• Can C/C++ compiler report struct member offset

  Hello, everyone. I'd like to ask, can compiler(e.g. Visual C++) generate a report(.txt) telling struct member offset for a struct/all structs? If so, it helps debugging quite a lot. For example, when you read disassembler code in the debugger, it can be easier to associate an offset value to a struct member. Also, it is better to have compiler report offset of each local variable on a function stack frame(e.g. the offset relative to ebp on an X86 machine). Thank you in advance.

• Php getting too many connections error from MySQL

  Hello everyone, I am using MySQL and PHP with 2 application servers and 1 database server. With the increase of the number of users (around 1000 by now), I'm getting the following error : SQLSTATE[08004] [1040] Too many connections The parameter "max_connections" is set to "1000" in my.cnf and "mysql.max_persistent" is set to -1 in php.ini. There are at most 1500 apache processes running at a time since the "MaxClients" apache parameter is equal to 750 and we have 2 application servers. Should I raise the "max_connections" to 1500 as indicated in here? Or should I set "mysql.max_persistent" to 750 (we use PDO with persistent connections for performance reasons since the database server is not the same as the application servers)? Or should I try something else? Thanks in advance!

• Jquery UI Sortable Item Contents

  So I have this shopping list coded in php and js: http://www.whatcouldicook.com/recipes/planner So people can add, delete or sort the list and thats fine, I dont want multiple lists and instead just have a list item containing a heading tag to represent a new list. All this works and then using serialize I can save the ordering/modifying of the list. I don't know how to get the list contents however as these will be dynamic from the user. All the code is on that url so hopefully you can examine the code there. Thanks everyone

  hi everyone, i have a parent class called Course, and two child class PostgradCourse and UndergradCourse. i have a hashmap HashMap courses; i store all the postgradCourse and undergradCourse objects in the hashmap. i want to retrieve an undergradCourse object from the hashmap using the key. Course course = courses.get(courseCode); then i want to call a method in the UndergradCourse class, setUnits() method course.setUnits(); but the compiler say cannot find symbol- method setUnit() im pretty sure the problem is the compiler is looking for a method setUnit() in the Course class instead of UndergradCourse class i did this but its not working UndergradCourse course = courses.get(courseCode); results in incompatible type so how can i retrieve undergradCourse object from the hashmap as an undergradCourse object instead of course object? so then i can call a method inside the child class thanks in advance

• mysqli query not working when variable inserted

  Hi Everyone, I need an extra pair of eyes! I have a super-simple query: $result = $mysqli->query("SELECT post_id FROM blog_posts WHERE post_uri = 'the-test-post' LIMIT 1"); $row = $result->fetch_array(); and this gives me the post_id. However, if I insert a variable for post_uri, the result is empty. Ways I tried of which none worked: $result = $mysqli->query("SELECT post_id FROM blog_posts WHERE post_uri = '".$post_uri."' LIMIT 1"); $result = $mysqli->query("SELECT post_id FROM blog_posts WHERE post_uri = ".$post_uri." • iPhone - Create non-persistent entities in core data

  Hi everyone, I would like to use entity objects but not store them... I read that I could create them like this: myElement = (Element *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Element" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; And right after that remove them: [managedObjectContext deleteObject:myElement]; then I can use my elements: myElement.property1 = @"Hello"; This works pretty well even though I think this is probably not the most optimal way to do it... Then I try to use it in my UITableView... the problem is that the object get released after the initialization. My table becomes empty when I move it! Thanks edit: I've also tried to copy the element ([myElement copy]) but I get an error...

• SQL Express as a main DB

  Hi everyone, Does anyone out there use SQL Express 2008 R2 in a production environment? I am looking at hosting a Windows VPS as a server for a client software product I have developed. Clients connect to the server, send their data to a service running on the server, and the service updates the database. I'm trying to keep running costs down, and whilst I have a license for SQL Developer I obviously can't use this in a production environment. • How to combine several movieclips into one scene?

  Hi everyone, I'm creating a website that allows kids to designs a tshirt. I will have four section, colour, graphic, text and print. I have created these sections on demos and they are all working. I now need to properly create them all on one movie clip. I'm having problems with it, when i select the chosen tshirt colour and move onto the graphic section the shirt is white again and hasnt came through blue. Its the same for every section, when I select a grahic they dont come through either etc when I click the next button it refreshs the page. Does anyone know how to create this kind of design on one movie clip using different frames and so that the colour etc transfers onto each new page? PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm developing simple web-app using richfaces and I'm facing the problem that when I deploy and run application in browser jboss shows just following message: This page contains the following errors: error on line 12 at column 16: internal error Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error. And that's all. No stacktrace! It's so uneasy to search for a source of problem. Could anyone help me to "turn on" stacktracing?

  Hi everyone, I have a one-to-many relationship between Part and Params (a "Part" has many "Params). I'm trying to do something naive like this: Part sourcePart = em.find(Part.class, partIdSource); Part destPart = em.find(Part.class, partIdDest); Collection<Param> paramListSource = sourcePart.getParamList(); destPart.setParamList(paramListSource); Basically I want to copy all the parameters from sourcePart to destPart. Hopefully the persistence provider will automatically set the right foreign keys in the Param table/entity. The above code will obviously not work. Is there any easy way of doing this, or do I have to do create a new collection, then add each Param (creating new Param, setting attributes, etc) ?

• How do I manage permissions on multiple items in SharePoint 2007?

  I'm relatively new to SharePoint and am trying to put a bunch of Word files (that were on our network file server) into SharePoint. We have set up a document library that, by default, gives everyone access to everything. This is the desired top-level permission set because most items will work well this way. The problem is that I have a bunch of documents I want to add and apply some specific permissions to. I can do this, but...please tell me there is some way I can do this for multiple documents at the same time. Attempting to do this one-by-one is a pain and I'm hoping for a better solution here.   So Ive got a pretty big array of data and need to sort them by two criteria. There is variable $data['important'] and $data['basic']. They are simple numbers and I am using uasort to sort $data firstly by important and then by basic. So Important | Basic 10 | 8 9 | 9 9 | 7 7 | 9 The usort function is a simple public function sort_by_important($a, $b) { if ($a[important] > $b[important]) { return -1; } elseif ($b[important] > $a[important]) { return 1; } else { return 0; } } How can I re-sort the array to the second variable and keep the Important ordering?   Hi everyone, I just wanted to confirm, is it possible that we add layers of images using UImageView, one as background and other on top of it. I mean i want to use 2 images one has to be in the background and the other on top of it. ( the size of both these images is 320 x 480 ). Through the attributes inspector we cant do it. • Use branching in TFS for 32 bit and 64 bit version of a software?

  Hi everyone, we are in the process of porting a 32bit application, which uses the Outlook Redemption DLL to a 64 bit version, since redemption has recently been released as a 64 bit version as well. We'd like to maintain two versions of the application, one for 32 and one for 64 bit. What is the best way to organize these projects under team foundation server source control? Would I create a branch of the existing 32 bit version? Copying the whole project seems sub-optimal since it would duplicate all the business logic code. Any suggestions?

• Why can't I use relative URLs with IE7?

  Hello everyone. I've been Googling for a while and can't seem to find an answer to this question. My problem is as follows: For my jquery, I need my links to be relative rather than absolute. My PHP is set to return relative urls and everything is working fine, until I test it in IE7. For some reason, IE7 keeps changing my relative urls to abosulute, which breaks my js script. Is this normal? Is there a way to get around it? For example: IE8, Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc - <a href='/page' onclick='click_handler(this);return false;'>clicky</a> IE7 - <a href='http://www.myurl.com/page' onclick='click_handler(this);return false;'>clicky</a>

• Translate GPS coordinates to location on PDF Map

  Hi everyone, I'd like to know (from a high level view) what would be required to take a pdf floor plan of a building and determine where exactly you are on that floor plan using GPS coordinates? In addition to location, the user would be presented with a "turn by turn" directions to another point on the map, navigating down hallways, between cubicles, etc. Use case: an iPhone app that determined a user's location and guided them to a conference room or person's office in the building. I realize that this is by no means trivial, but any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  Hi everyone I found an interesting bug and wanted to know you think. Brief background: I've written a custom DTD and an example XML file (both UTF-8). I have now implemented a SAX parser in Java which I want to test. I got a SAXException complaining "An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x7e) was found in the public identifier". Now, the URL of my DTD does contain a tilde character (unicode 0x7e). If I move the DTD file to another URL which does not contain a tilde, then my example XML file parses without causing a SAXException. So I have a work-around for this problem, but I am interested to know: why does this happen? Is this a bug? If so, is it with UTF-8, Java (1.6.0_18 x86), Windows (Server 2008 R2 x86_64) or what? Or is this one of those little obscure nuances of the XML 1.0 specification?

  Hi everyone, I have an application in python 2.5 which sends data through suds 0.3.6. The problem is that the data contains non-ascii characters, so I need the following header to exist in the soap message: Content-Type="text/html; charset="utf-8" and the header that exists in the SOAP message is just: Content-Type="text/html" I know that it is fixed in suds 0.4, but it requires Python2.6 and I NEED Python2.5 because I use CentOS and it needs that version. So the question is: How could I change or add new HTTP headers to a SOAP message?

• How do Go web apps function from a server perspective?

  Hey Everyone, I followed the directions on how to create web applications using Go, and I was able to get an application working great. One thing I am confused about though is, when you run the application (./8.out), the terminal will sit there and listen on port 8080 until somebody accesses a page. Does the terminal need to stay up all of the time to run the web application? Does the application act like apache? Does apache need to be run next to this app? Setting this up on a server environment seems very confusing to me right now because I dont understand what the best way to do this is. Thanks for any help on this, Metropolis

• Rails select list reverts to top?

  Hi Everyone, I have number of select lists in my rails application like this: <li>Company<span><%= f.select :company_id, Company.all.collect {|m| [m.companyname, m.id]} %></span></li> They all work well, except - sometimes if you go to the edit view, the select list reverts to the top item, not the item that was chosen when creating. So if you go to an edit view and then click update without actually making any changes, the lists default to the top item - even though you didn't touch them. Is there a way around this? Anyway, ATI Drivers on Linux do not have a Fan control feature and therefore the cards to tend to heat up. For me I prefer to have a cooler card. • MVC Custom Model Binder Binding Multiple Values

  Hello everyone, I have a scenario in which I have multiple sources to bind to my model. For one, I have a view tied to a strongly-typed model, but this scenario also entails posting data to this view from a 3rd party site. Essentially, what I believe I am after in the custom model binding is to investigate the form values in the Request object within HTTPContext to see if I have a field such as "postedFirstName". If so, I want to bind that value instead of the textbox "FirstName" in my view. I've done a good bit of searching but have not find anything that exactly addresses such a scenario. • Self Executing jQuery Plugin?

  I am working on expansion of my jQuery plug-in authoring knowledge, just playing around with my own ideas for learning benefits. So i was wondering how you guys tackle the need of plugin executing without any user specific input. So I have a need for plug-in that executes right away after document is ready, without any user's specific input just as long as doc is loaded, so the only way I see how to execute plug-in on it's own is to attach handler to ready listener that executes my function which I extended the jQuery with. And because this needs to be self enclosed, part of the code, I attach handler to event listener within the function. So how else could one tackle this? Any take at this is appreciated.
