• Self Executing jQuery Plugin?

  I am working on expansion of my jQuery plug-in authoring knowledge, just playing around with my own ideas for learning benefits. So i was wondering how you guys tackle the need of plugin executing without any user specific input. So I have a need for plug-in that executes right away after document is ready, without any user's specific input just as long as doc is loaded, so the only way I see how to execute plug-in on it's own is to attach handler to ready listener that executes my function which I extended the jQuery with. And because this needs to be self enclosed, part of the code, I attach handler to event listener within the function. So how else could one tackle this? Any take at this is appreciated. • Newbie programmer looking for a fun, small project (pref. C++/Python)

  Hello everyone, I have some experience in Scheme and C++ (read: a semester of each) I know the very basics of Python (used it for physics simulations with the Visual Python module). Can you recommend me some fun and small (i.e. don't take much time) projects on either Python or C++? I have no real preferences, just that it is fun :P Thanks for your time! PS: I've tried projecteuler and python challenge. Euler is good, but more about math than coding, and py challenge just didn't work for me.

• Rebuilding an Opensource Iphone Project but got too many errors

  Downloaded an opensource sample Iphone project and when I compiled, everything is OK. This project has alot of C files. So, I try to rebuilding this project from scratch just to see if I can duplicate it. I make sure all the inlcudes files there, the path is correct, all the libraries there. I check original project settings and make sure if they have any specific search path and I need to follow. Anyway, I follow the exact settings but this time my duplicated project got some 1500 errors. alot of them generated from inside those C files. So, what's wrong? everyone got some tips on that why I got so many errors? I followed everything I follow from the original project.

Inevitably it seems like there will be one or two people freed-up. If all the other tasks are done-done, and the remaining tasks are already underway, then what? Do those team-members pick up items from the top of the product backlog, as they are likely to be needed in the next sprint anyways to get a head start? What do you or your teams do?

The problem that I walk into is that I can't make it work since I don't really understand the documentation. • MySQL: Limit output according to associated ID

  So here's my situation. I have a books table and authors table. An author can have many books... In my authors page view, the user (logged in) can click an author in a tabled row and be directed to a page displaying the author's books (collected like this URI format: viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23), very straight forward... However, in my query, I need to display the books for the author only, and not all books stored in the books table (as i currently have!) As I am a complete novice, I used the most simple query of: SELECT * FROM tasks_tb This returns the books for me, but returns every single value (book) in the database, and not ones associated with the selected author. And when I click a different author the same books are displayed for them...I think everyone gets what I'm trying to achieve, I just don't know how to perform the query. I'm guessing that I need to start using more advanced query clauses like INNER JOIN etc. Anyone care to help me out :)

• dependencies linking isnt enough?

  In Visual Studio (C++) the other day, I was trying to build some example code and it would not work, even though I was pointing at the right include and lib directories. (I got linker errors) I asked a friend who fixed the problem by specifying the necessary .lib files in the General Properties-Linker-Input field of the project settings. My questions: Simply pointing to the directory with the .lib files is not enough? You need to specifically tell the linker which lib files to link? By listing the .lib files in the "additional dependencies" field, am I specifying exactly which static libs get built into the exe? If the answer to this is yes, then will these be the ONLY lib files that get built into the exe? Why is it called "additional" dependencies? Is there another place to specify lib files to include? Before I thought this was done by including the necessary header file? Thanks everyone! Russel

I understand very well that everyone starting with that SDK is too exited about getting its hand on it but a few reading would save them hours of debugging and the frustration that come along with the feeling that "We miss something here". I'd like experience users to share the few small articles, white papers, docs, book chapters that helps other save their time and avoid frustration. My first vote would be for : IOS Memory Management Guide View Controller Programming Guide Table View Guide And as a General recommendation, read the Overview section that come along with every class documention in the reference library, they contains most of what you need to know to avoid big traps !

• Is GOTO really as evil as we are led to believe?

  I'm a young programmer, so all my working life I've been told GOTO is evil, don't use it, if you do, your first born son will die. Recently, I've realized that GOTO actually still exists in .NET and I was wondering, is GOTO really as bad as they say, or is it just because everyone says you shouldn't use it, so that's why you don't. I know GOTO can be used badly, but are there any legit situations where you may possibly use it. The only thing I can think of is maybe to use GOTO to break out of a bunch of nested loops. I reckon that might be better then having to "break" out of each of them but because GOTO is supposedly always bad, I would never use it and it would probably never pass a peer review. What are your views? Is GOTO always bad? Can it sometimes be good? Has anyone here actually been gutsy enough to use GOTO for a real life system?

  Hello everyone, PROBLEM: I have a program dummy.exe on windows. this program will bind to UDP port 5060, after started. but another program also want to bind port 5060. WHAT I HAVE DONE: using windbg to start dummy.exe, and set breakpoint on ws2_32!bind when the breakpoint hit, i changed the parameter (port value) with command ew this dummy.exe will bind to the new port, and worked well. QUESTION: How can i do that easily? write a simple windows debugger? Maybe i can hacking or modify the dummy.exe file, but how to do that? what's your way to achieve this? thanks

• Javascript not working IE any version

  Hey everyone. I am having some issues on my end and hopefully it's just something on my end but, could someone take a look at THIS PAGE in IE and let me know if you can see what is wrong. Please check it out first in FF or Chrome or Safari because it all works fine in those browsers. The two scripts I am using are a custom-ish dropdown menu and another using jcarousel lite.   Hello everyone, I want to count the number of accounts from the resulting table generated from this code. This way, I know how many people liked blue at one time. Select Distinct PEOPLE.FullName, PEOPLE.FavColor From PEOPLE Where FavColor='Blue' Lets say this is a history accounting of what people said their favorite color when they were asked so there may be multiple records of the same full name if asked again at a much later time; hence the distinct. The code I used may not be reusable in your answer so feel free to use what you think can work. I am sure I found a possible solution to my problem using declare and if statements but I lost that page... so I am left with no solution. However, I think there is a way to do it without using conditionals which is what I am asking and rather have. Thanks. • Fetching content from Website on another Server

  Hi everyone. What i basically want to do is to get content from a website and load it into a div of another website. This should be no problem so far. The problem is, that the content that should be fetched is located on a different server and i have no source access to it. I'd prefer a solution using JavaScript of jQuery. Can i use a .htacces redirect to fetch the content from a remote server with client-side (js) techniques? I will also go with other solutions though. Thanks a lot in advance!

Consider that i have an excel workbook and an access table not necessarily having a similar structure (i.e. They may not have same number of columns) When i open the workbook the rows in the excel sheet get populated by the rows in access table (copied from the access table into the excel sheet's particular range of cells specified using macros). Then i modify certain cells in the excel sheet. I also have a button called "Save" in the excel sheet. When pressed, this will execute a macro. My question how can i update the access table to reflect the changes in the excel sheet when the save button is clicked...? Thanks for your time and suggestions...!

• Is memcached a dinosaur in comparison to Redis?

  Hi everyone, I have worked quite a bit with memcached the last weeks and just found out about Redis. When I read this part of their readme, I suddenly got a warm, cozy feeling in my stomach: Redis can be used as a memcached on steroids because is as fast as memcached but with a number of features more. Like memcached, Redis also supports setting timeouts to keys so that this key will be automatically removed when a given amount of time passes. This sounds amazing. I'd also found this page with benchmarks: http://www.ruturaj.net/redis-memcached-tokyo-tyrant-mysql-comparison So, honestly - Is memcache really that old dinousaur that is a bad choice from a performance perspective when compared to this newcomer called Redis?   hello everyone i have a complex query to be written but cannot figure it out here are my tables Sales --one row for each sale made in the system SaleProducts --one row for each line in the invoice (similar to OrderDetails in NW) Deals --a list of possible deals/offers that a sale may be entitled to DealProducts --a list of quantities of products that must be purchased in order to get a deal now im trying to make a query which will tell me for each sale which deals he may get the relevant fields are: Sales: SaleID (PK) SaleProducts: SaleID (FK), ProductID (FK) Deals: DealID (PK) DealProducts: DealID(FK), ProductID(FK), Mandatories (int) for required qty i believe that i should be able to use some sort of cross join or outer join, but it aint working here is one sample (of about 30 things i tried) SELECT DealProducts.DealID, DealProducts.ProductID, DealProducts.Mandatories, viwSaleProductCount.SaleID, viwSaleProductCount.ProductCount FROM DealProducts LEFT OUTER JOIN viwSaleProductCount ON DealProducts.ProductID = viwSaleProductCount.ProductID GROUP BY DealProducts.DealID, DealProducts.ProductID, DealProducts.Mandatories, viwSaleProductCount.SaleID, viwSaleProductCount.ProductCount the problem is that it doesnt show any product deals that r not fullfiled (probably because of the productid join). i need that also sales that dont have the requiremnets show up, then i can filter out any saleid that exists in this query "where AmountBought thank you for your help

This may not exactly be the right way to go about it, but I've stumbled upon something which isn't making sense to me. Code is like this: [Test] private void DeleteFruit() { BuildTestData(); var f1 = new Fruit("Banana",1,1.5); var f2 = new Fruit("Apple",1,1.5); fm.DeleteFruit(f1,listOfFruit); Assert.That(listOfFruit[1] == f2); } Now the fruit object I create line 5 is the object that I know should be in that position (with this specific dataset) after f1 is deleted. Also if I sit and debug, and manually compare objects listOfFruit[1] and f2 they are the same. But that Assert line fails. What gives?

  Hi everyone, I have a shell script that creates Firefox profiles and then uses them to open multiple instances of Firefox simultaneously. The problem is how can I open a URL in a particular instance of Firefox? I have tried firefox -CREATEPROFILE test firefox -P 'test' -no-remote firefox -P test -url www.google.ie But the last part which is trying to open the URL using the test profile does not work, it always opens in then default profile. Is there any way to tell Firefox from the command line to open a URL using a particular profile? Thanks.

• Controlling the visibility of a Bitmap in .NET

  Hi everyone, I am trying to create this simple application in c#: when the user double clicks on specific location in the form, a little circle will be drawn. By one click, if the current location is marked by a circle - the circle will be removed. I am trying to do this by simply register the MouseDoubleClick and MouseClick events, and to draw the circle from a .bmp file the following way: private void MouseDoubleClick (object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { Graphics g = this.CreateGraphics(); Bitmap myImage = (Bitmap)Bitmap.FromFile("Circle.bmp"); g.DrawImage(myImage, e.X, e.Y); } My problem is that I dont know how to make the circle unvisible when the user clicks its location: I know how to check if the selected location contains a circle (by managing a list of all the locations containig circles...), but I dont know how exactly to delete it. Another question: should I call the method this.CreateGraphics() everytime the user double-clicks a location, as I wrote in my code snippet, or should I call it once on initialization?

  Hello everyone, I have a GWT-FormPanel on my website, where people can upload pictures and answer some questions. It's working very well. The only problem is: I would like to provide a feedback to the user (for example: 0% to 100%) during the actual file process. But I have no idea how I can do that. I think that's a very common issue, that's why I would like to ask you guys if you know any tutorial or example that could help me to solve this problem. I've already tried GWT-Upload, but it does not do what I want: I have a submit button at the end of the FormPanel and the GWTUpload has it's own "SEND" button, which I don't want to have. • SVN:Team member can checkout, commit; can't update

  Hi all, got a weird problem for you: I've set up an svn server on a home machine, which is accessible to the members of my game team over DynDNS. So far so good- everyone was able to checkout the repo no problem. In addition, several team members and I were able to update and commit just fine. The conundrum is this: One of my team members, who is able to both checkout and commit, is unable to update. TortoiseSVN proffers: Error Could not open the requested SVN filesystem Has anyone dealt with this problem before? This isn't my first SVN rodeo, but I have to admit I'm stumped. Thanks!
