• DataBinding and ErrorProvider - How to provide custom error messages?

  We use BusinessObjects, implementing IDataErrorInfo and IEditableObject. BindingLists with those Objects are added to BindingSources, those are used to bind UserControls and DataGrids on the forms (WinForms). The BindingSource is additionally set as DataSource to the ErrorProvider of the form. We do use currently TextBoxes for Properties of Type int and short. They are validated inside the BusinessObjects with custom validation, like min/max values, etc. That works fine, since error message form our custom validations show up nicely next to the TextBox. However, if the input is greater than the value of an int (e.g. "9999999999") the BindingSource doesn't even try to enter that Value into the BusinesObject but instead gives the errormessage to the errorprovider like "The value for Int32 was too big.". We do not want to bother our users with "Int32" but want a custom errormessage for that. It is nice, that the BindingSource does provide this feature, but is it possible to provide custom error messages for this?

• How to create refresh statements for TableAdapter objects in Visual Studio?

  I am working on developing an ADO.NET data provider and an associated DDEX provider. I am unable to convince the Visual Studio TableAdapater Configuration Wizard to generate SQL statements to refresh the data table after inserts and updates. It generates the insert and delete statements but will not produce the select statements to do the refresh. The functionality referred to can be accessed by dropping a table from the Server Explorer (inside Visual Studio) onto a DataSet (e.g., DataSet1.xsd). It creates a TableAdapter object and configures SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT statements. If you right click on the TableAdapter object, the context menu has a “Configure” option that starts the “TableAdapter Configuration Wizard”. The first dialog of that wizard has an Advanced Options button, which leads to an option titled “Refresh the data table”. When used with SQL Server tables, that option causes a statement of the form “select field1, field2, …” to be added on to the end of the commands for the TableAdapter’s InsertCommand and UpdateCommand. Do you have any idea what type property or interface might need to be exposed from the DDEX provider (or maybe the ADO.NET data provider) in order to make Visual Studio add those refresh statements to the update/insert commands? The MSDN documentation for the Advanced SQL Generation Options Dialog Box has a note stating, “Refreshing the data table is only supported on databases that support batching of SQL statements.” This seems to imply that a .NET data provider might need to expose some property indicating such behavior is supported. But I cannot find it. Any ideas?

• Make a connection to a HTTPS server from Java and ignore the validity of the security certificate

  I've been testing some that works with a bunch of https servers with different keys, some of which are invalid and all of them are not in the local key store for my JVM. I am really only testing things out, so I don't care about the security at this stage. Is there a good way to make POST calls to the server and tell Java not to worry about the security certificates? My google searches for this have brought up some code examples that make a class to do the validation, that always works, but I cannot get it to connect to any of the servers.

• Localization with separate Language folders within Views

  I'm trying to have specific folders for each language in Views. (I know this isn't the best way of doing it but it has to be this way for now) e.g. /Views/EN/User/Edit.aspx /Views/US/User/Edit.aspx These would both use the same controller and model but have different Views for each language. In my Global.asax.cs I have routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{language}/{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { language = "en", controller = "Logon", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }, // Parameter defaults new { language = @"en|us" } // validation ); This works ok but always points to the same View. If I put the path to the Lanagugage folder it works return View("~/Views/EN/User/Edit.aspx"); but clearly this isn't a very nice way to do it. Is there anyway to get MVC to look in the correct language folder? Thanks and again I know this isn't the best way of doing Localization but I can't use resource files.

• Serialized form fields in Ruby on Rails problem

  I'm having a problem making serialized columns in my model persist correctly in forms. If my model validation fails I want to redisplay the "new" page with all my model data still in the forms. Right now, everything except the serialized fields seem to persist (if my Order fails to purchase, on the "new" page the email is still filled in but the shipping address fields are not). Is this a Rails bug or am I doing something wrong? • rails validate_format_of non-negative integers

  Hi, I am trying to validate the format of non-negative integers with the following validates_format_of :fundays, :with => /\A[\d]+\Z/, :message => "invalid fundays" And here is the form field used in the view <%= f.text_field :fundays, :maxlength => 3, :style => 'width:50px;' %> However, when I input a non-digit into this field and submit the form, it does not fail the validation. Instead it saves a value of 0 in the database. How do I make it write to the list of error messages. thanks

  I have this fantastic little plugin working but I need to require that at least one name be selected. I normally use jquery.validate. However, the validation plugin does not appear to work on a field using the tokeninput. Does anyone have an answer?   Hi, I am new to Tomcat, and trying to run a simple HelloWorld servlet. I have installed Tomcat 6, and Jdk1.6 on Mandriva Linux, set CLASSPATH and JAVA_HOME. When i invoke the below piece from a template match of text node, I get all the preceding text nodes from the root. I am using Selenium RC and the PHPUnit Selenium extension. How can I achieve this? • Java/XML: Good "Stream-based" Alternative to JAXB?

  Hello Experts, JAXB makes working with XML so much easier, but I have currently a big problem, that the documents I have to process are too large for an in memory unmarshalling that JAXB does. The data can be up to 4GB per document. The datastructure I will have to process is very simple and flat: With a root element and millions of “elements”… <root> <element> _foo </element> <element> _foo </element> </root> May questions are: Does JAXB maybe somehow support unmarshalling in a “streambased” way, that does not require to build the whole objecttree in memory but rather gives me some kind of “Iterator” to the elements, element by element? (Maybe I just missed that somehow…) If not what are your proposals for an good alternative with a a. “flat learningcurve, ideally very similar to JAXB b. AND VERY IMPORTANT: Ideally with the possibility / tool for the generation of the unarshaller code from an XSD file OR annotated Java Class 3.(I have searched SO and those to library that ended up on my “watchlist” (without comparing them closer) were Apache XML Beans and Xstream… What other libraries are maybe even better for the purpose and what are the disadvantages, adavangaes… Thank you very much!!!   Hi i just put up a validation function in jScript to validate filename in fileupload control[input type file]. The function seems to work fine in FF and sometimes in ie but never in Chrome. Basically the function tests if File name is atleast 1 char upto 25 characters long.Contains only valid characters,numbers [no spaces] and are of file types in the list.   Long story short, I have a struct (see below) that contains exactly one field: private int value; I've also implemented implicit conversion operators: public static implicit operator int(Outlet val) { return val.value; } public static implicit operator Outlet(int val) { return new Outlet(val); } I've implemented all of the following : IComparable, IComparable<Cart>, IComparable<int>, IConvertible, IEquatable<Cart>, IEquatable<int>, IFormattable I'm at a point where I really have no clue why, but whenever I serialize this object, I get no value. For instance, with XmlSerialization: <Outlet /> Also, I'm not solely concerned about XmlSerialization, I'm concerned about ALL serialization (binary for instance) How can I ensure that this serializes properly? NOTE: I did this because mapping an int,int dictionary seemed rather poorly typed to me when explicit objects with validation behavior were desired.

• Improving the performance of XSL

  I am using the below XSL 2.0 code to find the ids of the text nodes that contains the list of indices that i give as input. the code works perfectly but in terms for performance it is taking a long time for huge files. Even for huge files if the index values are small then the result is quick in few ms. I am using saxon9he Java processor to execute the XSL. <xsl:variable name="insert-data" as="element(data)*"> <xsl:for-each-group select="doc($insert-file)/insert-data/data" group-by="xsd:integer(@index)"> <xsl:sort select="current-grouping-key()"/> <data index="{current-grouping-key()}" text-id="{generate-id( $main-root/descendant::text()[ sum((preceding::text(), .)/string-length(.)) ge current-grouping-key() ][1] )}"> <xsl:copy-of select="current-group()/node()"/> </data> </xsl:for-each-group> </xsl:variable> In the above solution if the index value is too huge say 270962 then the time taken for the XSL to execute is 83427ms. In huge files if the index value is huge say 4605415, 4605431 it takes several minutes to execute. Seems the computation of the variable "insert-data" takes time though it is a global variable and computed only once. Should the XSL be addessed or the processor? How can i improve the performance of the XSL.

• .net c# text box date with mask - setup

  I have a c# .net project and want an input text box for a date value. I want it to display a default value of mm/dd/yyyy and then allow users to enter valid dates. I have tried using a masked text box but it doesn't like having the above format. If i try and use //__ looks naff and so does 00/00/0000 and of course if you put in '0' like 03/11/2009 you get 3/11/29 because the 0's are deleted as part of the mask - so what is the best way to set up an input box like this, effectively with a mask, only allowing numbers, and validation (though at this point I am not so worried about that). This seems so simple and isn't. Thanks, R.

  I am executing the following routine often in order to clear the local cache of many Outlook clients (Outlook 2003) in order to fix corrupted Forms stored on the users local drive. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab. Click Advanced Options. In the Advanced Options box, click Custom Forms. In the Custom Forms box, click Manage Forms. In the Forms Manager box, click Clear Cache. Is there a way I can program this to occur on the local client? I am looking for a solution that could be included in Outlooks VBScript in order to include it in yet another 'Organizational Forms Library' Forms client side validation code. Would this question better fit Server Fault Stack Exchange via an admin script/tool?

• How to remove one instance of one string in PHP?

  I have a open source editor on the cms that I am making that automatically inserts a <br /> tag at the beginning of the post it submits to the database. This makes validation a pain, since even though there is no real text being submitted, the form still accepts the break tag as input and prevents the "Please enter some text" error from showing. So I tried to remove the opening break tag by filtering my input like this: substr($_POST['content'], 6); This works as long as the user doesn't press the backspace a couple of times which removes the break tag in which case the first 8 characters of the post gets removed even if they are not a break tag. So how can I remove the first 6 characters of the input ONLY if those first 6 characters are composed of the break tag. Also I don't want to remove all break tags, only the one at the very beginning of the post.

• Can I make DataGridView.EndEdit trigger the CellValidating event?

  I'm using a DataGridView in my WinForms application. My main objective is to make the Enter key not move to the next row in the grid. I still want the enter key to validate and end edit mode. I found this FAQ entry and subclassed DataGridView to override ProcessDialogKey(). If the key pressed is Enter, I call EndEdit(), otherwise I call base.ProcessDialogKey(). It works great, except the CellValidating event isn't fired. Currently, I'm just manually calling my validation logic before I call EndEdit, but it seems like I'm missing something. I guess I could call OnCellValidating, but then I'd be worried I'm missing some other event. What I really want is some flavour of EndEdit() that behaves just like pressing enter on the last row of a grid with adding disabled.

  Spring 3.0.2, Hibernate 3.5.0, Hibernate-Validator 4.0.2.GA I am trying to inject Spring dependencies into a ConstraintValidator using: @PersistenceContext private EntityManager entityManager; I have configured the application context with: <bean id="validator" class="org.springframework.validation.beanvalidation.LocalValidatorFactoryBean"/> Which, according to the Spring documentation, should allow “custom ConstraintValidators to benefit from dependency injection like any other Spring bean” Within the debugger I can see Spring calling getBean to create the ConstraintValidator. Later when flush triggers the preInsert, a different ConstraintValidator is created and called. The problem is the EntityManager is null within this new ConstraintValidator. I’ve tried injecting other dependencies within the ConstraintValidator and these are always null. Does anyone know if it is possible to inject dependencies into a ConstraintValidator?

The ideal framework: Should take full advantage of PHP 5.3 and PostgreSQL 8.4 features Should support new technologies such as OpenID and social networking Should support complex relationships between database relations Should have an intelligent validation system Should have a basic library of helpful views (such as pagination, navigation, etc) Should probably be MVC based Should have excellent documentation and an active development community Should namespace classes intelligently What I'm looking for might be more of a library of utilities, as I really don't want to be restricted by the framework in what I can and can not do. I have my own small library of core classes that take care of business logic, and I will most likely want to integrate those with the new framework as well. Thanks!
