• I'm on Charter's email blacklist, how do I get removed?

  I am a programmer in a local government agency. I found out today when I got to work that Charter Internet has blacklisted us for our mailing list that we run. This list is used for communicating news and alerts for our residents. Does anyone have a phone # I can use to contact Charter about this? Normally the email approach is fine, but we have yet another snow storm coming and 75 of our customers won't be alerted to a snow emergency if we have one and may possibly be towed as a result.

• No databases showing in phpMyAdmin

  My website is hosted in shared hosting service and is working fine with updated news stored in MySQL database. To manage the database of website, I install phpMyAdmin in a sub-folder with the same username and password used in website. When I login to phpMyAdmin, I don't see my database. phpMyAdmin is showing "No databases" in left pane. Is there any thing I need to configure in phpMyAdmin? Edited: This is the settings in config.inc.php.   My favorite cell phone maker Moto is closing it doors in India. Plan is to  have their service shops open. If you still want to grab the last living decendent of the phone in India there is good news “would continue to sell its phones till stocks are exhausted while service centers would continue to function”. Ya !  lock up in your safe, wait 20 years, then sell this antique for a fortune. There is will be staff cut and Moto promised to help employees at these difficult times. India is one of the most sort out market for mobile makers, what is running in Googles mind ? May be world is falling apart like Mayans predicted ?

• Has anyone done CSDP certification?

  I was looking at some certifications that can potentially enhance my knowledge and market value as a Software Engineer. IEEE's Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) caught my attention. When I looked on the net for any user experiences with it I couldn't find anything substantial. Doesn't seem too popular. And I certainly havent heard of anyone in my organization or friends circle who have done it. I would like to know from community members if anyone has done this certification and their experiences with the same. Was the certification useful in terms of knowledge. Did it add weight to your resume (not deadweight!)?

  I have debated posting this or not. My initial thought was not to post about it. My thought was not to blog about it thinking that I would spare myself the embarrassment if I wasn't awarded. A little paranoid, I know, but these are paranoid times. After more reflection, I realize that there is no embarrassment in not winning. There is great honor in being nominated. Instead of worrying about not winning in the end, I need to enjoy the moment and enjoy being nominated. This is an extreme honor. I would to hear your stories of being nominated? What was the process like? What was your reaction? Hopefully, I will have some good news to share here soon. If not, being nominated truly is an honor.

• NetBeans 6.9 Released

  Great news, the first NetBeans release that has been conducted fully under the stewardship of Oracle has now been released. NetBeans IDE 6.9 introduces the JavaFX Composer, a visual layout tool for building JavaFX GUI applications, similar to the Swing GUI builder for Java SE applications. With the JavaFX Composer, developers can quickly build, visually edit, and debug Rich Internet Applications (RIA) and bind components to various data sources, including Web services. The NetBeans 6.9 release also features OSGi interoperability for NetBeans Platform applications and support for developing OSGi bundles with Maven. With support for OSGi and Swing standards, the NetBeans Platform now supports the standard UI toolkit and the standard module system, providing a unique combination of standards for modular, rich-client development. Additional noteworthy features in this release include support for JavaFX SDK 1.3, PHP Zend framework, and Ruby on Rails 3.0; as well as improvements to the Java Editor, Java Debugger, issue tracking, and more. • Is there any advantage in using DX10/11 for a 2D game?

  I'm not entirely familiar with the feature set introduced by DX10/11 class hardware. I'm vaguely familiar with the new stages added to the programmable graphics pipeline, such as the geometry shader, the compute shader, and the new tesselation stages. I don't see how any of these make much of a difference for a 2D game though. Is there any compelling reason to make the switch to DX10/11 (or the OpenGL equivalents) for a 2D game, or would it be wiser to stick with DX9 considering that that a significant share of the market still runs on older technologies (e.g. the February 2012 Steam surveys lists around 17% of users as still using Windows XP)?

  I'm currently running a modified Wordpress site that is uniquely designed to simply publish links to other sites, similar to The Drudge Report. Right now I have a few dozen Google Alerts setup and go through each result manually and if it matches a few niche keywords I'm working with, then I add a link to the article to my site. I do the manual checking because sometimes Google Alerts finds links to sites that belong to service providers, organizations, or products, but all I want are mainstream news articles. So my question is there a more efficient - and ideally automated - way to go about performing highly qualitative searches and aggregating such links?

• A Comparison of Store Layouts

  In response to my HTML5 apps argument a few people came back to how the payment thingy is missing from my idea, and how it will (apparently) be worthless because of that. I’ve been thinking about that a lot in the past few days, and I’m increasingly of the opinion that the payment argument is nonsense.Sure, everybody who does iPhone apps, or who’s glancing cursorily at the mobile market without trying to gain in-depth knowledge, currently believes that the App Store concept is going to be a huge...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?   I am an experienced asp.net developer and asp.net mvc and I have my own CMS that I have written but starting to think there should be another approach. When someone asks you to develop them a website how do you develop it so that they can add pictures,slideshows, content, news items, diary events. On a side note do you give them a design for the home page and inner page and thats it. I'm just thinking if they turn around and say 6 months down the line I want a jquery slideshow on the right hand side of this page how do you or CMS's handle it?

  UPDATED: HP still sells 17" WUXGA laptops - details in the new paragraph at the end. Lenovo, Dell, Sony and Sager do not sell a 1920x1200 (WUXGA) laptop. I understand that manufacturers provide what there is market demand for. I also understand that HDTV and the 1080p standard is heavily influencing both monitor and laptop screen resolutions.
