test code and test data.... Has anyone tried this approach? How is everyone else working with unit tests on large projects? Having a Tests project per "real" project/assembly would introduce too many new projs. Thanks in advance

Question: Can I use Indefero - http://www.indefero.net/ - with SVN on a linux server if I do not have any sort of web interface installed for Apache? Instead, I want to use Indefero with SVN by just using the svnserve server. From my readings, I'm not finding this exact situation mentioned anywhere, so I'm doubting if this configuration is possible. • GameKit server disconnect makes session invalid

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to build a 4 player multiplayer game using GameKit. I tried many things and I'm currently using client/server mode, meaning that I have 1 session in GKSessionModeServer and 3 other sessions connecting to this one in GKSessionModeClient. My goal is, that when a user leaves the game or gets disconnected for whatever reason, that the others can continue their game. So far this works if any of the Clients leave the game, but if the Sevrer leaves the game, send and receive calls are not reaching the other peers anymore. I tried the same with 4 peers in GKSessionModePeer with the same result (where the player who accepts connections cannot quit). Does anyone had better success in making this work? Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks!

• Keep TabItems in a TabControl from repositioning?

  Hi everyone, In WPF, Is there a simple way to stop TabItems in a TabControl from being repositioned when the selected TabItem changes? So that clicking on a TabItem would simply display its contents, but not reposition the TabItems as it usually does (by moving the selected TabItem to the bottom row of tabs if it wasn't there already). Edit: To clarify, I do want the tabs to be displayed in multiple rows, I just don't want the tab headers to be repositioned when a TabItem from a row other than the bottom row is selected. I'd like the collection of headers to remain completely static, but for the contents of that TabItem to still be displayed when its header is clicked. Thanks!

  Just wondering how you all manage your workload effectively when there's a lot of your plate? What do you do to break it down into bite-size chunks and how do you track progress of each task? Do you find TDD helps to focus your attention of getting areas of functionality complete before moving onto the next one? I quite often find myself getting a bit overwhelmed when I have an involving task on the go (even if it can be broken down into lots of small chunks), even though I know I'm more than capable of doing the work. We have a kind of agile approach Interested to hear how everyone manages things effectively.

• Has anyone used an object database with a large amount of data?

  Object databases like MongoDB and db4o are getting lots of pub lately. Everyone that plays with them seems to love it. I'm guessing that they are dealing with about 640K of data in their sample apps. Has anyone tried to use an object database with a large amount of data (say, 50GB or more)? Are you able to still execute complex queries against it (like from a search screen)? How does it compare to your usual relational database of choice? I'm just curious. I want to take the object database plunge, but I need to know if it'll work on something more than a sample app.
